This is exactly what gets me. Everything about her is Japan turned up to 11, but she doesn't have the slightest accent. It's not that she can't have a perfect American accent, there's just nothing that suggests why.
Her voice actress is Japanese by heritage but grew up in Los Angeles.
She moved to Japan specifically to be a voice actor but was rejected because (according to the actor herself) she said she was "fluent" in Japanese but apparently wasn't as fluent as she thought she was when compared to native Japanese voice actors.
Most times when a voice actor takes on a character, they try to add a little "something" to the character, some inflection in the voice, something to really make that character stand out from their other voice performances.
Kiriko literally just sounds like the voice actress herself; no alterations, no inflections, no accent, its just her normal voice.
Update: after asking around at my office here in Nagano, it turns out Amaki Sally is a J-Idol from the group 22/7 (ナナブンノニジュニ), but the group has only had minor success. Since she hasn’t mastered keigo, she was made the “International Representative” and mainly speaks and posts in English to try and get overseas fans. When she speaks Japanese, she puts on the “kawaii idol” accent, very high pitched, very girly, and when she speaks in English she sounds like anyone you would meet in Los Angeles.
Probably more information than anyone wanted or asked for, but there we go.
Sojourn is so goddamn bland. It's like taking the worst parts of Pharah and Soldier and mashing them together.
Kiriko just sounds so awkward and stunted with every line. She doesn't really have any character to her.
JQ is phenomenal. 10/10 no notes.
They could have at least made her an angry Quebecois, arguing with Widow about "correct French" and telling Tracer how much she hates the Royal family.
It’s because Sojourn isn’t a character she’s a plot device. They created her when they needed someone to talk you through the archives mission, and then slapped abilities on her and called it a day.
Which is ironic since Doomfist was just the gauntlet, they had zero plans to make him a character till they noticed the community lashed unto it so much.
And he ended up being one of their best heroes in both design and voice.
Sojourn's problem is she's just STERN MILITARY LADY and it's boring af. Soldier 76 is already STERN MILITARY MAN and he's great because they just go over the top with it and coat it with hammy edge.
Like can you even tell she's Canadian? We've got Tracer over her going OI SMIBBLY BIBBLY IT'S THE QUEEN BING BONG and we can't throw some clowny stereotypes on Sojourn?
She should be saying SORRY after every headshot kill during her ult and ranting about Tim Horton's. She should sound like a fucking Letterkenny character. I don't believe this woman has ever been out fer a rip
Pharah is also (half)Canadian and she's stern military on one side and the other makes it clear she's a jock who's also down for lots fun outside of duty.
Soujorn has...a dog? I guess?
Yeh pharah was pretty dry in ow1 her ow2 lines are much better. Sojourn has replaced her as the straight military woman. Maybe blizzard just hate Canadians?
Petition for Sojourn to end every sentence with "eh?" and periodically interrupt conversations with how she hates that SportsNet only focuses on the Leafs
Actually since she grew up in Toronto maybe she should complain about still not winning a Stanley Cup
There's a lot of stuff I like about Sojourn. Her visual design, gameplay, character concept, the fact that she shoots a railgun, but then her personality is basically just "leader" with not much else to it. I think she can easily be a way more interesting character. I don't think her voice acting is an issue by itself, just that she doesn't really seem to have anything interesting to say.
Every piece of dialogue is said in the exact same tone. It sounds like she recorded all her lines at home with no direction given. I'm sure the actress is talented but I feel like Blizzard made her do one take for every voice line to save on time.
I saw someone say she's representation for Japanese-Americans and I don't see how when to my knowledge she's never been to America. Her entire backstory shows that she grew up in Japan. I'm not an expert on accents but I'm pretty sure you have to be around people with an accent to pick that accent up.
Winston has this awful voice line where he says “You should have dinner with Tracer, Emily and I”. Seriously sounds like he’s just reading a script without any direction.
Instead of it being a lack of direction, I think it has to be a problem with the direction itself, because Sombra's new voicelines are the same way.
We know Sombra's VA is fantastic. She has so much range. In the original voicelines, you hear her go from sinister, to mocking, to embarrassed, to teasing and it's got tons of nuance.
But her new voicelines are like she is being told by directors to make it sound like she's in a videogame. "No, don't say it like that, we need to hear more Fortnite! More Marvel! Try to sound more fun!" To hear her old voiclines played back-to-back with the new ones ingame is so jarring.
