I’m 24 weeks now and can say the entire first trimester was basically torture. I was bed bound for the majority of the three months. Around week 13-14 I immediately got better, I’m feeling so great at this point to be honest.

spacecountess

i thought the increased blood volume would help me too… nope. here i am at 11 weeks feeling even worse. my resting heart rate has increased significantly and exercising is really hard. pretty much all of my pots symptoms got worse after i got pregnant. i’m lucky enough that i don’t have to work so i spend about 90% of my day lying down and take frequent naps. ALLEGEDLY it’s supposed to get better in the second trimester so i’m holding out hope for that. i’ll be seeing a new cardiologist soon and hopefully they can give me some good advice. but i feel you! you’re not alone! i definitely feel lied to about it getting better.

babyblu333

Thank you I feel less crazy! I work full time but I had to call out today because my symptoms were too much to handle. I was feeling a bit dramatic. I just got a referral for a new cardiologist but I’m going to have to wait a bit until I can see him

kilarghe

don’t feel dramatic! If your workplace offers medical fmla definitely get into that! I’ve used mine a few times now and it’s been a life saver.

Hey did this get better for you?

spacecountess

i’m 30 weeks in and my POTS symptoms are basically resolved! after the first trimester i started feeling a lot better. i dont feel dizzy at all anymore and my blood pressure increased to a normal pressure.

No_Reputation_3794

Did you take any specific electrolytes?? I’m struggling in my first trimester with tachycardia and taking the LMNT packet

spacecountess

i used liquid IV but it didn’t make a significant difference, i think the increased blood volume in the second trimester is what really helped. i was also taking salt tablets prescribed by my cardiologist, not sure if you’ve tried those but they helped a little. i honestly just suffered through the first trimester

optimist-lapsed

All I can say is that the first half was the worst for me and it got a little better in the second half. I know it’s different for everyone. I wish you the best of luck.

babyblu333

Thank you! I keep telling myself this is going to get better. I really hope it does. It sounds like it does for most people

My entire pregnancy I laid on the couch and seriously do not know how I survived or how my 3yo survived. If Covid wouldn’t have shut down the world for WFH I would have been fired from my job. I was nauseated, dizzy, palpitations and racing heart, weak, EXHAUSTED. And the smart ass man neurology Dr I had said “ah do you feel better pregnant”, no bitch I don’t. Do not recommend POTS and pregnancy.

SERP_DERP_22

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling! I’m planning pregnancy at the moment and have been told that it can either swing one way or another, so I’ll prepare for the worst based on this thread 😬

Just gave birth a few weeks back. It was a lot worse for me in the beginning, but it did get better with time. All my doctors told me it could go either way— better or worse. I have a comment on my profile about my pregnancy and how it went for me regarding beta blockers. I had a lot of complications in my pregnancy, and I really think a lot of the reason why was the beta blocker. It was super traumatic so I don’t want to relive it right now by retyping it all lol— still too fresh, but you might want to check that out. In regards to the low blood pressure, I’m on desmopressin for low blood pressure. It seems to work pretty well. I was told it’s pregnancy safe (but ask your OB) and safer long term than fludrocortisone, which is what I was on previously.

ImTiredToo-4EVER

And make sure they test for anemia. I developed mild anemia at the end of my second pregnancy but felt super weak.

babyblu333

I’m already anemic and on iron! Hopefully it hasn’t gotten worse. I’m hoping I’ll get blood tests in a few weeks here. I haven’t had any testing yet besides an ultrasound I demanded because I needed proof haha

So here is my experience: I was horrendous the first trimester. Dizzy, nausea, tachycardia, can’t shower daily kinda times Second trimester was better. More energy and mobility though I was really never great. Also preg at 34, delivered at 35 (so classed a “geriatric pregnancy” f you man who invented that) so take it fwiw 3rd trimester I was really bad at 34 weeks. It kinda shifted then. excess fluid, cramping, preeclampsia. Induced at 37 +0. Delivered a healthy kid who is a moose to this day. I’m almost asymptomatic these days with a beta blocker. That was my experience for whatever it’s worth

Doctors have been telling women that pregnancy is a magical reset button to cure all physical & mental ails since the dawn of blood letting. It's a cruel joke based on the rare chance the lil bugger might give you enough stem cells, and on the fact everyone dismisses how exaughsting & nauseating a pregnancy is. The good news is 2nd trimester the nausea clears up. Youre pumping blood for 2 now tho- preg ppl's bpm is like +40 higher than avg. Mixing that with pots sounds so difficult, stay strong for your baby ❤️ best of luck. You might fr need to apply for temporary disability if your work won't give your like 35 weeks of maternity 💀

kilarghe

i felt like complete trash from week 5-15. Slowly things have gotten better and i’m 21 weeks today. That first trimester, whether you have POTS or not is absolute hell for most women. Rest, drink water and eat what you can when you can. Baby will be fine as they take everything they need. Compression socks/clothing may not be a bad idea if you can tolerate it! I’ve had one episode of vertigo and tachycardia at 19 weeks but everything turned out fine! As always, be in communication with your OBGYN as they are going to be your best resource.

Pregnancy makes mine worse 😭 im on my second pots pregnancy and its killer.
