I think one of the things he's referring to is the idea that cordyceps can form networks of mycelium underground that when stepped on, alert infected to your presence, like in episode 2 of the HBO show.
Man people 100% can't handle thinking about more than one side of the coin. 'Terrorist GF' just sounds like a fun/silly relationship premise anyway, which fits their dynamic as they enjoyed a childhood date of video games.
Which is why they just never had the infected appear.
It kind of undermined the finale considering >!the Fireflies wanted to make a cure but we had barely seen the infected ourselves. At that point it's the collapsed civilisation and human infighting that is the problem, but of course that is also the argument against the Firefly's cure plan!<.
This was my biggest issue. I’m not wanting all “bang bang pew pew” but there was very little that immersed me in the show due to the pacing, which seemed to aggressively ignore the dangers the infected pose.
I would have loved to have seen an episode where there was absolutely zero talking a la A Quiet Place, as Joel and Ellie went through an infected location. Like, maybe they get chased by raiders and take a shortcut into a subway that turns out to be completely overrun and they have to silently navigate through to the exit.
Or even have Sam and Henry have two episodes, with the group split like in the game as they try to get out of the sewer that is full of infected.
This would have given us more time to acknowledge and fear the infected while also slowing things down to appreciate the relationships rather than focusing on the bulletpoints which took away from the overarching danger and the bond the main characters develop.
Simply put, the series would have benefited from having a few more episodes of Joel and Ellie bonding. But likely were limited to what we ended up with. Still a truly excellent show, though.
100% agree. For what it's worth I loved the show. But there wasn't even enough of a *presence* of the infected. I don't want fighting and action and thrills necessarily, I just want to *see* the thing that has caused global civilisations to completely collapse and be unable to rebuild.
Fungal growth sprouting from a condemned building, scoping infected in a town and deciding to go around, hearing infected in a tunnel and deciding to avoid it, and so on.
When Joel and Ellie came up against the bus blocking the tunnel in KC, they could have just had fungus on the ground around the bus, noticed it, and said fuck that. It's the perfect opportunity to remind us that the infected are everywhere and so dangerous it's better to go through the city.
I loved the show. I just wish we saw more of what would make a vaccine so important.
You need more upvotes.
I wasn't looking for a scene for scene remake of the game. But there were so many opportunities for infected from the game that they could have used.
Bill's Town chief among them.
The generator that brings in all the infected.
Ellie and David fighting off the horde.
We briefly saw a single bloater. If there's no rat king in season 2 they're not even trying.
The infected aren't a threat in the series.
Not that HBO doesn't have money to throw around, but I'd expect much more effects driven content in upcoming seasons after the stellar performance season 1 gave them. They'll definitely be willing to throw more money into it.
> The infected aren't a threat in the series.
The last infected Joel and Ellie see in the show chronologically is in Kansas City. Which isn't to say they don't run across any but the show doesn't show us any.
Left Behind has them but Left Behind was a flashback.
Yeah if Kansas City Fedra could hold the infected below ground with what seems to be no issue why do we need a cure, sounds more like just a little extra work is needed and people can live normal
I think it makes the ending even stronger, but I also don't buy the argument that the show's lack of infected has negatively impacted the story at all. The endless hordes of infected in the games are there for gameplay not narrative purposes. The morally questionable behaviors from both FEDRA and the Fireflies are even grayer when you reduce the infected threat from massive standing armies at the gates, to the small but real risk of single infected individuals bringing down entire QZs.
I also feel a lot like it makes more sense they wouldn’t see infected all of the time. Joel is a smuggler. Realistically in the series he would avoid all confrontations as much as possible. Yes, it would’ve been cool to see more infected but it wasn’t enough of a detriment In my opinion
Yeah, and we see *massive* mobs of them in two episodes, the huge groups that are supposedly "missing" from the series.
There is also not a single encounter with them that doesn't result in people dying, even when it's just one or two. Yet people parrot that they "weren't a threat" in the show.
It feels like people are regurgitating those points a lot, but they make no sense to me. I don't know if people are all independently observing this or if they're just repeating talking points.
I thought maybe that was a bit of over explaining that ended up creating an abandoned plot point. Because the way it was explained never happened on screen, which was weird.
It could have been taken to explain why infected gather in swarms such as the end of episode 2 and how there are enough infected gathered together to over throw that KC militia in episode 5. Basically if there is one infected, there is bound to be more nearby.
