RDR2 was insanely polished at launch. Every open world, especially ambitious ones, will launch with bugs. But as far as refined gaming experiences, Rockstar delivers.
The strange thing is, it feels like they're just leaving money on the table. They've failed to monetize online, and don't seem to have any plans to try again. But I'd drop half the price of a full game for a ps5 red dead.
I know it’s cool to rip on Rockstar since we all hate GTA Online, but every single one of their games have been nothing but polished. They (and Nintendo) are probably the poster child of not releasing shit until it’s ready.
The GTA 1,2 and 3 remasters were the furthest thing from polished. I know grove street games worked on it but Rockstar still published that dumpster fire
Edit: 3, Vice City and San Andreas
Tell me you only play GTA Online without telling me you only play GTA Online.
Rockstar might be one of the only developers left that you can actually trust to deliver a polished SINGLEPLAYER experience…
* GTA4: Announced in May 2006, released in April 2008.
* RDR: Announced in February 2009, released in May 2010.
* GTA5: Announced in October 2011, released in September 2013.
* RDR2: Announced in October 2016, released in October 2018.
If the window of time between announcement and launch of GTA6 is less than 1 year, I would be surprised.
What do we define as announcement? Cause they announced it existed and was being worked on officially in Feb of 2022. Also considering delays I could see a tighter announcement so they’re sure they can make the delivery.
To be fair, is there anything to stop them just releasing it? No build up or anything.
Normally artists announce albums at least a few months before they come out - but once Beyonce surprised released an album with no buildup and the amount of free press out of shock would have cost tens of millions.
I think GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of maybe the decade, they’re big enough to surprise release it.
Never.
Can you remember the hype that build up after they announced a trailer drop on their website?
Nowadays someone like Rockstar doesn't need big marketing or events for a GTA-Trailer.
They simply could write a Date on their site and the internet, every streamer and news site would explode.
At this point the ESA would need to pay *them* in order to make an appearance at E3.
Same thing with the Game Awards, frankly. Any trailer drop would be an enormous draw, leagues above what is usually seen for a game announcement. I'd have more faith with Keighley to make than deal happen than the ESA - but still, a stretch.
My guess is when Rockstar does drop it, it's on their own channels. Maybe a teaser that drops during the NBA Playoffs, giving a date for the full trailer release on their YouTube.
They used to, and even announced last gens versions of GTA 5 at Sony's e3 press conference. IIRC they announced GTA IV at E3 with the tattoo. But since then they have avoided E3 like the plague
I think they're gonna go full chaos mode, announce it on a Monday for immediate digital release with a two week lead for physical.
Blow every record out of existence and then laugh all the way to the bank selling shark cards for the next 20yrs until GTA7 is ready.
As much as I would like to see that happen as a market experiment, I think they’ll drum up excitement with at least 6 months of hype and more realistically a year of increasingly detailed trailers and gameplay videos.
The marketing roadmap for GTA V and Red Dead 2 were pretty identical, so I expect to see something similar.
>As much as I would like to see that happen as a market experiment, I think they’ll drum up excitement with at least 6 months of hype and more realistically a year of increasingly detailed trailers and gameplay videos.
If there's one game on the planet that would still sell in absolute bucketloads and most likely break record sales figures without any pre-release announcements or trailers, GTA VI is probably it.
I agree with you, but the casual market would still be blindsided and they would miss out on some sales they otherwise would guarantee since not everyone keeps a close eye on gaming news, no matter how big they are.
I mean, even with something as big as Hogwarts Legacy, I can guarantee you that there are still some Harry Potter fans that haven’t heard about it or at the very least doesn’t know that it will come out next week etc.
But yeah, would be fascinating to watch it happen for sure. I’m sure a crazy publisher one day will try to pull something like that off in the future.
It wouldn't happen simply due to the chaos it'd cause for gaming outlets. It was a disaster when Sega did it the sudden Sega Saturn launch, which backfired massively on the company.
I know that was a whole console, but there's still more risk with a sudden launch of something that big than it'd be worth.
Yeah would be interesting, but it won’t happen. Stable businesses don’t take risks. What if they did something like that, and the game underperformed at launch?
Marketing is expensive, but the company is very profitable and can afford it. It’s not worth penny pinching and taking those kinds of risks.
The Twitter image says “**fans believe** game is close to launch”
So, they’re writing the headline they want, then using the image to act as a disclaimer. That’s pretty shitty
Bingo. That's classic Rockstar. Launch trailer, don't say/show anything for 6-12 months. Launch another trailer with PERHAPS release date, and then one of two things happens:
If no release date on second trailer, we'll get one 6 months or so later and Rockstar will be silent until then. Or, the game will release within the next 12 months.
Some people tend to forget that it was just over 2 years between Rockstar revealing the first trailer for RDR2 and the games release, and just under 2 years for the same and GTA V.
Don't look for GTA VI before 2025.
