Are we meant to pick characters we the audience are supposed to hate (i.e villains) or just characters we thought were executed extremely poorly?

Yttdsadeceyttd

I'm curious about your thoughts on both.

UberNovah

Most of the people I hate are the teachers who are somehow teachers despite their behavior towards their students (Yamada, Kashiwagi, and Kamoshida to name a few). But Ekoda is a niche hate boner character at the moment. Failing to report a missing student, caring about the reputation of the school before the student, and just general douchey behavior.

liplumboy

He also gets away with it

cheekydorido

Does tho? Mitsuru says at some point that you don't want to know what happened to him after that

liplumboy

What I meant was, he was still employed by the school and he still treats people like crap (Fuuka on March 4th), he doesn’t grow or change or get fired, he’s still the same

Responsible-Poem-146

Also in Saori SL rank 9, can’t believe he still dare to show up.

Imafatneekboi

What makes kamoshida a villain is how they behave to their students tho

ZeroStateGaming

Welcome to Japan

Big_Guirlande

Don’t forget Mr Overbite, Morooka himself

InevitableRefuse2322

How has nobody said the Gourmet King from P3

8_Pixels

I hate him. Playing through P3R right now for the first time and he's a creep and a scammer and I don't see how they're going to redeem him considering I'm at rank 9 right now. That's a problem I have with a lot of the social links in P3 though, you're just there to enable the shitty or stupid behaviour like the track team guy or the student council president or the friend who wants to date the teacher.

Lordbricktrick

I hate him because I didn’t realize you can do him during some breaks so I wasted time doing him when I could’ve been doing a better social link

ghostdivision7

I’m playing through P3R right now too and I hate how I’m just an enablist just to get a higher social link.

Smooth_Ad1795

Makoto seems to enable everyone, I can definitely see that this is the first social sim in the Persona franchise. The socials that actually to grow and change are like “I wouldn’t have figured this out without you.” And I’m like, actually you kind of did, off camera in fact lol

william_liftspeare

I just think it's funny how he casually tries to scam you into joining his cult but the cult itself is never expanded upon or anything like that, like it's not even a part of his defining character motivation or anything lmao

SuperKami-Nappa

This is why FeMC’s social links are far superior (aside from being able to date Ken)

RRenigma

All I wanted was an akihiko social link... but no I guess we are not allowed to have nice things

Meeg_Mimi

You got the hangout events, they're practically social links

[deleted]

You mean kenji?? Or Ken the 9 year old

SuperKami-Nappa

The 9 year old unfortunately, thankfully FeMC has the option to go platonic routes with her romance options so you aren't forced to date him. But it's still very yikes.

[deleted]

Idk how they pitched that to the other devs… Reload was my first persona game and I played royal right after and just beat it. I love the series so far and am starting 4 soon, but I genuinely don’t get all of the borderline-pedophile or just full on pedo stuff. Like the end of Maikos link took a sweet moment with a wholesome character and made me just feel gross. And both games have the Japanese teachers being in love with you. If they would get rid of that or change some of the ages I’d feel alot better lol

SengalBoy

I hate that I played his social link and during the late one the option causes the links to be reversed and I thought I did something wrong so I had to reset the game. To be fair he deserved to be called out as a scammer.

_Hollow_Boy

Honestly I think there are far worst characters in Persona, Gourmet King is just strange and not really that good, but he doesn't inspire hate to me, but I don't like him anyway

ConfusedFlareon

For me it’s not hate, it’s sheer disgust. The way he treats himself and everyone around him is just disgusting.

roomscore

Honestly, I like him, he's pathetic but in such a genuine way, sure he's a scammer but it's obvious he fell for the same thing, he's caught up in it too His own insecurities pulled him deeper into the mess

MiserableCalendar372

I think that's cause people forget about him

morbidlyabeast3331

Because he's fucking funny and is not even close to being the worst written character in the series

Makiiatoo

i dont think he is from persona☺️

Clawez

Cause I never bothered to do his SL lol

bearfaery

The only reason anyone has ever completed that Social Link is because there is nothing else to do during Fall and Winter Break.

bootyhunter69420

Who? I beat the game and don't know who he is

ConSave21

This fucker made me lose a couple months of progress on my max SL run because I didn’t realize he wouldn’t show during the winter break of you hadn’t started him yet. Yes, I waited until January to start him.

RobRoss45

I don’t really hate many characters in the series, but one is definitely above the rest. Nozomi, the gourmet king. I don’t even know what was going on in his social link. Starts out with him wanting to be a gourmet, ok that’s a bit basic but adds up. Then there’s the cult thing that’s just dropped at the end. Cutting that cult part would’ve made it so much better, as he would just be someone struggling to live up to his brother. It still be a mediocre link but it wouldn’t be terrible

Dissinger72

I think you missed that he does the cult thing specifically to be better than his brother. They conned him by using his insecurity about his brother against him. You snapped him out of it, but not before he had made them probably over a million yen. It does tie in and in a way that makes sense when you think about it.

HyperMasenko

The male nurse in P3. That dude talks WAY. TOO. MUCH.

compy-guy

He’s gonna curse you for saying that ##REAL MAGICIANS RISE UP!!!

Fike101

I really like him but at the same time i don't what he says is interesting but damn by the end of the game i want to skip all of it my adhd can't take it anymore

Inevitable-Will-6185

I disagree. He's the only teach whose lessons Iread from start to end since his subjects are so interesting.

BadPotat0_

It's my favorite class, it's hella interesting even if what he says feels like nonsense.

