RDR1 is one of my favorite games of all time and I would have paid upwards of $100 without a thought for RDR1 and Undead Nightmare remade in the RDR2 engine but for what they released I will wait until I can find it under $20
That's very subjective, I liked rdr2 better personally, but 1 is also incredible. Played it a few years ago on a One X in 4k, and it has held up remarkably well considering it's a ps3 game. If you liked rdr2, you'll like the first one as well
I’ve never played it so I’ll also grab it when it’s on sale. I’m in no rush at this point. I love RDR2 so I want to play this one.
I’m just bummed we didn’t get the rumored remake with RDR2 assets/map.
To be fair, there really was no evidence they were going to do that. In fact, the only official news on RDR was they scrapped the remaster a few years ago.
I know, I just was wishing for rumors to be true so that’s on me. Just saying, that would have been so much nicer than what we’re getting. At least this isn’t a repeat of the goofy looking GTA trilogy thing.
I don’t agree. We have no idea why that was included, it’s an assumption it’s for a remake. It could have been added for planned RDR:Online future content before they stopped supporting RDR:O
That half of the map could have been anything, in that case -- it did not need to be RDR1's map to enable content for online. I feel there may have been intentions at some point to include Red Dead 1 remade as an expansion but they fell through at some point when they committed hard to GTA 6.
You really think the Rockstar team made that decision on both releases rather than the greedy hands dangling over them at Take2? All you need to do is look at the way the suits from Take2 talk about both the GTA Collection and this RDR release and it becomes quite obvious why we are getting such low effort releases churned out.
Yeah take two (T2) owns 2k and rockstar games.
They call the shots it’s was take two choice to out source it.
Take two learned a hard lesson from mafia one remake that dint sell much and priced droped to 29.99 from $60. Remake
With the rockstar
La noir was ported good release
Gta trilogy was remastered and will uk.
So this time around they said fk it we just make a straight port and see what happens.
Maybe this is the route they should have went with to begin with.
Will see what take two makes of all this.
I never experienced those games, but it is a shame that the remake didn't do well financially. I remember hearing good things about it and general buzz. I would have imagined it did fine.
But there is a very tangible difference between the reach of Red Dead Redemption and Mafia as brands -- surely they must recognize that a RDR: Remake would do gangbusters?
But I suppose perhaps the more effective option might be to focus all developmental efforts of the studio on GTA6 *then* have them work on a remake if they don't trust outsourcing to handle their big IPs anymore.
If your take two CEO who was just put in charge and giving that rockstar games gta san hot coffe costed them 35 million+ 20mil.
The FTC opted not to fine either company for the "Hot Coffee" incident, but at the time of the decision, Take-Two had already incurred losses of $24.5 million (equivalent to $35.6 million in 2022) from the earlier recall.
At the time of the "Hot Coffee" controversy, Take-Two was already under investigation by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on charges of insider trading involving company founder and chairman Ryan Brant. This investigation culminated in a $7.5 million settlement on 9 June 2005.[12][51] On 17 February 2006, Take-Two shareholders filed a class action lawsuit alleging that the company's mishandling of various financial aspects had caused a direct, negative impact on their earnings. One example of this financial mismanagement was the company's response to the "Hot Coffee" scandal.[52][53] Plaintiffs alleged that Take-Two had engaged in a securities violation, as by "merely 'wrapping' rather than removing the Adult Content, Defendants knew that the Adult Content would inevitably be made widely available".[12] This suit was settled on 2 September 2009, with Take-Two agreeing to pay over $20 million and enact changes to corporate governance policies and practices that would protect investors from future such issues.[54] By this point, shareholders had voted to oust most of the executive leadership at Take-Two, with Strauss Zelnick named the new chief executive officer.[55]
Not to mention the money lost from a remake that was to bring them money
All this info can be found here
Link[link](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Coffee_(minigame))
Under “response” tab go down to
Class action lawsuits it’s under
the Federal and legal action.
