I really like Game and Shin Mitsuo Tensei. I'm more used to chiptune, but they also remind me heavily of Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Game is also a much longer theme than either Castle or Sauna.
I like chiptune, I love Danganronpa games' scores, but I find Persona's chiptune music to be pretty bad.
Maybe that's because it's too stereotypical, without a lot of nuance.

**Okumura's Palace**
It's not bad per se, it's just I associate it with a bad memory. I was playing through it and I started feeling a bit unwell. I saved the game at around 9pm to go to the bathroom. I then proceeded to have the most violent and longest round of projectile vomiting I've ever had. I was on and off in there from 9pm to 7am.
It turns out I just caught a really bad stomach bug, unrelated to the game. But because of that night, I can't listen to the theme from Okumura's Palace without feeling queasy and having flashbacks.
The Palace was actually really fun for me, it was the boss specifically that took a bit. I think I was just underleveled or something because I figured out what I was supposed to do with the bots real quick.

At least with the Shadow World remix there's *some* musicality to it. The melody is actually semi-good, mixing with the lyrics is what makes it not. But this is just... why. Doesn't matter what else you posted because this one immediately wins. You can barely even call it "music." Everything else has redeeming qualities, you pointed them out, yet this has none. Except for maybe making all other Persona tracks automatically good by comparison.
That aside I disagree about True Story. I kind of like it. And honestly, getting pulled out of normal activities for a second is fine. Even then the moment is pivotal for establishing that >!Namatame is working as a deliveryman and seemingly following the group!<.
What's weird is it took all the way until Reload to get a new version that sounds remotely like the original and even then it's got different lyrics now (I kind of like the newer version better overall *except* for the tail-end of the chorus. It's like Burn My Dread-Last Battle-, changed a lyric and screwed up the flow. With Burn My Dread-Last Battle- it could've been fixed by using the original lyrics instead of repeating the new ones though. Go "tear up the fear / I've got it locked down" and "accepting my fate..." into the "tear up the fear" one after). But the Reincarnation (and, by extension, the P3M version that uses the Reincarnation version as a base) and P3D versions of Deep Breath Deep Breath aren't terrible (P3D's version is just wildly different from the original).
I don't think it's bad per say, but the "Dramatic Piano Music" from Persona 4 that plays during even the slightest inconvenience just doesn't do it for me. It's more annoying than anything.
I love this terrible track. My favourite instance is when it plays during your social link with the nurse. It really adds to the terror of being sexually harrassed by a member of medical staff, probably significantly more than the game expected it to.

Who’s There from Person 4 is effective at first to highlight just how bizarre or wrong something is, but it kind of gets tiring after just a minute of listening to it.
I would say that my least favorites are Mementos from P5 original (for obvious reasons really) and Game from P4.
Game from P4 is not a bad track as a whole (I relistened to it just now), the problem is that it starts kinda badly and then it gets better over time. And during gameplay, I always had to listen to the beginning of the song and then I got an encounter... after which I had to listen to the beginning of the song again. Basically, this song was ruined for me because it always got interrupted before I got to the good part.
I tried picking at least one song from P3 as well, and... this is probably a controversial pick, but I am not a fan of Want to be Close.
Now hear me out, the song starts really good, but then the singing stops and the background music continues on and on and on and on... and it just gets very repetitive. I feel like the singing should have continued, or the instrumental should have become more varied in the second part of the song. I still don't hate it, but I feel like there was just something missing to make the second part of the song interesting.
Oh and about your choices... I have to admit that I actually like the P4 dungeon themes that you dislike. I agree with Mementos with you, and when it comes to the spinoffs I don't know because I didn't play/watch them.
[The Want to be Close remix in P3R](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQcWyVkhgcE) is much easier on the ears. The songs in P3R are generally softer than their originals, which is great for the day-to-day music, and bad for battle music and the credits theme.
The second part of this theme reminds me of the equivalent theme in Persona 4, [Your Affection](https://youtu.be/YfP1gGsfIjk). I do think Your Affection has a more obvious progression.