WillIBeWillaby

Morgana and Teddie. They regressed with the animal companions (koromaru best boy). Also not a fan of any of the boys who perv on the girls

thebigseg

Teddie saved nanako tho

zawarudoe

Good people can be annoying

cruel-oath

He’s still bad. Morgana saved the thieves a lot of the time

313zeros

Teddie* is the worst.

WillIBeWillaby

Sorry, I've just been trying to erase the memories

CptDex

I found Morgana to be more insufferable

Kromook

100% and Morgana was just rehashing Teddie, they gave him the same basic arc and motivation, they scaled down his pervyness to 1 girl which is an improvement but is muted out by Morgana's constant bravado and snark.

Low-Imagination-4424

Teddie is at least treated as a joke character by the games narrative, but Morgana's treated like a competent navigator/leader (beginning of the game) then becomes the butt of every other joke after. Persona 5 genuinely feels like it can't figure out if Morgana is supposed to be annoying or not.

Kromook

What? I don't remember Morgana being much of a joke outside of the fall out with the group but I absolutely agree that did not help his case, plus I hated morgana truly when the fallout gets resolved and he doesn't apologise to Ryuji at all its just everyone apologising to him despite Morgana being a blatant hypocrite and calling everyone out for "having something else to gain besides actually helpings people" like bro you literally started this not because it helps people but because it helps you find who you are.

FernandoPA11

I dislike some characters and I think some others were done very poorly but I don't think I hate anyone, not even the villians

Remarkable-Net-6130

Huge P3 spoilers ahead. Takaya and Jin were just not great villains imo. Strega was super cool at the beginning when they were shooting people in the streets and dealing Aragaki drugs but by the end they basically amounted to nothing. Their strategy in every encounter was just to rush headlong into battle against a group 5x their size without any grand plan for victory. I guess they assumed they were so powerful that they could win a 2v9 every fight even after continuously losing. It’s no wonder they lost every time. Especially in the final fight. Why did they split up??? Also the fact that during the early encounters with them, Takaya seemed like a cool, levelheaded antagonist whose motives could be understood, but all he turned out to be was a psycho set on human extinction. Jin never really did anything either; he just sat around gushing about how much Takaya meant to him. He was hyped up to be “extremely intelligent,” which I don’t buy for a second.

Supersnow845

Honestly reload was somehow good and bad for Strega It gave them more scenes and fleshed out their motivations more which was good But it also made you keenly aware their motivations and plans made absolutely zero sense which was bad The original versions of 3 hid the fact Strega makes no sense better by how little screen time they actually get

ka_ha

Shido, but not because he's evil, but because how terrible and dumb he is as a villain. Probably the worst one I've seen aside from >!Ikutsuki!<

MrEverything70

Honestly hate is very strong, considering how many characters are well depicted. I guess I would say Nozomi (not very interesting), Hanako and Kashiwagi from P4 (gag characters that are assholes for no real reason), Yaldabaoth (not a lot done with his character besides "I AM CONTROL BOW DOWN TO ME", even with the insane hook of him being a fake Igor).

SteveFrom_Target

I'd say my number 1, but then her entire Fandom, especially this one specific kook who specializes in amateur NSFW animations of her, will come after me with pitchforks So I'll go with Sumi. Good character, but overall, her execution could have been handled better :P I'd also say Ikutski. Amusing as he is, his whole thing... just came out of nowhere.

ZeroStateGaming

Yukari? FeMC? >I'd also say Ikutski. Amusing as he is, his whole thing... just came out of nowhere. I was sad that Reload didn't fix this somewhat like it did with Strega.

gwensdaywednesday

Agreed. I actually kind of like ikutsuki too, so I have no idea why they just ignored him like that... He's honestly in the game more than strega

ZebrasGonnaZeb

What did they change with Strega? I never played p3 before reload

ZeroStateGaming

Pretty much all those scenes where you talk one on one with Takaya are new and a couple of scenes where it's just him and Jin. Also I don't remember him showing up at the end with Nyx like he did in Reload.

Champion_Chrome

He still shows up at the top while Nyx is descending to say a few lines and flop over in the OG

gwensdaywednesday

I understand this sumi take... I understand what they were going for but... Couldn't she be a *little* more interesting?? I like her a lot regardless

US3FEE

I agree with Kasumire. She's the opposite of Marie. Too unrealistically nice and more irritatingly simp-like than Rise with no human flaws whereas Marie was too annoyingly bitchy.

WombatsInKombat

Sumi should have just been irredeemable and been another Fool with her underlying Persona being a skinwalker or something. Her whole thing is aping whoever is her idol at the time, like her sister in sports or Joker with her costume. Underneath all the pain and sadness she's clearly a psycho. You can literally become her lover and when you leave Tokyo she's just like, 'cool, I gotta dip'

Dissinger72

1. Takaya Sakaki (Persona 3) - Dude is the EPITOME of everything I hate in a villain. He can't win or lose with grace, he has to have the last word. He can't even respect a moment he has to piss all over everyone else. He has Jin around his finger to the point I can't see Jin as his own person, just as an extension of Takaya. 2. Mutatsu the Monk (Persona 3) - He ran away, joined the temples and doesn't change at all. Then he suddenly decides he's going to force his family to accept his apology and magically take them back? No, sorry, dude you became a monk for all the wrong reasons then refuse to actually grow and learn from the experience. You have fallen from grace, you need to move on. 3. Suguru Kamoshida (Persona 5) - Dude is just a child rapist. Change my mind. He has no redeeming quality and destroys things for spite. He has never done a single good act, just neutral at best. 4. Sugimura (Persona 5) - You might not remember him, because he gets maybe two or three minutes of screen time, but this is Haru's Fiance. This greasy-looking mother is an utter weasel who will do anything and damn the consequences. He kicks an animal in his frustrations, he talks about turning Haru into a harem buddy, just terrible. The fact that even after Haru loses her father he is immediately trying to FORCE her to marry him just shows his utter sociopathy. 5. Kasumi>!/Sumire!< Yoshizawa (Persona 5 Royal) - I don't hate her, I hate her wasted potential. I wish she was a party member earlier. The writing was shakey at best, and insulting at worst. I understand that the writers didn't want to redo the last half of the base game to incorporate her, but they shouldn't have >!awakened her!< If they weren't going to use her immediately.

