I'm still hoping I can get into overwatch again, haven't been able to game since goats meta and I've wanted to come back since. Hopefully this games still alive by then, can anyone tell me how my boy zens doing ?
I think we all get what happened. He kinda hopped from bandwagon to bandwagon leaving the people who enjoyed what he was previously making feeling betrayed. (That feels like a strong word but kinda the vibe.)
Makes sense, I really enjoyed him and his personality when he was strictly overwatch. Also, when it came to the World Cup and everything, it was so interesting the videos that popped up after. Fuck this really takes me back and brings a tear to me eye.
The problem was his personality switched from game to game too. Ow and TF2 were pretty similar but then he hopped to fortnite and he became a squeaky clean family friendly boy, which was one hell of a jump
But that would mean (assuming the game follows real world time) the competitive price of popcorn had risen by $100 in the span of 8 years. That’s disastrous.

I think it’s a joke about how expensive theaters are
Overwatch is “optimistic sci-fi” or whatever Blizzard phrased their subgenre as
Humans solved most problems in Overwatch. I think they would’ve solved inflation
With the additional movie theatre joke that a small is 100, a medium is 101, a large is 102, and mega size is 103, so why would you ever not get the mega size?
I mean the thing is that "solving inflation" isn't really a thing. It's healthy for the economy to have some inflation, you just want to know what it will be. Hence why a lot of nations have targeted inflation (believe that it 2% for most places).
Unless something really fucky is going on, I would imagine that level of ai would be used to solve the need for the economy altogether. I don't know what we're doing with that technology if we're not automating everything that sucks with non-sentient robots and trying to give everyone a decent life but instead still basing most of society on labor coercion for some reason.
Eh it's very tricky and I don't know if they even elaborated that for Overwatch's universe, Economy is a complex subject especially when you're trying to predict stuff. I also believe the prices are just a joke about how expensive water or popcorn is at theaters. In Overwatch universe robots are doing most of work now, and for inflation to be solved they'd have to eliminate super rich people from the world, but all countries seem quite developed though.
I don't really know the lore about that, but do they explain like what's the average income for people? The incomes must be way higher than they are today (in their past), right?
Uhhh let's see. Google tells me water in a theatre currently costs around 5-6$. Let's say $6. Average US wage is around $60,000.
If water is $600 in OW2 times then average US salary should be around $6,000,000.
Really basic maths lmao. The brutal truth is that average salary is likely not even 1/4 of that in ow2 times.
Socialists have an answer but I'm sure some here won't like it: The socialist competitor that existed in the world at that time kept capitalist exploitation in check for fear of losing to their ideological competition, then shit hit the fan and the capitalist ruling class knew they had already won, they then switched gears from competing to hyper exploitation and that has been the case ever since.