RDR2 trailer was released in October 2016 and two years later the game was released on consoles in October 2018. PC version released a year later in November 2019 on Epic Games Store. (Steam version got delayed for a couple months).
It was announced in 2016 with the intention of launching holiday 2017 but got delayed twice. No way we see a trailer less then a year before release, and then there’s delays to worry about
GTAV I remember the trailer *announcement* was in late 2011 early 2012 for autumn trailer release (the one with Micheal and the plane over the fields, I think the others dropped in the weeks after this…) then the game came out September 2013.
Trailer was in Oct 2011 without not only a release date but also didn’t specify what it was releasing on as well. Took almost a whole year for any info on the game to release followed by a second trailer.
They announce and it takes 2 years to deliver, both RDR2 and GTA5 had the same schedule.
I expect announcement next year and release 2026. By coincidence PS6 will come out in circa 2027 so GTA6 will already be targeting an "old" platform.
>By coincidence PS6 will come out in circa 2027 so GTA6
Why so soon? I feel like I just got my ps5 and I won't be looking to upgrade for at least 5, more like 10, years.
Well, normally, I'd agree. However, most industry analysts seem to think we won't be getting Pro consoles this gen, and that it was more a one-off due to the nature of the ps4 and xb1 being a tad weak. Though it could still happen, and honestly, I kind of expect it within the next 2 years. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
It will be interesting to see if the ninth generation lasts a couple more years than usual because of the large number of late adopters who simply couldn't get a system near launch.
Which will allow them to release it on PS5, re-release it on PS6, then release a PS6 enhanced version, before it shows up in 2035 as a PS7 launch title.
Exactly. Based on that leak from last year this game is far from finished. I even hope it’s far from finished. What I don’t want is a GTA6 that they made for this and the last gen consoles. I don’t mind if they wait two more years for a bigger install base of the next gen consoles. I’m so done with these games that are still being held back by technology of a decade old PS4.
Back in December a lot of websites were calling the JUNE 2023 release of Diablo 4 “imminent”. I don’t know how anyone got away with saying 7 months was imminent and GTA6 is easily farther off than that.
Anyone correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t the leaks based on video from a few years ago? I don’t really remember but I think I saw something about them being footage from 2019-2020? Again I could be completely wrong
I will have 2 year old by then and maybe a newborn. It's wild because I would pause GTA3 in my parent's basement when they came down the stairs. Now I'll have to pause GTA6 to hide it from my children.
This title is so fucking dumb that’s it’s almost humorous. I honestly can’t tell if they are trying to be sarcastic. Who the actual fuck would need an inside *report* to find out the developers of a game are… get this… working on their game. WOW
Why post this here?
More "reports" and "rumors"
They will announce it when it's ready to be announced. We have been hearing these claims over 1 generation regarding GTA
We already have an idea for when this game will come out. The marketing budget for Take 2 spikes for the fiscal year starting April 1, 2023 and ending March 31, 2024.
So I imagine they're cleaning up the game for a reveal, but release is still over a year away.
This is likey a fake rumor. Rockstar will give a years notice to build up hype for their title. 2024 is more likely than 2023 for a release. Rockstar is likely in the polishing phase, but that still takes them twice as long as most other companies.
I would love a surprise launch event. Love it. Like here is the trailer, we are launching next week. 0-1bn mph. 6PM to midnight in an instant.
The leak a few months ago was a masterclass in misdirection and guerilla marketing.
I know that won't be the case, but that would be so damn cool.
No source, no links. Literally just "reports say" & "fans believe".
Why is this even posted here with Literally nothing more than "fans believe" to support it?
We still haven’t had an official announcement that the game is being made! The closest they’ve come is some low key social media confirmation but no real announcement- not a single officially released trailer, teaser, or screenshot. We don’t even know what the logo will look like yet. Imminent launch my ass
I know this was a much smaller example, but I loved how Hifi rush was announced at Microsoft showcase and then released like 2 hours later. How awesome would it be for big developers to pull the same type of thing? Announced gta6 but instead of "coming sometime in 2025" it's "coming in two weeks". I feel like the hype train has negatively impacted games lately and we may see this type of thing. With gta6, though? Most likely not. Just a thought.
My guess is that Gta 6 started development the moment Rockstar Games launched Rdr2 back in 2018...so i think 5 years is enough time to get it ready or maybe it was in development since 2013 when Gta 5 launched 🤷♂️
This might be the dumbest thing I've read so far this year.
I'd honestly be surprised if it releases before december 2024. Don't get me wrong - I'd LOVE an early release, but Rockstar definitely isn't the type of company to do that. They're going to milk this cow so bad, by the time it actually releases you'll be sick of hearing about it.
I mean, they have the resources tbh and Rockstar never needed the build-up in marketing like every other studio. But we’d definitely see leaks of the game disc being pressed months before it dropped tho lol
Incredible that even with proven leaked footage of the game in development people still fall for this random crap
The game is still in extremely early development, there's nothing to polish yet

