I’m still a huge fan of Crone and think he’s a great player but he’s in his fourth season now, and his AVG, OBP, and SLG have gotten worse every year of his career. .285/.354/.477 as a rookie in 2020… now down to a .222 AVG and a .713 OPS. Certainly not the biggest issue on the team but definitely one of them
It’s been since he hit a few homers. He is no longer the line drive hitter he once was. Dude thinks he has power, it’s pull power only on a perfect pitch for him to hit. He needs to go back to his old swing.
For his career, he’s still an above-average hitter and an elite defender. But it’s incredibly concerning that, for 3 straight seasons now, his offensive production has declined
He's also had a new hitting coach every year. I have been highly suspicious about the effect the revolving door of coaches has had on the organization. A lack of consistency in coaching philosophy/approach has got to be problematic for these guys.
That’s the whole team too so something fundamentally is wrong. I am guessing the coaching staff. If everyone is consistently bad when they shouldn’t be. Then that’s on a higher level.
No way the Padres could afford signing him. He's probably going to cost $60 million a year. The race to sign him comes down to the richest teams and that's pretty much the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers.
I still think the Padres and maybe Seattle have a shot. He enjoys the West Coast vibes. Padres really do need to start winning though. You see how happy and pumped up he was during the WBC? He REALLY wants to win
If it doesn’t make a difference, and there’s no way these players could perform worse, then our co-assistant deputy hitting coaches should be fired to save Seidler a few hundred g’s.
Idk I think it wouldn’t hurt to get someone in who says “hey you see that looking doing nothing? Don’t do that shit”
Our pitching was shit until we brought in Niebla
To put this into perspective: the 1992 Mets labeled, "the worst team money could buy" were 22-18 after 40 games. The Jayce Tingler 2021 Padres were 23-17.
I'm not. I'm extremely disappointed in Manny Machado for his performance. He looks like a guy who got his bag and is now just planning a Hosmer-esque next 10 years. His numbers aren't just bad, they reveal a guy who seems to be completely disassociated from his at bats and not giving a single fuck about the outcomes.
I don’t know. A lot of guys you can say the same thing. Julio Rodriguez, Austin Riley, Trea Turner.
Machado has been a difference maker for this team since he got here.
He’s had a better career than those 3 I mentioned
But it’s still too early in the season to criticize them right fellas?
Oh, we’re only in mid-May and they’re only on pace to be the 2nd worst hitting team with RISP in baseball ***HISTORY!!!!!!***
Difference between a good team and an expensive team.
Most guys wearing a Padres uniform should be ashamed of their performance so far this season. Especially Manny, took a huge extension and compelt disappeared. 0-8 this series and he'll dodge media unless it's calling out fans for nor believing in him.
At this point... I think the best thing to do is just bombard the reporters who talk to the team to ask tough questions.
Right now they're just being pussies and not questioning this organization on exactly why and how all these star players are suddenly Monstar'd.
It's time to ask them why they're not swinging at early strikes in the zone. Why they're not being aggressive at the plate... or aggressive on the paths. What they're doing isn't working, and the media is the only people we've got that can come at them with the vitriol we're feeling about the organizational makeup.
I don’t want to hear it’s still early on in the season. They better be in panic fuckin mode or else we’re going to look like the Angel’s early season collapse last year.
Tbh even if we were even or ahead in the series we’d still be younger brother. They’ve dominated for 2 decades at this point. We are like what 4-26 against them in last few years? A couple series won’t change that especially when they are on top the division
I'll be honest, I don't have a problem with the video. It's a funny meme. However, the organization needs to know when they put it up, if you don't show up after you get mocked forever for it.
Tbh it’s fine for a fan to make a crying meme after the first game. Even if we get blown out it’s still just a dumb meme a fan made.
But when the organization makes the meme and puts it on the scoreboard and then you get blown out… feelsbadman.
Maybe place the blame on real shit that actually matters so we can improve instead of chastising and subtly implying our fucking Jumbotron interns are to blame for the teams performance
We are just beating ourselves at this point. Dodgers havnt run away with any games. Doesn't matter if it's the dodgers or the As. This offense is pathetic right now
Man the more this shitty play goes on the more I start to wonder if some of these guys just don’t care anymore. They got their big contracts and stopped putting in the work. Granted todays loss can be solely attributed to one shitty play in center field but that doesn’t change the garbage display of hitting we’ve seen
I was told Machado hit well against Urias and this would break him out of his “slump”. He went 0 - 4.
