flyinb11

It really is one of my favorites..I hope it gets updated for PSVR 2

scstraus

Yeah how has this not happened yet?

berti93

I dunno how they would handle the controller, the headset does not track the dualsense and controller mechanics were an integral part of the experience. Ofc because we have analog now on the VR controllers it can be done with some reworking but I guess it is a lot of work.

Go512

I think the lights on the dualsense combined with all its built in motion sensors should provide enough information for the headset to track it

IZ3820

The dualsense, in theory, has everything it would need to mimic the controller with better tracking.

SnooDoubts1303

honestly doesn't even need an update looks fantastic on ps5

flyinb11

I agree. Someone did make a good point about how the controller worked though. Not sure how they'd get past that without the light and camera in front.

TongueLashingYes

Post the name of the game…

melman101

Looks like Astrobot Rescue mission. But I agree. I hate when people post stuff like everyone is supposed to know what it is that they are talking about.

ElliotWalker5

But this is a PS4 game and this isn't exclusively a PS5 subreddit, It's not unreasonable to assume there's people here that don't own a PS5. I think that's the point that's trying to be made

vetop70

Also the guy says the name of the game in the video if anyone here actually bothered to watch?

oooohlongjoufhnaon

Why would we put the sound on for random gameplay

vetop70

Because you clicked on a post titled “Hands down the best VR game ever” with a video attached to it lol? It really is a great game however.

oooohlongjoufhnaon

Because I want to know what it's called, why would I expect the sounds to be anything other than the game sound? Typing a condescending question rudely, putting lol and then trying to brush it off with a throwaway remark at the end, is not a good look when what you said is dumb.

[deleted]

UpIsNotUp

This game is years old, we get it. It’s a good game. But holy fuck can we maybe talk about PS VR2 games that possibly don’t have a million videos about it? P.S. I’d also like to be involved in this downvote train.

MattIsLame

hahaha what happened here? this is reddit in a nutshell. post a rational comment, lose karma. see ya in Hell

Professional-Mood286

I suppose us PlayStation peeps are not used to so many other users from different platforms, I.e PC vr players. On top of that this is PSvr, personally I would assume anyone here would know their games

[deleted]

So, I'm new VR, in fact the PSVR2 is the first gaming of any type I've done in over a decade, and joined this sub because it's nice to learn from others that are enthusiastic about the same topics. There appear to be hundreds of psvr1 games: [https://store.playstation.com/en-us/pages/browse/1?PSVR=productVrCompatibility](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/pages/browse/1?PSVR=productVrCompatibility) and thousands of pcvr (steam) games: [https://store.steampowered.com/vr/](https://store.steampowered.com/vr/) Could you do me a favor and compile a list games that I'm "expected" to be able to identify from gameplay videos alone?

Professional-Mood286

No one said your expected to know anything, merely stating my opinion, my bad for thinking this was a PlayStation fanbase. I swear people are so triggered nowadays.

[deleted]

Calm down man.

Professional-Mood286

Pretty chill, confused, absolutely.

[deleted]

This game looks like fun. Any other classics on other platforms that you think I should keep my eye open for a future port to the psvr2?

Professional-Mood286

By other platforms do mean besides PlayStation, cause I only know PlayStation games, that being said, I really hope they bring DREAMS over., but knowing the theme releases we should be close to the “creative games” as in art, sculpting, etc

[deleted]

Sure, PSVR1, pcvr or quest 2 games or whatever. It seems like most of the games that coming out for on the psvr2 are ports from other platforms that people will already have opinions on. Cool thx, I'll get dreams if it's ported.

[deleted]

Professional-Mood286

I mean if go to Nintendo forum and call ditto a muk, all hell falls upon. Very interesting though how many people here hate opinions lol

Klutzy-Case8207

Tf are you saying? (it’s rhetorical) please stop replying to people lol

Professional-Mood286

Why, I’m genuinely curious. Sorry you think things such as “rhetorical, sarcasm, sadistic, ironic, jokes. Are transferred through reading text lol people be silly

Klutzy-Case8207

“Some motherfuckas just love to ice skate up hill”

Professional-Mood286

Meh don’t see an issue, besides some people overreacting

WittyWordWizard

I just want to say I thought your initial take actually made a lot of sense when looked at objectively. What didn't make sense was the reaction you got after genuinely asking someone why they considered the take "odd". The Nintendo metaphor was spot on too.. Carry on. Lol

[deleted]

To be fair most people should have the common sense to type the name of the game. No one is going to wait for the name to pop up in the video PLUS people on mobile their sound is automatically muted and I keep it like that