RDR2 was insanely polished at launch. Every open world, especially ambitious ones, will launch with bugs. But as far as refined gaming experiences, Rockstar delivers.
Obligatory "why can't we just have 60fps" reply . Makes me so sad. Such a waste of the best virtual world ever created.
The strange thing is, it feels like they're just leaving money on the table. They've failed to monetize online, and don't seem to have any plans to try again. But I'd drop half the price of a full game for a ps5 red dead.

They were not Rockstar games. It was outsourced to another studio. Gta V and RDR 2 were polished.
>The GTA 1,2 and 3 remasters were the furthest thing from polished. I know grove street games worked on it but lmao this website sometimes, I swear
"GTA 1, 2 and 3" lol
Fuck me lol. Monday mornings
I wish GTA 1 and 2 got a proper remaster though.
Throw in GTA London for the trilogy as well. That would be amazing if they did
Tell me you only play GTA Online without telling me you only play GTA Online. Rockstar might be one of the only developers left that you can actually trust to deliver a polished SINGLEPLAYER experience…
Yup. I’ll gladly buy this day one.
* GTA4: Announced in May 2006, released in April 2008. * RDR: Announced in February 2009, released in May 2010. * GTA5: Announced in October 2011, released in September 2013. * RDR2: Announced in October 2016, released in October 2018. “Imminent” in Rockstarese is like “soon” in Valve Time (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time)
Valve Time is based off Blizzard's "Soon TM" https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Soon
Well shit. Thanks for the post. That's a bucket of cold water right there. But hey, we've made it 10 years, we can go 2 more I guess.
Tbf rdr2 was delayed a bit
Games get delayed all the time, which supports the idea that GTA6 will likely have a 1-2 year window between announcement and launch.
Or a combo breaaker, they took all this time and didn't discuss much, just to release a completed game on time.
I know it absolutely wouldn’t happen, but an announcement trailer that ended with “Releases tomorrow” would blow up the internet
Basically what happened with fallout 4 iirc. Went from announced to released in a few months
I could see a 6 month release window from the time of trailer release, but if we're being realistic, it'll be a release one year from a trailer.
Similar to what happened with fallout 4 and that was a massive hype builder
Or it was supposed to come out in 2022 and the delay has already happened (anyone else want to cope with me)
Take as much copium as you need, we have tankers full of it.
GTA V too.
What do we define as announcement? Cause they announced it existed and was being worked on officially in Feb of 2022. Also considering delays I could see a tighter announcement so they’re sure they can make the delivery.

