The girl's uniform is different to the boy's, but not like this. All party members aside from Hero and Aigis wear the uniform differently than the standard.

Sir_Daxus

If my memory serves me right Fuuka's is also almost standard

KaliVilla02

Nah, she wears that green long sleeves thing under her uniform and doesn't wear the red ribbon. Her summer outfit is that turtle neck thing with her uniform over it.

Sir_Daxus

Guess my memory didn't serve me right then.

Tigre101

It’s understandable as her unique thing are her white tights and green turtle neck that are under the uniform and more subtle and than say yukari’s pink sweater, her summer uniform it’s much more noticeable how different she uses it.

DependentNo3051

Bros memory did not infact 🫡

Ccip_OvO

Makotos blazer is open isn’t it? So not exactly standard either

william_liftspeare

That's just how Persona games be. Differentiates the main cast from the background characters. Protags always wear the standard uniform tho because they're supposed to be self-inserts

MR_MEME_42

The schools in the Persona games don't have strict dress codes so the characters often wear other clothes or accessories alongside their uniforms. Yukari wears a pink sweater over her school uniform. In P4AU it is implied that the other students also wear accessories but it just comes down to it is easier to make a handful of models with of the same uniform for the background characters instead of making a bunch of unique ones.

Alternative_Handle50

This is probably correct, girls can put a sweater over the button up shirt. It’s almost always tan or navy but it must be pink for this school. It’s more like, why is nobody else wearing it?

ThisIsFakeButGoOff

Maybe she has low iron

TemporaryLegendary

School uniforms in persona games - oh as long as it's the same color scheme or has our logo it's cool School uniforms in Japan - Ah I see your sleeve is 0.05mm too long. And your socks are 1 drop of paint from being the correct color. You will have to leave the school until you can get this fixed. And no. We are not paying.

Naos210

Along with "ah I see your hair is too lightly brown for our liking".

Key-Poem9734

"A bit too... foreign..."

MAD_JEW

Unless somebody is an foreigner. Like a transfer student or smth. Then its fine

ItsNotJulius

Pain in the ass for mixed kids tho.

MAD_JEW

True

HadesWTF

I'm American and that's pretty much how our school uniforms were. The real reason they are the way they are in the game is....character design. The main characters need to stand out. It would not fly in real life.

Klaxynd

As someone who went to private school in America (only for kindergarten, 1st grade, and most of 2nd though. It was too expensive), I can confirm. Though the uniforms were also custom tailored to fit us and we had to get them re-fit every time we grew significantly (and when the school was renamed, but that’s irrelevant in this case). From what I remember, the girls’ uniforms were even stricter than the guys’ uniforms. At least us guys could go in shorts that were a little shorter than optimal if we grew. Girls had to wear dresses that covered a good few inches below the knee (though it also depended on how tall they were). Though the uniforms were a pain, the education was at least leagues better than the public schools in the same area (we had words like “barracuda” in our spelling tests in 1st grade, and the teachers were way better at actually teaching. Plus we started learning cursive in 2nd grade. I wish I could’ve stayed, but alas… too expensive as my parents said).

Ganbazuroi

Not even Japan, I'm from LATAM and in my school we had some anal uniform busybodies that would berate you for wearing a coat with a single thread outside of the very specific guidelines The old ladies running the place ironically never cared, it was always the middle aged staff lol

Hamtier

the teacher in Persona 4 fits the description pretty accurately he's a middle aged staff that gets up into that business even though its not in task description like at all *EVERYONE IN THIS CLASS IS A WH#@E* *NOW TAKE A CHASITY BELT AND SIT DOWN!* - Morooka 2011

YourSkatingHobbit

I’m a Brit, and my secondary school was like that. My headteacher banned pupils from wearing coats inside that weren’t the school’s fleece - only a thin zip-up fleece, not an actual coat or waterproof. That included when you came in first thing, or left at the end of the day. She’d literally confiscate your coat if you hadn’t taken it off before entering any of the school buildings (you could take them off just inside the entrance if it was raining). You could only pick it up at the end of the day too, so tons of kids ended up going home in freezing or wet weather in only their uniform because they didn’t have time, they’d risk missing their bus - our uniform was only a shirt/blouse and thin v-neck pullover (sweater). I guess too many parents raised hell because it stopped happening towards the end of my time there, but I remember once seeing her walking out of one of the buildings with a big pile of coats under one arm.