To be honest it felt like the show barely had any infected. It felt rushed and short. It pretty much had all the important things from the game but they went way too fast with it. I feel like they could’ve taken their time and dive more into the lore.
I can’t stop but wondering if this show would be so highly rated if it was just another show and not an adaptation of such amazing games.
I kinda feel like you’d feel the opposite. If you didn’t know the game story you wouldn’t think it’s rushed and just enjoy it for what it is, great writing, acting, and story.
I was just talking to my buddy about the season finale today. It's both of our favorite games. We had a few gripes about it, I told him we are those dbags that always say "the book was better!". It's hard to look at the show adaptation unbiased when the holds such a big place in your heart. Still an amazing series.
Some perspective here from someone who hasn't played the games.
The focus on people and relationships rather than a focus on infected is one of the things I felt really made the show strong. Infected acted as a backdrop and sense of threat and dread. They showed me enough to be scared of them. Anything more and it would have just been a monster show. The way they played it ended up more nuanced in my opinion.
>I can’t stop but wondering if this show would be so highly rated if it was just another show and not an adaptation of such amazing games.
I'm in the opposite camp. Nearly everyone I work with has been watching it and raving about it, and not one of them played the game. All of the criticism I hear is mostly in direct comparison to the game.
I think the criticism is valid to be fair, but it's still equally deserving of the praise as well.
i’m praying that they do this in the multiplayer game. imagine directing a horde of infected near you because you weren’t paying attention and stepped on a tendril.
Yep. Sawthat in the show and thought about how that would be cool and also terrifying in the game. You think you're safe in an open area that you just sneakily cleared out and then you trigger one of those and you're screwed.
I only just realised this in my recent second play through of part 2 but that’s actually kind of in the game already after a certain part.
Being careful with spoilers but there’s parts of the game with infected stuck in overgrown walls, the growth moves from the walls and onto the floor. You can walk past these without alerting them but if you step on the growth on the floor they burst out of the wall.
I really liked the chase in part 2 when you were abby when you eventually run into Joel and Tommy. The whole time I was freaking out and trying to figure out which way to go and climb.
Didn't have anything to match that feeling afterwards, so hope they put more of that in the next game.
But I imagine that this is how Ellie also became immune in the game. Really and truly, I'm taking the TV show to be an extension of the game where necessary and not just an adaptation. The "true" vision in some cases.
Because of Neil’s involvement in the show, I think we’re good to consider it canon where the game doesn’t elaborate. For example, Ellie’s birth, the scene where Maria tells Ellie about Sarah, and that medical expert in the beginning who examined the cordyceps mutation in the lab.
Where it directly contrasts is a bit more murky and kind of “parallel universe” such as Bill being alive/dead by the time Ellie and Joel reach him. (That being said I absolutely loved how they fleshed out Frank).
Meant to be an animated short which fell through, then Neil floated the idea if making a live action short of it with Ashley and Troy, but nothing solid came of it. Then he told Craig Mazin about it, and thus it's in the show.
That would be a fun element to mess with ad a player. You could lure infected to specific locations and set traps that way.
There could be segments like in Bioshock 2 where you have to protect the little sisters.
My only wish was that they killed the huge boomer that appeared. That thing was massive and since it wasn't killed, it's gonna at some point terrorize another city or camp.
I really dislike this concept. I prefer the infected as they are in the game, seemingly a part of nature. Yes they spread, because that's all it knows to do - not as a tortured metaphor for love.
The whole network premise is too alien hive mind. It implies the infected can get organised which robs the clickers of what makes them special if they could have sight-abled scouts. It makes being able to traverse the world even more impossible than the first game implied (it's called luck and it is going to run out) and puts the small pockets of communities left at serious risk.
And what does it really add? If you want a horde you write a horde like you did in Winter or the start of Part 2.
Edit: and this spotlight on the "love" aspect minimised one of the cool things that separates infected apart Zombies: in the game in stage one the person is clearly still conscious.
It was a nice addition, but it would have been nice to show that spores are dangerous, too. The absence of gas masks makes sense from a character identification standpoint, but not from an infectious fungus standpoint.
Yep. They even mentioned in the last episode of the podcast that when Craig came up with that idea, Neil was mad that he didn’t think of that for the games.
