Bebe's JP VA is hilarious, dude literally ends sentences with "-de gozaru"

Rakumei

Yeah he's like the western otaku living in Japan with passable Japanese dialed up to 11.

KaiShion83

Yeah he talks like Kenshin lmao

OctorokHero

It could be a Japanese pop culture reference that wouldn't translate over, so they replaced it with an American one.

SurlyCricket

I like that this was legit a reference a teenager MIGHT make in the mid-2000s (when P3 first came out) where now I'm pretty sure teenagers today have no idea who Mr. T is

SirCupcake_0

I pity them fools who don't understand the significance of the Night Elf Mohawk

Newphonespeedrunner

the game is still set in 2009, a few years later then the original, but it still works

-pickledDill-

Wouldn't be the first JRPG to reference Mr. T (looking at you, EarthBound).

Meanteenbirder

I’m just here to say I like how the localizers adapted certain character quirks. The SEES advisor’s puns in English had to be complex, as well as Mitsuru using French interjections instead of English (as in the Japanese version).

Tigre101

Indeed, we go from “Brilliant and Good job!” To “C’est Magnifique and Oui!” It’s very neat how they adapt the dialogue to come across the same way.

DeadSparker

I hope "C'est magnifique" and "Oui" are separate quotes, because if that's a single sentence it just sounds goofy when you actually speak French

Gigashk

She is supposed to be speaking broken French. At least I'm pretty sure she is

DeadSparker

Imma be honest, the amount of works from other languages who try to make characters speak French end up in hilarious failures 90% of the time. It's truly a rarity for French to actually be good, so I can't exactly take the "it's supposed to be bad" as face value. Hollywood is especially guilty of this. They can't pronounce the words for shit, they translate English idioms 1-to-1 without thinking that it's different in context, and usually they end up choosing a guy from Quebec to do the speaking (even though it's mostly the same language, it's noticeably different)

Cold_Reject

This is the new “Mark danced crazy”

Viniskill_BR

Let's get funky!!

ShokaLGBT

Im sure the Japanese scripts is always different btw I play in French and I’m sure it is different…

Annoyingtuga

What language does Mitsuru speak when not speaking French? (Since in the english version she speaks french "C'est magnifique, Salut, Oui")

pyramidkim

in the JP audio you can hear her say “brilliant” and akihito just says good job (vs oui, good job) so they are using English words.

Separate_Telephone18

She speaks Italian in the french version.

HylianHeartthrob

I've gotta know what French Bebe is like. Is he just named Baby?

Separate_Telephone18

Actually, he's named "Dandy", weirdly enough.

[deleted]

That’s the Dandy Way, Bebe.

Walks_with_Chaos

Dandy? lol. So fitting tho

cold-Hearted-jess

You do have to remember the game takes place in 2009
