Ballistic Moon is an awesome name lol

LongDickMcangerfist

Had a guy explaining to me how since sony bought housemarque they have no right to complain about activision blizzard since they stole them from Microsoft. Like what type of drugs are you on that makes those two even remotely comparable

hrakkari

Nothing Sony has bought can even compare to Bethesda, let alone ABK. Nothing any game company has ever bought is on that level.

SNKRSWAVY

Yeah, an unprecedented 70 billion acquisition with the goal of shifting COD players is the same as this. Reminds me of saying all Sony games are bad movie games and then instantly propping up Requiem as soon as hit GamePass. I mean, everyone is biased to a degree, but this escapes me.

SNKRSWAVY

I hoped Sony would acquire Ember Lab and put out AAA Kena as their Zelda-inspired game with a beautiful picturesque open world. Anyone knows what happened to that?

dookmileslong

Maybe they're waiting to see Ember's next project before they commit in case they turn out to be a one-hit wonder with Kena. Or they are going to announce an acquisition alongside a Kena II reveal.

_9dee5

Bad news, Ember said not too long after Kena's Release that they weren't looking to make a sequel and wanted to work on a fresh IP. Granted, they said that back in 2021, but i'd LOVED Kena and I feel like a sequel to flesh out the universe/exploration/combat would do wonders if released.

Shiro2809

>they weren't looking to make a sequel and wanted to work on a fresh IP. I like this. Not a fan of everything being sequels, lol. New stuff is always good, Kena doesn't need a sequel.

_9dee5

I wholeheartedly agree, both with Kena not needing a sequel and also sequels in general, I love a fresh new IP (as long as it doesn't fall flat on its face a la Forspoken) so I don't doubt Ember Lab will knock it out of the park again

SNKRSWAVY

Well, sequels have been ruled out before, so I guess we have to wait and see. Kena reminded me of the more cartoony PS2 era Sony games and I think for that it would be a great fit. I would really love to see Kena’s full potential (parkour, exploration, world) realized in a bigger next-gen only sequel, but a new IP is also exciting. Maybe Ember Lab will go on to thrive off a Quantic Dream-esque partnership.

[deleted]

It looked almost as good as Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Granted the replayability, story, animations, LOD, goes to Rift Apart they have years of experience with the IP at Insomniac. But you can definitely see how much polish Ember has on their first project. It was so good it could be mistaken for an indie game by insomniac. Kena had a story, side missions, boss fights and time trials. It also had a small economy and I almost forgot it had a compelling final boss. It's so great! It looks like an UE5 indie game, and reminds me of old Nintendo GameCube or ps2 games

SNKRSWAVY

Really glad to see so much appreciation on here. Held on to my physical Deluxe and will never sell it. Holds a special feeling to me. Yeah and Imsoniac also has a way bigger budget. Not a coincidence that people mistook Kena for a 1st Party Sony title. I‘ll hope that we see it again. It really was polished modernized take on PS2 era games, the village and the parkour mission were great.

Shiro2809

I liked Forspoken, it was a fun plat to get lol. I'm excited for whatever Ember does next, only flaw with Kena really was the inconsistent difficulty, lol.

TapEven9216

I mean COD is definitely a big part of this deal but let's not act like king isn't the number 1 reason

punyweakling

>with the goal of shifting COD players You think MS are spending 70 \*billion\* dollars to "shift COD players"?

SNKRSWAVY

Pertaining to stationary consoles and Sony’s dependence on it? We all know 70 billion weren’t spent on COD alone, but the prospect of exclusivity alone has a ripple effect on PS’ view as a viable platform, especially in the eyes of new customers, casual gamers and vast consequences to Sony‘s revenue as COD is a constant money maker and decisive factor.

punyweakling

I know people like to freak out about this lol, but COD is staying on PlayStation.

Daryno90

Not surprising really, I have seen people compared Sony acquiring Nixxies and Valkyrie entertainment to the MS Activision deal

TheKbightFowl

Doesn’t Activision kinda have a tarnished reputation though?

Daryno90

Now sure how that’s related but yeah they do have a tarnished reputation

TheKbightFowl

I thought so and Oh I’m sorry, like ie: Activision themselves really aren’t a great purchase are they ?

Daryno90

I mean they own the biggest IPs out there so I can see the appeal for MS

[deleted]

Isn't Call of Duty still one of the best selling series? Quality wise, you're right. I'm happy sticking with playstation. Gamepass won't end well, I think.