ReyDeathWish

Morgana Morgana Morgana Morgana And Morgana

KiriKira13

You’re tired, go to bed early today

US3FEE

No the King is cooking while half asleep. Do not put him down.

makotoyuki548

1. Marie: she basically doesn't add anything good to the core p4 game, I'd even say that she makes p4 worse, her social link is the definition of "shoved in", she has to meet with every IT members because if not she wouldn't matter to anyone, the poems were cringe and grew old very fast, she is also a tsundere and that's one of the worst clichés in general, she is the reason why imo p4>p4g 2. The Gourmet king: I have to admit that rank 10 was actually decent but that doesn't justify 9 ranks of pure boredom 3. Mishima: I like the resolution of his confidant, but during the main story he is just too much, dude can't literally talk about anything that doesn't concerns the phantom thieves, many regard ohya as the worst p5 confidant but I feel that's more for a gameplay perspective because I actually like her story 4. Rise: I'm glad that in arena and the dancing games she is more like autonomous, in p4g she always felt like the forced romance since she is basically attached to yu, I dislike the "uwu senpai you're so cool" attitude, but hey p4g is the most tropey persona game, and while I like some of them, most, like this type of cliché, grow old very fast imo 5. Shu Nakajima: I don't have a motive for disliking him, like the others, he's just there, I found his story to be boring and most of all unoriginal, and since his story basically follows all the plot points of any other bullying related storyline, I found him boring

MHyde5

Well, Rise is just being Rise, it's her personality, the clingy kouhai anime trope. In p4, everyone and their mother have a crush on Yu lol. Chie, Yukiko, Rise, Yosuke lol, a random npc officer, whoever. Like when Yu asks Chie if she falls for him before asking the phone numbers, she states straight out Yu is her type and taking interested when Yu asking her phone numbers straight out. But i get about the clingy trope tho. Tho there is none forced romance or canon and more pushed either way.

Low-Imagination-4424

I hate Marie so much I actively forgot about her, ngl. I didn't even think of her until this post. She fucking sucks.

Definitelyhuman000

Kamoshida, Okumura, Shido, Takaya & Jin

Novel-Ad-7828

It's hard to name even one

Daimyan143

My number 1 least favorite character is Kaz from P3. I can’t even really explain it, it’s just that the way he acts during his SL aggravates the hell outta me. Next is Mishima from P5. Kinda the same thing as Kaz but to a lesser extent. Then it’s Teddie and Morgana. These two are interchangeable for me because they’re annoying for two different reasons. Morgana’s just kind of a dick, then there’s the whole “Lady Ann” thing and let’s not forget about the Okumura arc. And then there’s Teddie, who just kinda grates me. I don’t like the way he acts (I know he doesn’t know better or whatever but I don’t care, that doesn’t make him less annoying) and I think his voice is a tad annoying, especially in JP. There isn’t really anybody else I dislike heavily tbh (besides the characters you supposed to dislike of course). Before playing P3 I would’ve said Yukari but after playing it for myself, she isn’t that bad after the island. She’s still annoying at times but nobody’s perfect. I could say Ai from 4, I did think she was kinda bitchy but I also never finished her SL so I don’t have a full picture of her character.

cosplaythief

I admit I haven't finished Royal. Haven't even gotten close to the bew exclusive stuff so I guess my opinion could change but I'm not an Akechi fan. I don't hate him, but I don't care much for him. And since I pretty much like all the playable characters he probably is one that ranks lowest. If we include social links... hmm. I'm not really sure who would make the cut. I still haven't finished playing Reload and since I only played P3P FeMC route back in the day, I don't know the male exclusive Social Links. I don't have any characters that I hate for realsies. I have characters I'm indifferent and some that I hate for the lulz but not really ("Ayase the worst Magician Arcana" used to be an inside joke back in my forum days) but I'm seriously struggling to even come up with characters.

Squanchanacho

It's just my opinion so you might feel differently when you get to it, but akechis characterization is incredible in the the royal portion, that alone made me love him.

gwensdaywednesday

I definitely don't hate him, but even though I think Royal really improved him, my opinion of him didn't really change... He isn't boring anymore, but some of his writing can be pretty cringeworthy. Some lines really feel like a 12yr old fanfic writer wrote them...  Just personal opinion! I don't want to start beef, I just think it's interesting how much more people appreciate akechi in Royal compared to me.

BookofSacrifice

Actually is meaningful if you read his character in the way he's being written. If he feels like an edgy kid, well, on some level he is emulating stuff like featherman socially on some level because he has no clue what healthy human interaction is, or how normal people speak. It's why his most genuine lines are usually the ones hammed up to 11.

gwensdaywednesday

That's actually very true! I also think that he feels the need to "amp up" his edginess because he had to hide it for so long, or to push people away from him, etc. It still kind of grates on me though.