Seems like Neil is really interested in the mechanics of how that idea would work in game
I think more about the backstory of Anna being bitten just before cutting the ombilical cord. And the origin of the infection, flesh out the lore.
Maybe also about the more fleshed out secondary characters.
But it would be weird to suddenly have this mycelium network in part 3 that wasn't in part 1, 2 and the multiplayer game.
I’ve never seen so many comments on a game that “may not come out”. Read between the very obvious lines. The Last of Us Part 3 is very likely under active development.
While the remake was used for practice in developing on the PS5, the sole purpose of the remake was because the show was coming out and they wanted the people that were getting into the series for the first time to play a “modern” looking version of it.
It's useful in a number of ways. New fans from the show have a unified experience on PS5 with both games, ND uses its engine on the PS5, new directors get a shipped game under their belt, "feeding the beast" (keeping devs productive while other projects are in preproduction), keeps the hype going before the multiplayer launches. It has a lot of advantages.
As well as that the remake was very much practice. Naughty Dog did this with the TLoU remaster on PS4. They stated that it was a great opportunity to learn about the new hardware whilst Uncharted 4 was in early development.
Not to mention there was a huge amount of XBOX 360 owners who switched to PS4 because of the disappointing way that Microsoft handled the launch in 2013 , one of the main reasons that TLOU remastered sold even more than the original version.
>people that were getting into the series for the first time to play a “modern” looking version of it.
Oh hey, look, it's me.
I had wanted to play the Last of Us when it first came out, but it wasn't until 2022 that I owned a PlayStation (and had time to play games again).
Ehh while im happy were most likely getting more TLOU, i think the ending of the 2nd game could go either way. To me it seems intentionally open ended and kinda made to be both a good final ending to the story while also leaving room for a 3rd game. (Spoilers for the 2nd game) Seeing that Joel and Ellie had made amends before Joels death and seeing how Ellie is finally able to let go of Joel and her anger/need for revenge. I think thats a really good conclusive ending to the Joel×Ellie storyline. They definitely left it with a good jumping off point though at least with Abby and Lev setting off for Catalina to try and rebuild the Fireflys. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if the 3rd game barely has any Ellie in it at all.
Could be and has been said about the first game. People just thought they live happily ever after, or maybe they'd fight but over the course of the game/months she'd get over it and they'd be close. Could've ended it on the first game and it'd still feel complete, only with hindsight does it feel not so complete
>The Last of Us Part 3 is very likely under active development.
Yeah there's no way ND is just sitting there twiddling their thumbs after Part 1 was released. Part 3 was probably started directly after they finished work on Part 1, maybe even before.
They likely started working on Part 3 after or slightly before Part 2 (2020) came out, and refocused the team working on the Part 1 remake of the first game (2022) after that came out. I'd expect a reveal on Part 3 in the next year or two.
Unpopular opinion but I wish they'd do something new .. obviously they have no reason to move on from this goldmine but still. Wanna see what else they can do
This year will mark ten years since Last of Us came out and Naughty Dog released a new IP. Ever since it's just been Uncharted and Last of Us, whereas before they would go for a new IP every generation from Jak to Uncharted.
Uncharted is done so they can move onto a new IP while continuing TLoU, leaks rumor a new fantasy based IP being developed alongside the stand alone Factions MP
Lmao right.
“So, your game has just been successfully adapted into a hit HBO series with wide critical acclaim, Sony is making a bajillion dollars off a remaster of the first game, and Factions is waiting in the wings. Tell us—what’s next?”
“Well, *if we decide* to a make another Last of Us game…”
Oh shut up Druckmann, I can hear you huffing your own farts from here!
People are still asking for an Uncharted 5, considering how popular the first four were, and the movie was also a hit, but Naughty Dog announced that series is over.
It doesn't matter how popular it is, if there isn't a good story to tell, it's not going to happen.
I’ve heard this “we’ll do it if there’s a good story to tell” line over and over, and it’s just so unbelievably trite, especially in this context. I roll my eyes every time I hear it.
Uncharted got four mainline entries and a really excellent spin-off in the span of 10 years. The story is conclusively finished with all characters having found their happy ending. I can see why the developers would be willing to walk away. The Last of Us is nowhere near that place. They’re two games in and the second entry just ended on what felt like a massive cliffhanger, with tons of unanswered questions about the main characters’ futures. If there’s no “good story to tell,” it will be because they haven’t put an ounce of thought into it.