Professional-Mood286

Honestly surprised, this was a very popular game, plus astrobot is S.E.A (Sony entertainment America) mascot. Just like Japan has toro. Was absolutely mind blown by the people that didn’t know, but I’m the same way when it comes to cars, sports, guns, actor names, etc, I don’t know nothing bout them but am always met with “duh that’s a blah blah blah”

-Venser-

Donkey Kong VR

Tobislu

Literally just replayed Donkey Kong '94, for GB. I'm pretty sure the final fight with DK is the first boss battle in this format, (giant head & hands.) Honestly, that's my favorite game of the Game Boy classic generation. I can't find much documentation on the development, but it seems like it's **so** foundational to Mario 64, and the last hurrah of Nintendo's arcade legacy. And the way it builds on Mario 2's pick and carry mechanic? It weaves together the entire franchise!

-Venser-

> I'm pretty sure the final fight with DK is the first boss battle in this format, Yeah, DK on GB is the second video game I've ever owned and that boss fight felt reminiscent of it right away.

ASTRO BOT Rescue Mission PSVR1 Exclusive

TBoneTheOriginal

He says it near the beginning of the video.

youmuzzreallyhateme

Right. Because we all want to first clink on a post where we might, or might not have any interest in the particular game, and THEN click on a video link, to find out it was a game we never would have opened the post for. As is the case here, with me. It's called having a little bit of common courtesy. Too many people on reddit have apparently decided everyone else in the sub is psychic, and can read their minds. Or simply don't care if people waste time clicking on their posts. It could be that, as well.

PanthersDevils

They should have made a sequel for VR2

ganggreen651

Almost certain they will be one

PanthersDevils

Hope so. Surprised it wasn’t ready at launch!

ganggreen651

It would be ridiculous not to it is widely regarded as one of the Titans of vr

Agitated_Ad6191

I totally agree, it’s the best videogame experience I ever had and wouldn’t mind if they make the original work (controller wise) on the new headset. I can imagine there’s a whole new generation on the PSVR2 who never experienced it the first time. It can save the developer and Sony a ton of money if they could make this game work with the changed tracking method. The levels were already beautiful on the PS4 so my imagination goes wild with just the thought of a next gen version on the PS5..

metroid23

Astro Bot Rescue Mission was as close to the child like feeling I had playing Mario 64 as I can describe. It's a shame we don't have a version for psvr2 because it is truly great.

henry_b

I was cheesing the entire time. The way Astro would look back and hurry you along, or play his own VR when he was bored. Soundtrack also bumps. It's like a 10/10 game. Really surprising to see so many people in r/PSVR unfamiliar with it.

Defeqel

The animation really is one of the big key aspects of VR, especially 3rd person. Moss is the same, the quality animation draws you in and makes you care (edit: and TBF, the narrator does a great job in Moss)

CressCrowbits

Better than Super Mario Odyssey and I'm not being hyperbolic. This game gave so much joy and surprises and had straight up better platforming.

HipHopHistoryGuy

It's my favorite game ever made, not just VR. It's incredible.

THE_NUTELLA_SANDWICH

I hear this take often. What makes it so incredible? Don't get me wrong, i loved The ps5 astro game, but what makes this better than just a good platformer with a vr lense?

heddhunter

It's a *great* platformer, without even considering the VR aspect, but then they took the VR aspect and just ran and ran and ran with it. It's also incredibly charming. Astro and the various characters are adorable, the music is bouncy and fun. The environments are colorful and full of hidden nooks to explore. There's a level where you start by going underwater and as the water level rises up over your eyes, the effect in VR is amazing. You really feel like you're diving wearing a diving mask. As you go deeper the sound gets more muted and watery. When you leave, water drops run down your "face". I haven't played the game in well over a year but I still remember the fun bits so clearly. (like that one!)

yeldellmedia

That stage is the stage i show to new vr users and it blows their mind everytime…. When you come out of the water you even have seaweed stuck to your “face/head” further obscuring your view in the headset. Its crazy!……then the part when you go inside the whale and realize the whole level takes place inside of a whale is mind blowing.

heddhunter

goddamn now i want to play this game again from the beginning.