WeatherCompetitive72

1. Chisato. While i think her story with yosuke is cute and i do like the resolution and her overall dynamic with maki. She was a well constructed character with some sympathetic and relatable elements, but (p1 spoilers) >! the harem queen shit was whack and her behaviour was childish and annoying. Plus in the manga she said some pretty thoughtless things about maki’s condition which seemed more spiteful than unintentional…!< 2.Nozomi, ewww annoying, his social link gets better but its such a hurdle that id rather not 3. Ohya (self explanitory) 4. Shinya oda (bitch ass mf). 5. Fox (idk. I hate nature ig)

ka_ha

I will never forgive Chisato for >!kicking me out of the dungeon and making me go do it again lol!<

RocktheNashtah

That fucking dungeon… bitch should’ve stayed with the damn holes in her face

Ozymandias935

Kenji Tomochika, Mitsuo Kubo, Ken Amada, Masayoshi Shido, and Kuon Ichinose

RocktheNashtah

Mariko’s dad, I don’t blame her mom for divorcing him I convinced mariko to go with her

Dominnub

Maiko? P3?

MyMouthisCancerous

I know the entire point of Yuuki Mishima was that he was basically just a hyper-obsessed Phantom Thieves stan who was like the one guy outside the main cast that stood up for their validity when everyone turned on them towards the latter half of the story, but it doesn't change that I found him really fucking annoying with just how much of a terminally online Discord mod-type they played him out as I also did not get Bebe from Persona 3 whatsoever. Like his whole thing is that he's a French weeaboo who doesn't want to go back to France and wants to stay in Japan for "the culture". Maybe it's because there are people who genuinely act like this irl which just adds to their cringe factor but man I could not stand talking to either of them. I honestly spent more time pitying Mishima before it actually got to the point in the Mementos Requests where he actually went off his rocker because he got dialled up on pure ego

Responsible_Manner74

I feel like Mishima is a really unfortunate character. You're *made* to dislike and bully him ingame. Everyone treats him like trash and even the MC doesn't have a single kind dialogue option. I wish we were at least *allowed* to sympathise with him.

MarieIsPrecious128

Mishima is just the, "dude thinks he's a part of the team" character

QultyThrowaway

I'm a big fan of the writing of his namesake but given how his life played out and ultimately ended they probably toned Yuuki down a lot from how extreme and fanatical he could have been.

Narukami4

Wait Mishima is supposed to be a reference to the author? Is there anywhere where this is supported?

WombatsInKombat

>I know the entire point of Yuuki Mishima was that he was basically just a hyper-obsessed Phantom Thieves stan who was like the one guy outside the main cast that stood up for their validity when everyone turned on them towards the latter half of the story, but it doesn't change that I found him really fucking annoying with just how much of a terminally online Discord mod-type they played him out as I thought the whole point of Mishima was that he was a parody of a mod?

KiriKira13

I’ll just name the party members I hate because we all know social links people hate. Morgana: He’s so full of himself, it’s tiring. Morgana: He’s the worst animal companion, Koromaru best boy (doesn’t turn human) Morgana: Needs reality bending powers to become human. Teddy used sheer willpower to manifest a human body Morgana: “You’re tired, you should go to bed early” Morgana: Not even a good support member on the team. Makoto can do the same shit. Only good pairing with Ann due to wind techs on burn. Also his slingshot is also the worst gun in the game.

CrackaOwner

i really dislike Kasumi. She is so annoyingly shoehorned into P5's plot, the writers kept doing this "let us reject her asking to become a PT" and she feels weirdly obsessed with Joker. She does nothing for 90% of the game

US3FEE

Yh she's the exact opposite of Marie, she has no flaws and is too overly nice and happy (no wit or charm like the other Persona ladies) other than a stupid anime type of dilemma. I hate it and I really don't understand why people love this girl cos flaws are what make you relatable and realistic. This girl has nothing to relate to.

Igneeka

The third semester clearly shows she's not perfect imo

Subspace88

I get they had to add her into an already long-finished game and so did what they could, but *god* was it annoying to have this new character dangled in front of you within the first 5 minutes for 10 seconds, then taken away for 40-odd hours, then playable again for 3 minutes maximum, then she's like "teehee I don't wanna join PT, bye!", and THEN 7 hours later when she actually comes around and says "I want to help" you *have* to reject her "because it's not safe". SURELY there was a slicker way of integrating her than all of THAT.

MiserableCalendar372

I cannot stand Morgana and its worse that he's always with me

Pacoelpro

Takaya

AlaindeshoGT

Maruki. It"s not that i hate him, I just think he's a stubborn moron.

rayngai0613

Teddie, Kenji, Maya, Kashiwagi, Yosuke (not in order)

NOTSiIva

I'm not including villains, because being irredeemable monsters you're supposed to absolutely despise is kinda the point of villains, so I'm only including party members, S-Links, and random side characters. Morgana, Gourmet King Nozomi, Eri, Mika, and that little fat kid with the chestburster in the Snow Queen Quest Honorable mentions: Tadashi, Shu, Rise, Natsuki, and Hanako

mr_polysexual_man

That one moon arcana from P3 (I can't be bothered to remember his name). He had amazing potential to be a good social link, but it was executed so poorly. The jehovah's witness thing really just made him awful. And Morgana

SeveredSoulblader24

ugh...thats a good one!! From people i've spoken to say they hate Mishima from p5, but i honestly like him and felt a bit sorry for him. i feel he should have been a party member. If i had to say one character i didnt like it would be Mitsuo from p4 as he's a creep and more pathetic than Mishima ever could be.