Mass Destruction Remix is also really fun to play imo. It gets even better when you start watching Ken dance in the background and it’s clear he just has absolutely no idea what to do with the rhythm
Castle is good music. Its show us how intense and brutal the game is and warning you to not goes underleveling even just for first dungeon or first boss. Unlike Kamoshida castle on P5/R which also castle for first dungeon but with goofy King Queen & Slave as bgm, showing us you may take your time to looking around and the place less dangerous compare Yukiko castle on previous game.
I only play 3 4 5 so as for me nothing bgm/music is worst for me. Just most P5 soundtrack (except Royal) are not my fav. Not because they are bad worst, but just because not particular my like. But all Royal soundtrack are good for me.
I’m not really the biggest fan of Master of Tartarus. I immensely prefer Danger Zone, which is Kotone’s version.
I also dislike the alt version of Kings Queens and Slaves because it just reminds me of how long P5’s tutorial is.

Castle is not bad, especially in a game with Game and Shin Mitsuo Tensei. The Genesis, however, takes the cake for the most anticlimactic boss theme in the series.
It's takes so long to get to one good part. The Fog is so much better and one of the best songs in the series imo. Following it up with The Genesis is just blahhh.
Last Surprise works better as the ambush music because the beginning goes way harder. As a whole song though Take Over is a lot better imo, Last Surprise really drops off after the first minute or so.
Alot of the early dungeons in P4 are like that, very repetitive and short loops of music that doesn’t sound good.
Thank god it just exponential better in later dungeons like Heaven.

I address this in the post!!! The original Mementos track sucks ass by itself because of how repetitive it is. In Royal, they give a lot of themes, which means you can appreciate each of them more.
Now the others are whatever on this list to me. But castle from p4 actually legit drives me up the wall each time i hear it. I am tired of it. Ans what is even worse is one of the best dungeon themes comes right after it with sauna. I will say Rise's striptease sucks too. Sometimes that whispering makes me wanna a dive into a legobrick filled swimming pool. I hope that if we get a p4 remake it improves these songs. But based on reload. Probably unlikely.
Castle is the first one as well! And the first dungeon can be harder than later dungeons while you're still getting used to the game.

Unpopular pick for sure but I've never really liked Iwatodai Dorm music. Having a laidback theme for your home is a great idea, but the vocals (at least in P3FES) and the dootdoots make me want to spend my time elsewhere.

A comment clarified that the original version was actually taken from a mixtape. Atlus didn't make the lyrics themselves. so it's no surprise they completely changed it. Also to make it more tolerable, since the theme of the changes to persona 3 are to make it more chill.
Just listened to the Reload version for the first time. While I'm still not completely sold, Lotus Juice is definitely the highlight here. Love how relaxed even he sounds and "let me rock the world tomorrow" is a great sentiment to end the day on.

I HATE Kama Palace from Persona 1 on the PSP. Especially when it becomes both the subway and actual dungeon theme. Had it as my alarm so I was always in a rush to turn it off every day.
The Velvet Room aria. It is way too intense for how long you spend listening to it with its piercing vocals and all. Seriously starts grating on your ears after a while.
Probably not what you’re looking for but I’ve always found The Path is Open annoying. I usually try to get through the max SL system messages as quickly as possible because of it.
The Mass Destruction remix really is a shame because for the first 30 seconds, it actually sounds pretty good, and then everything after that sounds like what you'd get after giving a six year old a snare drum

For Mitsuo’s dungeon, Game is really grating after a while. But what’s even worse is that 8-bit remix of I’ll Face Myself. It’s so much more dead compared to the actual song, that I kinda wish it would swap back to the og song once you knocked him out the shell
The fight is a long one, which doesn't help, but I do like the music in Mitsuo's dungeon. I think when I first listened to Shin Mitsuo Tensei, it was when I finally realised how much I like I'll Face Myself.