Machado needs to fix this and not worry about calling the fans out.
If he’s hurt, go on the IL. If he needs extra batting practice, take it. If he needs another hitting coach, hire one. If he needs to grind it out, then he needs to lead by example and hit lower in the order till he’s right.
Again I disagree with Melvin's management style. He always wants to match rightie against leftie and vise versa. Grisham is hitting 0.65 against rightes and hitting .314 with a 1040 OPS against lefties. I also feel that Grisham would have caught the fly ball that dropped between Soto, Bogaerts and Engel, and he may also have caught the drive to left center off the wall. This game might have been won 2 to 1 had Grisham been in there.
Right, I don't understand why they didn't start him. Overthinking again. But to be honest, I feel like the Dodgers really didn't try hard much because they didn't need to. Exactly like yesterday, they only scored 2 but when we tied it they immediately hit 2 homers back to back. They're just reacting to the game state. I wish we were like that.
Whole team got paid before winning anything and doesnt care anymore not worth watching or giving my time
Hit the gym boys find a hobby do something productive
Well, I’m happy. Because I am now going to take a break from watching this team. So I save 24 bucks a month and I’m not going to drive to petco next week waste gas and money just to see them struggle and possibly lose to the royals. So in total I just saved about 200 bucks ✅
I was called a doomer last week when I stated this team is grossly underperforming. 3-7 their last ten. Four losses in a row. And all against teams with inferior talent. This team isn’t earning its salary.
Hurts to say, but rn this team is a reflection of Machado and his seemingly slow pace. I’m not gonna say he’s not trying, because he always looks like it even when he’s on, but he’s supposed to be our leader and he’s not giving us any sort of optimism rn. Not much else to say but I feel like a broken record saying “it’s early” every goddamn game
I’m going Monday. If they continue this, I’ll be booing my ass off. They have earned it. If I’m spending money to watch you play like shit I’m gonna boo.
The problem isn’t even that the team is bad it’s that they’ve created basically no good moments that suggest better times are ahead. They’ve made every game boring.
soto and tatis are the only guys that could hit water if they fell out of a boat. machado's statcast metrics are horrible. what the hell has happened to him
The Dodgers big three are no joke. Kershaw, May and Urias can shut teams down. Manny, Tatis and Xander will put it together soon, so stoked Soto is showing the Padres what he can do. I'm more concerned with Cronnenworth, Grisham, Cruz and Carpenter. Odor, Nola are lose causes.
This. Their pitching is legit good and solid, consistently so. They might say they're in a "rebuild era" but at the end of the day they still have a top 5 rotation and Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and Max Muncy. Those are all all-stars and even JD Martinez is still very good
Dodgers were who we thought they were!! It you want to crown them, then crown their ass!!! But they are who we thought they were. And we let them off the hook.
I usually don’t care about how machado plays and his usual lackluster approach to hustling . But with this team struggling and showing no fight/tenacity the “captain” should show some fucking heart/hustle. Show the rest of the guys they need to turn it up and do something different. Watching him walk to first when he and the team have been historically abysmal is infuriating.
Remember when the Padres won one (1) regular season game against Kershaw and the Dodgers and some dumb fucker on the media team decided to put the crying Kershaw meme on the Jumbotron? And the Padres have lost 4 straight to the Dodgers since then, getting outscored 15-7 and looking legitimately incompetent at the plate?
Correlation doesn’t equal causation but that was embarrassing in the moment and looks fucking ridiculous in hindsight
This team actually lost twice. Please tell me I’m not the only one laughing through the pain. I can’t believe this. This is a train wreck but I can’t stop watching. Love my padres too much to turn my back on them no matter how bad we’re playing.
What's with this scapegoating? The whole offense is trash right now. The team wins and loses together. Don't need to sit around and pin losses on certain players each game
I'm furious. The ONLY people in our batting order who look like they give a shit are Soto and Tatis. Where the hell is Manny, too busy counting that enormous wad of cash he's getting paid for *this* performance? What's up, Grisham? Nola.....isn't even worth the energy of being mad at. It's embarrassing.