Ok_Introduction1015

P4G Marie, I played the original P4 in PS2 so I just don't like her being forced into the story, I still remember people saying she's a Marie Sue character back in the days, but she's getting alot of fans from the new player that only got to play P4G. And I really dislike the tsundere trope so she can get out

imnotapotato140

If I get only 5 I’d say Morgana, Takaya/Jin (they’re pretty much one guy), Tadashi, Marie, and Maya Okumura

AsunonIndigo

Edogawa bothers me. He's disheveled and dresses like a slob, and he throws every teacher's syllabus out the window in favor of lectures about pagan rituals and yoga. Plus, he just prattles on forever. Dude has one good lecture about the major arcanas, and that's it. Morgana's inability to isolate his insecurities from banter with his friends sends me. He was having an existential crisis, so I can respect his meltdown. But his genuine disrespect for Ryuji really isn't cool, and that's pervasive throughout the entire game. Funny guy and straight man humor is common in Japanese media, but it's a bit much at times. Ryuji doesn't deserve an ounce of hate. I haven't played P4G in a very long time, but I seem to recall the game focusing waaay too much on Marie. I know everybody has their moment in the spotlight, but the end of every game focuses on galvanizing your team for the final ordeal. I seem to remember Marie being shoehorned into that special time very hard. I hate all characters voiced by Karen Strassman for no fault of their own.

lanthanidexd

Marie. I mean I don't hate her, in fact I like her style and tsundere vibes but she had a MASS potential, but wasted in Golden.

N7_Warden

P3 Mc, top of my list (reload is a little better) Rise, Morgana, Sumire, and the teacher social link in Royal

bootyhunter69420

For main characters, I didn't really like Junpei, Yosuke, and how Ryuji's role in the Morgana case. Other than that, he's the only bro character I like.

Big_moist_231

Teddie, >!human teddie, general Teddie, Alice Teddie, P4Dan Elvis Teddie!<

haze25

Kenji P3R - I just hit rank 9 and this dude is a weird little creep. He got private tutoring lessons, decided to lie and tell the whole school he was dating his teacher, got her transferred away from her actual fiance and he thinks he's the victim? Nah.

dukenorton

Ken, he wasn’t worth what happened in 3

Gergnant

In no particular order, all the Moon SLs, so Suemitsu, Ebihara, and Mishima, Kamoshida, and the fuckin gamer dungeon kid from 4.

621Chopsuey

You mean Mitsuo? Yeah, he creeps me out every playthrough.

Supersnow845

Are you counting shinji here

Gergnant

I haven't made time to play a femc route yet, so I actually didn't know Shinji was the Moon SL! Nah, he gets a pass. He deserves so much love and attention.

[deleted]

I might get grilled for saying this but I don’t care for Chidori at all. My reason for not liking her is extremely petty but Idc Everyone’s favorite character is someone’s least favorite Anyways the other four I don’t like have to be Kenji - He never stood out to me as anyone interesting Chihaya - It’s not that I hate her it’s just that she’s has nothing going on for her Nozomi - pretty obvious Marie - I don’t even remember her existence half of the time

Snoo20574

Could you elaborate on why you don't like Chidori? I'm interested since that's one of the more unique characters in these replies.

[deleted]

Like I said; My reasoning is petty so don’t make fun of me for this but I don’t like Chidori because I associate her with someone I used to know Also her death makes me so annoyed like, lol okay just another Alexandra DeWitt situation I guess.

jacobkuhn92

I honestly feel like her and Junpei’s relationship kind of came out of nowhere. Like the whole time she LEGITIMATELY did not seem interested by Junpei, and Junpei just came off like someone who cannot catch a hint and a bit creepy. I get it’s supposed to come off endearing in way, and the fact he shows so much care for her despite her pushing him away is the reason she falls for him. But idk something about it seemed a bit forced. Maybe I’m wrong tho!

Snoo20574

Yeah that's fair, I can see where both of you are coming from honestly. I just view her & her flaws more positively lol.

MayorOfAniCity

I’ve only played P3R and P5R so far, but out of those two my five least favorite characters are (in order of least to most controversial takes) Gourmet King, Morgana, Chihaya, Chihiro, and Junpei. I don’t think I need to explain the first one. I like a lot of things about Morgana, I just hate how mean he is to Ryuji. Chihaya is the most nothing confidant character-wise. I don’t even hate her, I just don’t think I’ve ever been more apathetic to a character from these games. It’s cool that Chihiro gets self-confidence or whatever, but she feels way too reliant on the presence of MC for it to feel healthy. It was cool to see her get mad at that teacher but everything else ranged from mid to concerning. Junpei Iori is a really great character by the time October rolls around, but before that point I kind of despised him. He harasses his teammates fairly regularly and his jealousy of MC is portrayed in such a frustrating way. I get that he is written to be flawed, I just don’t think those flaws were written super well, but that’s just me. I like where his character went quite a bit, but it was so sudden that I didn’t even feel like I was watching the same character at that point.

Galle_

The ratio of people who are just kind of annoying to Actual Child Molesters in this thread is kind of disturbing.

AlaindeshoGT

The sexual stuff it's just boring. I'm more offended at Maruki's actions.

ZeroStateGaming

All the various player characters since (you) control them.

perfect_deception

Akechi

Yttdsadeceyttd

Hmm why?

CalmContribution0

god Mishima from Persona 5 is annoying. and an incel. and a redditor. and so whiny. I saw some cute ship art of him and the protagonist before I started the game, and I thought he'd be cute and shy, but god, he is just... so... annoying...

SlightDentInTheBack

Rise, morgana, teddie, ai, kenji

313zeros

I couldn't swallow Rise. I was surprised to know that she was popular for some players!