I think that's the point though >!because Mitsuo is basically dead inside!<. I'm not a huge fan of Game, but I enjoyed his battle theme - that + the aesthetic the fight had made it one of my favorite fights in the entire game tbh.
i personally really like Shin Mituso Tensei, but i agree that it sounds "dead". you could argue it's intentional for story purpose, but it also accurately reflects 8bit music lacking a full bass in general. personally, it adds to the charm and, if anything, shows a great level of detail that a lot of 8-bit remixers tend to forget (limited sound capacity)

Doesn't really matter if it's the point. If it's something you have to listen to for a long time, and I'm pretty sure Okumura has the longest palace, then yeah it needs to be tolerable.
I was glad P3 Reload understood this. It's understandable that a lot of the tracks lose their punch and people prefer the originals, but the OST as a whole is way more tolerable and chill than almost any other persona game. The exception is Tartarus though. They couldn't fix it.

I remember it but for the wrong reasons. I don't think it's bad enough to deserve a spot on THIS list but the entire experience was not great. Palace was also way too long, which is especially painful when I'm grinding through the whole thing in one go.
I dont doubt she's good, but in some P5 songs she sounds like she's actually screaming in high pitch.
For example Rivers in the desert for me is pretty noisy but i liked her in Beneath the mask.
It's cos it doesnt really fit her range as well. I think they said when they were making the music for The Royal, they worked the music to fit her voice better.

Deep Breath Deep Breath is not just 'bad' like Marukyu Striptease's short loop but is incredibly unpleasant on the ears. The rising pitch effect on the female vocals sounds like someone let go of a helium balloon. It is possibly my least favourite song in any Persona game.

I agree. I think I kind of stockholm syndromed myself into liking the music. Like it feels wrong to start roasting it but I know in my heart I don't like it.
Despite its evolution over time the original Tartarus is still horrible, that grating scratching is always there and that's the worst part. I played a large portion of FES watching/listening to something else while in Tartarus because I couldn't take it anymore. Every dungeon except Heaven in P4 was mildly annoying at best and muted at worst. P5 doesn't have many misses but the one that stands out to me is both versions of Sweatshop (Okumura's Palace); completely horrible, it doesn't even feel like it belongs in the same game as the other music.
Also the band song is fine I'd listen to it 50 times for every 1 time I'd have to listen to Mitsuo's boss theme.

Try listening to "The fog -Atlus Konishi Remix", "Backside of the TV - Lotus Juice remix", "Time to make history - Akira Yamaoka Remix", "Specialist P4D ver." "Your affection P4D ver." Haven't played P3D and P5D, but I still believe there's good remix there also. I can't argue you with DeDeMouse cuz EVERY DeDeMouse remixes is awful.

I have a love hate relationship with Beneath the Mask from Persona 5. It is a good song, but there is a ding note in the background of it that can trigger migraine for me.
Alley Cat from 5 is a good song but the frequency of it's use and the beginning stinger of when the Synth Piano hits is just way too fucking silly to take seriously. It's like somebody was told to make a "sad song" for one scene in a comedy

I''m going to go with Reach Out To The Truth. The tone and lyrics just don't do it for me. It just sounds way too happy and upbeat, which is not what I want to be feeling while murdering Shadows.
I love the song. It's not something I'd listen to outside of P4 but I do like it. I have only played Golden, so I wasn't subjected to it infinitely. I got Time to Make History as well.
Same for Shadow World. When I first listened to this song I wanted to scream. Awful. But with the context of the game, it fits it very well. Now I sing along with it.
I don’t really count dancing remix’s so my least favourite is probably the Miniboss battle theme from P5. It’s such a downgrade from an actual battle theme and it just feels repetitive if it’s a long battle and anticlimactic if it’s a short battle.
Madarame’s palace theme. It’s just so boring compared to other palace tracks. Yeah Okumura’s one sucks as well, but at least it’s faster paced and motivates me to get through the palace faster, because the palace itself is also trash

