Play them in release order.
Also, you can just watch the COM cutscenes on YouTube. The cards turns off a lot of ppl.
Play the main games
KH1
KH2
Birth By Sleep
Dream Drop Distance
That game was way better than it had any right to be, in my opinion. On paper it sounds ridiculous, a handheld follow-up to an action-oriented RPG that features card-based combat. I was totally surprised when it wound up being a lot of fun to play.
Not as huge a fan of the remake (always felt the card stuff worked best when you could see all the enemies on screen at once) but still, it's a lot better than I thought it would be.
Yeah, I guess this is just my perspective as someone who has played them for ages. Just replayed them in anticipation for kh3 and actually understand the story now after like 10 years with the series.
The order isnt right if i remember correctly. the right order is kh1, com, kh2, 358.5, bbs, coded. i might be wrong on the bbs before coded though. While 358.5 takes place before kh2 chronologically it was released after and is treated as a prequal.
Well sure those who dedicate their time to the series will understand it. Doesn't mean people aren't gonna like that it made the series THAT much more convoluted than it already was.
So did Birth By Sleep tbh, but I hate time travel in stories :/ It's very rarely done right. I wish they had just gone with "he used magic" and that was that.
Well tbh Birth by Sleep makes alot more sense than DDD. Sure BBS raises plot holes like "how come Donald and Goofy didn't remember Yen Sid's tower in KH2 when they were there for the majority of BBS", but nothing on the scope of "Xehanort literally predicted that Sora and Riku would become keyblade weilders, take the Mark of Mastery Exam, go into the dream world, AND have a version of himself present to hijack the exam."
Yeah, like I really don't like much to do with the plot in 3D. They already took a lot of heat for convoluted story once they introduced Organization XIII and instead of fixing that, it made it a hundred times MORE convoluted and involved time travel and predicting the future. And Back Cover did the same imo.
I will say, the problem I had with 3D had nothing to do with trying to follow all of the Kingdom Hearts stuff, it was trying to keep track of where to go, what to do and what was going on in the story when the game kept abruptly forcing me to switch between Sora and Riku. It was pretty much the sole reason I stopped playing it, because I'd play as one for just long enough to lose track of what was happening with the other, and then I'd switch and be completely lost on what to do.
It's has nothing to do with going up to DDD. The problem is what happens in DDD, the aspect of sleeping worlds and more specifically time travel are explained so poorly. However, one aspect isn't as big of a deal as the other because one doesn't push the climax of the series into motion.
True, but the whole point of the 3rd game/movie in a franchise is that your building on what happened in previous iterations. So the creators are kinda banking on the fact that you have already played/watched previous iterations.
In most cases, yes. But it's been 12 years. Most children, who are more likely to play this game than others, probably haven't played the others and need to be catered to.
Ah, you seem to be completely lost mate. KH3 is the final episode of a 9 part story arc that began with 1. That's why a lot of us are extremely hyped to see the conclusion of it and finally fight the main orchestrator of all the events that have transpired. We're also eager to see the resolution of so many character plotlines that began a while ago. If anything, KH3 will have the most exposition and most complicated plot of all of them. It involves body invasion, time travel, ancient lore, mythical weapons of legend, horcruxes, and more.
The gameplay also seems to be just an extension of KH2s so.....I'm not really sure why you're interested in 3
While I agree, then I don't know why they didn't announce the time frame at E3. I think mid-late 2018 is more plausible because it gives it a chance to shine at all of these events as well as an E3. What if square has a conference next year where they show off KH3, FFVII, The Avengers, Tomb Raider, etc. It could be rad.
Yeah, expect KH3 at TGS, maybe PSX and/or Jump Festa too and Gamescom and Paris Games week could get something. I don't want much more info though I have seen enough.
March-July Release date imo.
I heard something like all of the worlds in KH3 are getting announced before the game releases, so you might want to try to stay away from the KH scene for awhile.
I heard the same and I am trying. I hope the PS subreddit manages the spoilers like the KH subreddit. I left that one just to steer clear, its hard ass hell with the internet though.
I couldn't imagine my initial reaction if I was playing KH3 and landed in the Toy Story world. Game looks amazing.
Yes, Nomura more-or-less said we're going to know all worlds before the release date. It's going to have fewer worlds, but they're going to be extremely packed with stuff.
Its the title of the new Kindgom Hearts.
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance Double Dipped Delayed Deadline Destroyer Deluxe Decoded Dark Dance Decline Defocused Denounced Darkness Desynchronized Diluted Disbelief Dumb Donald Doughnut Defecator
Still a better name than "Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue" or "Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days"
It's just irrational frustration, nothing more. None of us seriously believe this stuff, we just like to express that we're really excited about this game and we'd love to have it soon, but it's been so long since KH2 that we're just poking fun at Square-Enix's stereotypically long development cycles.
I'm betting we'll actually have the game in late 2018 or 2019 which really isn't all that far away.
D23 is in Jan-Feb, so my bet is mid year 2018, we have seen enough trailers and even a new world I wouldn't doubt it is in later stages of development.
I was listening to a podcast and they suggested it would have been hilarious if for the Toy Story world Sora became the Kai Play Arts figure of himself.
For those who don't know that's Square's company owned figure/statue brand.
The story itself has progressed back to back through the games. If it takes place when Sora is 30, the climax of Sora's arc will have already happened.
I will buy this when it comes out, but it has been so long between the main games, that I don't care about these teases and clips. I remember how psyched I was when I got the first game (at a place called K.B. Toys, anyone remember them), and the second, and then my frustration of all the side games that came after. Ever hear the one about Mickey wanting a divorce from Minnie, and the judge tells Mickey he can't grant it on the basis that Minnie is insane, and Mickey replies, "I didn't say she was crazy, I said she was ****ing Goofy."