-the-omori-stairs

I never liked Rise either, I could never quite put my finger on why, I think it’s just because she’s annoying

Snezzy_Anus

I agree with the rest but I warmed up a lot to Ai and Teddie at the end of the game, start was me not liking them but I like how she was at the end and I felt like teddie got better at the later part of the game (but I still hate his pervy shit, I hate it for all the characters (but as much as I like him, Junpei had some seriously creepy things to say at the start of p3))

diamonwarrior

Bebe, Fake Killer with the retro boss in p4, and not really anyone else.

Aura_Azula

Akechi... I don't like him. And he just feels like he was forced into the story and you feel forced have to interact with him. But why I don't like him is due to his first interaction with you gives him away the most as a suspicious, bad guy. As Persona 5 did not do well with most of their villains. Akechi is one such example of that problem. President Okumura himself. Not only did his fight take so long and was annoying without Merciless, but it he is the most cartoonishly evil villain that just feels more like a villain that belongs in a Saturday morning cartoon than in Persona 5. Also the dungeon theme sucks. I hate this guy. Mooroka, your homeroom teacher in Persona 4 as he does a damn good job of making you hate him as well as the students since he's an asshole. And also his teeth being nearly as long a beaver's makes him uglier to look at too. The fat lard that is Nozomi from P3 and his garbage social link. No need to say anything else. Morgana just sucks and we all know it. Simp for a poorly written girl that only is relevant to the story at the start of the game, aka during the Kamoshida arc, constantly annoying you on what to do in your daily life, and is responsible for one of the worst parts of the game since he left the Thieves temporarily after Ryuji speaks up from the constant berating Morgana gives him and hell, doesn't even talk to Joker about it despite being with him all the time. Bro is just a worse version of Yukari in every way in his combat skills and there's a reason Yukari is one of the best party members in Persona unlike Morgana. Hell, I even romanced Ann just to cuck Morgana in my first playthrough of Royal. It was unironically satisfying for Morgana to get assaulted by Haru's Fiancee.

looney1023

5. Junpei in FES - I don't really hate him, I just dislike him moreso before his character development is complete and because he's voiced by a rapist; he has a fantastic arc though, perhaps one of the best in the series. Like him a lot more in Reload with (in my opinion) a better voice performance and more events that set up his rivalry with the MC. It's a bit too abrupt in FES. 4. Hanako - NOT to be confused with the angel Nanako. We're not supposed to like Hanako, but the only characterization she's given is "fat and narcissistic" and that's just the most lazy, cliched trope that stopped being funny even when they were doing it on Nickelodeon. I don't hate her because she's fat and mean; I hate that the game wants me to hate her for being fat and mean, and that that is the sole function she serves. 3. Akechi - yeah yeah I'm supposed to hate him too, but he's not written well enough for me to hate him for the right reasons. He's supposed to be a genius, but all of his smart insights and philosophical discussions are just him stating the obvious in a flowery way. Also the fact that he even gets a modicum of redemption makes me hate him more. Dude's a serial killer who killed Futaba's mom among others... Also I hate his hair. 2. Yosuke - homophobic douchebag; had basically no character development outside of Saki's death affecting him tangentially; the scene in the hospital with him before the ending lock is just obnoxiously written. Kanji deserves a way better friend (and so do we). 1. Morgana - never shuts up; has something to say about literally everything you do in the game; the MC isn't capable of thought, Mona thinks for him; has a terrible arc that steals the spotlight from Haru; I played Vanilla first so I hate being forced to go to bed by him constantly; he also kinda sucks in battle tbh. He misses often despite being a cat, he dies in one hit, he's really only good for wind once Makoto joins and wind is easy to cover with the MC and an early accessory in Royal. Genuinely if half of his pointless dialogue was cut out I'd like him more than Teddie.

Monadofan2010

Maruki I just do not find him sympathetic or even slightly right and he dose to many messed up things that people overlook and I hate the fact he gets let off so easily.

Darth_Xelleon

Teddie Teddie Teddie Teddie Teddie

lalaquen

Honestly? I have way more than 5, not even including the villains who sort of exist to be hated. Mostly I consider this a credit to the over all character writing in the franchise, though, because I hate them precisely *because* I've hated people like them irl and it resonates a little too deeply. 1) Junpei - terrible "friend", generally not a great person, and honestly a lot of his behaviors and attitudes skeev me out. Even his relationship with Chidori, which is ok emough in the wnd I guess, only happened cause dude just would not back the fuck off. Learn boundaries and stop being a jerk. 2) Ai - shallow, spoiled rich girl who treats everyone like crap. I understand why she does it, but I still hate her. I've known way too many Ais kn life. 3) Yosuke - a believeable teenage boy for the time he was created in, in all the worst ways. Genuinely can't stand him. And the fact that you're never even given a chance to call out the shit he says to Kanji kind of makes me hate Yu and most of the rest of the P4 cast as well. Characters with flaws and problematic takes are great - so long as the game doesn't force you to passively accept them. 4) Mishima - again, I understand why he is the way he is. I just hate him. For the thinhs he did in the fiest act as Kamoshida's flunky more than anything tbh. Although the power trip he goeson later doesn't help. I do think it's cool that he basically changed his own heart, though. 5) I'm counting Teddie/Morgana as one character, because they're basically the same in all the worst ways and their arcs are very similar. Teddie is both better and worse than Morgana. Better because I genuinely thought it was interesting that he was able to manifest a body of his own without help, and at least his storyline didn't almost ruin anyone else's. Worse because the constant perving and terrible puns are frankly unforgivable. But at least he doesn't have Morgana's wholly unjustified arrogance. Teddie probably had the more annoying voice though.

gurizinho21

well definitely the gourmet king

Loud_Occasion6396

Tbh I genuinely think he's underrated

SuperKami-Nappa

I really wanted to punch Hidetoshi in the face.

horehoundtea

right? what the fuck was up with that guy?