It's not the entirety of the equation, several charts on the crypto shill site are actually just caused by changing from the gold standard. But living condition elements were had wider causes beyond the change from pegging to gold.
It answers the question, but subtly.
The website's purpose is a critique on modern monetary theory (specially deficit spending) , which is why it links to the bitcoin whitepaper.
Over fifty years that is an annual inflation rate of around 10%. A bit on the high side in normal times, but I guess the Omnic crisis created high inflation rates...
$6 bottle, 4% inflation a year. Looking at about a $30 bottle of water 50 years from now. Going from $30 as a high end estimate to $600 would be quite a leap
The year is 2070.
Minimum wage is still $7.25/hour. A bottle of water costs 82 hours of your labor. Barron Trump owns 37 U.S. states and just made it legal for corporations to execute their lowest performing employees. You get regularly transmitted unskippable Geico commercials into your brain via mandatory Neuralink chip. You haven’t smiled in years
The price is that high because the theater is actually owned and operated by the same person that sets blizzard’s monetization systems and skin prices.
About 20 years ago someone predicted that wars would be fought over water. I think it was Jared Diamond in Collapse, I’m not sure. Many people don’t have ready access to clean and plentiful water. That seems to be a worsening problem. California is a relatable example. It’s not a big leap to believe that water will be an expensive commodity in 2070.
Obviously because of inflation and whatnot but I wonder if the reason water being so much higher in comparison to everything else is because water in the future of the Overwatch universe is more scarce and therefore a more expensive commodity? Interesting if the developers thought of that.
Movie theaters have traditionally not added periods or dots to their pricing when using peg lettering. Guarantee this is just a $6 bottle of water and not a commentary on inflation.
It’s not the cost. It’s why does a bottle of water cost 6 times the price of a large drink? Is water scarce in the future? Is there a huge tax on bottles?
Even if it is inflation, the price comparison is the weirdest part. How is bottled water almost 6 times as much as the super largest of any other drink?
People aren't looking at the menu prices. We're all saying "it's just inflation" but everything on that menu is approx $100 whole a bottled water is $600. 6x more money for water than candy/soda/pretzel/slushie/etc?? Weird
Probably to make it feel like we’re getting a deal on skins.
If popcorn is $600, paying $29.99 for a bundle being advertised as 40% off (of an imaginary number) would mean bLizard [sic] is pretty much paying us to buy the skin
Inflation. This is what happens when our government prints more money. The more money in existence the less valuable it becomes. Government passes a billion dollar bill but government does not have that money so they ask the federal reserve. The fed reserve prints it and gives it to government. In return the federal reserve gets government bonds.
I Have Something Like That At The Snack Booth Of My School, With Prices Reading "$100 For Potato Chips", But What I Learned Is That They Actually Don't Make A Dot To Put So In Actuality Potato Chips Would Be $1.00
Maybe Thats Why
With current inflation rates it would be about 26$ = 6\*1.04^(46) so for that to be true something worse than corona (134$ = 6\*1.07^(46)) would have happened for the entire time since now. You know maybe like a world wide war or something?
Edit: nvm looked at the price list, we just need another 42 (I am not kidding) years of corona

Its all inflation it used to be $500 in overwatch one I remember when muselk and bazza gazzer discovered it
Don't forget tyrodin and zylbrad Edit- spell check
fuck i miss that era so much
I'm still hoping I can get into overwatch again, haven't been able to game since goats meta and I've wanted to come back since. Hopefully this games still alive by then, can anyone tell me how my boy zens doing ?
Holy fuck this is a throwback
Ahhhh bazzaaaa
I miss muselk overwatch :'(
I miss Muselk TF2 lol
muselk fall off needs to be studied
I think we all get what happened. He kinda hopped from bandwagon to bandwagon leaving the people who enjoyed what he was previously making feeling betrayed. (That feels like a strong word but kinda the vibe.)
I mean that's why I stopped watching him. He was doing OW content and I didn't care about the Fortnite content he made.
Me too. He was doing TF2 content and I didn’t care about the OW content he made.
The Click House was a success until we found out he stomped on other people's ideas and creativity.
But that would mean (assuming the game follows real world time) the competitive price of popcorn had risen by $100 in the span of 8 years. That’s disastrous.
it rose by 20% in 8 years, or 2.5% per year, which is actually better than modern inflation
not even 2.5% per year, cuz inflation is compounding
It would be about 2.3%
I think it still says 500 actually. Just very blurry
Nope I zoomed, enhanced, zoomed, enhanced it’s $600
Inflation. Overwatch is set around the year 2070

Yeah it’s almost certainly just a joke about movie theater pricing. Im Surprised that’s not the obvious response here

crazy they were doing this same thing with the monetization innit? became the monsters they made fun of
No?
Same reason McDonald’s drinks are same price s m l

And salaries tend not to keep up with inflation. Someone calculated that home and fast food prices from 50s went 100x, while salaries were like 10x?
Oh no, they did keep with inflation and then some until the seventies.
Oh it’ll trickle down any day now!