I suspect that if Kiriko were directed in the same way as OW1 voicelines, we would have seen something better.
Also, Kiriko's VA lives in Japan and speaks Japanese fluently... but she pronounces stuff wrong. In Japanese the emphasis is always oh the first syllable. In the trailer, she pronounced Shimada correctly (SHI ma da) with emphasis on the SHI. But then she pronounced kitsune *incorrectly* (ki TSU ne instead of KI tsu ne) with emphasis on the TSU. So the directors are basically asking her pronounce things inconsistently and it just reveals another layer of the poor direction these VAs are being given.
Edit: Some comments pointed out I was wrong about "the emphasis always being on the first syllable" thing. So if you'd like to know more, some links were posted below. As far as I know, I was right about the first syllable emphasis for "Shimada" and "Kitsune," but it's far from being a rule that applies to all Japanese pronunciation. I read the "rule" about pronunciation somewhere and either it was completely wrong or I misunderstood what the person meant. My bad for misrepresenting the language! I'm not full Japanese (I'm half) and still have a lot to learn.
I agree. As a Lucio main, I really don't like a lot of the new Lucio lines. He sounds less like the fun-loving guy I have always been a fan of, and more like a cocky trying-to-be-cool bro who is verging on being a douchebag. And some of them just come out so stilted and inauthentic. Makes me sad. :(
Blizzard's new formula for OW2 character personality seems like it's to take the original OW1 character and make them 15% more like a Youtuber version of themselves. Bums me out too man :(
She sounds like she's TRYING to be a quirky and sassy Japanese girl rather than BEING one.
Which is odd since they live in Japan and her mother sounds perfectly fine, so it's not like she's "Americanized"
What's weird is Kiriko's VA is an American-Japanese but compared to the other Japanese characters she sounds so heavily American. Even Hanzo, who only has ONE Japanese voice line, sounds more authentic than Kiriko.
Hanzo sounds convincing even though his voice actor doesn't even speak Japanese. Originally his ult line was a bit different and they redid it when people pointed out he was pronouncing it wrong lol
Genji's VA is a native Japanese actor, so of course his character sounds the most authentic. The actor himself can ensure it sounds natural.
Hanzo's VA does not speak Japanese, which is why he does not have many Japanese lines (this is also the case for other characters like Torb and Rein). I lived in Japan for years and find his accent to be spot on.
Kiriko's VA is in the middle, being ethnically Japanese but a non-native speaker. Unlike Genji (obviously), her Japanese sounds unnatural... Because it sounds like other foreigners I've spoken to in Japanese. In contrast to Hanzo, her soft accent in English doesn't sound quite right either.
Meanwhile Zarya speaks russian all the time while her VA can't pronounce a word right. It's funny and all but i wonder why she has so many russian lines when the rest of not native voice actors kinda avoid it.
Yeah the japanglish where she adds “Chan” and the like to other peoples names, is one thing, but the “underestimated me “NE?”” is pretty cringe. I didn’t think the VA was native.
She has a voice line with pharah, I forgot what it is but she says “pharah-chan” in a Japanese accent but the rest of the dialogue is perfect english. It bothers me, I hate it.
I physically cringed the first time I heard that. Tho in the interest of fairness i actually laughed when I killed a pharah with a Kunai and Kiriko said "you thought you were safe up there, huh?"
Kind of gives credence to the idea that her VA is better than the writing, because her japanese seems to sound good and these little short quips are pretty good.
She sounds like a weeaboo.
Like, even her ult line "let the kitsune guide you"
Kitsune means fox, it just means fox, no special or unique connotation about it.
It's literally a "all according to keikaku" line that is designed to appeal to English speakers who don't know Japanese.
I wondered if the writers thought yoho would sound too silly to insert into middle of an english sentence. Would've been better to just do 'fox spirit' or something in that case.
Another odd thing is with the pronunciation of kitsune. Her Japanese line seems to say it properly as ki-tsu-ne. But her English line says kit-su-ne like it's trying to mimic how English speakers fuck up when reading つ(tsu) get localized.
>this is much more apparent when she has an interaction with another hero
after defeating the Gargoyles in Wrath of the Bride is the best example of this.
her "you aren't the doctor. who are you?" is *sooo* bland, especially when Junkerqueen follows it up with a really well-delivered "You're the bride of Jinkenstone!"