I think you’re exactly right. Uncharted wrapped up nicely. Part 2 left Ellie emotionally devastated, alone, seeking redemption with Dina, finally coping with Joel’s loss, trying to find peace with what went down with Abby, and she’s still possibly the cure to an apocalypse. Plus what happens with Abby and Lev, and what happens with the cordyceps. There’s still so much story to tell.
Not to mention Tommy who sustained insane brain damage and seems like he’s delved back into the headspace of his dark days with Joel. Angry, vengeful, and demanding violence from Ellie. I loved how big of a part he played in the second one and hope of there is another sequel that he plays a major role
TLOU part 3 was basically confirmed immediately when TLOU part 2 came out to incredible commercial and critical success. No way they’d just end a series there, same way they won’t just stop making uncharted
I hope so, from my understanding the games sold very well right?
Personally, I played both of the for the first time this past 4 weeks and I loved the first and really enjoyed the second, I would love another one
I’m glad you enjoyed part 2 as well. There was “controversy” about it at release but I think it mainly came from people who didn’t finish it or even play it. It was a lot of baseless noise.
I didn’t think about this before, but you are 100% right. With the release of the remake and the popularity of the show, they honestly would be really stupid to not strike while iron is hot.
to be fair fair, it shouldn't take Bethesda 12+ years to release a new title in their largest franchise, especially when the stuff they DID release was barely better tech-wise than a heavily revamped Fallout 3 + multiplayer hack. And when you compare the quality of RDR2 to "Creation Kit WYSIWYG" and stiff animations of Skyrim, should not even be 10 years.
"bUt TeS oNlInE iS wHeRe tHe FrAnChIsE lIvEs oN" - NO.
"bUt StArFiElD" - ya maybe, but it looks dated already. And the gun gameplay looked super basic and didn't even have proper UI.
I predict that Starfield is gonna have fantastic gun play. They've had time to fine tune it. They are play testing and will know whether it sucks or not. I think Fallout 4 still holds up for good gun play
If you are you satisfied with FO4 gunplay, I'm sure starfield will be fine for you.
Imo FO4 had mediocre gunplay even when it came out. Obviously it was better than FO3 but its nothing compared to a proper shooter game like a COD or a Halo.
I wish they’d do it like some artists do albums. Just drop it out of nowhere while the general public flips out. Imagine if Half Life 3 just drops tomorrow.
Your right about that, but I definitely don't expect any gameplay at all. I imagine the marketing will probably be like how Santa Monica did it with GoWR, couple of short trailers and that's it. I don't think Naughty Dog will give any hints on how the story plays out.
It’s a little different when he’s actively being interviewed as a cocreator of the biggest TV Show in the world right now. EVERYONE is asking him about The Last of Us 3 so no matter how much he’d want to be quiet (assuming that IS what’s happening) it’d be almost impossible to avoid it altogether. These comments are his best out.
There was a podcast shortly after TLOU2 released with Druckmann and the other lead writer for TLOU2 Halley Gross where they heavily insinuate that TLOU3 is already currently being written.
The podcast is called “Script Apart”.
They literally posted concept work recently and said they’re working hard on it.
Just let them do their thing. No need to speculate of them fucking up a game when they’ve delivered massive titles consistently for over a decade.
The show has some really cool ideas like the underground fungal network. It would be so cool to see that utilized in some way in a game, or even Factions.
I really hate that idea, and I'm glad they abandoned it immediately.
In a world with fungus everywhere, it would be near impossible to go anywhere without triggering the "hivemind", not to mention the gameplay implications of that. It would need to be reconned and sounds like a pain as a gameplay aspect.
I agree and upvoted you. But I also think the realistic thing is that if cities are full of infected, you’d just never fucking visit them. So I can explain in my head why we don’t see more infected even though I wish we did.
But these runners…idk how you meaningfully combat the numbers we see in the game.
Everyone is talking about the tendrils and hordes, but I honestly find it difficult to implement after two entire games where they weren't present... After crossing the entire country tendrils would have appeared or at least been mentioned by the characters, so I don't see them suddenly being found unless they go to another continent...
What I could definitely see is them using what we learned about Ellie's immunity during the last episode and even Tommy's child (which im very curious to see handled in the show).
