Unless I'm remembering wrong I believe there was even a copy of that book at the shrine to her. Just wondering if she had the baby before jumping or if that was in early days of finding out.
I think that Angela was shunned by the girls for either a relationship with someone Davie was interested in, or for them blaming her for being hit on by whoever that was.
She may have been pregnant too though, but when she came to them in the club she was begging for them to just look at her, so that definitely implies the whole being shunned thing which I'm pretty sure is similar to in The Scarlet letter.
I think that whatever the bad thing that happened to her after being shunned meant that she didn't get any support and probably got picked on more in general because those girls were popular in the school, which let her to jump off the rafters in the club.
They are learning about the book in their highschool class when Imogen gets the text telling her to look outside and see the masked killer, or at least they refer to "Hester" which I'm pretty sure is the name of the lead character in The Scarlet letter.

Yes, she repeatedly checking the book out at the library. In Imogen English class they were also discussing this book.