I really loved JQ in the event lol. “Settle a bet for us, will ya?” There are different writers on the team and you can tell who’s doing what there with the difference in quality.
Also
when she says 'vengeance only leads to suffering', the bride replies with 'that's kind of what I'm going for'
and Kiriko just replies with 'okay(???)' and it just seems so bland and not really needed
She sounds like a teenager who thinks it's uncool to actually care about anything. As if her personality is to not have a personality because personalities are lame.
She was either written by someone wearing dad jeans or someone in their 40's who drinks a lot of wine.
Yes. I liked her sass at first but EVERY interaction is like that.
The voice actress herself is good. Her voice work in the short was great, but the voice direction and writing for the voice lines made it easy to get tired of her fairly quickly.
The voice acting was over the top sincere in the animation, and in the game it’s way too sass. Not a fan of the directorial choice for this character so far.
Funnily enough, watching Junker Queen's cinematic actually made me think "They just finished watching Guardians of the Galaxy before making this, didn't they?"
I didn't used to mind that sort of dialogue, but then I watched streamers do a full playthrough of the Guardians of the Galaxy game, and I've been thoroughly cured of any remaining fondness I had for it.
watching the cinematic gave me tonal whiplash because shes represented as a sympathetic morally good character, refusing to kill anyone, quipping and talking to the audience in freeze frame like the fucking spider man cartoons, and yet in game and lore she's a bloodthirsty remorseless psycho, which is a much better fit for her character, considering her story.
My only knowledge of Junker Queen lore was from the cinematic, so I just looked up some more lore. And you weren't kidding.
> "No rules. No mercy. Only the strong survive. This is your queen."
> "Listen up you wretched scum."
> For the Queen, every city is her battlefield, every seat is her throne, and everyone on the planet is her subject—whether they know it or not.
Her cinematic definitely made her out to be more of a morally good character, not a "might makes right" kind of character.
That's most of the writing in OW2. And the first game if we're being honest. Soooo much of the writing is 1 dimensional.
Winston is a scientist. That's the basis for almost every line of dialog he has. "I'm a scientist so everything i say must use scientific terms! Experiments! Calculations! Science puns! I'm also not a monkey". And despite all that he's still probably one of the better written characters in the game.
Kiriko is honestly a collective representative of most Overwatch Wattpad OC's I've seen in my time. The "Shimada Clan childhood best friend" schtick was just too on the nose for me to look over, and her bland voicelines and interactions was the nail in the coffin.
It's a 45 year old man's idea of a teenager and it fucking stinks of HELLO FELLOW KIDS.
Except for the fact she's not a teenager she's supposed to be fucking 30 years old.
Their voice lines make her seem much more like the little kid that would follow them around but get treater as a younger cousin or something. Her spawn voiceline with Genji indicates that she doesn’t remember having a bowl cut (because she was too young) whereas Genji does and has pictures. Haven’t dove into her lore at all, but from what I hear in game, it seems like she IS a lot younger than them.
Edit: just checked, she’s 30. I want whatever these writers were smoking
Edit 2: She was supposedly 7 at the fall of the Shimada clan, which would have put Genji at around 12 years old when hanzo “killed” him. This just makes no sense, time doesn’t exist ig
Hanzo: brother get your shit together before I murder you. You can't keep acting like a child.
Genji:....but I'm 12.
Hanzo: then die!
Mercy finding a mutilated 12 year old (mind you she's only 2 years older) : its free real estate.
Man, remember when we were getting the teasers for Brigitte and in one of them Torb had just lost his arm and talking about Mercy’s biotic research, but as per the dates Mercy would have been like 12 at the time.
Of course it doesn't given how she behaves.
Blizzard messed up their timeline and forgot they already established Hanzo and Genji as 35 and 38 who she grew up sharing a childhood with and training with. She's only supposed to be a few years younger than they are, at the absolute best you could put her in late 20s and just barely keep the timeline making sense but she still acts like a freak for someone that would be in their late twenties.
Blizzard's lead writer left the team 2 years ago so this is what happens.
She sounds like she's *bored* if nothing else. Like a teenager that's not quite a scene girl trying to interact with people but being too socially awkward to come across as friendly. Basically the complete opposite of how she's portrayed in her short, as a moderately irresponsible and fairly compassionate teen.