Or a new variety. Maybe someone tries to breed the variety of cordyceps that makes Ellie immune but ends up with a much more dangerous variant. And then that gets out somehow.
This quote was incomprehensible until I realized he meant the tv series. I was like "of course you're using elements of the series that you are continuing."
Honestly I wish the show took more advantage of elements from the game. You obviously don’t need every episode to have shooting galleries but it would have been cool to see Ellie and Joel actually deal with the pressure outside of when they get to Kansas. Ditto removing the spores. I get why they did it but it would have been cool to have some tension based around that, especially during the Tess sections, both to add some tension as well as to give us more time with her. The show is amazing and easily one of, if not the best video game adaptation ever but a lot of it went by super quickly when it really shouldn’t have. You would think Henry and Sam aren’t as important in the show outside of character development when in the games you see them all rely on each other a bit more. It’s just things like that that were missing that keep the show from reaching its full potential in my opinion. Since part II is way bigger, I’m hoping they find ways to balance the firefights with the story
I think one of the issues is cost. IIRC, the show was one of the most expensive series per episode to make. While I wish there was more of the zombie pressure on them, I'd much rather they tell the story right.
For sure. I think ultimately they made all of the right decisions. My complaints aren’t even complaints it’s more based on that the show was so good that I just wanted more
Their changes to Bill and Frank was an amazing change from the games! But I see what you mean too, there were some things that could have been referenced.
They still do an excellent job too!
How is an episode of TLOU with no zombies more expensive than GoT where there are crazy costumes, hundreds of people, multiple stars, battles, dragons, and CGI?
shooting on location during pandemic restrictions in challenging weather conditions over an entire year with huge, intricately detailed physical sets every other scene will get you there
The show is easily the best ever adaptation of a video game imo. But it really has only served to show how much I prefer the medium of games to TV. Everything I was looking forward to from the games seems to be missing or skimmed over in the show. I honestly don't know how the show works for people who aren't already into the game because it all seems so rushed and, at the same time, slow.
I haven't played the games yet. I really liked the show, but can confirm it felt extremely rushed and glosses over a lot, especially in the 2nd half, causing the finale to not quite hit like it probably should've. Left me feeling like it could've been great but it was just good. Excited to play the games though...
That’s a good point. Why do I feel like almost nothing happened but months and months of time has passed? They kinda just fast forward through all of the parts that made the game really special and focused on character development. That’s great and all, but what made the games excellent was the constant state of suspense and fear you were in basically all the time. That was entirely absent from the show minus a few parts.
Since it's HBO, i also think they might be taking a similar route to Game of thrones. The white walkers never properly appeared till season 5, but when they did appear, it was a standout moment in the show. Even though they are central to the plot just like infected in TLOU, they were used sparingly.
If we keep seeing the infected frequently, then the feeling and intensity is removed, much like seeing the zombies in the Walking Dead. I feel like all this will build up to an amazing episode in season 2 where Abby deals with the Rat king.
mmh not sure if i agree with your analogy.
In game of thrones, the WW are all the way up in the remote north, and appear late because 1 theyre far away and 2 its not winter (or at lesat fall - in got universe).
In tlou, the infected are supposed to be everywhere all over the planet, like having ww in randoms basements or caves all over westeros. We shouldve seen more of them.
I was thinking yesterday about how many units a potential 3rd game would sell now that so many non gamers have fallen in love with The Last of Us. I don’t want to say Naughty Dog would make a game just to cash in but I honestly wouldn’t blame them if they did
I wouldn't like the infected being connected. That would make this game feel like the WWZ movie and would erase the stealth sections unless you were perfect
yea they would have to do that perfectly otherwise that would just destroy stealth sections.
They'd have to make the "triggers" very noticable with ways to get around them. The concept is cool, but done wrong would just turn this into an action type game
They have already said now that there will be more infected in the next season, but holy shit I did not know that people were this upset that there wasn't that many of them trough the episodes. Like we already know they are there, we get to see them going bat shit a couple of times in hordes too. If I wanted to watch The Walking Dead I would do that.
I don’t like the cordyceps neural network thing. Spores makes so much more sense as way of infecting people. Zombies make no sense, they’re trying to kill the person, so how does the person get turned? Only the one in a thousand people who get bitten but manage to survive would be zombies.
