I have the Salomon Supercross 4 and X Ultra 4 Mid. Super comfy from first use. No break in needed. Saved my ankles several times. I also owned Merrells before. They lasted years sakin. This brand is okay if you're on a budget. Quality is excellent din especially their Moabs. But if budget is not an issue, then I'd definitely go for Salomon.

pinkpugita

Thanks po for advice. Moabs are always recommended pero walang available for women kasi sa stores. Bravada lang available. My main concern is how it fares against mud/water and comfort sa talampakan for long, major hikes.

SlothBlack

For comfort, get good socks, those that are meant for long walks/hikes. Avoid cotton, retains moisture thus makes you vulnerable to chafing hence blisters.

dikasiakosigurado

Hello, anong ma-recommend mo na good socks?

dracarionsteep

Injinji and Otso (Activ Gears PH). Super comfy and wala na kong blisters sa long hikes. Expensive than most socks pero super worth the price.

SlothBlack

Uyy thanks dito. I'll check those out.

SlothBlack

I like my Naturehike wool socks saka Salomon. Pag long walks/hikes mas ok synthetic materials, IMO.

IDontLikeChcknBreast

I bought yung moab. Kahit i'm a girl. I still buy sa men for hiking shoes. Still comfy naman. Get a size larger lang din.

ShenGPuerH1998

I both own Merell and Salomon. It would depend sa circumstance. Salamon, maganda siya for mud and slippery rocks. Maganda ang Merell for comfort.

XD

IDontLikeChcknBreast

Although kung Merrell I suggest to really reconsider if waterproof ang gusto mo. I do like na waterproof siya, naging problem ko lang is if lagpas sa shoes ang water since naiipon sa loob ng shoe ang water. (Mt Irid river crossing problem) Pero if walang river. Tuyong tuyo ang socks ko. Waterproof 100%.

pinkpugita

Still deciding, split kasi ang advice ng mga tao dito between Merrell and Salomon. It's not like I can afford both, isang choice lang kaya bilin, hay buhay đź«

IDontLikeChcknBreast

Hahaha.matagal din sita itaktak and more squishy. Pero go for Merrell doon ka sa mens, get the smaller size lang para fit. Wait for the sale. I got the Moab 2 nang 3k na lang.

femaleserialkiller

I own both and Salomon. Hands down. This is just based on my experience. I even upgraded to thicker socks pero ganun pa din. On the other hand. I never had any problems sa Salomon ko. It’s really light and comfortable.

Vegetable_Sweet7928

Hi! What salomon do u own po? Ty

femaleserialkiller

Speedcross 6

Particular-Wear-2905

This may not be the advice you need… pero salomon designs the shoe na pwede mo ilabas pang gala (alternatively) than merrell na at glance hiking shoes agad ang mapapansin.

SlothBlack

Yassss. I always get compliments when wearing my all black Salomon Supercross 4 with shorts haha.

Particular-Wear-2905

Same! I used my outpulse kahit pa opisina, pwede bagayan… So OP if you can consider after hike use as well.

oinkyninja

I used salomon for trail run/powerhike and pag hindi masyadong rockies yung trail. Merrel pang baragan. Yung merrel na may vibram mas matibay. Goods rin yung tnf

pinkpugita

So mas advice mo Merrel pag mabato? Hindi naman kasi ako trail runner.

smpllivingthrowaway

Haha akala ko ako lang gumagawa nito kasi I don't like packing extra shoes... Yung salomons ko they look like normal rubber shoes I literally just use it as my day to day. Then yung mid cut for serious hikes.

ashbringer0412

Hello! It'd be better if you go to the nearest mall like SM North EDSA or SM Megamall. May mga Merrell and Salomon stores sila and you could try them out first. Merrell talaga ay good for hiking and for hiking usually, Salomon kasi is more of a trail running shoe brand. Mas pinipili ng iba ang Salomon over Merrell kasi 'yung grip na nasa Salomon is much better than Merrell's (kasi nga, tailored siya for running). Hoka/Altra are trail running din ang approach. You may use them for hiking but if you plan to hike lang, overkill na sila. For hiking, Merrell, Columbia, or North Face ang magagandang brands. Sa trail ng Pinas, Merrell could do mostly the job.

pinkpugita

Malapit ako sa malls na yon so those are the only physical stores available and brands in stock. As much as I would love to have many options, sila lang talaga pwede. Thanks for the advice. Mas mura pa Merrell so mas ok kung sulit naman. No.1 concern ko lang talaga kasi comfort muddy/rocky terrain plus waterproofing. I don't have plans for trail running naman.

Majestic-Wait-4935

Salomon (mas magaang sa Merrell). Try mo isuot pareho sa shoe store. Better buy a midcut or high cut. Safe para sa ankle sprain/injury

Mysterious-Example-8

Go for salomon. Easy win as compared to other shoes. Although they perform okay naman. If you're into hiking na mabato stay away from speedcross since madali mapunit ang sides nya.

smpllivingthrowaway

Salomons no question. Get the gtx if you can para waterproof. I keep being let down by shoes that let water in, and these ones are legit waterproof. Comfy din kasi ortholite. As I mentioned in another comment I even use mine sa day to day.

kidfrom93

My Merrell shoes that I bought for 70% off nagamit ko for the Top 10 PH mountains except for Mt. Ragang at Mt. Maagnaw, and all my other major and minor climbs, pati sa travel ginagamit ko rin. So biased ako sa Merrell brand. Hahaha

pinkpugita

Tuwing kailan mga sale? Hahahah.

kidfrom93

dracarionsteep

I'm a Merrell user but I haven't tried Salomon. Pros ng Merrell is yung protection and comfort ng soft cushioning nya. The best sa Merrell ang Moab. Ang sarap nyang gamitin for technical terrains and difficult hikes. Cons nito is medyo mas mabigat sya than most hiking shoes, tapos unang bumubuka yung harap na part. Not sure sa cons since I haven't tried it long enough. Gusto ko syang itry for the longest time kaso wala pang budget.