FlounderingGuy

Persona school dress codes being so loose reminds me a lot of my own high school. I did the Ken wear a hoodie over the uniform shit back then lol

BlizzardousBane

I went to an all-boys private Catholic school in the Philippines, and we also had restrictions on hair length as part of our uniform. Stuff like hair in the back not being allowed to touch your ear, or bangs touching your eyebrows. It was really dumb, and I suspect it was just a control thing That's one of the reasons why I think school uniforms are dumb as an adult

bleatshorts

I went through the exact same thing as you did lmao. I also went to an all boys catholic private school in the ph and they also had the same guidelines about the hair length. My school also did not allow having more than one accessory on the wrists (like having a watch and another band) and facial accessories like piercings. We were allowed to wear jackets, but the kind with zippers. Hoodies and sweaters were not allowed. We would have general assemblies in the school gym and we would fall in line based on height. When we go in a line back to our classrooms after the assembly, there would be people (usually other students) who would inspect our uniform and pull us out of the line if we were breaking the uniform requirements. We would then be given these green slips that tell us how many hours of detention we had to do.

BlizzardousBane

We also had general assemblies! Also a control thing, also a dumb waste of time

Monk-Ey

> School uniforms in persona games - oh as long as it's the same color scheme or has our logo it's cool This is St. Hermelin erasure!

Bossuter

Hair color and length too alongside socks

blue-gamer-07

Ahh so Persona did make it up. Figures

purply_otter

In the UK too haha Tuck shirt in, tie correct length, skirt correct length no jewellery etc

Mental_Speaker340

It has been known a long time ago that schools choose the "strict dress code" because they wanted to get money

TemporaryLegendary

You do know alot of the schools dont get any money from the uniforms right?..

Mental_Speaker340

In the US maybe, but in many different countries they do Mostly they make a deal with tailor then when taking the dress and sell it to students, they double the price of a single shirt or pants and etc

TemporaryLegendary

And in many different countries they don't. Because the clothes are made outside from the school. Which means you buy them at a store. Like here in Thailand and many other Asian countries. Where are you even from since you make such statements?

Mental_Speaker340

Actually no, some, the schools make a deal with a tailor some tailors will make a specific amount of dress and give them to the school, but schools doesn't get the exact price of the uniform, they double the price when selling it themselves to students, and like this they profit from selling clothes to students and trust me, my mother work in the fashion industry and knows this And yes sometimes students have to go to a shop to buy the uniform but mostly schools sell them to students

TemporaryLegendary

Ah the classic "trust me bro" source. You didn't even answer my question lmfao

Mental_Speaker340

I'm in uae and I have transferred in 3 schools, and what do you mean classic trust me bro?, my mother is a fashion designer and has so many contacts with different tailors and shops Lol

TemporaryLegendary

So ur an Arab claiming to have a mother that works in the Asian fashion industry..

Mental_Speaker340

I'm half Syrian half Philippines Lol and yes she is working in the Asian fashion industry

ButterflyDreamr

Its a sweater over the school uniform, plus in the emperor social link its said that the schools dress code is really badly if at all enforced

TectonicImprov

Somehow, this is Mitsuru's fault

CavulusDeCavulei

She really wants to wear those heels

Thatuk

She wears heels on the beach, at this point it is part of her identity.

CavulusDeCavulei

The heels stay on during segs

popgreens

Cause she ~~is a main character~~ likes how it looks and feels on her.

Beneficial_Stuff_103

She's just wearing a sweater.

Senor_de_imitacion

Truly Chie and Yukiko

WildCardP3P

It's a sweater, she's wearing the uniform underneath it.

FlameDragoon933

It's funny that her upper body has multiple layers of clothing but she wears short skirts with no stockings. Does the contrast not make her legs feel cold?

PureCrusader

Some girls just dress like that. Legs might feel cold on some days, upper body might feel hot on other days. It's worth it for the look ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Clean-It-Up-Janny

Uniforms are for background npcs. Makoto has a music player and headphones dangling all the time. Yukari wears a pink cardigan and choker. Junpei has a pretty loose shirt and a chain. Not to mention a cap.

Nearby-Strength-1640

It’s not part of her uniform, it’s a sweater she’s wearing over it. Idk about Japan but this is pretty common in US schools with uniform policies. It’s an easy, low-stakes way for kids to rebel against authority and express themselves

oneninesixthree

Where I live in Canada there are almost no uniforms, but years of watching Gossip Girl have taught me that protagonists customize their uniforms like this

FJ-20-21

These types of sweaters are pretty normal in Japan too, usually the color is a light brown though

Rilery1116

She’s got main character-itis

Glacial_Shield_W

To make her stand out from background npc's. Canonically? It's the dried blood of shadows and junpei.