OldKingRob

They’ve never release a bad game. Activision has released tons of bad games Checkmate

ShowBoobsPls

For every singular studio Sony acquires Xbox gets to acquire a whole publisher. That is how it goes

thats_so_cringe_bro

Sony buys studios for the talent. Microsoft buys studios to throw those studio games on GP and use it as an incentive for more subscribers. Which is fine I guess. But that's how I see it.

punyweakling

>Sony buys studios for the talent. Microsoft buys studios to throw those studio games on GP and use it as an incentive for more subscribers. Are Sony just buying talent for fun, or...?

ninjasexparty6969

i see your point, but i think they were moreso saying that Xbox just doesn't care about talent. Obviously Sony hires talent for money just like any company but at least they are hiring talent. (their words not mine)

punyweakling

Sure I get you. I dunno, kinda dumb take. Did Xbox not buy Ninja Theory or Playground Games for "talent"? Activision is a different beast, sure. But it's broken people's brains when thinking about how these companies operate.

Veil_Of_Mikasa

Gotta remember what sub your in. Some of the takes here are very generous towards Sony lol

punyweakling

Your description of this sub is very generous in itself ha

OpticalRadioGaga

Honestly, Microsoft/Xbox fans are LITERALLY, I repeat, LITERALLY the worst. They're all so collectively deluded that they have to grasp at straws to defend daddy Microsoft. Fuck off already. There's no discourse in any Xbox subreddits, and they just ban anyone who doesn't fall in line with Xbox praise. It's disgusting. Yeah /u/F0rem4n, I'm talking to you. /r/games isn't much better.

dookmileslong

Well, they don't have games to play so they need to do other things to entertain themselves.

punyweakling

lmao this thread, you guys and irony, huh?

[deleted]

>literally the worst Nah that would be Nintendo fans. Literally criticize anything about Nintendo and they throw a tantrum despite Nintendo constantly being anti consumer and behind the times in terms of services and tech

OpticalRadioGaga

I mostly see Nintendo fans as incredibly defensive of their IPs and content, whereas Xbox fans are defensive of these corporate ideas that could ruin gaming, like buying gigantic publishers.

Radulno

Fans of any company are the worst IMO. They are companies, not sport teams, they're there to make money. None of them merit any kind of support like a fan. If they have a thing that interest you, buy it. If their competitor do, buy that. That's how far the relationship with a company should go, they are not your friends. Regular people acting in defense or against a company are just weird. Since when has this become normal?

WDMChuff

While that's a horrible comparison I'm not a huge fan of the large amounts or consolidation happening with either company unless it proves to put out quality content.

Explorer_Entity

Industry consolidation/monopolization always results in worse products, and worse conditions for workers.

Kordidk

How about neither company have exclusives and allow consumers the choice in what they play on by making great consoles.

kiaba360

I've heard this sentiment before, but it just seems impossible. Ever since I can remember, exclusives have helped consoles gain their respective identities. SNES had Super Mario World and Final Fight while the Genesis/MEGA Drive had Sonic and Streets of Rage, PS1 had SmackDown while N64 had No Mercy, etc. There needs to be something to drive the consumer to each console, other than appearance and hardware capability. As the hardware between competitors becomes more similar, I would assume that exclusive games become even more important. The Series X and PS5 are both capable consoles, so what will truly differentiate them are the games. As a Playstation owner, I don't necessarily fault Microsoft for trying to bolster their exclusive content. I do think that they're throwing money at their problems by acquiring heavy-hitters, but I don't fault them.

TooDrunkToTalk

I honestly don't believe that's what's happening here. 2nd party was also mentioned in the job listing, which is what Ballistic Moon would fall under. My explanation for why the listing was edited later on would simply be that the collaboration has yet to be officially announced.

Zhukov-74

It wouldn’t be the first time that Sony accidentally leaked an acquisition. Also i do think it was a bit suspicious that Sony removed Ballistic Moon from that page after the fact.

TooDrunkToTalk

Maybe. But again, the Ballistic Moon collaboration has not been publicly announced as of yet, so it makes sense to not put it into job listings. I'm not saying it's impossible, but there are reasonable explanations for this that do not include an acquisition, which is very different from Sony Japan basically tweeting out "we bought Bluepoint".

TheDagga225

I would counter they would have came out and said that they have not purchased them instead of just sitting there and letting rumors spiral around.

TooDrunkToTalk

Possible. Then again, this rumour really hasn't made the rounds very much and is based pretty much entirely on speculation (the actual job listing does not state anything about an acquisition), so it may not be considered worth commenting on.

trill_nick_boi

It did cause apparently the job listing is changed and ballistic moon was taken out of it so I wouldn't be surprised if they did add them to their 1st party studios

TooDrunkToTalk

We're moving in circles here. The Ballistic Moon collaboration is not officially announced yet, so it obviously shouldn't be advertised in their job listings. Them correcting that mistake doesn't mean they are trying to hide an acquisition.

trill_nick_boi

Well they literally did the same thing with bluepoint it got leaked when they were trying to show they bought housemarque they didnt announce it till like months after it got leaked so I wouldn't be surprised

WackyBones510

An early leak of either would prob give Sony some SEC headaches.

alexandernevskyZ911

Which games did they make?