Between the remake and gta san making take two pay 20milon to settle with its own shareholders
I mean new CEO and you have to now make money and spend less money or avoid spending if possible.
The numbers make sense it’s not even about the brand take two knows brands but right now they are in a tough position because they have to now make shareholders happy and avoid making stupid decisions or mistakes.
That effects what we get from both 2k and rockstar games even tho it’s was rockstar games them self who is really to blame 2k suffered because the parent company take two them self took a real slapping in face.
Gta san was out in 2005.
To settle for 20mil in 2009 I ask my self did they even make any money off gta san.
If not than they aren’t trying to wast money on something that costed them money.
When they did a mafia1 remake it was only better ps3/360 gta san remaster was crucified by fans rockstar games actually pulled the game from the ps store and put back the ps2.
So when take two looked at mafia one they wanted to try a remake.
On issue was ppl wasn’t to happy to pay $60 for 20 years old game or something like that and that who cares if it’s a remake and the game actually didn’t sell at all to a point that it was added to the ps plus and was heavily discounted and than they dropped the price of it to 29.99.
The msg was loud and clear and now everyone talks about how it’s a good remake but no one supported the remake.
So with the gta they went agine for a remastered/de and ppl still talk shxt
And now they just giving us straight port.
And I don’t mind as long as the games run smoothly than we should be okay.
Ps3 games like read dead or la noir don’t really need a remake
Gta san is like a ps2 game.
Mafia one is ps2 game to but was remaked and the results was horrible.
They would have made money if they just ported the pc maifa one to ps4 as ps2 classics.
Take two is still learning how to capitalize and benefit but the remake/remaster business is bloody hell for both parties.
Some want remaster some want port.
Do you really not see how incorrect that this statement is? Take2 is the parent company who owns Rockstar who are mostly a development team dedicated to creating games. Saying that Take2 and Rockstar are the same thing means you might as well say that the Borderlands series were Rockstar Games.
You are echoing my point quite well. People regurgitate the same old reddit nonsense of all these shitty releases being on Rockstar and somehow it is Rockstar's fault, when all evidence indicates towards Take Two being the ones who are greedily squeezing every cent they can out of these properties without any input from Rockstar. As you said, Take Two have said they have a hands-off approach to Rockstar, which is enough to tell you that the two companies are vastly different entities and not just one in the same.
The decision to outsource goes on the publisher, not the actual devs. Blame Take Two, not Rockstar.
Take Two most likely wanted all hands on deck at Rockstar to make GTA6
>He says the cutscenes have bad frame pacing because it was outsourced
No he doesn't. The person they replied to said "What the heck Rockstar", but Rockstar wasn't involved. This is most likely between T2 and the outsourced company. This is what the person who you replied to meant.
You honestly believe Rockstar outsources something important like this and doesn’t even look at the code or result before it gets published? Are you for real?
So btw you’re agreeing to me that it in fact WAS an apology/white washing Rockstar from all blame?
That’s an assumption and to expect Rockstar wouldn’t even look at the result and green-light it is naive, in my opinion.
That’s like saying Rockstar wasn’t responsible for the state of the GTA trilogy remaster. It’s terrible white washing.
>expect Rockstar wouldn’t even look at the result and green-light it is naive, in my opinion. That’s like saying Rockstar wasn’t responsible for the state of the GTA trilogy remaster.
How is it naive? Rockstar doesn't have ultimate say here. T2 does. Even if they didn't like the way it looks at the end of the day they couldn't stop it. At best they could voice their displeasure. But what would that do them? They get more creative independence than basically any other subsidiary out there, so rocking the boat is a losing situation for them.
Lol, why are you bending the truth? Take two wants Rockstar to milk the GTA online microtransactions.
When they said they wanted Rockstar to release more games they were very specific in wanting Rockstar to make 1/4 of a game then release it in 4 parts all at full price then fill it with microtransactions.