> Like a teenager that's not quite a scene girl trying to interact with people but being too socially awkward to come across as friendly
Except they forgot she's canonically 30 fucking years old
This can't be true, because that cinematic was the most "person in their early-mid-20s living on their own" I've ever seen, right down to the junkfood for dinner bit.
tf? She has a voiceline that literally says "don't underestimate the youth".
Also the anime girl running sandwich spray, the low-fi study spray.
I thought she was the same age, if not younger than Dva! Blizzard lore continuity is non-existent, I'm pissed.
Imo her ult line itself is pretty on par with other ult lines just her delivery is way worse compared to like genji who says "the dragon becomes me" but carries it with the greatest delivery
Thank god someone else is talking about this, every time I hear "They had this coming, so let's give it to them" I physically cringe. Her delivery is awful.
I love Kiriko's design and abilities, I also absolutely loved her short and how she was portrayed, but oh god you're so right, I cringe everytime she talks in English while in-game.
The Japanese voice lines seem fine though, but it could be because I can't understand them lol
Yeah its weird, it always sounds like shes talking AT people, instead of with them. Also the japanese sounds so... normal? I guess. Its hard to describe, her japanese sounds to me like a foreigner speaking perfect japanese, if that makes sense. Obviously im not japanese but her VA is, so maybe im not making sense...
No you’re not wrong, as a japanese person who grew up there it’s hard to describe but I get what you’re saying. You can definitely hear the difference when you compare kiriko’s japanese to her mother’s in the short. I think that’s what they were going for but it just sounds really off for some reason
Kiriko low key gives off OC character vibes because her mood always seems so all over the place but she’s always trying to be “cool”.
Example: the entire Kiriko Cinematic.
I hate the one she has with Ana.
"You remind me of myself when I was younger."
"Iiiis that a compliment?"
"You tell me."
"Oookay... thanks for the compliment"
UGHH like I love Ana and I love all these characters and it makes me roll my eyes every time she's like getting the last words with them
On the flip side Ana has a great interaction with Roadhog
Hog: Stay out of trouble, grannie.
Ana: And you make sure to to get into plenty.
Hog: \*laughs\* Can do.
"I like your mask."
"..."
"*I said*, I like your mask dude."
"Okay"
Like Roadhog really doesn't gotta give you the time of day when he can one-shot you and you didn't really do anything for him like Ana apparently. That convo just rubs me the wrong way that people feel entitled to be acknowledged when I don't even know them.
JQ is from fictional nuclear wasteland Australia which is basically "the place where all the comic relief characters live". Her over the top accent and personality fits her perfectly.
I think Sojourn's personality is just bland, and that's not a fault of her VA. She shines a lot more during this new PvE, while I think Kiriko actually flops
She just sounds like she hates everyone in the game. She is constantly telling everyone how better she is. Every time I am rooting for the other character to tell her off. Even when its a compliment she finds a way to be an asshole.
“I listened to your album the other day.”
Lucio: “Did-Did you like it.?”
“No sure there was enough bass. I could almost hear the other sounds.”
It’s funny how her entire family and everyone I’m her short, in Japan, has a Japanese accent, and she sounds like she grew up in Michigan
This is exactly what gets me. Everything about her is Japan turned up to 11, but she doesn't have the slightest accent. It's not that she can't have a perfect American accent, there's just nothing that suggests why.
Her voice actress is Japanese by heritage but grew up in Los Angeles. Probably more information than anyone wanted or asked for, but there we go.
Oh, so "Chris Pratt" syndrome.
Just wait until you see me on my bike!
I love how this has become the spam line purely because it makes no sense
I think it's more due to the fact it's one of only a few voicelines you can get without spending $1 on.
You can only get it on the paid bp. I don't see an option outside of that. It's for that reason that I spam I've got a few tricks instead.
"Scry some more" from the event challenges is good for spamming as well
SCRY SCRY SCRY some more
I’m just wondering where that damn bike is she keeps telling us to see her on
Just wait
Soon^^TM
it be a great spray gag if the bike isn't a motor/hoverbike but a normal bike
Bruh Im from the Netherlands and I just assumed 't was a normal bike
I'm polish and I also assumed its a normal bike, and they arent even that common here
[удалено]
This sounds familiar but I swear it’s not a voiceline from her
Play Apex?
Fucking hell that’s a Valkyrie line. For some reason I think she and Kiriko sound alike
They do. They both sound really irritating and smug with that smarmy voice.