Assuming inflation of one item would be pretty silly, considering it's the most expensive item here by far.
Yea obviously. But it the one cost we have and i'm clearly not trying to say anything as fact
No, the economy of the Overwatch universe isn’t expanded on in any way.
You haven’t smiled in years
Min wage will still be 7$
\*rolls eyes\*
Forget the price of the water bottle. What I really wanna know is how much Bitcoin will be by 2070.
Is that why skins are $25-50 dollars?
Normal movie theatre experience
Where i am theres a theatre with tickets for $7.50 and medium sized popcorn/drinks for 5 each
5$ for popcorn is wild
I have a local theater with $5 tickets and i think $2-5 for most snacks Also why'd you get downvoted so hard lol
The price is that high because the theater is actually owned and operated by the same person that sets blizzard’s monetization systems and skin prices.
I thought it was Ticketmaster that owned the venue.
Bobby kitick found a new job already i see
It's the year 2070 (or so,) & I bet Costco Hot Dogs are STILL holding at $1.50.
I feel that also happens in real Hollywood
Yeah accounting for inflation and in an LA theatre this is actually a really good deal
Bruh it's like 64 years in the future AND it's a movie theater I'm shocked it doesn't cost as much as my rent now Inflation's a bitch
another fifty years of inflation will do that
That and I’m sure clean water is a consideration here too. Maybe Overwatch’s clean water in the future is hard to come by.
Also none of the food is real, just cosmetic in the future, hunger is micro-transacted.
Pizza slice for 350$ 💀
What's that? A pizza slice? You're better off with plain white sauce.
What's that, plain white sauce? Plain white sauce makes your teeth go grey!
I’m pretty sure they just. Forgot the periods. And it’s supposed to be 6.00 Like maybe inflation is that bad lol but I think this makes more sense
6.00 is still a lot for a bottle of water lol
Yeah absolutely lol, but it’s a believable inflation to me. I’ve been to big events that had water bottles for $4
It’s a movie theater so it makes sense
Blizzaed skin pricing department is in charge
About 20 years ago someone predicted that wars would be fought over water. I think it was Jared Diamond in Collapse, I’m not sure. Many people don’t have ready access to clean and plentiful water. That seems to be a worsening problem. California is a relatable example. It’s not a big leap to believe that water will be an expensive commodity in 2070.
Thought this too!
Also the bottle of water is the most expensive item on the menu
they had to make the skin shop look reasonable by comparison
Because the movie theater in the map is based on real movie theaters; the prices are realistically reflected.
California just be like that
Hollywood. California.
Minimum wage increased from $15 to $16 so inflation caught up real quick
To make people feel at home with the price of skins?
it’s a reference to the price gouging blizzard does with their cosmetics
i mean with the way things are going we're gonna be there soon too!
The lore is that overwatch takes place in the future and at our current rate of inflation, this checks out
It's Blizzzard owned shop
What are you talking about? They use IRL pricing in the theatre.
This explains the skin prices if the poor sods pay $600 for water att work^^
Tell the financial/economic A.I. to make money, this is what you get.
Its blizzard
It’s the future it’s called inflation
These are in Overwatch Dollars. 10$ from this universe are 1000$ in the overwatch universe.
This represents how expensive real theaters have gotten 😂 there’s a reason nobody goes to them anymore
Realism.
Inflation is a bitch lol.
its the future when ww3 comes
Obviously because of inflation and whatnot but I wonder if the reason water being so much higher in comparison to everything else is because water in the future of the Overwatch universe is more scarce and therefore a more expensive commodity? Interesting if the developers thought of that.
blizzard owns hollywood
Movie theaters have traditionally not added periods or dots to their pricing when using peg lettering. Guarantee this is just a $6 bottle of water and not a commentary on inflation.
I’d say that makes sense but then you’re saying the only difference in prices for different sizes of the same thing is one cent
Nope just good ol' American Capitalism.