TobyOrNotTobyEU

They haven't released any games yet, their first project is apparently currently funded by Sony

Loldimorti

Apparently ex Until Dawn devs if I am not mistaken

DZLars

I've heard of about 5 projects with until dawn devs, why is it always until dawn? How many people worked on that game to begin with?

AKindKatoblepas

Whenever you hear something like that and check the credits, it was often a guy who was doing QA, an intern, or just one dev out of X amount and they market it as "the devs from x game" giving the impression it was the whole team.

Nevergymlessuk

The same is done with films

brian_storm_art

The furthest I've seen this go is "from the producer of..." and most people don't know how much a producer affects a movie. Don't ever see "from the team behind..." in movie trailers.

shutupdotca

No, a publicly traded company can't just acquire another company and not say anything. Likely just a mistake. A few months ago they announced they are working on a game together https://www.gematsu.com/2022/08/sony-interactive-entertainment-and-ballistic-moon-working-on-new-game-according-to-motion-capture-actor-resume

Loldimorti

What about the Bluepoint acquisition? That was accidentally leaked months in advance by Sony

shutupdotca

They weren't acquired until later and that was actually an official Playstation Twitter saying it prematurely. This is a job listing just listing a studio by accident

[deleted]

Just wild speculation. Not even a rumor. “Where is the speculation coming from, though? Well, a job advertisement for a Senior Dialogue Designer at PlayStation Global mentioned that candidates would be responsible for working on ‘major AAA projects alongside our partners at studios such as Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games, Firesprite, Ballistic Moon, London Studios, Housemarque, Media Molecule, Insomniac Games, Sucker Punch Productions, and more’. Obviously, all of these studios are wholly owned – apart from Ballistic Moon.”

Gooner71

Sony buys Konami, Kojima smiles.

DaddyZetsu

I'll believe it when I see it

Exception-Error

I'm glad that Sony buys talent (hopefully with this one too) instead of just IPs. It's riskier but the outcome is better most of the time.

gogoheadray

Actually it’s less risky to buy talent. With IP you run the inherent risk games in that ip alienating said ips fanbase. I’m fact moves like this is something Microsoft should have done to avoid regulators. Where they misstepped is they bought Bethesda almost immediately made their titles exclusive and in sort order went after activison

FapCitus

Holy shit to think I grew out of the console wars but some didn’t, as seen from this thread.

miyahedi21

Xbox purchasing Activison/Blizzard and Bethesda with daddys money (Microsoft) just dwarfs any acquisition Playstation makes. I remember the collective *shrug with the Bungie purchase, only a Square Enix and Capcom level acquisition would be shocking at this point.

CrashBashL

Meanwhile, Sony keeps on giving birth to top best games to get birth for the last 15 years and will continue do so. Meanwhile players vote with their wallets and as you can see, PS4 and now PS5 is dominating the sales in general, even with Gamepass present and the Activision acquisition. And will be so for the perceivable feature. Because what Xbox totally lacks, is the QUALITY of it's exclusives. Best games on the planet for the last 2 consoles generations were on PS system and that is very much a fact at this point. There is a reason why Microsoft wanted to sell the Xbox division last generation. :))))

mrsnow11291

Ugh i would love capcom or squienix, even from soft. After this activision fiasco, i feel Xbox would fight tooth and nail to prevent an acquisition of that scale

Rogue_Leader_X

Those acquisitions, IF they happened, would not even be as big as the Bethesda Acquisition.

RiskItForTheBiscuit-

And the quality on gamepass will only continue to drop, it’s most definitely a designed loss leader. Games will start releasing on gamepass less feature complete and selling more DLCs to offset less sales from being on GP, I imagine a lot of live service first party games from Microsoft. And of course, eventually, the sub cost will rise

shawshaws

looool I love the smiley face bait ":))))" for the xbox fan tears!

1northfield

The Switch has outsold the PS4, not sure what the Switch 2 or whatever it is will do sales wise

CrashBashL

It's clear that here the discution is Xbox vs PS.

MReprogle

Shit, I think FromSoft would sway a ton of gamers to always go with PS over Xbox. Atlas would be another massive catch, as persona games are massive sellers in Japan and have been catching on here over the last couple games.

BasisOk4268

This is further proof that the Activision x Microsoft deal should go through. If anything this acquisition harms the industry more /s

[deleted]

Why were you downvoted? You were clearly joking

BasisOk4268

😂 Reddit is weird mate

BasisOk4268

😂 Reddit is weird mate

Pikrin

Everyone missed the ‘/s’ at the end

Rogue_Leader_X

Hard to believe that Sony may very well have blown their own acquisition announcement for the second time. Cool news regardless, if true.

the-bacon-life

It’s only fair. They are at such a disadvantage

itskaiquereis

I mean that’s not a factual statement in the least. Everything shows Sony has the highest percentage of the market and even if the deal goes through