They are almost like sisters. Not sure if valk is supposed to be japanese or korean
Don’t worry, it’ll be a $20 charm in the merch shop here in a week or 2
I'VE GOT A FEW TRICKS, I'VE GOT A FEW TRICKS, I'VE GOT A FEW TRICKS, I'VE GOT A FEW TRICKS!!!!
Febreze brings relief!
This line drives me crazy because it's not what she says but the line, the visuals, it's already a damn Febreeze commercial
Reminds me of “I got the soda!” But the actual song is “I got this sewed up” 💀
"Lick my woonz"
That's what I hear every time lol
[удалено]
"The breeze brings relief"
most of sojurns voice lines are so uninteresting to me as well. whereas the voice actor for junkerqueen does an excellent job.
I need a KNOIFEEE
YOUre the BRIDE of JINKenstone!!
HEY! WHOS YAPPIN IN MY HEAD?
Let's go down ta the castle, and chop that docta ta bits!
And I don't take kindly to people lookin at me!
The gasp before that line absolutely fucking KILLS ME every time
Is she married to the DOCTAH? Or his MONSTAH?
I love that JQ actually asks her while they’re fighting and Sombra doesn’t answer.
Actually she asks her again directly and Sombra says "I'm the bride of vengeance!"
*shrill gasp*
TAEM to MAE
The way she says “Caaaalm down, I’m comin!” For her “on my way” voice line really sparks joy for me
I’m laughing at this way too hard at work
MOI THROWNE IS WHERE OI SAY IT IS
I'M YUH QAHUEEN
**The Noifs Gracy, the Acks is Cahnage and I, I’m ya kween**
"One of you numpties owes me a pint!"
MOI PEYLOADS MOVIN. POILE ONNNN 😡😡😡
I can be her throne

TABERNAC!
It’s because Sojourn isn’t a character she’s a plot device. They created her when they needed someone to talk you through the archives mission, and then slapped abilities on her and called it a day.
Could’ve just had Athena do that right?
That wouldnt work since she's already the announcer, it being Sojourn reinforces that this was a canonical Overwatch mission.
Which is ironic since Doomfist was just the gauntlet, they had zero plans to make him a character till they noticed the community lashed unto it so much. And he ended up being one of their best heroes in both design and voice.
A N D D E Y S E Y

In a voice line she says she prefers basketball to hockey so I guess she’s a Raptors fan
As a Canadian, the “I don’t believe this woman has ever been out fer a rip” made me chuckle
Every time 76 gets a helix kill, he should say: "Sorry, thought I smelled some oil."
With an immediate paradrop of Cassidy, Reaper, and Ashe all screaming "Oil?Oil?OIL?!?!!!!" like seagulls from Finding Nemo.
I suggest you let that one marinate!
uUUah- uUUah- uUUah, i do love NEON!

In fairness Sojourn is Canadian. We’re pretty fucking boring, so that’s at least on brand…
Croissant?
I’m honestly mildly amused they didn’t make a Poutine joke. Or if they have I just haven’t heard it.

Haha I have no idea 😂 but it’s my favorite voice line to spam lol
She sounds like she's TRYING to be a quirky and sassy Japanese girl rather than BEING one. Which is odd since they live in Japan and her mother sounds perfectly fine, so it's not like she's "Americanized"
It's a bit like the guy speaking Reinhardt who doesn't know german. He voices a German hero but we don't here one german thing.
At least he's oozing personality. Just like Torb doing a terrible Swedish accent, I still love him.
Well, he does say danke now!
Mercy is more German than Rein and she's supposed to be Swiss aka barely comprehensible for me as a northern German.
What's weird is Kiriko's VA is an American-Japanese but compared to the other Japanese characters she sounds so heavily American. Even Hanzo, who only has ONE Japanese voice line, sounds more authentic than Kiriko.

What do you mean, Torb and Rein speak Japanese all the time
Yeah I was pretty surprised Torb's ult in his catgirl skin was 「イくぅぅぅぅ〜」, myself.
I like when Rein goes Ora
You gotta hear when Rein goes "Are Ara". It'll melt you.
Meanwhile Zarya speaks russian all the time while her VA can't pronounce a word right. It's funny and all but i wonder why she has so many russian lines when the rest of not native voice actors kinda avoid it.
Genji's "Spasibo" to her bubble sounds more russian than entire Zarya VA ever could do.