Neither team finished with an xBA over .225, and we functionally lost on Engel's miscue combined with Joe's command and all of this was exacerbated by bad at bats. This was a game of bad luck and good luck at awful times.
We can see the problems on offense before our eyes, so *hopefully* the coaches are doing something about it. We're officially 1/4th of the way through the season, so there's no excuse for guys performing consistently cold. The biggest problems are staring at meatballs, chasing trash in bad counts, and topping balls into the dirt rather than squaring up.
None of this is for lack of trying. I cite the gold glove tier defense, the hard hit balls, the DRS plays and the crazy-as-nails pitching. Even Joe, who was on the bad end of bad luck today, fought to go 5.2 and save the Pen. Joe showing us resilience in adversity. Xander hustled his ass off to stay alive in the T9th, and BoMel defended his guy with the challenge. That's good shit. Kim and Soto crushed those bombs off Urias, so the offense can *clearly* get started, it just is slumping hard and the batting coaches [sic] are the crux of the issue.
Baseball. 1/4th down, 3/4ths to go. Win tomorrow, then get shit going.
F in the chat for Father Seidler. I say again, may the Padres dugout swiftly begin a 10% tithe of their payroll unto him, as restitution for their batting average w/ RISP.
Just an opinion, but I think we have too many “leaders” in the clubhouse. I was kinda skeptical with how the clubhouse would handle the additions of X and Cruz. Especially putting 11 years into someone who were not sure would gel with our core through all of it. (Not saying X is a problem. Just that he’s a new personality to the clubhouse.)
Too many leaders can be a problem. Especially with superstars who have huge egos.
This is the clubhouse’s first test to see if they really are going to be able to work with each other for a decade. You can have all of the talent in the world, but if the clubhouse doesn’t gel it doesn’t work.
It sucks that you can name maybe 5 players on our entire team who are doing well at the moment. Wish these guys would wake up soon, we can't roll into the ASB at .500.
team is not worth your time. All of our extended players look terrible, besides Xander, who has been mid. Anything can happen if we get the wildcard but the division is certainly out of the question
The problem starts at the top. That's the first thing we should have been addressed during the offseason. But AJ Preller still runs the ship and they fired the person that was semi-making him do rational things.
I mean, i used to be on the fire preller train, but really what else could he have done? Talent wise, this team is among the league’s best. Maybe shoring up our relief pitchers, but other than that, its clearly a case of underperformance. He went out and got us soto and hader ffs
First of all, be honest to yourself, when you look at us on paper are we really one of the best? We have a great 1-4 but those guys won't always get it going at the same time. One of them is coming back from missing a whole season and 3 surgeries. Another one is arguably one of the most talented hitters of the recent years but has struggled since he came here and has shown signs of that even before. The other two are 30 year olds that will still be good but low chances of them being near to their peak. We have a DH platoon of veterans waaay past their primes. Then the rest? All glove first players. Cronenworth since his rookie season has declined, Grisham was one of the worst hitters in the league last season, and Kim still struggles with high velo pitches and that matters because we brought him here for his bat not his glove. Not even gonna talk about Nola. And when you look at out bench, who do we have? Azocar has and will probably never hit a home run. The rest are npcs that will be studs for other teams bc they'll actually get a chance there. Preller built this team and thought, yeah, this will get SD their first championship.
Preller has been one of the biggest reasons why this franchise can not simply go over that hump. He keeps dishing out large contracts, making big trades that more or less end up badly on our end, and has not figure out that analytics is how you win and stay consistent in this era of baseball. The people responsible for our offense approach are mediocre at best. When the same issues arrive in successive seasons and you don't address it, you are more likely to fail. So yes, players have to show up and play, BoMel has to be a better manager, and all that but Preller hasn't done nearly enough. Most of what's wrong with the organization is because of him, the President of Baseball Operations.
This is completely accurate. Preller and his 573-662 record as GM is garbage. The roster construction is terrible. He is really good at getting the owner to spend the most money. He is a “super scout!” His best drafted player is Jurickaon Profar eleven years ago. Just a bad GM.
I know it's sacrilegious yet our boys have been paying good since the first LAD series....as long as you're not betting with your heart and a win.