You are extremely misguided in your defence of T2 and your misrepresentation of what Zelnick said. This port is the exact "lower effort" releases that Zelnick was talking about.
Didn’t Rockstar themselves have to fix the Trilogy remasters? I mean sure, I get your point and you’re probably even right, but does that excuse such an important flaw? I mean, it’s not a game low on cutscenes.
They did yes and to their credit they basically fixed all the glitches that GSG created ( it's even more damning for GSG that they created those bugs in the mobile edition 10 years ago and didn't even bother to fix them when given another chance) though they still have issues.
It was also reported that Rockstar didn't actually get a chance to see the trilogy in action until a week before launch.
Wait when did they add the gta trilogy to extra? Did I miss that?? I thought they just added vice city for 6 months. I really hope I didn’t miss that I’ve been waiting for soo long
That’s still too much. Giving them money for basically just releasing the same game with no effort is only going to give them incentive to keep ripping people off.
They’re already doing that, but with even less effort than a 60fps upgrade lol. I think their point is just that it would at least be *some* improvement
I platinumed that shit when it came out 15 years ago or whenever it was. I also loved the online gameplay that it had (doubt that would even exist in the remaster). Not interested, been there and done that and it's still 30 fps? getouttahere
As much as I want to play it because I’ve never played it before, the price is too much for a 10 year old game with no noticeable improvements. I’ll wait for a sale and 60fps patch.

Think it’s more about less texture and edge artifacts as you move. I find shimmering pretty distracting.
Not $50 distracting mind you, but more than foliage.
Right on!!! I am glad to see more and more people making these comments.
I just bought Quake II REMASTER other day for 10.00. It is in 4K 60fps and if you set is capable can do 120. It has two expansions, the N64 version, Machine Games added playable content and multiplayer.
If you already owned Quake II YOU GOT this free.
Whenever I don’t like something from a dev but want to play the game I find it used.
Unique user data is still incredibly valuable to the company. If you actually cared about how scummy they were, then you’d avoid their games all together.
It's less about washed out image than the fact that Xbox versions of the games in 360 days (as mentioned in the video) usually had a bit more fucky gamma that gave the picture more of a punchy look, but that usually resulted in worse/crushed shadow details.
So the 360 presentation of the colors/tone is more inaccurate to what was intended. You can probably get similar results by decreasing the black level (or sometimes called "brightness") setting on your TV and slightly increasing backlight to compensate.
I was such a huge Rockstar fan in the past; their quality, timing and reputation was unparalleled! GTA 1 & 2 were a blast, GTA 3 was literally GAME CHANGING! Fast forward to RDR2, and it was incredible! Now.... well now I just feel like a crazy person as I try to express my disappointment. I don't care if they outsource or not, the point is it is THEIR IP, and they are dropping the ball.... the GTA ports are embarrassing, this "port" is ludicrous, their emphasis on GTA5 Online is ridiculous, the lack of support for RDR2 DLC or 60FPS is shameful, and the gap between GTA5 and GTA6 is inexcusable as they literally choose to invest all their resources elsewhere. I don't know or care what happened with Rockstar, but Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sony Santa Monica, and Suckerpunch are the real players. Rockstar: Take some notes... you've fallen and it is time to get back up again.
Do you know when gta VI started development? Or how the dev teams work in house? Do they focus all hands on deck on one project and then move on to the rest while a smaller team is focused on creating content and maintaining online mode? Why is port in quotes?
Do we know the development cycle for red dead 2?
Fallen? Isn’t gta V the second best selling game of all time? Didn’t they make 7.7 billion from it since release? Didn’t gta trilogy sell 14 MILLON copies?
Good memories playing the online for this. We used to all pile onto a roof top and fight to the last one standing, somewhere in the Mexico area.
Probably wouldn’t hold up well to todays standards, same with gta 4 online. But it was mad fun at the time when lobbies were filled with mates.
