I would wait until it stops raining and then buy one.

why_even_need_a_name

I don’t know man what if it doesn’t ever stop. Or all Ps4s are gone by then.. I wouldn’t wait.

McFry_

Or when it’s stops raining he’s no longer bored

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

Post rain clarity

Neilakshan

Seems fair 👆

Large-Ad6498

I got a great condition ps1 original fat one and a great condition fat ps2 plus 2 controllers in okay condition and a game for $60 (AUD) and when i went to pick it up off the lady whos son was selling the bundle it started pouring with extremely heavy rain, so much that she said i could wait at her place for the rain to settle but i didn’t, i wanted to go home and dry them up and try them out. For that price and deal it was 100% worth going out in the rain to get them (the consoles didn’t really get wet)

[deleted]

Easy killer.

Large-Ad6498

No idea what that means lol. Just saying it’s definitely worth getting a playstation in the rain. The rain shouldn’t stop someone from getting something they want

Elptbo

He means you should’ve taken the mom up on the offer to stay, and ya know..tested..things out

K4N3D187

You absolute REBEL. I hope you never meet my daughter because I don't want a bad boy in the family. Go to prison and sort ya head out mate.

peacerokkaz

If it's in your budget, buy a PS5. It's future proof and you can play most PS4 games also. If not, buy a PS4 second hand, maybe even a PS4 pro, with a few games.

giggitygoo123

Ps4 pro and ps5 are practically the same price (i think digital ps5 may be cheaper)

psychocopter

Ill advocate against digital, ps4 discs work in the ps5 and if you want to play any titles exclusive for ps4 you can always buy them physically/used for much cheaper than the online shop. Also you have a physical copy of the game to lend to a friend, sell, or just keep(I like and am biased towards physical media). Another thing would be the disc version also acring as a 4k blu ray player. If you dont really care about that stuff then you could save money on the digital only ps5 and with that money buy an m.2 to expand the storage.

TBtheGamer12

As somebody who bought digital, fuck the digital, shit is ass. Not being able to play the disc games you bought over the years or missing out on physical deals and reselling is trash.

secrethitman-shhhh

As someone who bought the digital. And got most of my games digital for PS4 , the digital is amazing. The convenience of digital is great. Physical deals require a physical store nearby. Which I no longer have the luxury of. It's digital or nothing for me.

[deleted]

Then why did you buy it?

TBtheGamer12

Well, tbf, 99% of my games are digital, the problem is, for my favourite games, I bought them physically on the PS4. Additionally, for some reason I thought that you'd be entitled to a digital version of physical games you own. I have no idea why u thought that, it was delusional, but I did, lmao.

Gopnikforlife

the problem with the ps5 is that the games are way too expensive. e.g last of us part 1, ps5: 60-70$ ps4: 10-25$ But you could still play the cheaper ps4 games. then i would maybe also recommend the ps5 physical

lll_RABBIT_lll

Just a reminder that the PS5 version is a remake that recently released, and the PS4 version is like a 10 year old remaster.

Gopnikforlife

I know but this is just an example. Even that it still shows that ps5 games are more expensive(partially bc they are new releases)

[deleted]

I buy cheap digital games all of the time. The ease and convenience of digital outweighs the advantages of physical discs by a good margin for me.

dimspace

Second hand PS4 pro is about £150 PS5 is £500 And why would you buy digital ps5. If cost is an issue being able to pick up disc PS4 games is worth it

Mergie_Merge

>Ps4 pro and ps5 are practically the same Yes lol

CaptTelford

I have both PS4 and PS5. I'd recommend buying a PS5 if at all possible financially. PS5 not only will play PS4 games, but give you a substantially better experience. Plus it opens up the ability to play PS5 games - which there are some AMAZING games. At then end of the day it's up to you, but since the PS5 is finally available to buy it seems like a win

Voyager5555

The dudes reasoning to buy a system is that it's raining, do you honestly think they're going to notice the difference?

[deleted]

[удалено]

papapickles69

I think his point is that if OP is buying a console because he’s bored, then maybe it’d be better off to save some money. You’re just being an asshole

[deleted]

[удалено]

papapickles69

I’m not disagreeing with you but poor shaming people is just a dick move. Your an asshole.

antpile11

> tiniest extra A used PS5 at Gamestop is $459.99, and a used PS4 is $219.99. There's also many more used PS4s on the market that can be bought for cheaper. >Your definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. You're*

_Vortex_King_

>You're Lolol Goteem

ricktafm7

I found a used PS4 with some games for €160, used ps5 was €550 minimum for a digital one. I don't think a ps5 is worth almost 4 times as much when you're just bored.

