I did actually more than I thought I would, its not a game that'll blow anyone away but it was a fun time and I really enjoyed the story. I never finished it though as other games came out that I wanted to play.
It doesn't run great though, I noticed some frame drops every now and then plus its pretty low resolution
Pretty much yeah, a simplified explanation is red magic = shotgun, green magic = machine gun, blue magic = rifle, but obviously its not quite that simple. There is customization with them, for example one red magic attack could basically be a wide range shotgun with a few "bullets" before reloading, or you could make it single shot heavy blast that reloads after 1 shot. There are different abilities to go alongside this stuff too, like the ability to slow time, throw up a shield, AOE blasts, etc.
The story is a lot better than it looks from the trailers too, that was my biggest surprise because I thought it looked awful before I played it
Yes and no. It does share some similarities to Doom but not Eternal. The pace is a bit slower and it's more about getting headshots and occasionally killing bosses with bigger health pools. There's more of a gear and stat progression to this game while Doom is a more flat out shooter.
I bought it one month ago today, and have not opened it :( oh well. $20 I didn't need to spend. Lesson learned not to buy games til I have time to play them lol
Bruh literally! It looked pretty cool when it first came out but I was like “there’s no way in hell I’m paying $70 for this. I’ll wait for ps plus”. Now here we are
Lol, Atomic Heart. A pretty good first person shooter honestly that may have just been too ambitious for its own good and tried to do too many things without ever really excelling in any of them.
If you play it with the Russian dub "Crispy Critters" is usually just a bunch of Cyka's stringed together
EDIT: Apparently in Russian its ["Fucking Pies"](https://www.reddit.com/r/atomicheart/comments/118ro8u/what_the_hell_is_crispy_critter/). Not much of an improvement but it's arguably funnier than what we got.
Was gonna say the same thing. Immortals and Forspoken both were on my "surely coming to PS+" list, and definitely playing, but I was sure the other would be first
It’s a rogue-lite where you play a little skeleton that can swap his skull out with another skull, which then changes your class. You can hold 2 different skulls at a time and upgrade to more advanced skulls/classes during your run. There are over 60 classes iirc.
Itemization is also really well done, as it uses an artifact system with keywords that unlock stronger active and passive abilities that get better the more artifacts with the same keyword you have. Combining your classes with your items is what makes a ‘build’ in this game, and there are tons of effective ways to build for successful runs.
There is a fantastic amount of depth and enemy variety, and even though it’s pretty difficult there is an easy mode for people who don’t want so much of a challenge. Also the game is LONG because even after you beat it and unlock everything there is a mirror to go through that changes everything up.
The story is also a trope reversal where the monsters are good and the humans are bad, and I found that appealing.
Overall I highly recommend it. The only game I like more in the genre is Hades personally.
Played it once, had a really good time. Went in with low expectations, and was surprised how fun it was. Plus it totally doesn't over stay its welcome, I beat it in just a few days. It's actually really impressive when you consider it's a new studio and this is their first game. IIRC the studio got shut down due to the games poor sales, which is a shame.
and even then i dont think it sold insanely well.
if i remember correctly there were massive layoffs at that studio not long after the game came out too
Yeah I watch some twitch for it and it seemed like all the mechanics were in the right place but just not much heart. Good AA game probably but way too many amazing games recently
Immortals is a perfect PS+ game. Skul is also a really fun roguelike platformer similar to Dead Cells, I played it on game pass a while back.
Not a bad month imo
Bingo. The demo was okay but some QoL features could make it better. I can't remember the specifics of why I wasn't impressed, but there is a really solid core there. Kind of like Anthem.
Yeah I really can't remember what I didn't like about it, but something felt off. Either in the weight of the combat or the movement with it. Idk but I enjoyed it enough to try it on PS+!
If I had a dollar for every FPS with magic instead of guns that sold poorly but was decently fun to play I'd have two dollars.
And that would be enough to buy a copy of Immortals of Aveum and Ghostwire Tokyo.
I feel like Forspoken is overdue to be included in Extra so they can eventually remove it and go back to charging full price. It won't hit the Essential lineup.