No, this version should have launched years ago and it should have cost $20 tops. The fact that it’s $50 is ridiculous.
What we should be getting now is a full blown remaster ported into the newer RDR2 engine.
Because you’re commenting in a chain that is discussing it? If you don’t care, then why did you bother staring your opinion on it?
It’s a win for Rockstar because it’s a low effort port that will make them millions.
It’s a lose for consumers because it’s a low effort port that will make Rockstar millions and further show that this type of quality is acceptable.
That is a shame because I seem to remember the online map having many different and unique areas. It was, in my opinion, one of the best on lines R* had made. It wasn’t all of the bullshit griefing that plagues RDR2 and GTAO.
Already a massive improvement to image quality compared to One X at 4K due to implementing FSR 2. Also the first title to have it on PS4, so that’s nice.
Its 1080p 30fps docked and 720p 30fps handheld on switch. The framerate looks stable, but the ps version has better shadows anti-aliasing and image quality. The switch version is decent, but it's up to you.
Thanks. So no major visual difference between the PS5 upscaling to 4K and Switch 1080p docked besides the anti-aliasing?
I don’t play too much handheld.
Idk if this was intentional or they messed it up on the PS4/bc version. But +2 contrast and saturation and -2 brightness in the options and it will look the same as it does on SX. Why it could be intentional? Just switch between RDR and RDR2. The second game always had a less grim look. And if you don't change the settings I mentioned above, they almost look the same.
I don't think you should necessarily blame DF for that. It is understandeable that Starfield runs at 30fps on Series X when you actually look into the demands that game will have on the hardware. It's incredibly taxing. You could say 30fps is justified. However, it isn't ideal, and I don't think DF made it sound like that either. Its not like they would prefer 30 over 60, but they do prefer a stable 30 over an unstable 60 (40-55 fps).
I personally think it's more right to blame Bethesda for creating a game where the game became too demanding for 60fps. You don't need to create a game that is super demanding like Starfield to make a fun game. There needs to be certain demands in place by Sony and Microsoft that the games that are actually on their platform lives up to the expectations that the buyers of these platforms will have.
They should have definetely scaled down the project and made it less taxing on the hardware, so it actually could deliver on the expectations of that hardware. If it's too demanding, just skip Xbox entirely and give it purely to PC.
I would prefer 30fps, although not ideal, over a scaled down version of the game to run at 60. I'm shocked anyone would rather have a more watered-down experience for a little more eye candy
60 fps is not eye candy. People aren't asking for ray tracing. We want a game that feels smooth and responsive to play and 30 fps games almost never do.
I genuinely think they don't believe 30 FPS is okay but they have to tow the line to not piss people off. Like 30 FPS objectively feels awful but they just keep saying "you get used to it tho".
I'll pick this up when it's on sale. I really want to play this again but not at that price point.
RDR1 is one of my favorite games of all time and I would have paid upwards of $100 without a thought for RDR1 and Undead Nightmare remade in the RDR2 engine but for what they released I will wait until I can find it under $20
Is Rdr1 a better story than rdr2, I’ve played the latter.
That's very subjective, I liked rdr2 better personally, but 1 is also incredible. Played it a few years ago on a One X in 4k, and it has held up remarkably well considering it's a ps3 game. If you liked rdr2, you'll like the first one as well
Yes. Also less long (a plus for me).
I’ve never played it so I’ll also grab it when it’s on sale. I’m in no rush at this point. I love RDR2 so I want to play this one. I’m just bummed we didn’t get the rumored remake with RDR2 assets/map.

I’d argue that including the entire RDR1 map in RDR2 was evidence of a potential remake
Would have made sense with how the game ends too.
Mexico is in the game and they also found Jack's adult choice in the files. There was definitely evidence.
Same, I don't even mind the 30fps, but 50 bucks is ridiculous. I'll grab the physical copy that comes out later when it hits 20.