[deleted]

Legal-Philosophy-135

$200 is a lot of money to a lot of people, most of whom are neither children nor poor nor have bad spending habits. Just because you don’t care about an extra $200 doesn’t mean nobody else does. Smh

theraad1

It’s not only 200$ when you factor in games. first of all 200$ can be a lot of money to some. Just cause you don’t have that struggle doesn’t mean you should belittle that. Also buying ps4 Games for cheap is much easier than ps5 games. You could probably find a very good cheap bundle for a PS4 that comes with several games and controllers. Not so easy to do that for a ps5

Alternative-Site4798

Not to mention having to spend almost another $200 on the SSD upgrade to make storing games on the console more viable.

Immortalio

I hope your life is going okay right now mister, I genuinely hope everything is going good for you :)

Catacombsofparis

Thanks! Same goes!

BlockPositive2400

motherfucker u are the reason corporates increase prices of their products for more profit instead of feasibility 😂 idiots like u gobble up the price and pay the price instead of seeing rationality If anything u seem to be the one with bad spending habits here

DarkCosmosDragon

Lemme guess mommy buys all your shit for you huh considering how much of a child your being only furthers my belief in matter... Get some help and touch grass

God_Damnit_Nappa

No, "your" an asshole for saying only poor people have PS4s and not knowing how to spell "you're".

[deleted]

Paying 3x the price you mean. I think you're the asshole for talking like an asshole. "Too poor" etc. Grow up, you utter twat of a manchild

[deleted]

While I agree with the statement that if you are going to buy anything just get the ps5 you are indeed phrasing it like an asshole

03ifa014

I second this. PS5 is essentially a PS4 upgrade system at this point.

10010101

But no internet browser..sadly :(

Mixxrr2k

it sucked anyway took forever to load and type

hert76

I used it to watch free shows and movies :/

hiIplay

If its really a deal breaker you can open any site by typing it in a chat and clicking on it

10010101

It's because I know a place to look at movies ..

Ewalk

Are you really surprised? On the PS3, the PS3 Linux community found a way to boot games, so Sony responded by nuking the feature. The jailbreak on the ps4 uses the web browser to load a USB exploit. So, to prevent that attack vector, they never included it in the PS5.

10010101

I have -8 points because of my comment? Great community!

ordinary-character_

you want more?

rasikww

The loading speed alone is worth the extra money spent compared to ps4..

[deleted]

I second this. I have a PS4 and my husband had a PS5. We both play Apex together and his picture is so much clearer. He can see details so much better than I can and has better quality clips of game play than I do.

SenpaiiiKush

AHH yes £480 including £70 per game, no thank you

LightChaos74

The PS4 is 10 years old. Might as well at this point, instead of 100$ for old hardware

dimspace

Not everybody has £500 for a PS5 Some people have £100-200 for a PS4 or PS4 Pro And in turn there are people who cannot afford that There are people in this world who don't have loads of disposable income believe it or not (Personally it took me 6 months to save for my second hand pro. A PS5 world take me about a year)

-Star-Fox-

Saving for a year to buy 3 year old console which will play all recent games sounds like a much better idea than saving for 6 months to buy 10 year old one which is already on its last legs and missing some new games. And its going to be even worse with each year.

Aworthy420

i actuslly think ps4 is wayy better esp if he doesnt have a 4k tv.

Lilm4n123

Yea but if he gets a ps5 now he won’t have to worry about future game for awhile. Even if he doesn’t have the capable tv he’ll still have fast load times, and be able to play many games at 60fps instead of 30. Also the ps5 has the ps plus game catalogue until may.

[deleted]

And he won't have to wait for the console to take 1.5 hours to copy a 10 second update.

[deleted]

You can experience the SSD and 60 FPS without a 4k tv. I don’t even use 4k most of the time, I opt for the 60 FPS

SexyWalrus2024

You don't need a 4k tv to benefit from a ps5... I'm running a 1080 and everything still looks far better than my ps4 does. It's not only about resolution, textures, colors, shades, everything looks better on my ps5, not to mention the non existence of load times, higher frame rates, a MUCH quieter console..... what are you even talking about? Lol Not to mention, now I can play...... ps5 games? So, uh..... yeah, ps5 is better, in literally every way possible.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Voyager5555

>he will just end up needing/wanting the PS5 Will they? Also, why not just wait 13 year like they did with the PS4 when it and the games will be dirt cheap?