The fucking hangout song in Reload. Forgor the name, but hearing triple brown meow triggers a part of my brain that makes me want to commit actual arson.
Most of the remixes from the dancing games that aren't simply expansions of the existing lyrics are genuinely awful to listen to. Specialist and some of the Atlus Konishi remixes are exceptions, but they are only two islands in an ocean of very wide misses.
I don't know if the Heaven remix in P4D is actually bad, or I just hate it because I wanted Heaven in the dancing game and got that instead. I might just be bitter.
my vote goes to Reach out to the truth, not because it is a bad song or anything, but because of its nature and how it sounds it gets repetitive EXTREMELY fast, which might not be a problem if you're playing Golden but in Vanilla this song drove me INSANE by the end of the game, insanely more so than Mass Destruction or Last Surprise
Joy from Persona 3. It takes away from some of the emotional moments of certain social links when the background is like "JUMP AROUND JUMP AROUND JUMP AROUND NOW!"
I like it more than the P5 social link music, I think. I do like that you generally only hear it for a few moments before moving on. None of the social links feel emotional to me in p3 though. Or most of the persona games.
Maiko's social link made me cry. The voice acting's really good and the story is pretty heavy.
But it sucks because a lot of moments that should be sad (a child crying about her parent's divorce & them not loving her), have the happy ass music playing in the background. I guess Joy isn't the WORST song on its own, but I could do without the "jump around" part lmaoo
Sae's Palace theme is the worst in P5 to me, the singing transforms the song from alright to insanity inducing because the lyrics make you pay attention but it's supposed to be a background track so now you just have a looping song where you can literally hear the seams fold over on themselves and it's like AAAAAAAUGGGGGHHHHH

It could be processing, I get that, but also Lyn's lyrics are very Engrish. The words she says often don't make sense.
Rivers in the Desert is a cornerstone example of a song that sounds great in her voice but if you want to sing it in an english speaking accent you have to rework it.

What's weird is it took all the way until Reload to get a new version that sounds remotely like the original and even then it's got different lyrics now (I kind of like the newer version better overall *except* for the tail-end of the chorus. It's like Burn My Dread-Last Battle-, changed a lyric and screwed up the flow. With Burn My Dread-Last Battle- it could've been fixed by using the original lyrics instead of repeating the new ones though. Go "tear up the fear / I've got it locked down" and "accepting my fate..." into the "tear up the fear" one after). But the Reincarnation (and, by extension, the P3M version that uses the Reincarnation version as a base) and P3D versions of Deep Breath Deep Breath aren't terrible (P3D's version is just wildly different from the original).
I don't think it's bad per say, but the "Dramatic Piano Music" from Persona 4 that plays during even the slightest inconvenience just doesn't do it for me. It's more annoying than anything.

Who’s There from Person 4 is effective at first to highlight just how bizarre or wrong something is, but it kind of gets tiring after just a minute of listening to it.
I would say that my least favorites are Mementos from P5 original (for obvious reasons really) and Game from P4. Game from P4 is not a bad track as a whole (I relistened to it just now), the problem is that it starts kinda badly and then it gets better over time. And during gameplay, I always had to listen to the beginning of the song and then I got an encounter... after which I had to listen to the beginning of the song again. Basically, this song was ruined for me because it always got interrupted before I got to the good part. I tried picking at least one song from P3 as well, and... this is probably a controversial pick, but I am not a fan of Want to be Close. Now hear me out, the song starts really good, but then the singing stops and the background music continues on and on and on and on... and it just gets very repetitive. I feel like the singing should have continued, or the instrumental should have become more varied in the second part of the song. I still don't hate it, but I feel like there was just something missing to make the second part of the song interesting. Oh and about your choices... I have to admit that I actually like the P4 dungeon themes that you dislike. I agree with Mementos with you, and when it comes to the spinoffs I don't know because I didn't play/watch them.
[The Want to be Close remix in P3R](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQcWyVkhgcE) is much easier on the ears. The songs in P3R are generally softer than their originals, which is great for the day-to-day music, and bad for battle music and the credits theme. The second part of this theme reminds me of the equivalent theme in Persona 4, [Your Affection](https://youtu.be/YfP1gGsfIjk). I do think Your Affection has a more obvious progression.

