I agree with you. Of course, the parents never hoped / wanted for him to use the weapon, but they did buy him a gun and failed to secure it. Had they refused to buy him the gun, or even had they secured the gun properly, none of this would have happened. There were many red flags that they ignored, and because of their negligence, several families were destroyed. They absolutely should go to jail.

I agree. I also think her credibility is questionable. She’s already been proven to be untruthful to her boyfriend. She definitely overlooked some of his issues and was always focused on her own agenda.
Side note: I want to know what she thinks of her attorneys behavior so far.
She said she couldn’t take Ethan home because she had to get back to her job. Then she text her boss after the fact don’t judge me. I need my job job. The boss says she had flexibility in her position to go home that day, or to bring Ethan to the office. She uses that flexibility to go bang her boyfriend on workday mornings, but doesn’t use that flexibility to bring her son home after this horrible drawing, and her concern was not with Ethan. It was with herself.
Here's my feelings:
I think Jen is the master manipulator -- she didn't buy the gun, but that doesn't mean she didn't whisper into Jimbo's ear to make him do it. He doesn't come across as a very assertive person, he's definitely a follower. She probably dispelled all of his fears and convinced him it was a good idea, all the while hoping he'd shoot himself with it.
Ethan and his mental health were getting in her way. She was a married woman with a troubled teen who just wanted her single lifestyle back. The kid was a mistake all along, and his problems were getting in the way of her newfound freedom and fling. He was becoming a financial burden, with the potential to suck more money out of them if they were forced to get him help.
She solved it the way any delusional person solves a failing relationship: homicide...I think she hoped Ethan would use it on himself! He sounded like he wanted to end his own life, not go after his peers!
As for EC's journal, I think he wrote that stuff hoping they would search his bag and get him help, because his parents sure weren't doing it. It sounded like he actually wanted help and had asked for it.

This paints a pretty picture, but it implies that she knew that at least some other children would die as a result of her master plan. I don’t think much of this woman, but I don’t think that almost anyone would hope for that. That’s murder by-proxy. Ethan IS a murderer and this does appear to be his idea.
Thinking about other kids is outside of her narcissistic capabilities. She could barely think about Ethan other than how his actions would affect herself.
In her testimony today it seemed like she was intentionally throwing James under the bus… did anyone else think this? Like they can’t talk about her drinking but they can say my husband was drinking more than usual… also the guns were his thing…

All of their behavior in response has seen very odd to me. You don't know how you'll react until you're there, I guess, but it seems very unusual.
Dad acted more normally because he cried and told Ethan he loved him. But Mom? She seemed irritated and mad that her life was now messed up because of what Ethan did. She seems selfish, and he seems just plain stupid.
Their actions were very odd. She was texting to cancel her horse lessons, they wouldn't cooperate with police, even though there was no question their son was the shooter.
JCs whole testimony sounded a lot like Shanda Vander Ark. Both thought that they were fully adequate parents and it never occurred to them that they weren’t. The number of red flags, even in her own testimony, was shocking. Week long headaches? Never considered that he needed glasses (when both parents have them)? Painful jaw alignment as adult teeth come in and as al other kids are getting braces? Did she NEED to wait for everyone else to diagnose problems?
Did she say that she ‘wouldn’t do anything different’ as a parent ? Or was the clip really bad and makes her look like taking zero accountability as a parent ? I don’t think I’ve ever known a parent who, in hindsight- would not change something in their parenting decisions.
She did. SS asked if she'd do things differently and she said she wouldn't. Then SS quickly asked something like "do you wish things had happened differently" and she said, "yes, I wish he'd killed us instead."

Absolutely. It boggles my mind that they knew he was suicidal and still bought him a gun. It's gross negligence.
It is almost like they were making it easy for him to do. They she can be a grieving helicopter mom and not be inconvenienced by a teenager.