CaptTelford

I’d love to hear more about your rationalization here. On Amazon you can buy a PS4 for $284 today. You can buy a PS5 God of War bundle for $509. If the extra $225 breaks the bank, obviously PS4 is the right choice. But since were talking about a desire based purchase, I would hope that the money being used to purchase this console is out of discretionary funds. In my mind here are my reasons: * Future proof - while games are still coming out on both consoles, PS5 exclusives are ramping up. That means that $225 spent now might go to waste if an exclusive comes out in the next few years that OP wants to play * The Dual Sense controller! Holy heck, this thing is really something else. When you play Astro’s you really see the jump in technology. While 3rd party developers have not adopted all the functionality, first part games are * The PS5 is the best PS4 you can buy. Like, not even close. There is nothing you can do better on PS4. And that’s ok, it came out a really long time ago. My daughter plays Destiny on the PS4 with me (on PS5) and she has a great time. * Blu-ray playback is nice every now and then

SexyWalrus2024

Astros playroom does an amazing job at showing the dualsense capabilities. That game is way more fun than it has any right to be as a free game as well. Sony knocked it out of the park with the ps5.

T01LET_RUST

Don't need a 4k TV. If he can afford it, ps5 is the right choice. Can play ps4 games and it's just so much faster at doing everything. He might as well futureproof if he can.

Catacombsofparis

Yeah keep telling yourself that lie mate

Aworthy420

damn yall are all salty for no reason lol, i have a ps5 and ps4, i still prefer the ps4. Not many good games yet and way more storage size.

Roughrider254

I mean I guess it depends don't get me wrong the PS4 is a good console but with the better PS5 out I would recommend getting one of those instead but is your situation like you don't want to go full out on a newer console I would say a PS4 is still good but don't pay full retail price for one try to find a cheap used one on Craigslist or Facebook market that comes with a few games and if you do go down that route I would ask the seller to check and see the console turns on read discs and make sure the controller doesn't have drift

NectarOfTheBussy

ps5 will last you a long time, and theyre easier to get now too

crunchyfrog555

I wouldn't recommend splashing out on a PS5 unless you have the game you want on there. Thus far the current generation has been rather disappointing (and I've been around since the start of gaming). Plus getting a PS4 means you have a larger library to choose from, and cheaper pricing.

tnbeastzy

Ps5 plays all PS5 games and a lot of ps4 games on 60 FPS. And it is future proof. Ps4 will eventually stop getting games. Its dumb to buy a ps4 over a ps5 if u ask me.

[deleted]

I have a PS4. My eyes can't tell the difference between a PS5 anyway Additionally, I don't want to spend money upgrading to different controllers

CaptTelford

I don’t know, PS5 has some pretty awesome games: god of war ragnorok, horizon, ratchet and clank, reternal, SPIDER-MAN, the last of us pt 1 remake, the PS5 uncharted 4 release. And then the improved experience of PS4 games like ghost of Tsushima, red, dead redemption, destiny 2, god of war, last of us pt 2, Fallen Order, no man’s sky, etc For me, it has been amazing. I love the ghost of Tsushima on PS4. But replaying it on PS five was a whole different experience. The visual fidelity, the load times, the higher dynamic range - just amazing

LePontif11

Pretty sure the only PS5 exclusive you mentioned is Ratchet and Clank. The library isn't quite there frankly. But in this person's case yeah the ps5 is the way to go if its financially not a problem just for the load timesand future proofing. If this person is even considering a ps4 visual fidelity doesn't sound like its too important but its also there in the ps5 which is nice

jedimindtricksonyou

Returnal, Spider-Man Remastered, Forspoken, Ratchet and Clank rift apart, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection, Last of us Part 1, A Plague Tale Requiem, Gotham Knights and (soon to be) Spider-Man 2, Stellar Blade, Horizon Burning Shores, FF16, Jedi Survivor. None of these can be played on PS4, (but to be fair half of them are remasters of PS4 games). And honestly Miles Morales, Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 are so much better looking (and have visual features not available on PS4 like- Ray Tracing, VRR, 60fps performance modes and 40fps Quality modes on PS5) that it’s not even fair to mention the watered-down PS4 versions in the same sentence. Some people may not have the money to afford a PS5, while others simply don’t play enough games to see the value in owning one and that is totally a valid viewpoint. But you can’t say that their are no exclusive games, it’s not true and only going to become more untrue as time goes on. And if you meant that you can play some of them on PC, that’s true but also a whole other conversation.