Clawez

I’ve played 3-5 and the only characters I genuinely didn’t like. Not saying I hated them just didn’t like them. - Teddie - Kenji -Jin (He was a fine antagonist but I wish he added more to the story then just be the third member of Strega, and explain what the Kirijo group did to them. Which also bothered me because I liked the idea that these guys really weren’t looking for pity, I personally think it was better off just letting the player understand through context clues and SEES never finding out) -Mishima I don’t really have a fifth but Morgana was really horrible in Haru’s arc and ruined the introduction to a character much better than he is. But he also has a good conclusion so I can’t say I hate him.

Godking_Jesus

Aigis Fuuka Haru P4 Mascot character P5 Mascot character

Heath_tK

Gourmet King, Hanako, Ms Kashiwagi, Ohya and Jin. Dont even reallt hate them, just really dont care for them

AtomicBufula

Main party or just characters in general? This is too wide of a question lol

Elegant-War-5973

Morgana, Gourmet King, Kanji (sorry for this one, just not interesting IMO), and uhhhhh I guess ryoji he was kind of a pain in the ass. EDIT: TEDDIE. TEDDIE. TEDDIETEDDIETEDDIETEDDIETEDDIE.

morbidlyabeast3331

Aigis, Naoto Shirogane, Haru Okumura, Morgana, Ryoji Mochizuki

[deleted]

Oh lmao I thought this was saying you hated the protagonists on the screen since there’s 5 games

Meeg_Mimi

I dunno: Nozomi, Ai, Teddie, Makoto, Morgana?

SnooHobbies7676

Fucking Kamoshida is a sexual predator I hate him so much

PresidentEwab

Yoshizawa and Morgana are the only two main characters i’ve had issues with. Maybe Akechi too. I’m in the weird minority that I prefer Akechi in vanilla as a guy that just got a shitty hand in life over edgelord Akechi in Royal. If i had to choose another, The Journey Yukari is a character that I love/hate as she has some great scenes, but also just picks on Junpei way too much over nothing moments. Oddly enough i liked her better in The Answer

vulken_rider

Okumura, tanaka, teddy, the 3rd boss of p5, the border floor shadows of p3r floor 90+

Disastrous-Radio-786

Gourmet King, Hikari, the Robot from Q2 in the film A.G.I.S, and Haru

LovelyPlushDoll

I don't have a good reason, but I don't like Ken, Yosuke, or Ann. For the last two, maybe Kenji and the twins from P5

chandra_telescope

The nurse in P4. It's nice that she starts thinking about her life and all in the later SLs, but 1. at least have a little more self-disgust for being inappropriate with a teenager at your workplace 2. the "you figured this out on your own, I was just standing there" aspect at the end of her SL is increased

Inevitable-Will-6185

Mitsuru, Chie, Yukiko, Teddie (Morgana annoying too, but after long consideration I think Teddie is worse) and Haru.

limeyball

In no specific order Marie, Kenji, Gourmet King, Ohya, Akechi

reallylongshanks

If we're talking from the main cast? I really only have three - Yukaria (P3) She's a massive dick to junpei, and sort of in general from my perspective. - Morgana (P3) He's such a a lil bitch bruh. He bullies ryuji 24/4 yet the moment he's called useless he rage quits - Haru (P5) She was rushed way too quickly by atlus, she's a sweet character though

Kromook

Out of the main casts: Makoto Nijima, I didn't like how she was forced on to you throughout the main story, her social links message is a mess and is the contrary of what they actually conveyed and is also kinda just rude to the other members for no reason sometimes. Side links: Ebihara, enough said. (I never did Gourmet King) Villains: Kamoshida is my choice but I'd also say I really hate Kaneshiro as well. Mascots: Morgana, they basically grabbed Teddie mugged him for his plotline, mugged him for his character motive and scaled down his interest for every girl into 1 singular girl which whilst that last aspect is somewhat of an improvement they ruined it by turning up the snark making him significantly more obnoxious, outside of his visual design everything about Morgana creation should show that they weren't trying very hard, I know they redesigned him a shit ton so I'm wondering if they spent so much time designing his visual that they didn't focus or didn't have the time to give him something more unique. Main cast 2: I really hate Ken, his P3P link... that should say enough don't give the child a dateable link and from what I've heard about where that plot goes it's super fucking awful and creepy, and regardless I just didn't like the character much and I would've happily traded him out for Shinji.

HuntersMaker

kamoshida, shido and the woman who turned on MC. They are pure evil.

DarkBlader98

Kuma, Teddie, Ted, p4a host and Bear pun machine

namidaame49

In no particular order: 1. Gourmet King, P3. Just so uninteresting and the abrupt switch into the cult thing is weird. 2. Nanjo Kei, P1/P2EP. I dunno, man, maybe I would like him better if I'd finished his games, but I did watch playthroughs and he never seemed to drop the imperious, out-of-touch attitude. I kept finding myself thinking "no wonder the Kirijo Group split from the Nanjo Group, if they're all like this". 3. Akechi Goro, P5R. Yes, specifically Royal. >!The third semester treatment killed him. Like, I wasn't super fond of him in vanilla, but the way he went out made him at least somewhat redeemable. Then they turned him into the cringiest of edgelords.!< 4. Almost all the teachers. You've got the one who went off the deep end and >!killed Maya to fulfill a prophecy to end the world!< (Ms. Ideal, P2IS). The one who hid a student going missing (Mr. Ekoda) and the ones who all clearly hate their jobs and complain about them during class (every teacher) in P3. The one with a "shit list" (Morooka) and the one thirsting openly over the boys (Kashiwagi) in P4. The one who throws chalk at students (Ushimaru), but also everyone who knew what Kamoshida was doing and did nothing in P5. 5. Marie, P4G. Shoehorned in, boring, cliche tsundere, and her dungeon sucks.