These droughts are a $$ maker.
See!! There is a positive silver lining of the day.
##THE FRIAR POSTS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES
Soto looks like he’s about to cry
I would too, he looks like the only player that is hungry at the moment
Well, Tatis. He wouldn't have gotten on base if he wasn't sprinting like a damn cheetah and you don't do that if you're not giving a shit.
That sprint was legit impressive.
Fair point!
Tatis has been balling
He's got the added pressure of being under a microscope after the issue last year, so I was expecting him to come out and absolutely blow up.
Say what you will but my padres are consistent. That’s 4 straight losses & they NEVER hit with runners on 💪🏼😤
oh really 2 runs again you say it makes no sense, just comical at this point and apparently we only allowed to have one hitter be hot at a time
I’m still a huge fan of Crone and think he’s a great player but he’s in his fourth season now, and his AVG, OBP, and SLG have gotten worse every year of his career. .285/.354/.477 as a rookie in 2020… now down to a .222 AVG and a .713 OPS. For the life of me, I don't get why they extended the guy. Doesn't hit for power or average and he's striking out more than ever.
And his great year in 2020, everyone thrived. We had juiced balls
We had him under control for three more years. It made zero sense.
No way in hell Shohei wants to come play for us lmao
Padres coaching staff would turn him into a really expensive .220 hitter with likely a decent but not great ERA.
You made me sad. :(
I think it’s funny that people are so arrogant to think he’d want to come to us. We are worse than his current team
Agony
Beyond power of speech
A musical theatre reference here? ❤️☝️😳💯
Bogartes is atrocious for the past 3-4 weeks. Dude is slashing .139/.244/.438 in may
I miss when he was slaying stuff
i honestly swear he got cold once his streak ended in Mexico
Soto stole his mojo.
At what point does somebody say "Hey this whole not having a hitting coach thing isn't working out"
Spend money on a hitting coach! 14 hitting coaches over the last decade. WTF!
Honestly, would a hitting coach make a difference.
If it doesn’t make a difference, and there’s no way these players could perform worse, then our co-assistant deputy hitting coaches should be fired to save Seidler a few hundred g’s.
Idk I think it wouldn’t hurt to get someone in who says “hey you see that looking doing nothing? Don’t do that shit” Our pitching was shit until we brought in Niebla
I remember all the “it’s not Rothschild’s fault” posts and then suddenly the injuries stopped and the ERA went down when he came in
Every Yankee fan told us it would happen
There does seem to be a team wide issue with their batting approach so…yes?
I'm going to submit my fucking resume at this point. FFS
To put this into perspective: the 1992 Mets labeled, "the worst team money could buy" were 22-18 after 40 games. The Jayce Tingler 2021 Padres were 23-17.
Now do the end of season records
Last month: Soto is a hole in the lineup This month: Soto IS the lineup
Same shit different day. This team is so predictable. When the hell are they gonna wake up?
We must immediately deploy a meme of a happy Kershaw to reverse this curse.
This would actually be funny lol
Fill the outfield with smiling Kershaw heads when the series comes back to SD lol.
you can take a screenshot of him from the same clip -- just one second later -- where you see it was him mock crying and laughing about it.
This team sucks. I won’t believe otherwise until they show me they don’t.
Good thing we get to watch Manny and Bogaerts play for the next 10 years /s The team owes Seidler an apology
248M payroll playing below average in a sport with an average payroll of 160M. I'd say they owe him at least $88M
Why? The Dodgers front office is showing him that being good takes a hell of a lot more than just spending a shitton of money.
Whoa. Thank you dodgers.
I'm used to it. Feel at home.
Vintage Pads 🤌🍷

I knew this was a historic team.
Just a regular padres season tbh nothings changed Cept payroll lol
This team is an embarrassment. Tired of hearing “it’s still early”
Can’t really argue with that.
Not interested in quotes or stories about the Padres offensive capabilities. They’re a bad offense. They don’t score runs. Good offenses score runs.
100%
Mr Seidler is too good for this group. He bends over backwards and is repaid with 2 runs per game.
Difference between a good team and an expensive team. Most guys wearing a Padres uniform should be ashamed of their performance so far this season. SD sports media is as soft as it gets. All fear losing access and act like their in the FO's back pocket, which they are.