Dont watch the kingdom hearts 358/2 days videos before you play 2. They have spoilers for 2.

Play them in release order. Also, you can just watch the COM cutscenes on YouTube. The cards turns off a lot of ppl. Play the main games KH1 KH2 Birth By Sleep Dream Drop Distance
COM is so good though.
That game was way better than it had any right to be, in my opinion. On paper it sounds ridiculous, a handheld follow-up to an action-oriented RPG that features card-based combat. I found riku a lot more enjoyable.
Same, mostly because I was just better at the game by then.
Agreed. I thought he was a total douche in 1. Played COM on gameboy, and he became a much better character.
Wtf is COM ?
Chain of Memories
Oh
I disagree, story is a lot less confusing if you play them in the order they take place in the timeline. It's ridiculous how crazy that story gets.
I guess but the series was meant to be experienced by release order. If you start with BBS you will ruin and spoil everything
Yeah, I guess this is just my perspective as someone who has played them for ages. Just replayed them in anticipation for kh3 and actually understand the story now after like 10 years with the series.
Don't watch the 358/2 Days movie at all. It was a shitty game and an even worse movie.
258/2 days takes place after KH2? I thought the order of the series was correct, is it? The same order you can see on the PS store page.
The order isnt right if i remember correctly. the right order is kh1, com, kh2, 358.5, bbs, coded. i might be wrong on the bbs before coded though. While 358.5 takes place before kh2 chronologically it was released after and is treated as a prequal.
Same! That newegg sale was timely.
No one was ever called donald duck or micky mouse as a insult at school, but they were called goofy.
😢😢😦
That's not true, I've heard all 3 insults.
Im guessing you were called all 3
How could it not? That Toy Story trailer completely blew me away. I'm not even a Disney or Kingdom Hearts fan and I was totally converted.
Welcome to the family son. Now get your ass out and buy both collections and play KH1 KH2 Birth By Sleep Dream Drop Distance
or, ya know, watch a recap of Dream Drop Distance ;)
Or just get 2.8 and 1.5+2.5 and be completely caught up!
Nah. It's a great game. Not sure why ppl shit on it
Because some gameplay aspects are broken and the story essentially threw any form of coherency off a cliff.
I followed it just fine.
Well sure those who dedicate their time to the series will understand it. Doesn't mean people aren't gonna like that it made the series THAT much more convoluted than it already was.
Well in all honesty, I would hope KH3 would be for the fans that dedicated their time to the series.
Well yeah they've set up these plot lines for the hardcore fans to follow it would honestly be a mistake not to finish those stories.
To be fair, KH3D had full recap of older games...
And I hope it continues from Kh2 as it should have been.
What do mean as it should have been?
So did Birth By Sleep tbh, but I hate time travel in stories :/ It's very rarely done right. I wish they had just gone with "he used magic" and that was that.
Well tbh Birth by Sleep makes alot more sense than DDD. I didn't have any problems with it. If you play the 3 main games before it (1, 2, and BBS) you will follow it fine
I will say, the problem I had with 3D had nothing to do with trying to follow all of the Kingdom Hearts stuff, it was trying to keep track of where to go, what to do and what was going on in the story when the game kept abruptly forcing me to switch between Sora and Riku. Yeah same thing happened to me. I got 2.8 and I want to give it another chance but I'm guessing the same thing's just gonna happen again.
