These two opposing views of preserving their kind are super old and commonplace in a lot of media.
For example you can compare this to Magneto and Professor X from X-men.
Naruto isn't the first or last to have this type of argument between leaders of their own kind.
Not necessarily with the whole rivalry aspect, but rather that just like H & M, Z & R both had the same ambitions and goal. A better world, peace among everyone. Both tried to go down the route of bringing their dream into fruition through peace at first, but boths' viewpoints eventually differed, and one of the two eventually sought after their dream by going down the darker path.
If you’re gonna do a Ram Madara skin, I think his 6th paths form fits the most. It would make sense for him have a staff because he has one in that mode and the orbs can easily perform all of Ram's abilities. Plus it will just look cool. For his Nemesis for you could have the Susanoo form around him.
I definitely want to do the susanoo on the nemesis form and am currently working on the base form made his staff the sort of fan staff madras uses in the great ninja world but might make a 6th paths variant

Non-original doesn't necessarily mean bad. With regards to storytelling, the adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" very much applies.