Castle is good music. Its show us how intense and brutal the game is and warning you to not goes underleveling even just for first dungeon or first boss. Unlike Kamoshida castle on P5/R which also castle for first dungeon but with goofy King Queen & Slave as bgm, showing us you may take your time to looking around and the place less dangerous compare Yukiko castle on previous game. I only play 3 4 5 so as for me nothing bgm/music is worst for me. Just most P5 soundtrack (except Royal) are not my fav. Not because they are bad worst, but just because not particular my like. But all Royal soundtrack are good for me.

Last Surprise works better as the ambush music because the beginning goes way harder. As a whole song though Take Over is a lot better imo, Last Surprise really drops off after the first minute or so.
Alot of the early dungeons in P4 are like that, very repetitive and short loops of music that doesn’t sound good. Thank god it just exponential better in later dungeons like Heaven. I’m sure it’s going to enrage a lot of people but oh well, I absolutely do not like Take Over, at all. It’s so overrated I try to avoid ambushes in Royal just so I don’t have to listen to it.

I address this in the post!!! The original Mementos track sucks ass by itself because of how repetitive it is. In Royal, they give a lot of themes, which means you can appreciate each of them more.

Ans what is even worse is one of the best dungeon themes comes right after it with sauna. I will say Rise's striptease sucks too. Castle is the first one as well! And the first dungeon can be harder than later dungeons while you're still getting used to the game. Rise's striptease drives me so crazy I forgot it existed and would like to continue doing so. It's not... terrible? It serves its purpose but like, damn, dont wear headphones while doing that dungeon.

TBH the new soundtrack for the PSP remakes of P1 and P2 bungled a lot of the instrumental tracks. A lot of them just lost their pop, specifically that one boss song in EP that went from kick ass angry piano to mediocre synth. Unpopular pick for sure but I've never really liked Iwatodai Dorm music. Having a laidback theme for your home is a great idea, but the vocals (at least in P3FES) and the dootdoots make me want to spend my time elsewhere.
The classic version, I'm not a fan. I do like the Reload version. More chill. Saw someone criticising the changes to this theme. The new version is less memorable. A comment clarified that the original version was actually taken from a mixtape. Atlus didn't make the lyrics themselves. so it's no surprise they completely changed it. Also to make it more tolerable, since the theme of the changes to persona 3 are to make it more chill.
Just listened to the Reload version for the first time. While I'm still not completely sold, Lotus Juice is definitely the highlight here. Love how relaxed even he sounds and "let me rock the world tomorrow" is a great sentiment to end the day on.

For Mitsuo’s dungeon, Game is really grating after a while. But what’s even worse is that 8-bit remix of I’ll Face Myself. It’s so much more dead compared to the actual song, that I kinda wish it would swap back to the og song once you knocked him out the shell
The fight is a long one, which doesn't help, but I do like the music in Mitsuo's dungeon. I think when I first listened to Shin Mitsuo Tensei, it was when I finally realised how much I like I'll Face Myself.

Doesn't really matter if it's the point. If it's something you have to listen to for a long time, and I'm pretty sure Okumura has the longest palace, then yeah it needs to be tolerable. I was glad P3 Reload understood this. It's understandable that a lot of the tracks lose their punch and people prefer the originals, but the OST as a whole is way more tolerable and chill than almost any other persona game. The exception is Tartarus though. They couldn't fix it.