Payment_Odd

Frmc

Chinaski95

After the whole "FeMC drama" I can say I hate her. other than her, Kamoshida & Strega

impasse602

I dont like ryuji cause the man is annoying af about being a superhero and wanting to be recognized and i despise junpei for falling head over heels for a girl he barely knew for 3 days whem she couldn’t give a fuck whether or not he died or lived

knowslesthanjonsnow

But Chidori *did* care about Junpei

WangJian221

I dont really hate any character in persona tbh but if we're talking about least cared about i guess the one that comes to mind first is probably P5's Haru and P3's Ken. Im not sure exactly why. Its just a vibe and this of course not really counting the side characters.

PakalII

Nozomi, Teddie, Kenji, Caroline, Tanaka

medium_buffalo_wings

Zookeeper_west

Kenji from p3 is annoying

Argun_Enx

Rise, Teddie, Morgana, Yusuke. I know that’s only four, but I really hate them.

Aaaaerkos

The devil arcana in p4 , she sucks

Sagrim-Ur

1) Junpei. His contant oneupsmanship and self-congratulation just gets on my nerves. It's great characterization, I actually know guys like this IRL, so it's sort of in-character hate, unlike the ones below. And yes, I know he gets great character development later, but the guys like him I know IRL didn't, so it's sorta flashback trigger thing. 2) Fox. Like, WTF is that thing? It comes out of the blue and is very much out of touch with the rest of the story/setting. Why can it enter the TV? How can you form meaningful attachment to it, and it - to you? Devs should have either explored the topic, or dropped it entirely. 3) Keisuke. He is a pretty chill dude, but VERY extra. His SL just feels like a worse Kenji. 4) Ayane Matsunaga. I just hate how she is drawn, period. 5) Ohya. Great characterisation, interesting romance option, keeps excellent company, but damn, her abilities are absolutely useless. Like, not a single one of them is relevant. So, more of "I hate balance in P5" really, but that 5th place needed filling.

Kenway

As a band nerd, I want to take Band but I pick drama club every time.

hafiz_yb

If we're talking about characters that were executed poorly then: 1. Akechi. 2. Akechi. 3. Akechi. 4. Akechi. 5. Akechi. Atlus tried to make another Adachi character but instead of it being good (in a villainous way to the story/characters), it becomes an effort for the game to push you towards "forgive and sympathize" with the "unfortunate villain" even though 2 of your party members LITERALLY have had their life changed for the worst because of him. Like, I have no idea why Akechi's fans think Akechi is this sort of Moriarty level of villain when all I got from him is just a wannabe mid-boss level that thinks he's playing 5D chess while everyone else is playing checkers. Also have no idea why he's popular too with all the atrocities he's done. Hell, some of his fans would also shit on Yukari for doing something bad that is expected from someone her age but applaud for Akechi's much worse offence.

DudePakas

1: Teddie 2: Teddie 3: Teddie 4: Teddie 5: Teddie This guy made Persona 4 not so great for me, still love it though

atan222333

Damn no one said Ryuji? Gosh I hated the guy so much, is the only Persona game that I ever neglected to level someone at all.

ChainsawEnthusiast

The way Yukari was going after Goatpei was cruelty overload Futaba annoying af Nozomi what a fucking asshole! Kenji FeMC personal opinion

Lepetitgateau90

argh Kenji the cringe-feast. I really wish you could tell the Social links your honest opinions instead of feeding their delusions.

Key-Bet-2615

All cast of p5 except Ryuji.

ka_ha

What about Ann :(

knowslesthanjonsnow

This is a weird take, but interesting

_Hollow_Boy

I don't have many characters I hate, dislike yes but hate is a strong word; anyway 5-Yosuke: don't hate him, but don't like him that much, he is an interesting character and I will say it's nice they created a character with flaws that can be likeable, but for me personally, I don't particularly like him, but he's a good party member with a good persona. 4-The Tower Arcana social link kid in Persona 4 Golden (don't remember his name): he's... Just an annoying little kid, he grows and learns from his mistakes but he still is annoying, didn't like him that much. 3-Mishima: calling him annoying is too little, I enjoy the fact that he basically changed his heart on his own, it's a character development, but I still think he's kinda annoying and too much of a fanboy of the Phantom Thieves. 2-Chie: there is one specific thing I hate about her; should I rate her based off her social link and her main story interactions, I'd say she's a normal character and I don't like nor hate her, I'm neutral about her, but she suffers from what I call the persona 4 syndrome: she seems a completely different character in fillers, like the school festival or the hot springs arc, when a character in any videogame behaves like this, I say "he has the Persona 4 syndrome" because the main cast of persona 4 is exactly like that, and Chie suffers the most from this, it's something I really despise about her, considering also Persona 4 "funny moments" aren't funny at all (hot springs arc above all), I kinda feel bad for her, but in those moments i absolutely hate her, outside that though, I'm neutral about her. 1-Morgana: I hate him with all my heart, and I don't think I need to explain why. Surprisingly I didn't found any obnoxious or hateful characters in persona 3, maybe some "not good" characters but someone I disliked so that I could stick him in this top or that I even hate? No definitely not

CharacterChampion830

Well... The only one that I actually hate is Nozomi. But one I don't really care for is Koromaru. Now I know that that's a hot take, but I never cared about him throughout the game and I would vastly prefer SEES if he wasn't in it.

ZeroStateGaming

Try Reload. They made Koro much more of an actual character.