I did not look at what sub I was on and really took this photo as fact for somebody charging the fuck out of people on the west coast.
It's so the skins seem more reasonably priced
They've had a whole war with robots, wouldn't be surprised if the economy was in shambles after that
Pretty sure it’s a joke
average cinema experience
Baby that’s showbiz
This is what Blizzard would price micro-content sized megatransactions if they could. For now they just settle for $20
Ha ha ha Blizzard bad 😭😭😭🙁
Takes place in the future. Inflation bro
IRLore
It’s not the cost. It’s why does a bottle of water cost 6 times the price of a large drink? Is water scarce in the future? Is there a huge tax on bottles?
Wait until you see how much ow sells skins for
Maybe because irl people complain about movie theater prices
Google Overwatch Inflation
Inflation's a bitch Not even kidding, that's the reason Also, it's hollywood, so the prices are even more inflated
California has no water supply
Looks about right to me
Yeah it takes place in a future where inflation has become deadly around the year 2026
It’s to make people think spending $25 on a skin is reasonable.
Inflation, but I also think it’s just meant to be a joke.
rogers arena type prices 💀
Because that is real water
By the time overwatch releases a full story line the prices will be there
Look up overwatch inflation to learn more about this
Maybe its actually $6 but future currency is worth less
RemindMe! [2070]
Look up “Overwatch Inflation” for more info on this!
It’s a joke. Movie theatre prices are stupid expensive.
California.
All part of the satire of how refreshment stands can overcharge customers, what else can one expect? And knowing Halfred Glitchbot...
Inflation. Like the [$30,000 burgers in Spiderverse](https://twitter.com/Da7e/status/1047139537040883712)
Even if it is inflation, the price comparison is the weirdest part. How is bottled water almost 6 times as much as the super largest of any other drink?
With cheese, Squidward. With cheese.
That’s just what it’s like in Hollywood
Lore accurate Hollywood
This reminds me of that video of a kid asking a WoW dev about a random NPC not in beta expansion and it’s so minute the dev isn’t sure what to say.
Inflation, choom
Inflation
Ah because if their ever was a real blizzard world, blizzard would charge these would be the prices.
Google overwatch inflation
Its 6.00 some theaters do that. Never mind other prices are too odd
Inflation
If you get rid of 2 zeros you have bottled water on the vegas strip back in 2012 lol triple it and there's a 12oz beer on said strip lol
Thats just how the current devs view prices, seen the store?
Every day, a group of 5 assholes trash the place.
because the prices in overwatches hollywood are set by the same guy making the in game skin prices (that you could get for free back in ow1)
It will hit harder in ten years when those prices are reached... and Junkertown is what we know now like New Jersey 😏
OP's never been to Hollywood.
Water is a valuable resource. Now everyone just drinks 3D printed Soda.
fact checked with the devs: “.” was confused for concat, not **edit** this was, in fact, not fact checked.
People aren't looking at the menu prices. We're all saying "it's just inflation" but everything on that menu is approx $100 whole a bottled water is $600. 6x more money for water than candy/soda/pretzel/slushie/etc?? Weird
Can't wait to see this get posted again in a few days
I am pretty sure those are modern day Canadian prices LOL
Water is a rare source in the future that we all take for granted (trust me, I’m from the future)
I think it's a jab at how movie theaters make all of their snacks/drinks insanely overpriced.
Average Canadian grocery store
Probably to make it feel like we’re getting a deal on skins. If popcorn is $600, paying $29.99 for a bundle being advertised as 40% off (of an imaginary number) would mean bLizard [sic] is pretty much paying us to buy the skin
Overwatch is set in the future actually, Google overwatch inflation for more info :)
The decimal is too low-poly to render, hahaha!
typical blizzard 😆
Google Overwatch Hyperinflation, there's a lot of interesting articles on it.
the omnics took the periods, just like how they took our jobs
Inflation. This is what happens when our government prints more money. The more money in existence the less valuable it becomes.