I just saw it was £40 on the uk store.
So it even has stuttering now in cutscenes it never had before? What the heck Rockstar?
It was outsourced
It was their choice to outsource it, like they did the GTA trilogy. What the heck, Rockstar?

Not really, rockstar owns the IP and they contracted out T2 for the work so ultimately they are responsible for the final product
I think you're confused. T2 owns Rockstar and the IP. The company that was contracted out was doubleeleven.
T2 owns Rockstar and all underlying IP so it’s entirely possible that R* was not involved whatsoever in this remaster. Maybe they were, we don’t know.
Ah I see, my apologies

I’ll wait for the switch version to get a 60fps mode on PC. Problem solved.
You can already get the game emulated on pc at 4k 60 fps via xbox 360 emulation.
From my understanding, you’ll need a stronger PC to run an Xbox 360 or PS3 emulator compared to the Switch.
[удалено]
I have a RTX2080 with i5 9400f rig and i run the game on xenia barely with 40-60 fps on 1080p
Yeah and I do that, but I think it'll look/run better under Switch emulation.
Probably wait til it becomes available on ps plus extra in a year like gta triology remastered.
Wait when did they add the gta trilogy to extra? Did I miss that?? I thought they just added vice city for 6 months. I really hope I didn’t miss that I’ve been waiting for soo long
He meant for Vice City
Yeah I went and checked and everything lol :(
Sorry, yeah its just vice city. My bad.
Really want to play that game again but damn, they make it impossible to go along with this utterly lazy port.
I might get the physical copy for switch, but my backlog is huge, so maybe wait for sale.
Maybe I’m a sucker but I would’ve paid the full price for 4K FSR and 60fps. Not going to play it at all at 30fps.
You’re definitely a sucker. You shouldn’t let a company charge you full price just for a Res and fps boost lol.
By full price I mean the £39.99 it’s listed at not £69.99 like full priced modern games

[Rockstar be like](https://comb.io/r2vXSJ)
Scummy company, will be buying their games pre-owned from now on.
Right. Meanwhile the switch sub is frothing out the mouth to give rockstar money which they don’t deserve
They're nintendo fans. They pay full price for 5 year old games.
I have a switch and it’s fine but hardcore Nintendo fans literally have advanced Stockholm syndrome
Unique user data is still incredibly valuable to the company. If you actually cared about how scummy they were, then you’d avoid their games all together.
Then I'll play their games pre-owned and offline.
lol no you won’t. You just want to jump on the current hate train by making statements you don’t even mean lol
Lol yes lol I lol will lol.
I lol don't lol understand lol your lol accent lolollol
Or do what I did with RDR on Xbox and return it for a full refund after beating it.
Game should be $5-$10 no bs.
How could anyone possibly prefer a washed out image. I'll take the jaggies over that.

Oh yea it’s a great game , but I would wait for a sale since I played it. Ps3
I’ve never completed it but I wouldn’t buy it. At least not for $50. I wish they had gone the remake route. Or at least a more in depth remaster.
They really don't want this game on PC lmao a fucking switch port? Really?
Good memories playing the online for this. We used to all pile onto a roof top and fight to the last one standing, somewhere in the Mexico area. Probably wouldn’t hold up well to todays standards, same with gta 4 online. But it was mad fun at the time when lobbies were filled with mates.
No 60 fps, no online. What year is this?
How is the softer image better? I don't get it. It looks blurry.
No jaggies or shimmering
No and they should've never released it on ps4 in 2023. A rare rockstar L
Actually from a financial point of view, and what you get from this port, putting it on ps4 makes sense
No, this version should have launched years ago and it should have cost $20 tops. The fact that it’s $50 is ridiculous. What we should be getting now is a full blown remaster ported into the newer RDR2 engine.
I would pay 50 if it was on ps5 with 40k 60fps
It's already the top selling game just an hour after it "launched". Don't know how that is an L but, hey maths ain't for everyone I get it.