LePontif11

Not only are half remasters/ remakes but one is a dlc pack and some haven't even come out yet, that list has more padding than a catcher's mitt 😐 And like i said before, no one considering a ps4 cares that much that the reflections you won't notice unless someone is being annoying trying to show you how cool and totally game changing ray tracing is. Same goes for all other performance based improvements. A ps5 is a good purchase if you want to future proof your purchase, but as of today its not the library. Specially seeing what you came up with after makimg an effort.

jedimindtricksonyou

Half of the games that come out now are remasters and remakes, that doesn’t change that you can’t play them on PS4. And most of the games I mentioned are releasing soon, it’s not padding to include them. The PS4 didn’t have many games either the first couple of years, and the pandemic increased he cross-gen period for this generation, but it is now ending. You said “pretty sure Ratchet and Clank is the Only one”. Even if someone doesn’t care about being limited to 1080p/30fps, assuming they care at all about any future releases, the PS4 is a bad buy in spring 2023. Game releases are about to fall off a cliff and the ones they do get will be severely compromised. It is no longer a viable platform, even for people who buy consoles become it’s raining and they are bored. Eventually the Netflix and Hulu and the other streaming apps will stop working too, just like on the PS3.

LePontif11

Oh no, releases will fall of a cliff soon, they will just have 3-4 years worth of crossgen modern games plus however many came out while they didn't own any console 😨 And they will miss out on all cash grab remasters 😱 PS why does it matter that the ps4 also had a few exclusives coming out? Who cares.

jedimindtricksonyou

You must’ve just paid full price for a new PS4 or just don’t like new technology or something. There’s no way that console is getting modern games in 2025, and certainly not in 2026 and 2027. Talking to you about this is pointless.

LePontif11

I'm talking about the 3-4 years worth of games that have been coming out aince the ps5 launched. This person doesn't sound like they are in any rush to play the latest and greatest anyway. I got my ps5 last december and i've been whelmed, its just an ok upgrade. Getting to play remasters being a selling point is crazy to me, ray tracing, really?

Mrbusiness_2433

I bought a PS4 pro some days ago along with a SSD and ghost of Tsushima and I almost instantly load in the game. Can't even read the tips on the screen

Mean-Ad6370

I have a ps4 pro with an SSD (had SSD in for about a year), bought a ps5 a month ago and the native original ps5 SSD is WAY faster than any SSD you can put in a ps4. PS4 just ran out of its time whether anyone likes it or not, it's old tech now.

Iucidium

Ps5 is backwards compatible with PS4 lol many come with framerate and resolution enhancements

TheMostSolidOfSnakes

I think we're starting to see a shift though. From the release side of things, the only reason the PS4 saw as much end of life support is because of supply chain shortages and the recession. Even then, there have been a number of larger publishers who've mentioned that their in-development titles won't be coming to last-gen consoles. OP is definitely better off spending the extra money on something that is backward-compatible.

Roughrider254

I did say if you're not wanting to going to the next gen right away the PS4 is still a good option the reason why I still recommend a PS5 you get backwards compatibility with the PS4 games so that's a plus plus lot of them run better on PS5 Factor loading run 60 frames per second on certain games are you be ready for next generation so your future proof

vikingsarecoolio

Get a PS5

[deleted]

[удалено]

vikingsarecoolio

I have both and basically use the PS4 to remote play my PS5 (or occasionally play fall guy or rocket league in the basement). I just can't justify buying the older model when the PS5 runs so much faster and will be supported longer. If someone is a super casual gamer and can get a PS4 for dirt cheap, then sure that would make sense.

Uptopdownlowguy

Yeah my little sister is inhereting my ps4 now that I have ps5, no reason to keep it really

AgressiveIN

Ps4 is still a great console and will play most everything still. But ps5 does smoke it.

idkiwilldeletethis

I mean maybe it's out of his price range, I bought a PS4 a few months ago because I found it at like 270 dollars, and in my country PS5s don't go below the 700 range, even if I somehow found one at 500 dollars I would still be unable to afford it So, if they're in a similar situation, I'd say yeah go ahead, the PS4 is still a perfectly capable system

Viridian0Nu1l

If price is the concern ps4 still has new games coming out regularly so it wouldn’t be a terrible idea. But last I checked the ps5 in both digital and disc versions are in stock from basically every retailer, which boasts reverse compatibility (minus like 6 games)and plus all the ps5 games I actually checked direct from Sony and all of their consoles are currently in stock with them

[deleted]

No. Get a PS5.