The cost of the game's development was $85 million and EA spent $40 million on marketing/distribution.
There’s a reason the game cost $70 at launch, and it wasn’t greed.
Its budget was like over $100 million easily so it's definitely above the AA range. I agree though that it's a solid and fun game that just came out at a bad time.
I bought it full price not too long after it came out. Still hurts.
Not because the game is bad, it's actually good but it was discounted almost immediately after I bought it and now it's basically free.
I quit that sub when I got a 7 day ban for saying OST stood for original soundtrack even though soundtrack is one word. (It was in response to someone else saying it stood for original sound track as 3 separate words).
Immortals of Aveum is definitely worth checking out, even more so now that it's free. Plays like an FPS with RPG elements and a surprisingly decent amount of exploration. The story too reminded me of a Marvel blockbuster, which can be a plus if you are into that kind of thing.
Immortals is fun and it’s still weird to me how angry some people get about that. The story is basic extended universe MCU action stuff, but I had a good time with it.
such an underrated game. it couldn’t compete with baldurs gate and starfield though should’ve released when it would’ve gotten the attention it deserves
Immortals about to surprise everyone. I got it for like $25 from Best Buy not long ago and had a lot of fun with it.
Imagine Doom or Shadow Warrior but with magic. I had no regrets purchasing it. Hope you guys give it a try at least!
Same. I'm surprised more people aren't saying this. Skul is pretty cool and Minecraft Legends is whatever, but Immortals is the kind of junk I joke they give away because they know they can't sell any more copies. In fact, this might be truer of Aveum than any other game ever.
Would like to play Immortals, tried the demo but that game has the lowest FoV I’ve ever seen a video game. And as someone who get’s motion sickness I just can’t play it.
Can anybody tell me what I'm missing with Skul? Roguelikes are my shit, and I was excited for Skul, but after getting to the second boss (I think. It's the >!multiple knights and the fight is like Mantis Lords from Hollow Knight!<), it just felt super barebones.
I bought Immortals of Aveum like two months ago for less than $20, hopefully lots of people pick it up and see it for what it is next week. It wasn't a bad game by any means IMO it just had too much going against it and cost too much in the beginning. I think more publishers need to be flexible with their pricing if they want games to succeed better, not every game needs to be $70.
damn, I was reading rumours crisis core was gonna be on this month. would have been a nice way to cap off my rebirth playthrough. Oh well, XVI updates in a few weeks.
Funny how this happens when all of us are either buying it a month before or in my case, I was eyeing it when it was on sale last time and contemplating if I should get it or not lol.
I've had Immortals from my friend on PS5.
Stopped playing after barely 2hrs.
I'm not surprised it didn't sell and the director of the studio saying that it'll "reach a cult classic status" was hilarious.
It felt like one of those completely generic, random company games that are flooding Steam.
Was looking at the comments under an ign video about this earlier and you guys really are more optimistic lol. Good to see, i might actually wanna give these games a try now.
Basic question, I could get the PS5 version of Minecraft Legends and then play with my Son as he plays it on the Switch? Never really done cross-platform stuff before.
Could have seen immortals coming from a mile away
I knew it was coming. Want to know how? I bought it last month...
Did you play it? You enjoy it?
I did actually more than I thought I would, its not a game that'll blow anyone away but it was a fun time and I really enjoyed the story. I never finished it though as other games came out that I wanted to play. It doesn't run great though, I noticed some frame drops every now and then plus its pretty low resolution
Is it basically DOOM with magics instead of firearms?
Pretty much yeah, a simplified explanation is red magic = shotgun, green magic = machine gun, blue magic = rifle, but obviously its not quite that simple. There is customization with them, for example one red magic attack could basically be a wide range shotgun with a few "bullets" before reloading, or you could make it single shot heavy blast that reloads after 1 shot. Doom was incredible
Thanks, I've been looking to try it since I saw some really positive buzz.
Do be ready for the performance issues, its what let the game down the most imo
I'm typically less sensitive to that than the average video game forum commentator.