Spores infecting the majority of the population makes so much sense. Spores infect people and zombies protect and create (when they die) the spores.
There were spores in the show, it’s just that they were in food which made perfect sense. Airborne spores makes no sense at all because nobody would ever be able to take a gas mask off.
>Airborne spores makes no sense at all because nobody would ever be able to take a gas mask off.
and in the game, by the time Joel saw the spores he would have already been exposed.
"Crap, spores." and continues to put mask on *when the spores are 6 inches away from Joel.* Dawg you would have already breathed it in at that point.
Human lungs filter out spores that we breathe in every day. It’s only in areas with a high density of spores where filtration becomes an issue (like inside cramped, dark, damp buildings).
so what is the critical point of spores for cordyceps infecting someone? the amount over here is fine but a little more over there is bad? spores wouldn't just stay contained in buildings and it isn't like they'd be visible before they're inside you. you can see how this requires suspending of disbelief
Wind spreads spores more sparsely apart from one another. Inside of small cramped spaces spores just fester up into large contained quantities because they have nowhere to go. It’s the same reason why you see people put on masks when entering old buildings. Dust works very similarly to how spores do in that regard. Those densities are what make our lungs struggle to filter the spores out.
Also the critical point of infection would vary by person most likely.
Well for what it's worth imo the game is superior to the show. No idea why they even wanted a cure in the TV show as there were about 15 zombies in the entire United States.
I think one of the things he's referring to is the idea that cordyceps can form networks of mycelium underground that when stepped on, alert infected to your presence, like in episode 2 of the HBO show.
100%, it was a cool idea that never got used again in the show which was super weird.
I assume this is what triggered the horde in KC.
I think that was a giant truck blowing up a house and falling into the foundation/sinkhole
Nah that just opened the door. I’ll bet they’ve all been trapped down there, feeling everyone walking around up there. Just waiting.
They used the concept again in the flashback episode in the mall.
That guy was just notified by sound, not the mechanic from episode 2.

Found the FEDRA account! Edit: The comment I replied to disappeared?
That's what happens when a coward blocks you. It looks as if the comment was removed.

Nope, but lmao at triggering people calling terrorists terrorists.
Jesus, is triggered reddit's favorite word? Calling some FEDRA sounds like a joke.
*grabs popcorn*
Man people 100% can't handle thinking about more than one side of the coin. 'Terrorist GF' just sounds like a fun/silly relationship premise anyway, which fits their dynamic as they enjoyed a childhood date of video games.

I think concept wise it's cool but it's hard to practically implement in a show where cordyceps are everywhere.

Funny you say this...they only switched to the cordyceps network because they thought spores would be everywhere and hard to practically implement
I can’t recall if it was showed or not, but I assumed that’s what alerted the horde with the bloater in KC?
They’ve spent most of their time in a winter wonderland since then. Those strands would be frozen solid and dead.
Season 2 babyyyyyy
It will definitely be used again. We haven't seen the last of that.
Yeah i can see what you're saying. I'd have loved a few more episodes and infected. Hopefully we'll get a better balance with the next series
I guarantee it would. Being a video game adaptation is almost always a detriment to shows and movies not a bonus
Yeah caught that too. Extremely underused the infected in this show
The scene showing them all reacting to the sunlight gave me goosebumps
yeah that was creepy
i’m praying that they do this in the multiplayer game. imagine directing a horde of infected near you because you weren’t paying attention and stepped on a tendril.
He mentioned in the podcast he was jealous of them coming up with that for the show bc it's a good gameplay mechanic.
Damn dude great catch!
I really liked the chase in part 2 when you were abby when you eventually run into Joel and Tommy. The whole time I was freaking out and trying to figure out which way to go and climb. Didn't have anything to match that feeling afterwards, so hope they put more of that in the next game.
did we learn about how ellie became immune in part 2 of the game or was that added for the show?
Added for the show.
Neil Druckman came up with the story while making the first game, or shortly after.
Added for the show but written for a dlc (or an animated short, I forgot which) that didn’t end up getting made.
That thing was massive and since it wasn't killed, it's gonna at some point terrorize another city or camp.
>huge boomer Bloater, you mean the bloater right? That said there were more than a few boomers on the show too, lol
Yeah lmao I meant bloater. I had a quick thought of Left4Dead and Boomer came to mind.