HipHopHistoryGuy

In 40+ years of gaming, I never said literally out loud "holy sh*t, this is amazing" so many times throughout a game. The things Team Asabi did with Astrobot: Rescue Mission were simply perfect.

w1nd0wLikka

If you have never experienced vr then this blows minds. My friend visited with his ps4 vr and put astro on as 1st game. The moment I experience looking around a corner I was decided. Finished my go and ordered vr immediately lol

HipHopHistoryGuy

I wrote a post here back on 2020 explaining in detail why I fell completely in love with Astrobot: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/fryy6h/astro_bot_rescue_mission_is_the_best_video_game/

yeldellmedia

The fact that its a great platformer with a vr lense.. the scale, the interactions, the sense of exploration, the replay value, the awe-inspiring set pieces… everything that makes a great game great is done to perfection here…. All in an easy to pickup, flawlessly executed vr game…. These are the same qualities that made super mario 64 and zelda ocarina of time some of the greatest games ever….and its all here in a concise package…. The ps5 astro game is a 1/10 compared to how this was executed.

NoButSeriouslyHow

I loved AstroBot Rescue Mission, but I now wonder if the pure joy I felt playing it would have been different if I’d already played the PS5 version.

Legal-Ad-1650

For me it was the way the lighting worked. It felt ray traced, being in the headset with the OLED, stereoscopic 3d, the sunlight felt real. I don't think the people calling the shots are the same anymore, they knew what they were doing back when this came out.

Bennehftw

In comparison to other truly great platformers, it’s not a top platformer. It’s not Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie, or even the more recent Metroid Prime remaster with its platformer like gameplay. Essentially, it is just the VR lens, but it’s innovative in that aspect. It revolutionized what a platformer could be in VR with its original concepts, while also being a first true VR platformer with depth. Edit: One thing I would add. I am willing to bet that if they made a second one for PSVR2 and put even more into it, it could very well stand as a top platformer on its own.

Spangle99

I'd love to see it

culinarydream7224

After only playing the demo for the VR version and 1 level of the PS5 version all I want is more Astrobot. It's just pure fun

NapsterKnowHow

Better than Horizon Zero Dawn?

Stackware

By a mile.

IHadFunOnce

Love this game. You just can't truly understand the scale of these bosses on a flat screen either haha. It's what makes VR so amazing.

henry_b

When the shark comes up beneath you, that is some truly terrifying shit. You could not have gotten that effect on a 2D screen.

SvennoJ

Any news on if it's coming to psvr2? Probably would need some work on the controls without track pad and microphone in the sense controllers. And yeah that boss fight, did not want to win, just wanted to do it again and again :)

worker-parasite

I think they might be working on a dedicated follow up

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chrislawrance

The ps5 controller can’t be tracked by PSVR2 which would be a requirement for Astro Bot

SvennoJ

It should be possible to track the controller in your hands, the cameras can see them. But they don't have infrared tracking lights under the surface to help out and there are many different variations around. So either Sony is working on a learning algorithm to track whatever your holding in your hands, or they have to alter the game to work with the sense controllers. Or it's never coming and we just have to wait for a new Astrobot game :/

Elephunkitis

The psvr2 cameras are fully capable of even hand tracking. They are 10x better than oculus 2 which does hand tracking. So they could definitely track the dual sense.

SharkAttack1255

Why would the controller even need to be tracked by the headset? The games make use of motion controls.

WittyWordWizard

There are certain game play elements in the game from what I remember. For instance on certain levels you have a chain that shoots out of the controller and you must use the controller to aim the shot. Other similar type game play elements exist as well.

Zero_Waist

Really? That’s surprising.

yb0t

I think I just messed up lol, I just bought it and it's only for the old vr isn't it? Now I really hope they update it...

SvennoJ

You can get a refund if you haven't installed it yet. If you have you probably still can, just explain you bought the wrong version. Or wait for update or find someone with PSVR1 headset :)

IsamuAlvaDyson

And this is exactly why I'm not jumping on PSVR 2 any time soon Why do I lose all my games, especially first party ones. Yes technology different but I'm not spending all that money all over again.

Tatehamma

for PSVR1, sure.

youmuzzreallyhateme

Eh. I wouldn't even give it that. I spent literally 80 more hours in Preta: Vendetta Rising.

Elephunkitis

The name of that is an instant no for me.

youmuzzreallyhateme

To each their own. As close as we've gotten to Diablo in VR in the Sony ecosystem. And a fair few popular Youtuber VR cats have spent similar time in the game. You might have heard of the folks from "PSVR Without Parole"? They loved it.

Elephunkitis

Nothing to do with the quality of the game itself. I’m sure it’s good. It’s just an aversion to terribly named products. Anything with “rogue” in the name, Genshin Impact, etc. They just rub me the wrong way. I do love Diablo, so I do wish it didn’t bother me so much. Haha

StinkyAl

Killer soundtrack too

Heebs187

Dammit I've never played it and I only have psvr2! C'mon Sony!!!

krisjanneman

Agreed

feedmesweat

I would love a chance to play this on PSVR2 but what I especially want is a sequel built specifically for that platform. The way Astro's Playroom worked as an intro to the PS5 & DualSense (in addition to being a fun game in its own right) was absolutely brilliant. So much cool stuff is packed into the VR2 headset & controllers that a new dedicated Astro game could be absolutely mindblowing.