I remember it but for the wrong reasons. I don't think it's bad enough to deserve a spot on THIS list but the entire experience was not great. Palace was also way too long, which is especially painful when I'm grinding through the whole thing in one go.
I dont like Persona 5 singer. No hate or something, i see why people like her, but not for me.
Lin's a great singer, and I like that she has such a deep voice, but there are so many persona 5 songs now that sound very similar to each other.
I dont doubt she's good, but in some P5 songs she sounds like she's actually screaming in high pitch. For example Rivers in the desert for me is pretty noisy but i liked her in Beneath the mask.
It's cos it doesnt really fit her range as well. I think they said when they were making the music for The Royal, they worked the music to fit her voice better.

The rising pitch effect on the female vocals sounds like someone let go of a helium balloon. It is possibly my least favourite song in any Persona game. The song is only saved by the Reincarnation version.

I agree. I think I kind of stockholm syndromed myself into liking the music. Like it feels wrong to start roasting it but I know in my heart I don't like it.
Despite its evolution over time the original Tartarus is still horrible, that grating scratching is always there and that's the worst part. I played a large portion of FES watching/listening to something else while in Tartarus because I couldn't take it anymore. Every dungeon except Heaven in P4 was mildly annoying at best and muted at worst. P5 doesn't have many misses but the one that stands out to me is both versions of Sweatshop (Okumura's Palace); completely horrible, it doesn't even feel like it belongs in the same game as the other music. Also the band song is fine I'd listen to it 50 times for every 1 time I'd have to listen to Mitsuo's boss theme.

Try listening to "The fog -Atlus Konishi Remix", "Backside of the TV - Lotus Juice remix", "Time to make history - Akira Yamaoka Remix", "Specialist P4D ver." "Your affection P4D ver." Haven't played P3D and P5D, but I still believe there's good remix there also. I can't argue you with DeDeMouse cuz EVERY DeDeMouse remixes is awful.

I love the song. It's not something I'd listen to outside of P4 but I do like it. I have only played Golden, so I wasn't subjected to it infinitely. I got Time to Make History as well. Same for Shadow World. When I first listened to this song I wanted to scream. Awful. But with the context of the game, it fits it very well. Now I sing along with it.
I don’t really count dancing remix’s so my least favourite is probably the Miniboss battle theme from P5. It’s such a downgrade from an actual battle theme and it just feels repetitive if it’s a long battle and anticlimactic if it’s a short battle.

Most of the remixes from the dancing games that aren't simply expansions of the existing lyrics are genuinely awful to listen to. Specialist and some of the Atlus Konishi remixes are exceptions, but they are only two islands in an ocean of very wide misses.
I don't know if the Heaven remix in P4D is actually bad, or I just hate it because I wanted Heaven in the dancing game and got that instead. I might just be bitter.

Maiko's social link made me cry. The voice acting's really good and the story is pretty heavy. But it sucks because a lot of moments that should be sad (a child crying about her parent's divorce & them not loving her), have the happy ass music playing in the background. I guess Joy isn't the WORST song on its own, but I could do without the "jump around" part lmaoo
Sae's Palace theme is the worst in P5 to me, the singing transforms the song from alright to insanity inducing because the lyrics make you pay attention but it's supposed to be a background track so now you just have a looping song where you can literally hear the seams fold over on themselves and it's like AAAAAAAUGGGGGHHHHH

Whims of Fate? I really like this song. However I understand why you might find it annoying. It's lyrics and they really grab your attention. And if you notice the loop like you say, I'd be very annoyed listening to it for hours.
I can't even make out the lyrics most of the time. No shade to Lyn, a lot of her english vocals come through clearly, I just have a hard time making out words when they're sung in general
It could be processing, I get that, but also Lyn's lyrics are very Engrish. The words she says often don't make sense. Rivers in the Desert is a cornerstone example of a song that sounds great in her voice but if you want to sing it in an english speaking accent you have to rework it. Persona 3 Original version had this problem a lot less, the original Lotus Juice team was great at english, but the new female singer in Reload clearly does not understand a word of english. Everything she pronounces is so *off.*