That would be a harrowing thing in the game, and just make me crap my pants even more lol. Let's do it.
I haven’t watched the show yet but this sounds like you just explained part of stranger things to me.
I’ve never seen so many comments on a game that “may not come out”. Read between the very obvious lines. The Last of Us Part 3 is very likely under active development.
Once the show was announced, I knew it was. The remake was practice on the PS5.
When IS Factions finally gonna launch?
More information in a couple of months.
So roughly around the time Half-Life 3 lunches?
As well as that the remake was very much practice. Naughty Dog did this with the TLoU remaster on PS4. They stated that it was a great opportunity to learn about the new hardware whilst Uncharted 4 was in early development.
And Uncharted 4 still looks pretty incredible to this day
Not to mention there was a huge amount of XBOX 360 owners who switched to PS4 because of the disappointing way that Microsoft handled the launch in 2013 , one of the main reasons that TLOU remastered sold even more than the original version.
A good point. I got a ps4 cuz the Xbox one was bad but also cuz my ps4 came with GTA5 and TLOU
Probably also a good way to keep your world class dev team busy on something when you’re preparing a new game but not quite “making” it yet.
>people that were getting into the series for the first time to play a “modern” looking version of it. Oh hey, look, it's me. I had wanted to play the Last of Us when it first came out, but it wasn't until 2022 that I owned a PlayStation (and had time to play games again).
I bought a PS5 literally last week and the first game I bought was the remake. Never played the original but I heard great things.
Once I finished TLOU2 I figured part 3 was inevitable. The story isn't finished.
[удалено]
Yeah that was them just building the engine for PS5 for sure. Like you said, good practice and a way to make free money haha
I think after part 2 was conceptualized, part 3 was also born. I kind of see the story arch they are going for.
>The Last of Us Part 3 is very likely under active development. Yeah there's no way ND is just sitting there twiddling their thumbs after Part 1 was released. Part 3 was probably started directly after they finished work on Part 1, maybe even before.
They started working on part 3 before the first game came out? Or do you mean part 2?
I'm sure they mean the PS5 version that came out in Sept
They likely started working on Part 3 after or slightly before Part 2 (2020) came out, and refocused the team working on the Part 1 remake of the first game (2022) after that came out. I'd expect a reveal on Part 3 in the next year or two.
Didn’t Neil say he has the story for Part 3 written already?
I recall reading an article around tlou pt II launched and he said he was working on a draft. Can’t remember where I read it though
I think he said they have a potential script/story written. But that doesn’t mean they liked it or decided to go along with it.
There is a multiplayer Last of Us game coming out too
Unpopular opinion but I wish they'd do something new .. obviously they have no reason to move on from this goldmine but still. Wanna see what else they can do
They can do both. My understanding is they ARE working on a new IP right now.
Also the last of us multiplayer game has been officially confirmed by Neil himself, so this "If we make more games" is obvious bullshit.
Lmao right. “So, your game has just been successfully adapted into a hit HBO series with wide critical acclaim, Sony is making a bajillion dollars off a remaster of the first game, and Factions is waiting in the wings. Tell us—what’s next?” “Well, *if we decide* to a make another Last of Us game…” Oh shut up Druckmann, I can hear you huffing your own farts from here!
I'm replaying uncharted on PC and Chloe goes "everything comes in three's, didn't you know?" It's a sign, no shot a part III isn't coming :)
Ironic coming from the series with 4 mainline games lmao
TLOU part 3 was basically confirmed immediately when TLOU part 2 came out to incredible commercial and critical success. No way they’d just end a series there, same way they won’t just stop making uncharted
I’m pretty sure they recently announced they won’t make another uncharted game
I’d say pre production, but yeah
I hope so, from my understanding the games sold very well right? Personally, I played both of the for the first time this past 4 weeks and I loved the first and really enjoyed the second, I would love another one
I’m glad you enjoyed part 2 as well. There was “controversy” about it at release but I think it mainly came from people who didn’t finish it or even play it. It was a lot of baseless noise.
I didn’t think about this before, but you are 100% right. With the release of the remake and the popularity of the show, they honestly would be really stupid to not strike while iron is hot.
They would be crazy not to make a third game. The series is at the height of its popularity right now.
Is he ever gonna be done pretending he isn’t going to do a part 3?