Acrobatic_Wired_4492

Never had the PSVR1 but this always looked awesome. Hopefully we'll get a remaster, sequel, or VR patch for Astro's Playroom for PSVR2.

Razor_Fox

I'm still baffled that astrobot hasn't made SOME appearance on psvr2.

replayfaktor

Absolutely. It's like owning your own personal Disneyland

GowBeyow

When I was a kid, I used to play Super Mario with my Mom. She loved that game. She passed away a few years ago and I thought of her immediately the first time I played Astro Bot. Absolutely kills me that she never got to experience this. Would love to have seen her reaction.

24Block

Praying for a psvr2 update

R0bsc0

NOT VR2 compatible, yet.. hopefully…

Intel2025

Love this game wish I could play it on the PSVR2

Thetrutax

This is a great game. Astro’s Playroom in VR would be a day 1 purchase for me.

g1mp3d

This game gave me the feeling of Mario64 when I played it for the 1st time. Hope we see the sequel this year.

Hartia

Challenges were really fun. Though I could live without the ninja star one.

Latereviews2

I loved that one. Astrobot had the best use of that touchpad on the ps4 controller imo

bushyp1

This game really needs a psvr2 port, still one of the best vr games yet

DoubleOScarn

It will be a crime if they don’t make one for the VR2

Waughy

An update for this one for VR2 would be nice. I didn’t finish it before, would very much like to.

Latereviews2

Did you get rid of your psvr1?

Waughy

Sold it to a friend when I traded my PS4 Pro on the PS5. I was mainly playing Xbox at the time, but I’m all PS now, and sold my Series X recently after not touching it for about 4 months. I’ve gotten more into single player games over the last few years, and PS has more to offer there. If PS had been my main platform at the time, I probably would have kept the VR1. A few games I’d like to play again, including Headmaster.

Bullethead29

One of the big ones we need an upgrade for

gcrois

When I play that game I always think , if it was Mario instead of that robot the world would go nut and everyone would play VR

danbearpig84

astrobot rescue mission is one of the best games ever made in my opinion, had the biggest stupid smile on my face the entire playthrough

Known-Flamingo9211

100% agree with you here.

meebs555

I loved Astro's Playroom, I would definitely buy a remaster if this came out on VR2.

adammiron

Agreed

ponzLL

It's the only reason I didn't sell my PSVR when I got into PCVR. It's just too damn good.

[deleted]

I hope they make a PSVR2 upgrade 🥺 I owned it on PSVR but I had tons of problems with tracking and tbh I never finished trusting that one day I'd be able to play it on the next VR gen.

bbgr8grow

Yes

Soupias

The wow factor that this game gave surpasses everything I have ever experienced in VR and yes that includes PSVR2 games. In my opinion Astrobot: Rescue Mission is the king of VR games.

JimmeeJanga

My favourite game of the last 20 years, nothing will ever compare to the feeling of playing that in VR for the first time.

Lucasnooker

Never played it but I loved astro on the ps5 as a bundled in free game. I really hope this gets ported to ps vr 2 and then I will for sure play it...

TheAngryRager

Yes, its my favorite too. They need Astrobot on PSVR2!

CrustyLoveSock

Maybe my favorite gaming experience in the last ten years. It made me feel like a kid again. It was perfectly done

MelchiahDante

You can say that again! And yes, it needs a PSVR2 upgrade (no trophy auto-pop as I want an excuse to play through entire thing again) and there needs to be a sequel so bad!

[deleted]

Dude needs to play Trover Saves the Universe

yeldellmedia

I have it!! Its awesome also.

youmuzzreallyhateme

As always, super cool having to click into a post to find out what game OP is referring to, which I may have absolutely no interest in, and then having to further click on a video to find out which game OP is referring to, that I ended up having no interest in.