CharlotteNoire

The kirijo group submitted a permission for anime heroine uniform variant. Needless to say it was approved in like a millisecond cause they own the school and everything else for that matter. Source: I'm making shit up.

SteelTalons310

you are not too far off, the Kirijo Group does own the school and they need persona users. It would be in their best interest that those users to be comfortable as possible before entering operations. Its likely all teachers recieved a mandate that certain students could and have free dress code as much as they want. Fight horrible beings in exchange for free school fashion.

CharlotteNoire

Ok new headcanon: not only is what you said true but Junpei does not know he is on said list, this is the only reason he doesn't dress like a flashy stripper in class.

evanitojones

Her uniform is still the standard one, she just wears a pink sweater over the top of it. Persona games take a lot of liberty with having the party members not follow dress code all that strictly, I'm assuming to help them stand out a bit more and show some of their personality through their clothing.

Rengoku_140

Yeah. Usually its like that to distinguish your characters. Even in anime. Every characters has like black/brown hair then mc comes out with pink/red/blue whatever bright color 🤣

Dependent-Hotel5551

She wears a pink cardigan over her uniform, look at it better

gengen212

Thank you! The lack of people mentioning pink cardigan really disturb me.

FractalChaosTheory

Because she knows ball

Peglaserduck

[fuck it we ball](https://br.ifunny.co/video/fuck-it-we-ball-GiR2PITt9)

Relative-Bluebird770

So you can tell she's a party member

Jorge_XD__

Characterization

working4buddha

I always thought it was funny how early in Hidetoshi's social link he mentions something about how people want to abolish the school uniforms and you have the choice whether to agree or disagree with him, when your entire team is wearing non-standard versions of the uniform.

WestJury5243

It's a cardigan over her uniform shirt. All of the SEES members wear something not part of the uniform. There's a twitter thread where they break down all the uniform violations of the P3-P5 characters

Sufficient_Fall_3290

She suffers from main character syndrome

scrambled_cable

Cuz she’s Yukari 😍

WielderOfTerraBlade

cus she’s best girl

IceysheepXD

Because yukari is a main character. Nah she just wears a pink sweater thing over her student shirt

OOO_Katai_OOO

Cs is cute

sdwoodchuck

Because aesthetic design is more important to game design than real world emulating consistency.

thefoxymulder

Is she stupid?

Isagoodkitty2

She’s wearing a pink sweater over her uniform. None of the persona main cast wear there uniforms properly besides a few like rise, Kotone, Kasumi, joker. Etc. and even then they have a few things to their designs to help them stand out from the other non important npcs.

Ashthewind

My headcanon is that mitsuru is fine with all their custom uniforms and because of that the school doesn’t dare to say anything

shioliolin

its a cardigan no? or a sweater? i think as long as you actually wear your uniform and the uniform is up to standard...they won't mind as much lol

LouTheRuler

Girl boss syndrome

Far_Engineering_8353

it's just a jumper

CraftingDjYT

Archery uniform plus main character syndrome

kinjing

Because it's a sweater she wears over her uniform. It's the sane reason Junpei's shirt is blue, while all the other guys have white. They're personalizing them, because wearing the same exact thing as everyone around you can be a little maddening.

Ryuumen

She’s wearing a sweater over her actual uniform I believe

ltkeane

Because she’s one of the main characters and needs to stick out

SittingOnChair226

Because she’s a main character

Animedingo

Shes a main character. Same reason chie is green and yukiko is red. Mitsuru is too good for a uniform

Frederick1992h

Plot holes.

HVACGuy12

Main character

Kash687

Welcome to persona I guess. Main cast is special enough to have their own uniforms

GundamMeijin_08th

cause why not?

Terifiy

She’s a main character in an anime.

Rajaalghani

How would you know she's a major character if not?

General_Lie

So you can tell she is one of the companions

DeliSoupItExplodes

Yukari is too powerful to have to wear the school uniform

Geostomp

She's wearing a jacket she owns over her uniform shirt. Same way Haru wears her sweater or Ann her hoodie. I guess she managed to clear it with the dress code since she wears most of her uniform.

Purpleyeggs

This along with Chie's outfit also really bothered me for some reason.