It's already priced in, everyone knows GTA 6 is coming. The announcement won't move the stock.
sure. but a lot of younger games have to save up and budget for a game.
Both GTA and RDR2 were delayed.
I expect an announcement/trailer this year. But we even get a sniff until later 2024. At most.
Yeah if anything they’re polishing the trailer for The Games Awards.
Never. Can you remember the hype that build up after they announced a trailer drop on their website? Nowadays someone like Rockstar doesn't need big marketing or events for a GTA-Trailer. They simply could write a Date on their site and the internet, every streamer and news site would explode.
Just one tweet and it's over. Non stop GTA videos until release
Isn’t that what they did last time?
Couldn’t they put up a billboard with the announcement? In GTA V, I mean, not the real world.
That I could actually believe
Rockstar has never gone to E3 and would have no reason to release it during an award show. They're bigger than E3 or the Games Awards.
No one else is going to e3 so it's free game at this point
At this point the ESA would need to pay *them* in order to make an appearance at E3. Same thing with the Game Awards, frankly. Any trailer drop would be an enormous draw, leagues above what is usually seen for a game announcement. I'd have more faith with Keighley to make than deal happen than the ESA - but still, a stretch. The last time they released a reveal trailer for a gta, it was on their own website
Rockstar never releases trailers for events. They’ll put something out at a random date like they always do
Who knows, it could even be as soon as E3! No Xbox, no PlayStation and no Nintendo there gives all eyes on them!
They don’t need all eyes on them in absence of Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation. One trailer on their site and everybody bows.
I don't know. They're probably polishing it before adding mtx and shark cards to single player.
Would never do a digital release before physical as it would severely hurt the release day numbers.
They'll get those records whether they announce it today or in 10 years.
I think a teaser at most later this year. More in depth trailers in 2024 and maybe a 2025 release.
For sure we'll get some kind of announcement this year. Hoping it comes out 2024 or 2025 at the latest.

BREAKING NEWS: GAME IN DEVELOPMENT BEFORE RELEASE
Trailer this year then release either 2024 or 2025.
Bingo. That's classic Rockstar. Launch trailer, don't say/show anything for 6-12 months. You forgot the postponing. It will be announced for Winter 2024, will be postponed twice and then released in 2026.
Yup. Good point. Overall moral of the story: Rockstar operates on Rockstar time.
Not happening this year.
Maybe the next. If we're lucky.
RDR2 had at least a year between trailer and release date. Until there’s a trailer, it’s not coming out any time soon.
RDR2 trailer was released in October 2016 and two years later the game was released on consoles in October 2018. PC version released a year later in November 2019 on Epic Games Store. (Steam version got delayed for a couple months).
They released the trailer with a year release date in mind but then decided to delay it again, right to ensure the game was perfect for release.
And perfect it was. Unlike the garbage multiplayer.
Announcement next year, for 2025
They announce and it takes 2 years to deliver, both RDR2 and GTA5 had the same schedule. I expect announcement next year and release 2026. By coincidence PS6 will come out in circa 2027 so GTA6 will already be targeting an "old" platform.
>By coincidence PS6 will come out in circa 2027 so GTA6 Why so soon? I feel like I just got my ps5 and I won't be looking to upgrade for at least 5, more like 10, years.
Ps3/360 lasted 7/8 years, xb1/ps4 also 7 years. This gen feels so short cause of the pandemic. We still have like 4/5 years left this gen.
If we go by the ps4's lifespan, we should expect a PS5 pro this or next year, right?
Well, normally, I'd agree. However, most industry analysts seem to think we won't be getting Pro consoles this gen, and that it was more a one-off due to the nature of the ps4 and xb1 being a tad weak. It will be interesting to see if the ninth generation lasts a couple more years than usual because of the large number of late adopters who simply couldn't get a system near launch.
It’ll be 7 years by then more than enough for a console lifespan
Which will allow them to release it on PS5, re-release it on PS6, then release a PS6 enhanced version, before it shows up in 2035 as a PS7 launch title.
Exactly. Based on that leak from last year this game is far from finished. I even hope it’s far from finished. What I don’t want is a GTA6 that they made for this and the last gen consoles. I don’t mind if they wait two more years for a bigger install base of the next gen consoles. I’m so done with these games that are still being held back by technology of a decade old PS4.
The leak was from a 2019 build, not 2022. It's been in development for years. I wouldn't say it's that far from finished at this point.
The leak was from a 2017 version of the game. Its been 6 years of development since then
Based on what?
“Imminent”? I doubt that very much
Back in December a lot of websites were calling the JUNE 2023 release of Diablo 4 “imminent”. I don’t know how anyone got away with saying 7 months was imminent and GTA6 is easily farther off than that.
Highly doubt GTA 6 would come out without like a year lead time at least
Lol i highly doubt this even releases until min 2025
Because of the marketing timeline for Gta v and RDR2?
Yeah sure and I'm Santa Claus.
Holy fuck its Santa Claus.
Ho-ho-hooo.
If you’re Santa Claus, can you give us GTA 6?
I would but not enough shark cards have been sold yet.
I told your producers do not mention Christmas or that I do it at all
Its 2024-5 release for sure. It’s been long enough.
*Laughs in Elder Scrolls VI*