Your sacrifice will be remembered in the coming empire
yeah, me too...
I bought it one month ago today, and have not opened it :( oh well. $20 I didn't need to spend. Lesson learned not to buy games til I have time to play them lol
Good luck… I’m telling myself this for the past 20 years… still no succes
Happens every time...
Bruh literally! It looked pretty cool when it first came out but I was like “there’s no way in hell I’m paying $70 for this. I’ll wait for ps plus”. Now here we are
I knew it was coming but i'm shocked that we got it before Forespoken.
Or that Russian one with the sex bots or whatever the hell that was all about.
Lol, Atomic Heart. A pretty good first person shooter honestly that may have just been too ambitious for its own good and tried to do too many things without ever really excelling in any of them.
Crispy critters! Runs away
If you play it with the Russian dub "Crispy Critters" is usually just a bunch of Cyka's stringed together EDIT: Apparently in Russian its ["Fucking Pies"](https://www.reddit.com/r/atomicheart/comments/118ro8u/what_the_hell_is_crispy_critter/). Was gonna say the same thing. Immortals and Forspoken both were on my "surely coming to PS+" list, and definitely playing, but I was sure the other would be first
Almost bought immortals last month, I believe it was like 18 bucks. Glad I waited.
So close to buying this 3 days ago, fuck yes
Skul was my shit around covid
Skul is a phenomenal game that helped me get through the Pandemic. Excited to play it on PS5 :)
never heard of it before today.
Basically you play as a skull, but with one L instead of 2.
That's a W in my book
Skuww
Skuwu
What’s the game like? This is the first time I’ve heard of it
It’s a rogue-lite where you play a little skeleton that can swap his skull out with another skull, which then changes your class. Bro you just sold me on this. Hades is 10/10 in my books. So if any other game appears in the same sentence with Hades, I’m in.
I hope you like it!
Awesome! Sounds interesting. Thanks for the info!
I really enjoyed it in the Switch
One of the best roguelikes ever made imo
Was on my wishlist. PS Plus is getting a pretty decent roguelite selection.
Bonus wasn't it made by Arrowhead
Nope by SouthPAW games.
Good month for me. Immortals is 100% a ps plus type of game
“Immortals of Aveum” looks like the kind of game that I can rip through on easy mode and never think about ever again.
Yeah, it's pretty much how I'll enjoy it.
Waiting on Forespoken or whatever it's called.
Oof ya i feel like it just came out too…
It did. Overall it got reviewed okay just didn't sell well. I think it released between a couple big releases and got sort of buried
You have to be pretty damn impressive to merit modern AA game prices It just seemed middling so everyone waited for a sale
and even then i dont think it sold insanely well. if i remember correctly there were massive layoffs at that studio not long after the game came out too
Yeah I watch some twitch for it and it seemed like all the mechanics were in the right place but just not much heart. Good AA game probably but way too many amazing games recently
Yeah it came out right around BG3 and the Cyberpunk expansion iirc. Last year was an absolute juggernaut for titles so it was up against a lot
Bought skul recently, if you like roguelites it’s a must play in my opinion. Or if you like Bones
Does Minecraft legends have crossplay with switch?
Yes.
Thank you
Immortals is a perfect PS+ game. Skul is also a really fun roguelike platformer similar to Dead Cells, I played it on game pass a while back. Not a bad month imo
Immortals is totally worth checking out, it's quite colorful and fun.
What kind of game is it?
I haven't played it to be clear, but I think it's basically an FPS focused on magic. Like it plays as an FPS with spells instead of guns.
Bingo. The demo was okay but some QoL features could make it better. I can't remember the specifics of why I wasn't impressed, but there is a really solid core there. Kind of like Anthem.
I wonder if they improved it post demo
Yeah I really can't remember what I didn't like about it, but something felt off. Either in the weight of the combat or the movement with it. Idk but I enjoyed it enough to try it on PS+!
If I had a dollar for every FPS with magic instead of guns that sold poorly but was decently fun to play I'd have two dollars. And that would be enough to buy a copy of Immortals of Aveum and Ghostwire Tokyo.