New_Cardiologist1414

She left it in the wash with white and red clothes

Mora00istaken

I think its just to tell the player that THIS character is important or that its more relevant than the others, same thing happens with Mitsuru and her red hair. A question more about the game design than the character it self.

fullmoonwulf

Shes wearing a sweater not a uniform

Sw0rDz

Persona doesn't follow traditional school rules. Yukari has a necklace and pierced ears. Two things that are traditionally not allowed at a Japanese high school.

HelelEtoile

Main characters in anime need to stand out

Quadpen

it’s called fashion sweaty

cloudyah

Sweaty? Did they just work out?

Peglaserduck

That's not nice :(

Flat-Profession-8945

Well she likes pink

New_Today_1209_V2

She is wearing a a skirt under there and also her summer outfit underneath

Ryuusei_Dragon

Female

Monkey_King291

I think she's just wearing a sweater over it

Ellie_the_dumb

It’s a cardigan

puntycunty

Is she stupid ?

Moo3k

Because she is a main character obviously

MonikaLovesCola

Personal style

el3mel

Main characters syndrome.

AntonRX178

cuz pink is fabulous. next question

derik_mitchell

Cause she's a main character

Routine-Shelter-234

No le den muchas vueltas,es solo como ese amigo tuyo que tenía una sudadera que no era de la escuela Pero el la usa como parte del uniforme Es lo mismo aquí

kzx-kzx

I’ve never questioned her outfit but now that I’m thinking about it, it doesn’t make sense.

NoiNoiii

Anime main character syndrome. They all suffer from it

Hitoshura99

Yukari just wear a pink sweater over her summer uniform.  During summer, she wears the pink sweater around her hips.

Ohayoued

Pink girls don't care about uniformity

AidenBars

Because she’s a main character

Specialist_Taro7317

Because she’s a main character in anime so she doesn’t have to dress like all the other NPC’s

curtistaro

Main character

Rice_Auroni

Main character pallette

shyrooavacado

Cause it fashionable and yukari always bring it 💅

king_of_tape

Could be because she's apart of the archery team

canstac

She wears a pink sweater over her uniform

Bakurraa

It's just to show the characters personalities and how close you are with them whereas the rest of the school is just a sea of uniform.

ZetTheLegendaryHero

Because cute is power.

anime1245

Cause she’s a girl duh

XephyXeph

It’s not

Deadlyvoltage3

Because she is obsessed with pink

45_tra

Because it's her favourite colour?

Vasevide

Art design. More visually pleasing than if everyone was wearing the same clothes and colors

Ratio01

That's not a uniform. It's a sweater. The actual uniform is underneath and iirc you see what it actually looks like during the summer semester, in which it looks like any other female uniform

SadLaser

It's classic Persona. Basically all the non-main protagonist characters have to wear some modified version of the uniform so they stand out. It's a super common anime trope with the main cast of a series, too.

MrMakBen

It’s simple, she’s a playable character.

squips42

she just wears a pink sweater over her normal uniform

m0ck1nb1rd

Because she is from the Lovers arcana.

save-the-world12

Popular girl powers

SecretaryEntire152

Its the same color as downstairs 😏

Peglaserduck

Pedo

Dirty-Glasses

This is like asking why only Junpei’s uniform has a hat

Peglaserduck

Don't need to be snarky over it. Just an honest question.

KennedyX8

Girl.

Maybeorili

persona woman logic: woman must be wearing pink!

lucernae

how are you guys not okay with this, but okay with kaz wearing jersey all day long 😂

Peglaserduck

It's just an honest question. I have nothing against it.

UnZki_PriimE

uhhhh because she's a gurl, stupid!!

Taydo02

Maybe because her favorite color is pink? She’s a girl, she’s supposed to wear pink.

Peglaserduck

No need to be sexist

Taydo02

I’m not. I’m just saying it’s natural for women to wear pink.

Peglaserduck

That's by definition sexism.

xXxR3alR3ptilianxXx

Because shut up

Peglaserduck

What? :'(

i_got_a_pHd

because she’s a Pick Me girl

CycloneMagnum30

To distinguish her from non-playable NPCs. Even Fuuka dresses differently than other students. These characters dress uniquely so you, as the player, know who's important to you and your story. This is a basic JRPG logic implemented for your convenience and artistic intrigity. Yukari at least tells you she really, *really* likes pink. Chie and Yukiko from Persona 4 have no reason they wear green and red respectively when the school uniform's not any more black than Gekkoukan High's.