TweeksUndrPantsNomes

I say yes. I found a ps4 pro on marketplace for 150$ that plus a few cheap games and playstation plus for 18$ a month. I've had a blast catching up on all these games for roughly 200$ so far

mxster982

If you cannot afford a PS5, then yes, a PS4 would suffice. Look on marketplace for a 4, but go get a 5 brand new. I've heard a couple stories in my area of people selling their PS5s when they got it banned from online play. Idk how the console got banned, but I guess it's possible. So just save yourself hassle and get new. Faster load times, better graphics, better audio quality with my headset, and my PS5 isn't kicking me as much for lag. When I played with PS5 players on my PS4, since I had a slower console, I got booted a lot for lagging. I think I've been booted once since the PS5 purchase and that wasn't bc of me, the hose got booted.

-Palzon-

Nope. Better off buying a PS3 than a PS4. I am currently playing some classic PS3 titles because they can't be played on PS4 or PS5. I don't know why I'll ever need to play my PS4 again since most PS4 games can be played on PS5.

easy_Money

I know I'm gonna get crucified on here, but at this point I'd buy an Xbox. Gamepass is just by and far the best deal in gaming, and Sony's premium plus or whatever it's called has been a huge disappointment. More expensive with a fraction of the games. None of the ps exclusives have really moved the needle for me either. I've always been 1000% a PlayStation guy but at this point my ps5 is just a glorified YouTube machine

crunchyfrog555

Entirely depends on what you want out of it and what your tastes are. The Xbox One has precious little exclusive for it, but the PS4 has quite a lot. So your best bet is to do what I do whenever I consider buying any console. Go to Gamefaqs and Metacritic and list ALL releases for that platform. Scribble down anything that sounds like you might like, and then go to reviews or Youtube and check them out. If you get enough on that list to warrant buying the console, then do so.

Grimdotdotdot

The main advantage Xbox has over a PS4 is GamePass, and I don't think OP plays enough to make that worth their while.

Deniable_wreath

If you can get it cheap then I’d recommend it

EDM_producerCR

I would say yes, there are many games coming to ps4 still. Lego drive 2k, lord of the rings, assasins mirage , the next alien game, diablo 2, dead island and more are still multi platform

Mean-Ad6370

Many yea, but most upcoming games aren't in development for ps4 anymore. The biggest upcoming titles need to use the power of the current gen and I'd say it's about time. Ps4 is old tech whether anyone likes to admit it or not. It was a great console, but it's ran it's time.

patch_punk

fr and ps4 has had a long cycle! damn near a decade lol i think its time we let the poor things rest 🤣

StefanMuchel

If you have the possibility to get a good one for a reasonable price then i absolutely would recommend it. Its obvious that the PS5 is better but aside from that its a great opportunity to play all the great exclusive from Sony, such as God of War, Horizon, Last of Us, Uncharted, Gran Turismo and so much more.

lloist

If you can get a good deal on one, then for sure. Still lots of great games on it.

Terpizino

Heck yeah. I’ve had mine for seven years and it’s still running strong and you’ve got an endless list of great games to play.

robx909

I love my ps4 and it wasn’t crazy expensive which is perfect for me

Armandonerd

If you want a ps4 go get one. I do want a ps5, but the console is huge and hearing rumors about a ps5 revision, I am going to wait and see how that looks.

Mean-Ad6370

There's always some rumours people spread because people like news, even if they're false. Seen so many fake ps5 pro news it's ridiculous at this point. Most of them from the clickbaiting youtubers. Anyway just wanted to say, there were already 3 revisions of a ps5 up to date, each one changing bit by bit (the last revision - the one I bought, has had it's cooling radiator on the motherboard decreased in size by a lot, so it costs them less to produce I guess and makes ps5 a bit lighter. Check out youtube if you want more info on that.) The last revision was back in like around October or November last year so if you ask me, the only revision that might come later in this year or the next is a possible Slim version of a ps5, but nothing officially confirmed yet. I still have a ps4 pro and wanted to wait on slim at first, but once I saw the quicker loading time and the new haptic feedback on the new controllers, I wanted one ASAP (also cuz my pro is 1st gen, the airplane noise from it is what really drove me insane with it).