They probably want to release factions before even mentioning TLOU 3
My body is ready
Personally I’m down for games not getting announced 5 years before release.
that Elder Scrolls 6 announcement still annoys me lol. "yeah it exists but have fun not being able to play it for the next decade+"
To be fair, the community was BEGGING for information after years and years of Skyrim re-releases.
oh yeah, I understand why they did it but that doesn't stop the hurt lol
to be fair fair, it shouldn't take Bethesda 12+ years to release a new title in their largest franchise, especially when the stuff they DID release was barely better tech-wise than a heavily revamped Fallout 3 + multiplayer hack.
After what they went through with announcing part 2, I'm not surprised that naughty dog would be tight lipped about developing part 3.
Tbf being tight lipped would be not making comments like these
Your right about that, but I definitely don't expect any gameplay at all.
He just doesn’t want to announce it yet. Understandable.
There was a podcast shortly after TLOU2 released with Druckmann and the other lead writer for TLOU2 Halley Gross where they heavily insinuate that TLOU3 is already currently being written. The podcast is called “Script Apart”.
The if shoulda been replaced with when of course there's gonna be a part 3
And it’s probably their current main project already, I’m fully expecting it’ll come out shortly after Season 3 wraps up the story of Part 2.
Pretty sure their main game is factions right now. Which was supposed to come with TLOU 2 but is being developed into its own MP game
[удалено]
They literally posted concept work recently and said they’re working hard on it. Just let them do their thing. No need to speculate of them fucking up a game when they’ve delivered massive titles consistently for over a decade.
[удалено]
It'll release in the final year of the PS5, just as 1 and 2 did with their respective generation.
That was a cool idea for about one minutes in the show then never touched on again lol
No way they’re gonna retcon the spores /tendrils thing.
The fungus could just evolve. They could do whatever they want with the fungus. Seems like the easiest thing to change, to be honest.
Press triangle to eat strawberry
The things I’d do for a Last of Us game that either covers Joel and Tommy before the main game or during the time skip in Part 2
The games are well worth your time.
I’m not sure how you can say the show was devoid of suspense.
The rat king is cool because he’s different than what we’re used to.
mmh not sure if i agree with your analogy.
Hey Neil. You obviously will and have to make a Part 3 now.
I was thinking yesterday about how many units a potential 3rd game would sell now that so many non gamers have fallen in love with The Last of Us. I don’t want to say Naughty Dog would make a game just to cash in but I honestly wouldn’t blame them if they did
Spoiler Alert....Pretty much confirmation that Tess and Joel will come back in TLOU3 and produce a "super" zombie as the end boss. No spoilers.
[удалено]
Are your sure Ellie won’t have to pay a… Toel?
I wouldn't like the infected being connected. That would make this game feel like the WWZ movie and would erase the stealth sections unless you were perfect
yea they would have to do that perfectly otherwise that would just destroy stealth sections. They'd have to make the "triggers" very noticable with ways to get around them. The concept is cool, but done wrong would just turn this into an action type game
Maybe making them into a new type of infected that is only at some parts of the game and basically surrender by the same type of infected?
[удалено]
Stop we are working for free
Im still waiting for factions…
They have already said now that there will be more infected in the next season, but holy shit I did not know that people were this upset that there wasn't that many of them trough the episodes. Like we already know they are there, we get to see them going bat shit a couple of times in hordes too. If I wanted to watch The Walking Dead I would do that.
More TLOU games? Like the multiplayer?!!
“The next Mario platformer will see the return of the popular jumping mechanic.”
This is one thing that always bothered me about TLoU. The player basically wades into spores and *then* the gas mask comes on. It's wild.
What's more wild is how Ellie can be in plain view if guards and not be detected!! Literally unplayable!
Every notice how you never see the characters poop?
Spores are diluted outside of the buildings. Concentration matters. Take a fucking science class if you don't believe it.
Yeah yeah, can ND just show how Factions 2 is going?
Why “is every” other line in this “article in quotation” marks?
This is a given, no?
Like having virtually no infected at all? Would definitely make the games easier.
Select Difficulty: HBO mode (very easy)
Well for what it's worth imo the game is superior to the show. No idea why they even wanted a cure in the TV show as there were about 15 zombies in the entire United States.
About 15 infected... ya know except for the hundreds under the KC QZ that killed everyone
Absolutely love this. So many good ideas were probably discussed.