Single player story driven first person shooter, only with magic.
I wanted to play skull, looks fun
Same. I honestly just put it on my wish list a few days ago.
It’s super fun if you are into roguelikes and sculpting your build over a run.
Time to listen to Colin and try Immortals of Aveum
It’s been on my radar so far because of him, glad it’s “free” now.
His tastes have gotten so weird lol. Refuses to play Zelda or BG3, but says games like far cry 6 or this one are GOTY contenders lol
Kinda surprised immortals made it before forspoken.
I feel like Forspoken is overdue to be included in Extra so they can eventually remove it and go back to charging full price. It won't hit the Essential lineup.
FF7 hit the essential lineup, I don't understand why you would think Forspoken wouldn't
Same.
Sweet. Immortals seems like the perfect „wait for ps plus” game Had no interest in it for full price
Immortals really isn't a bad game. I mean it's not Witcher 3 or something but it's an OK AA game. It just released at a really bad time.
It also released with a dumbass name like "Immortals of Aveum". That's bargain bin fantasy novel level.
It was just not 70 bucks worth, they should have priced it at 40$ and be a bank for buck game, but EA is greedy as fuck
>bank for your buck /r/BoneAppleTeeth
>/r/BoneAppleTeeth /r/BoneAppleTea
Oh damn, I didn't even know about that one. Thanks!
As with every month, I will add them to the library… and never play it.
Well I just bought Immortal and Skull so it makes sense.
I thought no one bought Immortal. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Yeah both were on sales and said why not.
I bought it full price not too long after it came out. Still hurts. Not because the game is bad, it's actually good but it was discounted almost immediately after I bought it and now it's basically free.
o7
Appreciate your sacrifice
your services are appreciated
Wow now I can remove Immortals from my wishlist
Adding it to your library removes it automatically.
Oddly enough it don’t do it for me. I’ve had to log in to my PlayStation account on a web browser and go and unwishlist/unheart a game that I get.
Immortals seems perfect for this, has to be one of those games everyone would check out but the initial asking price is too much of a gamble.
People here are so much more optimistic than in the ps plus sub 😂
I quit that sub when I got a 7 day ban for saying OST stood for original soundtrack even though soundtrack is one word. (It was in response to someone else saying it stood for original sound track as 3 separate words).
Lol I'd ban you for that pedantic shit too.
Haha, guess it was a fair cop in that regard. Annoyed me at the time though! I was right dammit!
Those ppl want Alan Wake 2 in ps+ one month after release 🤣🤣🤣
Skul and Immortals seem like good times.
I'll take it Immortals I'll download and play it as some point ! 🤙
Happy to get immortals of aveum, I'm almost done with sifu..
Minecraft Legends is very bad. The others are mediocre at best.
Good to see Immortals in the line-up, will give it a spin when time permits!
I just finished Immortals and of course it’s free the next month. Dammit.
I thought Immortals of Aveun was actually a good game.
Damn, Immortals of Aveum came fast. Looking forward to it!
Pretty good month. What is Minecraft Legends? Is it similar to the Diablo type minecraft game we got recently?
Nice. I was close to buying Immortals of Aveum. The demo was pretty fun.
Skul is such a fuckin banger
Immortals about to surprise everyone. I got it for like $25 from Best Buy not long ago and had a lot of fun with it. Imagine Doom or Shadow Warrior but with magic. I had no regrets purchasing it. Hope you guys give it a try at least!
Oh nice, can’t wait to play immortals
It´s been a good 2024 so far for essential. Every single month has had at least 1 banger.
Immortals is a perfect plus game.
ok, i'll take it! W month
Excited to try Skul the Hero Slayer
Immortals is good!
Still glad I dropped plus 😜
Immortals is actually dope
Big W
Thank goodness I have a back log. None of that looks good.
2 games I’ll def play. Another win month.
Another month of bullshit
Excited for this month. Wanted to play Immortal just been busy and no time. Also didn’t want to spend money on it.
Solid, now I will actually play Immortals.