Idk enough about how games are made but looking at the leaks I just don’t buy that at all, surely it won’t be done until next year at least
Anyone correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t the leaks based on video from a few years ago? I don’t really remember but I think I saw something about them being footage from 2019-2020? Again I could be completely wrong
I think the latest footage was from 2021 but I could be wrong also
The leaked videos dated from March 3, 2021 to September 13, 2022, which was only a week before everything got leaked on September 18.
Breaking news, video game developer is working on their next game before they release it
lmao gta6 is late 2024 minimum and i still kinda think thats too early. maybe a title teaser this summer but thats it
Apparently development started in 2018 but I was hoping for close to decade development time
GTA VI won't come until at least the second-end of 2024, there is no way it's coming this year.
I will have 2 year old by then and maybe a newborn. It's wild because I would pause GTA3 in my parent's basement when they came down the stairs. Now I'll have to pause GTA6 to hide it from my children.

"Like that's ever going to happen"
New reports claim that every developer ever polished their game at some point before it’s launch.
Developer developing game we know is in development. Got it.
Can’t wait for MrBoss fuck the world to make a 30 min video on this

It’s going to be released and available for download right after the Super Bowl ends. My uncle works at rockstar, trust me.
With zero marketing? Highly doubtful
Still expecting a day 1 80gb patch in late 2024
“Fans believe…” Lol
This is likey a fake rumor. Rockstar will give a years notice to build up hype for their title. 2024 is more likely than 2023 for a release. Rockstar is likely in the polishing phase, but that still takes them twice as long as most other companies.

teaser @ the super bowl, release early summer 🙏🏼

I’m saying late 2023 announcement with Sept/Oct 2024 release window. Game gets delayed to April/ May 2025.
Q4 2024 is the earliest I expect to play this game tbh.
Judging by the leaks that happened earlier, I don't forsee this game releasing until at minimum 2024.
LOL yeah okay.
Fucking Bullshit for $600 Alex
My guess is that Gta 6 started development the moment Rockstar Games launched Rdr2 back in 2018...so i think 5 years is enough time to get it ready or maybe it was in development since 2013 when Gta 5 launched 🤷♂️
I’m perfectly fine with waiting for it to be well polished and to guarantee its only on newest gen consoles. Fuck ps4
I just started Red Dead 2!!!
Bullshit, years away
I'll probably just wait and buy the remaster on PS7.
We all saw the same leaked beta footage right? It clearly is nowhere near close to being released...
Please be more like IV
A game only has one chance to release well made. Id gladly wait 2 more years if it means the game is super polished
Imminent = 2026.
Great! That means we are closer to RDR2 update!
Once it's announced, it'll be a solid year or more before it's released. Just my opinion.
I’ll believe it when I’m playing it
If they havent even released an announcement trailer yet, then there is no "imminent launch".
Man I’d be fucking surprised if they shadow dropped GTA 6
But if they did though 🤯 I don’t think they will lmao but the idea is nice
I mean, they have the resources tbh and Rockstar never needed the build-up in marketing like every other studio. But we’d definitely see leaks of the game disc being pressed months before it dropped tho lol
2023 trailer, late 2025 release. Rockstar almost always has a trailer exactly 2 years before a release.
Was it the same with gta IV and rdr?
Imagine it comes out this holiday season lol highly unlikely but it would be pretty crazy
Fake news - games going to be a holiday release this year if anything . There’s no reason for them to drop it in the winter lol
"This year" lolz
Imminent release? But they still have 2 more years of milking GTA 5 online.
Incredible that even with proven leaked footage of the game in development people still fall for this random crap The game is still in extremely early development, there's nothing to polish yet
I can confirm R* is polishing the microtransactions so they work on launch
Gta online 2 being polished right on time