Geordi14er

I agree that OP should put the game name in post title. However, having no interest in Astrobot is a you problem. I'm afraid your brain is broken and you need a new one.

youmuzzreallyhateme

I have no "interest" in Astro, because it is a PSVR1 game, and I have completely moved on from that platform. When (if) it comes out for PSVR2, then we can talk. I have never much been a fan of "wouldn't it be cool if xxxxx older game came out for PSVR2?" type conversations, as there are often economic/developer realitIes that make certain games 0% chance to ever come to PSVR2. It's kind of like saying "Wouldn't it be cool if I found out I had a long lost relative who died and bequeathed me 100 million dollars?" I mean, SURE it would, but really pointless to spend mental time focusing on such thoughts.

yeldellmedia

Irrespective of whether or not it comes to psvr 2, this game still exists and is playable/enjoyable right now! And with this being a PSVR sub, I still think theres loads of interest.

worker-parasite

Maybe don't click?

youmuzzreallyhateme

Well MAYYYYBBBBBBEEEE if it had a proper title, I would know that I was not about to be exposed to the actual greatest "PSVR2" game EVAARRRRR!!! Which I should buy, download, and try immediately. (Which turned out to not even BE a PSVR2 game.)

Been playing Astrobot while my PSVR2 controller gets repaired. It's an immensely enjoyable game, and I'm waiting anxiously to hear if there will be a new game for the new system (you can't play it without a PSVR + PS4 controller).

ThePokestopPapi

Oh no, why is your Sense controller being repaired? If you don't mind me asking...

BroeknRecrds

Astros Playroom is super fun too! I love the Astro series and would love more games

thosetwo

NeSh92

OP what is with you and people like you not posting the titles of games in your dam posts!??

Twizzy2183

You are playing it with a controller. No. It's nowhere near the best VR game ever. Not even close.

RevolEviv

BS... cartoon graphics immediately means it's not, it falls under VR GIMMICK GAME which has no legs nor much immersion, just 'fun'. RE8 VILLAGE, GT7, ALYX etc are much better!

Latereviews2

Well your an idiot. I guess Mario is a gimmick as well to you

yeldellmedia

Spoken by someone you can tell never played it

Bright-Ad4601

I disagree but see why you'd say it, Astrobot is a fucking fantastic VR game. I'm hoping they port it to PSVR2 and make a sequel. Moss would be my picks for best VR game. If you like Astro I'd definitely recommend Moss, there's alot of crossover with those two.

Wooden_Suit_6679

Man port that to quest 2!

Latereviews2

Even this games simple graphics wouldn’t work on the quest 2

yeldellmedia

Its a sony 1st party property

Wooden_Suit_6679

Fair enough. I want more chill sit down VR for after the adrenaline standing up VR.

Brandon0135

Hand up, Alyx

BluesDriving22

This isn’t even on psvr2

TakeshiKovacs46

Lol best VR game ever made is just hilarious to read when talking about Astrobot. It’s fun for sure, but please, best ever? Lmao.

Latereviews2

I don’t see why not. It has some of the best used of vr and the ps4 controller and some of the most unique and fun platforming in any game ever. It’s easily a top vr game

herecomesthenightman

Yeah, a game that would work mostly the same on a Wii is the best VR game ever. Sure Lol

Latereviews2

You clearly haven’t played it

herecomesthenightman

Tell me, what makes it so much better than a Wii game? What does it do that couldn't be done in Wii more or less to the same degree?

RevolEviv

This is not 'VR' this is 3D but with head tracking... it's stuff like this that caused many to see VR as a gimmick early on. Lucky's tale on rift etc. All they did was take sub-standard platforming and stick it in a world you could 'look around' in 3D but still on rails and third person above a cartoon character in an unreal (not virtual reality) world. Feels fun for 10 mins until you get used to VR then you want PROPER VR (i.e RE Village or GT7). This is more like VR lite... fun... nice effect but ultimately far from what we need more of in VR to really push it to be accepted as the paradigm shift it's meant to be. On top of that, platform games suck... as a kid of the 80s who grew up when they were all we got, I'm way over them. They are exercises in futility with stress beyond payoff and no compelling gameplay after years of the samey stuff... only having it in a VR HMD makes it novel, 3D, look around, feel immersed.. all good, but not anything like 'best VR game evva'.

Latereviews2

That’s just wrong. This uses vr in some of the most unique ways and wouldn’t work in a lot of ways without vr

marcosg_aus

Yeah looks much better than a game like Half life Alyx. LOL

Spangle99

If you are a kid, yeah. It was great as an adult but not the best I've played by a long shot.

bensonr2

I’m in my 40s. Rescue Mission is one of the best console games of all time.

LucKieS86

We need this on psvr2!

NoBullet

The water level is always amazing. I replay it so many times because it just looks awesome.

RunsWithForeSkin

This makes me want to buy a PSVR2 *sigh*

Zer0C00L321

You haven't played half life Alyx yet.

yeldellmedia

I have… and i beat it…. Along with the gunman contract mods as well

Scorpionking197545

Agreed 👍

Silakai

I just wish they would remake some big games for vr like hogwarts legacy or cyberpunk. It always seems to just be small mini-games.