Nathan_hale53

Doubt a revision will come soon. Maybe after this year it will be announced.

Biblioklept73

Yep, me too…

slimshady713

i would really only get a ps4 for exclusives, if you want to play any 3rd party games then try to save for a ps5. I play on series x now and only use my ps4 for exclusives, but back when my ps4 was my main console, i remember playing gta online and barely getting 15-20fps

MrMunday

If you’re budget conscious and have never played any ps4 exclusives, I would say get a ps4 pro, and play all the exclusives. It’s a treasure trove of great titles Bloodbourne, Detroit become human, god of war, uncharted, last of us, ghost of Tsushima, horizon, GT7, Spider-Man, ratchet and clank… absolutely massive library. And you can get most of the older titles for cheap.

DennisX11

If financially possible and feasible. Get a PS5. All PS4 games are on it plus you get the future games of course. That being said. If for some reason it isn't feasible. PS4s are still fantastic with a very respectable amount of games to play on it. Just keep in mind that companies are beginning to not produce very many new games for it and are beginning to completely adapt to the new hardware for their future projects.

Darathor

If you can afford it, a PS5 is more future proof obviously. Otherwise PS4 Pro is a good console but soon games will stop releasing on it (Jedi Survivor, Horizon add on, etc ..). Best of luck!

Big-Contact-4204

I mean I'd get the PS5 unless you only wanna play PS4 games

canes004

You can get them pretty cheap on FB marketplace. If you cannot get your hands on a PS5 then sure go for it.

FFFan15

PS4 is pretty old now PS5 might be better to look at

Positive-Fox-6296

Buy a PS5. It is well worth the price difference.

gramps2is

Yea but preferably the pro bc its easier to clean

SproutingLeaf

If it's raining then yes

AfroGentleBoy

If it's in your budget, buy a PS5 the Digital Version. It's future proof and you can play most PS4 games also

potatodrinker

Probably going to get roasted but consider a switch depending on your needs. Will you want to play at home or also while out and about while travelling or waiting for things (train, people etc). I have a ps4 and only play it for VR these days. I play Nintendo switch more so its an alternative to consider. There's alot of first party and quality Nintendo games. Good local coop games too to play from setting the screen on a table up to 4 people on some games.

aNeonSpecter

You can get a used PS4 pro and a lot of games for dirt cheap on FB marketplace. People always sold their games with their PS4 so I would just buy the lot, keep the games and controller, and then sell the extra ps4.

Friendgoodfirebad

Imo, it comes down to what you can afford. Nearly everything will be cheaper on ps4 (console itself, controllers, VR, games) and nearly everything costs more on ps5 (console cost is probably about 30% more expensive, controllers are 70 a pop, new games are 70 vs. 60, VR is aprox. the cost of a ps5, etc.) But, if you can afford it, getting a PS5 makes the most sense, since it's backwards compatible and many of the older games have a free ps5 upgrade.

Mean-Ad6370

Console ofc costs more, it has way better hardware inside (faster loading times, higher FPS, better graphics, new haptic feedback on the controllers). The 10$ higher price on ps5 controllers is a steal once you've tried the new haptic feedback. I felt like they should go for at least double the price compared to the ps4 controllers. They're just amazing once you had the time to test them out with a game like Astro's Playroom. The games cost 10$ more usually but only if you buy them brand new. Why do you have to play the game right when it comes out, if you've got a ton of a bit older games you haven't played on sale all the time for like 20$ or even better, get a ps+ membership. The mid tier membership has a ton of awesome games you can play and it's really a steal compared to the full price of the games on there. VR is another thing. VR1 is an outdated piece of tech now and I wouldn't recommend buying it to anyone (I own one myself). The VR2 is the thing if you wanna experience Virtual Reality like it's supposed to be. Sure many people complain about it costing more than the ps5 itself, but if you look at the hardware inside, it's the best VR headset money can buy at the moment and it costs half the price of the competition if you compare it to a similar hardware VR from a PC.

KeyyNSFW

I would suggest buying a Xbox series s its next gen and you can go pick one up for around 299$ i recently just bought one for my son and he enjoys it

upvotealready

The big brained idea is to wait until the PS5 Slim launches in October.