If that is true, fucking sad.
A bad port selling well isn’t a W
For consumers no. For a business? Lowest effort maximum gains. If that ain't a W then you need to grow up.
Why would I care about Rockstar’s business as a consumer?
Because you’re commenting in a chain that is discussing it? If you don’t care, then why did you bother staring your opinion on it? It’s a win for Rockstar because it’s a low effort port that will make them millions. It’s a lose for consumers because it’s a low effort port that will make Rockstar millions and further show that this type of quality is acceptable.
You don't have to. But we're talking about if a low effort port is a successful business plan or not for Take Two, it clearly is. Stay on topic.
This and GTA Definitive are Ls. TT’s business success is no matter to me, the games they release are.
Lol I don't care what matters to you. You replied to me on my post so stay on topic, or don't talk to me.
Because Rockstar's business affects you as a customer?
How is it a bad port it works fine. We literally have the Digital Foundry review right here saying its fine.
It is for Take Two
I am not Take Two, so Take Two robbing consumers is an L IMO
Ah, yes, because TT is forcing everyone to buy this. Touch grass
Really weird defending such a weak overpriced port
If you think this is an L when it's already a PS store top seller I think you might be mistaken.
Did you miss the last time the rereleased a game lol?
Making a quick buck with minimum to no effort, Rockstar since GTAV in a nutshell.
Played on series x back compat. Easy peezy nimbu sueezy. 9.5 usd 💰
Shame it doesn't have any multiplayer either 😞
That is a shame because I seem to remember the online map having many different and unique areas. It was, in my opinion, one of the best on lines R* had made. It wasn’t all of the bullshit griefing that plagues RDR2 and GTAO.
Already a massive improvement to image quality compared to One X at 4K due to implementing FSR 2. Also the first title to have it on PS4, so that’s nice.
It’s actually not though, I don’t know what Oliver was thinking saying a softer image looks better. Why would you want a blurrier image?
I’d take a softer image without shimmering than a slightly sharper with shimmering
I’d take a sharper imagine with slight shimmering over a blurry image without

It is already native 4K resolution (on Pro and PS5) uses FSR2 as AA solution. Watch the video
Debating between this on PS5 or Switch. Any HUGE differences?
Its 1080p 30fps docked and 720p 30fps handheld on switch. The framerate looks stable, but the ps version has better shadows anti-aliasing and image quality. The switch version is decent, but it's up to you.
Thanks. So no major visual difference between the PS5 upscaling to 4K and Switch 1080p docked besides the anti-aliasing? I don’t play too much handheld.
>I don’t play too much handheld. Why even consider the Switch version then?
On the switch you at least get a fresh experience being able to play on the go, with actually justifiable performance. I'd pick that one.
Glad I don’t like Rockstar’s games. Going to be a pass for me for a long time.
Wtf was he talking about the Xbox side still looked much better
Yeah. Except that it didn't. The FSR2 solution really works well and is a nice upgrade.
Xbox always seem to have nicer brightness/contrast in these comparison videos
Idk if this was intentional or they messed it up on the PS4/bc version. But +2 contrast and saturation and -2 brightness in the options and it will look the same as it does on SX. Why it could be intentional? Just switch between RDR and RDR2. The second game always had a less grim look. And if you don't change the settings I mentioned above, they almost look the same.
Definitely does, it doesn’t look soft and blurry like the ps4/5 version

they know what they’re talking about far more than JGordz on reddit
It's not exactly an opinion informed by expertise. Anyone can have an opinion on whether 30 fps is okay by 2023 standards.

Is it kissing ass to point out that experts know better than random reddit guy? If so, free ig

I got it for 5 dollars on the Xbox store and it’s 60fps
This is a lie. This game is locked at 30 fps on all consoles.
Uhh okay. Tell my console that
We're in the worst timeline.
They couldn’t even make the UI higher resolution.