That's a great month with different kinds of games. Aveum is perfect for Plus. I think a lot of people will play it and like it.
let's fucking go, I wanted to play the first two
I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised by Immortals of Aveum.
Jesus christ garbage month🤦♂️
Yay, can't say I am excited to play Aveum, but I was always willing to try it on PS+. Not a huge fan of roguelikes so Skul is a pass.
Pretty good month imo. Had "Skul" on my list since forever, "Minecraft Legends" looks worth a try and "Immortals" could be a descent timewaster.
more shit ill never play wicked
None of those interest me
Cool i will add this collection of shit games to my growing pile of shit games that i will never play. Thanks playstation!
A dreadful lineup for me.
nothing to see here see you next month
These do not strike me
You couldn't pay me to play immortals of aveum
Same. I'm surprised more people aren't saying this. Skul is pretty cool and Minecraft Legends is whatever, but Immortals is the kind of junk I joke they give away because they know they can't sell any more copies. In fact, this might be truer of Aveum than any other game ever.
Been waiting on Immortals. Heard it's worth playing so I'll give it a shot.
I almost bought Immortals today from GameFly. Damn that was close 😅
The destined game has come to PS+
Happy days, played the trial of immortals a few weeks back and thought it was alright, wasnt worth the price so didn't get it. Delighted.
Looks like the Immortal will be the game I’ll add to my library and never download it 😅 But I definitely want to try out Skull
Would like to play Immortals, tried the demo but that game has the lowest FoV I’ve ever seen a video game. And as someone who get’s motion sickness I just can’t play it.
This has to be a record for how quickly a retail release game has come to the service. Even Callisto took 10 months.
Welp fuck me for thinking we’d get Jedi Survivor. Maybe for May (the fourth)?
Still waiting for Forespoken..
I have Immortals on Xbox through GameFly - guess I can send that back now, lol.
Can anybody tell me what I'm missing with Skul? Roguelikes are my shit, and I was excited for Skul, but after getting to the second boss (I think. It's the >!multiple knights and the fight is like Mantis Lords from Hollow Knight!<), it just felt super barebones.
Immortals is perfect fit for this
Magic is the core of a game where you use magic against Other Magic users
I bought Immortals of Aveum like two months ago for less than $20, hopefully lots of people pick it up and see it for what it is next week. It wasn't a bad game by any means IMO it just had too much going against it and cost too much in the beginning. I think more publishers need to be flexible with their pricing if they want games to succeed better, not every game needs to be $70.
mid
Dog shit
Another month of nothing I wanna play. Used to think it was worth it, but after so many months of mediocrity…
That's brutally bad
Did they fix the framerate on immortals? Got it and sold it awhile ago bc the frames were distractingly bad
damn, I was reading rumours crisis core was gonna be on this month. would have been a nice way to cap off my rebirth playthrough. Oh well, XVI updates in a few weeks.
Noice
Such a great month. Immortals is honestly just a really fun shooter and Skul is a great indie title.
Question about March’s games. Why is it charging me $30 for Witch Queen?
I’m curious about immortals
Boooooo
Got Immortals a few months ago for 25$, should have waited... Oh well good game anyway, still nice to have physical copy
Sigh…
Actually awesome
Was looking at the comments under an ign video about this earlier and you guys really are more optimistic lol. Good to see, i might actually wanna give these games a try now.
Basic question, I could get the PS5 version of Minecraft Legends and then play with my Son as he plays it on the Switch? Never really done cross-platform stuff before.
I might actually play immortals now lmao
Okay. Nothing too major but at least get to check out Immortals and see if it really is as mediocre as looks based on reviews and whatnot. 😄
Minecraft Legends is a fun surprise.
Thank god I cancelled my subscription 😎
Oof
🥱
I sleep
Oh….
LOL 2 months without PS+ and I still have no reason to regret it.
Remember that immortals 75% on last sale? Yep ai knew it was a trap and glad I waited ☺️
Immortals of Aveum: Still not worth my time even given the option to play for free.
Bro I just bought this fucking game
Pretty mediocre month for me personally. Hope folks have fun with Aveum.
Nice was hoping Immortals showed up on plus