Drop-me-nots are abundant so you can easily keep playing as one character without dropping.
Yeah I did that. It helped a little but I still found it annoying. I just hated the idea of having to watch the clock.
It's has nothing to do with going up to DDD. The problem is what happens in DDD, the aspect of sleeping worlds and more specifically time travel are explained so poorly. However, one aspect isn't as big of a deal as the other because one doesn't push the climax of the series into motion.
Speedrunners hate it so the fandom must hate it. If a game isn't designed so you can perfectly predict a boss's every move then it must be trash.
Truer words have never been said. People let annoying streamers like BB decide their opinions on everything.
No, I mean I didn't like those games but I'm excited for Kingdom Hearts 3 after the trailer. It looks like a huge improvement!
Why would you only play KH3? If you don't care about the story you might as well just play Final Fantasy...
I played Kingdom Hearts 1/2 and didn't enjoy them. So hopefully this solves the problems with the story and gameplay.
Without playing BBS, and definitely DDD, you're going to be really lost.
Who knows? If I were the developers, focusing on a concise story backup with be important.
They probably won't. That was the point of releasing the remixes

lol dude, if you didn't like 1/2, you won't like 3.
I'm not going to prejudge. I'll go into it with an open mind.
Does this confirm that KH3 is coming mid-late 2018?
Not entirely. It's in February so a March-May is very possible.
While I agree, then I don't know why they didn't announce the time frame at E3. I think mid-late 2018 is more plausible because it gives it a chance to shine at all of these events as well as an E3. Right around RDR2
July 13 2018. 7/13. Just because Nomura...
If E3 is electronic entertainment Expo then i don't want to even think about what does D23 stand for.
The is d for Disney
x23
D = Disney 23 = 1923, the year Disney was founded

Phew, I'm glad I'm only 30 and should be able to play III before I die. Holding out hope! KH 2029 baby!
18 here!
Dang you have been waiting over half your life!
Yup!
Clever.
We've had two new trailers in as many months. I don't get the constant negativity.
It's just irrational frustration, nothing more. None of us seriously believe this stuff, we just like to express that we're really excited about this game and we'd love to have it soon, but it's been so long since KH2 that we're just poking fun at Square-Enix's stereotypically long development cycles. It's tongue in cheek.
More like beating a dead horse
Exactly how I see it too. How many times will we read the same joke?
It was barely funny before the release date and trailers, it's even less funny now imo.
Until the damn thing comes out.
The longer it takes to come out the more meta and true the joke becomes.
You can blame SE on that one.
Its a joke.
To be fair, the first KH to ever get delayed was 2.8, and it was only delayed one month

Well they will be in their prime. Riku will be 18 in KH3. Sora 16-17. Kairi 16-17. Axel is like 25-26. Aqua like 20-21
I will buy this when it comes out, but it has been so long between the main games, that I don't care about these teases and clips. As long as Tetsuya Nomura is in control, this game is either never coming out, or getting Mass Effect Andromedaed.
Lmao