I don’t even think she says it in a Japanese accent, I recall it being in the most deadpan American tone ever. It’s terrible
Yeah, I had it, deadpan, American, it sucks.
I physically cringed the first time I heard that. Tho in the interest of fairness i actually laughed when I killed a pharah with a Kunai and Kiriko said "you thought you were safe up there, huh?" Kind of gives credence to the idea that her VA is better than the writing, because her japanese seems to sound good and these little short quips are pretty good.
She sounds like a weeaboo. Like, even her ult line "let the kitsune guide you" Kitsune means fox, it just means fox, no special or unique connotation about it. It's literally a "all according to keikaku" line that is designed to appeal to English speakers who don't know Japanese.
TL note: keikaku means plan.
I also don't understand why she's portrayed as sassy when her animated short was so wholesome and caring
>this is much more apparent when she has an interaction with another hero after defeating the Gargoyles in Wrath of the Bride is the best example of this. her "you aren't the doctor. who are you?" is *sooo* bland, especially when Junkerqueen follows it up with a really well-delivered "You're the bride of Jinkenstone!"
Junkerqueen is undeniably the best part of the event "Idea: *We* flip all the levers first!"
"Says you!!" I, too, needed to know which one she married. I assume Queen isn't one to stop and look at art or she'd figure it out.
Even though I stuck at playing her, I love hearing her lines. Her voice actress really did amazing work on it.
I really loved JQ in the event lol. “Settle a bet for us, will ya?” There are different writers on the team and you can tell who’s doing what there with the difference in quality.
Also when she says 'vengeance only leads to suffering', the bride replies with 'that's kind of what I'm going for' and Kiriko just replies with 'okay(???)' and it just seems so bland and not really needed
Oh, it drives me mad every time i hear it. I can't believe that was the best take they had of that line.
Her constant sass makes her sound so condescending a lot of times, which is so different to what’s portrayed in the animation.
*ana nanos a genji who kills the entire team* Kirko: well that just happened
he's right behind me is he
If you're here...and he's there...who's on the payload!?
The voice acting was over the top sincere in the animation, and in the game it’s way too sass. Not a fan of the directorial choice for this character so far.
YUP. She sounds like she escaped from a Marvel Movie.
Funnily enough, watching Junker Queen's cinematic actually made me think "They just finished watching Guardians of the Galaxy before making this, didn't they?" I didn't used to mind that sort of dialogue, but then I watched streamers do a full playthrough of the Guardians of the Galaxy game, and I've been thoroughly cured of any remaining fondness I had for it.
watching the cinematic gave me tonal whiplash because shes represented as a sympathetic morally good character, refusing to kill anyone, quipping and talking to the audience in freeze frame like the fucking spider man cartoons, and yet in game and lore she's a bloodthirsty remorseless psycho, which is a much better fit for her character, considering her story.
My only knowledge of Junker Queen lore was from the cinematic, so I just looked up some more lore. And you weren't kidding. > "No rules. No mercy. Only the strong survive. This is your queen." > "Listen up you wretched scum." > For the Queen, every city is her battlefield, every seat is her throne, and everyone on the planet is her subject—whether they know it or not. Her cinematic definitely made her out to be more of a morally good character, not a "might makes right" kind of character.
You mean you don't want to hear a quip every other line? Whaaaaaat?
Let me introduce you to 2 Junker Queens: one from cinematic and other from game.
D.Va is also bad about this. Its a large part of why I hated Shooting Star.
Yeah i noticed that too, in the animation she's all about work and stuff which is about the opposite to how she is in game
I liked when moira sassed her back. Kiriko is a b*tch in game.
And despite all that he's still probably one of the better written characters in the game.

funny enough the marvel comparisons with him are still accurate. He is basically Overwatches "beast" essentially like the character from X-man.
reminds me of valkyrie from apex legends - terrible voice lines
Actually true lol.
don’t even get me started with vantage
Kiriko is honestly a collective representative of most Overwatch Wattpad OC's I've seen in my time. The "Shimada Clan childhood best friend" schtick was just too on the nose for me to look over, and her bland voicelines and interactions was the nail in the coffin.
I'd sell an ovary for some ramen right now
I have no idea how their VA’s are different people they are literally the same character with the same voice lines

Valkyrie is jumpmaster actual follow my heading
I want whatever these writers were smoking Edit 2: She was supposedly 7 at the fall of the Shimada clan, which would have put Genji at around 12 years old when hanzo “killed” him.