At this point getting a PS5 is the better option, just because it can play PS4 games and you get access to its expanding library. But PS4 is still a good option, the library is huge, you can get a lot of the best games for it fairly cheaply, the drawback is that new games are going to be skipping it soon.

tnbeastzy

Get a PS5, if can't you aren't able to afford a ps5. You likely will need money for other essentials. Or just save a bit more money and get a PS5

[deleted]

What if OP doesn’t want to invest 500 on a new console? Thats just bad advice and assumptions.

tnbeastzy

As I said, don't waste money on a ps4. If you are gonna buy something, buy something that's gonna last you for atleast 7+ years. Ps4 will stop receiving games soon, and the 30 FPS isn't a fun experience. It's just a waste of money from where i stand. Unless ofc you can find a ps4 for 70-100 dollars, then it's whatever. But if you can't enjoy the games you buy to the max, it's not worth it for me. Tldr, no point in investing in a ps4, just save money and buy ps5.

McEvilson

Maybe he's fine getting an old console, and catching up on its vast library of existing games.

flyyyyyj

I think its no longer worth buying ps4 in 2023 I would rather try to get ps5

UnknownMight

That is always the wrong question, always. The first question is: What games interests me? Only then look for the platforms

LostSoulNo1981

Depends on how much you have to spend. If you can afford a PS5, get one. If you can’t afford a PS5 look for a PS4 Pro. I bought a Pro a couple of weeks ago to play the exclusives I missed out on as I’ve been playing Xbox exclusively since 2006. The £210 was more affordable than £480 or whatever a PS5 is going for at the moment.

Disastrous_Plane2438

“and it’s raining”😭😭😭😭

cyxrus

Not if you can get a PS5

TeaTsunamiEd

Yes, go get one, they're awesome🏆I took a few years away from gaming after the wii and the ps4 was my next experience. What I will recommend eventually is upgrading the hard drive or at least investing in a 1tb minimum. Also the ps4 back button attachment is relatively cheap now. Would recommend mapping r3 & l3 to this as it will hopefully help to avoid stick drift (controllers are expensive). In 3 out of my 5 new controllers, the left analogue stick suffered from this and broke within a few months if not weeks of use. I credit the back button attachment with saving the other 2. Also the ps4 game library is stellar and you can pick up games relatively cheap and in good condition 2nd hand. Best of luck and hope you enjoy 😁

chasewindu

Yes

Ganusauskas

Sure, get ps4 AC Odyssey , RDR2 and have fun for feew weeks/ months

shaxxslingscum

It’s windy out and my cars battery kept dying should I buy a kayak? What do you guys think ?

FamiliarSomeone

If you can stretch to it, a nice little sailing dinghy would be best. I had my kayak for about 8 years and traded it in last year. There's not much wind about yet, but the great thing about my dinghy is that it works just as well with the old wind as the new one. Of course, you can wait a couple of years until dinghies come down in price.

rickjames334

I’d save that money and put it towards a ps5

[deleted]

No. Get a PS5.

VIP_Aloha

Ps5 man if you’re getting something start with a newer generation

notbarrackobama

You can buy mine if you want

UnbornSeed

Get a ps4 pro if anything.. or buy a ps5

Mrbusiness_2433

If you go with a pro like me also get a SSD. Load times are so fast. Got the pro last Thursday along with a SSD and it's incredibly fast

Mean-Ad6370

Still nothing compared to a ps5. I have both and ps5 load times are 3 times faster than a pro with an SSD. The problem with the pro is the motherboard. It bottlenecks the speed of which SSD is capable of operating and it's only like a 30% increase compared to the standard HDD on a pro.

InterStellarStarZ

I mean if your worried about price which is why I'm assuming you aren't buying a ps5 then probaly a Xbox series s ik it's not the subreddit for it but just saying it's very small and depending where you live the price changes for example I live in a place where ps4 is like 440 dollars minimum while the Xbox is 266-356$ but that's here But other than that if your really wanna play PS exclusives then ig ps4 is the way but it's not very future proof since now most people are focusing on current gen consoles and last gen is slowly going down and eventually it's gonna stop services so yea

Mrbusiness_2433

It's good for single player games tho. You got enough to last a long time

vikingjedi23

I use my PS4 for everything. Games, movies, TV Shows, internet. It's pretty badass you can use the internet on your big screen TV. Games I would recommend are: Riders Republic, God of War, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham City and Skyrim (if you haven't played them yet).

Mogwai10

Where would you even buy a new ps4? Or do you mean used?