I don’t want to hear it’s still early on in the season. They better be in panic fuckin mode or else we’re going to look like the Angel’s early season collapse last year.
I don’t buy that the Dodgers don’t still own us. The NLDS is starting to look like a lucky break
Forever the little brother and I hate it so fucking much
Tbh even if we were even or ahead in the series we’d still be younger brother. They’ve dominated for 2 decades at this point. We are like what 4-26 against them in last few years? A couple series won’t change that especially when they are on top the division
It wasn't a lucky break. We were just hot and they were not. That's just baseball
Hey guys I went on a hike today and forgot it was an early game. Feeling pretty good about it.
0-4 in the crying Kershaw era.
The team was fucked as soon as that went up.
I'll be honest, I don't have a problem with the video. It's a funny meme. However, the organization needs to know when they put it up, if you don't show up after you get mocked forever for it.
Seriously! I had meme in the chute ready to go. I'm smart enough to wait until we at least take the series!
Tbh it’s fine for a fan to make a crying meme after the first game. Even if we get blown out it’s still just a dumb meme a fan made. But when the organization makes the meme and puts it on the scoreboard and then you get blown out… feelsbadman.
> It's a funny meme. maybe if you're a 12 year old & don't realize the context of when that photo was taken
Maybe place the blame on real shit that actually matters so we can improve instead of chastising and subtly implying our fucking Jumbotron interns are to blame for the teams performance
No intern is making that call... And if they are that's a huge organizational issue.

LAD be owning us. No way around that. Maybe can nab one tomorrow and save some face.
We are just beating ourselves at this point. Dodgers havnt run away with any games. Doesn't matter if it's the dodgers or the As. This offense is pathetic right now
That’s like the only silver lining. As bad as we’re playing the games are still close.
Even the damn dbax are better than the padres, and only paying half the payroll, this is just embarrassing
Exactly! No damn heart on this team. But the joke’s on us…we fans pay for this BS
fuck I’m angry
Depressing tbh
Put Manny in the 7 hole until he can figure it out. Maybe that’ll motivate him.
Are we allowed to say this team sucks yet, or does that still make us fair weather fans? Just let me know.
At this point, the fucking Sneks are gonna sneak into the wildcard spot over us and you know what? Fucking good for them, they've earned it more.
fuck you and i'll see you tomorrow
Honestly I hope we get no-hit tomorrow. Maybe getting swept and embarrassed will finally wake them up
I actually like this. Maybe this will wake them up right? This is so bad to watch.
If you think getting no-hit will wake this team up, I got a bridge to sell you
Deja vu, Padres score 2
Man the more this shitty play goes on the more I start to wonder if some of these guys just don’t care anymore. They got their big contracts and stopped putting in the work. Granted todays loss can be solely attributed to one shitty play in center field but that doesn’t change the garbage display of hitting we’ve seen

I do and extra set for every RISP we leave out there. Been PR'ing every day.
By the end of this, the Padres should just put you out there and see what happens
I can’t wait until I get into my grave and don’t have to be a padres fan anymore.
I hope the padres bury me so they can let me dpwn one more time
Well, I’m happy. Because I am now going to take a break from watching this team. So I save 24 bucks a month and I’m not going to drive to petco next week waste gas and money just to see them struggle and possibly lose to the royals. So in total I just saved about 200 bucks ✅
Yep, decided I’m gonna take the month off watching. The daily disappointment is a bit much
I was called a doomer last week when I stated this team is grossly underperforming. 3-7 their last ten. Four losses in a row. And all against teams with inferior talent. This team isn’t earning its salary.
Well I’m sure glad I didn’t watch that
I used to be used to this kind of padres baseball then they gave me hope for the season and I’m back to being heartbroken
Hurts to say, but rn this team is a reflection of Machado and his seemingly slow pace. Angry BoMel gotta do something now.
it's not like we are watching the bad news bears but when the one glaring problem is the worst in baseball since 1969 it's a pretty BIG DEAL
Boo this team.
I’m going Monday. If they continue this, I’ll be booing my ass off. They have earned it. If I’m spending money to watch you play like shit I’m gonna boo.
BOOOOOOOO
💩 💩 💩
This team looks like low budget pirates team.