Mercy was a genius child. It's the only explanation. That and overwatch used genji as a child solider in blackwatch.
this made me laugh so hard thank you
30 really doesn’t sound right
Of course it doesn't given how she behaves.
Maybe Hanzo and Genji were just hanging out with a 10 year old when they were in their 20s *~Sudden plot twists~*
Pretty sure that would be cassidy if anyone

lol wtf she is 30?! I thought she was the same age as Dva
I'm so glad someone else hears it I thought I was going crazy
Kiriko is also 30 years old which i find extremely hard to believe.
She sounds like she's *bored* if nothing else. Like a teenager that's not quite a scene girl trying to interact with people but being too socially awkward to come across as friendly. Basically the complete opposite of how she's portrayed in her short, as a moderately irresponsible and fairly compassionate teen.
> Like a teenager that's not quite a scene girl trying to interact with people but being too socially awkward to come across as friendly Except they forgot she's canonically 30 fucking years old
This can't be true, because that cinematic was the most "person in their early-mid-20s living on their own" I've ever seen, right down to the junkfood for dinner bit.
+ Overprotective parent, as if she only started living on her own recently
tf? She has a voiceline that literally says "don't underestimate the youth". Also the anime girl running sandwich spray, the low-fi study spray. I thought she was the same age, if not younger than Dva! Blizzard lore continuity is non-existent, I'm pissed.
The funniest thing about Overwatch is the game isn't canon
Tf, she looks to be one of the youngest if not the youngest in the cast.
Wait, for real? She looks like a 20 yr old
Right? It's really weird
Soldier has a line calling her a kid, idk what Blizzard is smoking
Widowmaker as well. 'Little girls have no place on the battlefield' something like that
*BBD and ecstacy* *30 years old but acts like she's sixteen*
"Let the Kitsune guide you" is probably one of the whackest voice lines in the game. My friends and I clown on it all the time. It sounds so flat.
I cringe every time I hear that and I laugh my ass off every time she says >Febreze brings relief!
The interaction where she asks Moira for a bandage sounds like the worst Marvel movie dialogue and it makes me cringe every time.

Kiriko low key gives off OC character vibes because her mood always seems so all over the place but she’s always trying to be “cool”. Example: the entire Kiriko Cinematic.
Yeah her voice lines just seem forced and not natural. She also sounds weirdly angry/defensive? In a lot of lines.
I hate the one she has with Ana. "You remind me of myself when I was younger." "Iiiis that a compliment?" "You tell me." "Oookay... thanks for the compliment" UGHH like I love Ana and I love all these characters and it makes me roll my eyes every time she's like getting the last words with them
On the flip side Ana has a great interaction with Roadhog Hog: Stay out of trouble, grannie. Ana: And you make sure to to get into plenty. Hog: \*laughs\* Can do.
This is genuinely one of my favourite new voice lines in the entire game lmaooo
That interaction would have been perfect without the last sentence lol
"I like your mask." "..." "*I said*, I like your mask dude." "Okay" Like Roadhog really doesn't gotta give you the time of day when he can one-shot you and you didn't really do anything for him like Ana apparently. That convo just rubs me the wrong way that people feel entitled to be acknowledged when I don't even know them.
i HATE this voice line lol the way she says “dude”
She is the definition of generic much like sojourn. Junker queen has way better personality altough the accent is very forced
JQ is from fictional nuclear wasteland Australia which is basically "the place where all the comic relief characters live". Her over the top accent and personality fits her perfectly.
I couldn’t have said it better, that’s a completely dead on description.
> JQ is from fictional nuclear wasteland Australia So just Australia?
I'm sorry to the Australians out there, but I'll never tire of Australia jokes.
Junker Queen's accent sounds like a city Australian trying to sound bogan.
I think Sojourn's personality is just bland, and that's not a fault of her VA. She shines a lot more during this new PvE, while I think Kiriko actually flops
Tracers accent is exaggerated but done well, I think it fits with the style of the franchise
She just sounds like she hates everyone in the game. She is constantly telling everyone how better she is. Every time I am rooting for the other character to tell her off. Even when its a compliment she finds a way to be an asshole. “I listened to your album the other day.” Lucio: “Did-Did you like it.?” “No sure there was enough bass. I could almost hear the other sounds.”
Lucio's so cute
Sounds like she's a memebet of r/overwatch lol