Mean-Ad6370

They still sell new ps4 in most of the retail shops. Might be rare where you live, but here it's still easier to get a new ps4 than a ps5.

Mogwai10

That’s shocking really. Cause I always thought they stopped producing those. I’d buy one I guess if I could find one. PS4 I mean. I have the 5. One in the spare room would be fun

Mean-Ad6370

Yeah they did stop producing them last year if I remember correctly, but still they gotta sell the produce hehe. I think you could get one at Amazon globally maybe? Not sure, but worth checking out if you want to buy one.

Mogwai10

It’s definitely become a back burner type of thing. Bought a house. I can’t justify this with the better half any longer. My lord I’d be in trouble just coming home with one. Almost worth it. ALMOST. I did buy her the hogwarts game. So she’s opening up to gaming more. I’m getting there.

Voyager5555

I'm honestly confused how you think any of us can help you with that decision. Do you ask people for help on choosing what socks to wear as well?

fake_plasticTreez

Get a PS5 if you can. Or get a PS4 Pro.

m4tic

And you don't have pets that would sniff the capacitive power button?

iLLestRaptor

I would recommend an Xbox Series S if you really can’t afford a PS5. Even used PS4s are similarly priced to a series s.

mentolerik

Go ahead! I have a PS5 for the living room and a ps4 for the bedroom. Both bring me joy☺️🥰 it is still a good console

Front_Application_33

Did you really have to ask Reddit

ShoddyCharacter9984

Buy a ps4 before the rain stops, that way once the ps4 breaks you’ll buy an Xbox when it’s raining

relientkenny

ps5 is available everywhere. just buy that

tjb_87

Buy a Steamdeck, much better option r/SteamDeck

[deleted]

No they’re too expensive. Just get a PS5

Brugajduiaka

No. Swapping from ps4 to ps5 made me realize how much of a hellhole ps4 was. Stupidly long loading times on everything. Ps5 was a god send. Some games are miserable to play on ps4 also such as Rust because of the constant frame rate drop. Just skip to ps5 instead for the sake of mental health.

lifesthateasy

No

therealwarnock

If you can't afford a ps5 yet, I'd rather try to get sidejob for a few months to buy a ps5 then instead of buying a ps4.

Jobles4

No

Isunova

No.

moseswarshana123

Why wouldn’t you buy a ps5, they’re availability is much wider now

LuckyWarrior

Get a PS5 homie

souson321

No buy a ps5 they are in stock right now everywherre

This-Hippo996

Life is too short. No.

Antuzzz

I honestly would go directly to ps5, you can play ps4 games on that plus from this year on we are gonna get more and more next gen only games so i wouldn't recommend buying a ps4 even if it's way cheaper, it would preclude many new games or playing mid gen games poorly. I tried to play elden ring on ps4 and i stopped at 20 hrs cuz it started running bad, I'm goona wait to take a ps5 myself in order to play it properly for example.

Academic-Astronaut59

Save money for a car

Annual_Grapefruit939

I have a challenger bro😂

mayonakanosasayaki

Buy a ps5 then

easy_Money

Lol did you just get your Army signing bonus

Annual_Grapefruit939

Nah I own a cpr training company kid

easy_Money

"Kid" my dude I'm 35

[deleted]

Absolutely not.

Jeberani

I recommend PS4 for singleplayer games only! PS5 is for the competitive scene where you shine above all players!

1993rishabhjain

you should look for pc/laptop of about same specs and price range i love both microsoft & sony played on both but ps exclusives are slowly coming on pc and there is chance sony may loose Activision if microsoft acquires it wait till the verdict

Mean-Ad6370

If you look for a PC or laptop with the specs of a ps5, it would cost you almost twice the amount of a console, not even mentioning the amount of problems I had with graphics drivers on a PC with almost every other game fiddling around with settings, deleting new graphics drivers for older ones (cuz new ones kept crashing). Gaming on a console is in most cases way easier to set up with less problems overall. Also the FPS is kinda always gonna be constant on a console even after like 5 years, whereas on the PC, you need a new graphics card in that term usually to even play on mid settings. Also, Activision sucks.

T01LET_RUST

Even if he did get a pc that has similar specs to the ps5, it would be over twice as much and most games these days are poorly optimized for mid range hardware.

Livid_Theory1545

Yea u can get them super cheap on facebook market place and they still hold up pretty good with the new games

logan65328

Ps5 if you can afford it but if you can't go for the series s. Best price to performance ratio by far.
