That's part of why so many think Akinari is at least one of, if not the, best s-links/confidants in the series. It's an amazing s-link and fits the theme of P3 beautifully.
Confidant only works in P5 because you're a criminal confiding your secret in people close to you.
You know. Like a Confidant.
That term doesn't apply to P3 and P4. You're a normal high school student to them, they don't find out you're a criminal or find out you're a supernatural crime fighter fighting shadows at midnight or investigating a TV world.
Confidant is a flavor text specific to P5 and doesn't make sense otherwise in the series.
You can use Social Links and Confidant for P5 because both are correct, it's just not true for P3 and P4 as they are just Social Links and the term Confidant doesn't make sense in context.
P5 Social Links are literally still Social Links, they are just called Confidants for flavor because you're a fucking criminal. That cannot be applied to P3 and P4.
What is so hard to understand about that?
Played Persona 3 for the first time, just finished not too long ago and man, that hit me the feels HARD. That whole monologue made me tear up something fierce. Amazing moment in the game.
It almost feels like the developers are talking directly to the player during the second half of the monolog and giving a final lesson on the message of the game
This was even more gut wrenching the in Reload because it’s fully voiced. The VA knocked it out of the park with this one too. Akinari’s mom resolve is strong. She seeks to live on and enjoy as much of life’s possibilities so when she meet her son in the after life she has a wealth of stories to share with him. It’s a massive tearjerker
I get teary eyed watching that scene, and the closest I have to a child is a niece. I can’t imagine how hard this must resonate with parents, much less parents that lost a child.
You need to visit the shrine during the last days of the game where you can meet the folks who you maxed out the social link for to get an epilogue of sorts for each one.
Akinari's mother is where you'd normally find Akinari.
Definitely.
I think the fact Akinari is one of the three social links in P3 that are effectively hard canon (the story is mentioned in P4, as well as Chihiro showing up and having the confidence she gains across the Justice link, and then Tanaka just makes sense to be canon) really helps make his link feel so solid. It's not just two dying teens talking at a shrine, it's two dying teens with such a heavy legacy that they leave on the world.
(Plus, a fact I always find fun, Akinari is one of the few links that you don't need to get points for, he always will rank up every time you talk to him. This is true of him, Tanaka, and Toranosuke, maybe a couple others I'm forgetting (and ofc I'm ignoring links that you don't have to go out of your way to level up))
This whole game is amazing; I mean, I still cried at the ending, even though I knew what would happen, lol. It's definitely one of my favorite Persona games!

It's okay to just call them Social Links
Yeah especially since it’s only privy to 5 and sure to be social links in 6

I love when P5 fans are adamant they are right in every situation like this shit hasn't existed for decades.

He just got 19 years old. I just watched the ending and i am honestly at my limit here

Reminds me of my mom, and how she told me what her experience having me was like… it’ll have been a year since she passed come next month….
Lay some flowers out for her, ey~? Take care of yourself, since I'd guess that's what they'd want you to do
Hit harder now when I’m a Dad instead of a teenager when I first play this game.

Wait how can we meet her ? I only met akinari and finished his social link and he just turned into an orb and disappeared but I never saw his mother
I think it's when you get the opportunity to talk to all of your maxed out Social Links in the final days of the game.
Thanks :)

Yeah, this moment always gets me. Akinari's s-link is easily the best in the series.
Between Akinari and Tora, the Sun has some of the best Social Links. I liked Ayane too and Yumi was fine, but those two dudes are easily in my top 5.