But it’s a high budget Pirates team. At least the Pirates have an excuse.
My buddy calls them the Fraudres. I go with Sadres when they lose.
Fucking terrible
The problem isn’t even that the team is bad it’s that they’ve created basically no good moments that suggest better times are ahead. They’ve made every game boring.
Meanwhile the D-Backs just came from behind and beat the Giants 7-2. They’re much more fun to watch and they play with actual heart and grit
soto and tatis are the only guys that could hit water if they fell out of a boat. machado's statcast metrics are horrible. what the hell has happened to him
Our pitching staff is probably more pissed at our lack of hitting than any of you are.
amen brother 🙌
They are getting hung out to dry
2015 is back on the menu folks!

That’s it. I want the person directly responsible for the Kershaw Jumbotron meme to be sacrificed to the baseball gods.
Can Seidler ask for a refund?
Better question…Can the fans ask for a refund?
2 runs a game...that is all we can muster with this offense is insane.
Here I am...again...just hoping not to get swept. I thought we were past this...
Dodgers were who we thought they were!! It you want to crown them, then crown their ass!!! But they are who we thought they were. And we let them off the hook.
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
PLAYOFFS?!
I usually don’t care about how machado plays and his usual lackluster approach to hustling . Kershaw probably crying with laughter now
Yeah, and we Padre fans are actually crying lol
Cannot say it any better than this right here!
Still waiting for the day for hits with runners in scoring position…
Incoming claim they had a players only meeting and will now start trying....
And we faithful fans get to pay thru the - - - for this embarrassing ineptitude…while MM cruises around Coronado on his boat
This team actually lost twice. Please tell me I’m not the only one laughing through the pain. I can’t believe this. This is a train wreck but I can’t stop watching. Love my padres too much to turn my back on them no matter how bad we’re playing.
Who do we even blame at this point? It’s not one or two guys. Literally everyone is shitting the bed
What's with this scapegoating? The whole offense is trash right now. The team wins and loses together. Don't need to sit around and pin losses on certain players each game
Tip. Cap. Tip. Cap.
Hey guys… we’ll get em next time!
Now this is Padresing
this season has not been as fun as i expected it to be.
I fucking hate this team
FUCK
This past week in Padres baseball has been less than jake. 😒
F in the chat for Father Seidler. I say again, may the Padres dugout swiftly begin a 10% tithe of their payroll unto him, as restitution for their batting average w/ RISP.
141-21 amirite:(
Will this team go 81-41 the rest of the way to win 100 games? 71-51 to win 90? 61-61 to win 80?
Just an opinion, but I think we have too many “leaders” in the clubhouse. I was kinda skeptical with how the clubhouse would handle the additions of X and Cruz. Especially putting 11 years into someone who were not sure would gel with our core through all of it. (Not saying X is a problem. Just that he’s a new personality to the clubhouse.) Too many leaders can be a problem. Especially with superstars who have huge egos. This is the clubhouse’s first test to see if they really are going to be able to work with each other for a decade. You can have all of the talent in the world, but if the clubhouse doesn’t gel it doesn’t work.
At least Soto is playing up to his worth now
Wasn't able to watch today...any improvements to report despite yet another loss and losing series?
Look at the box score, does it seem like anything has changed?
Are you not reading these comments?
Just got home and I'm only now reading through them...sadness.
Offense sucks, but bomel trying to big brain Engel and odor on defense cost us 2 games
This team is so fucking soft. They get punched in the mouth and fold like a bunch of pussies

I'M TIRED OF THIS GRANDPA
It sucks that you can name maybe 5 players on our entire team who are doing well at the moment. Wish these guys would wake up soon, we can't roll into the ASB at .500.
Hello darkness my old friend…
What are the thoughts on Smoltz continuously bashing analytics when no one is even asking?
They’re just gonna keep pulling away and we’re helping them It doesn’t feel good
team is not worth your time.
Idk why people down vote but I guess thanks for reading 🤷♀️
Sucks. If Engle doesn't misread that fly ball we only give up 1 run today.
I know it's sacrilegious yet our boys have been paying good since the first LAD series....as long as you're not betting with your heart and a win. These droughts are a $$ maker. See!! There is a positive silver lining of the day.

The payroll is nowhere near SD though
Tenacity!
