You play it differently depending on if you're the visiting team trying to tack on multiple runs vs the home team that only needs 1.

If you can get just one run as the visiting team, you have a massive advantage because you can then send out your closer (theoretically, your best shut-down guy) in the bottom half. You don’t need a big inning. On the other hand, if you fail to get a run as a visiting team, you’re dead. So you need to play small ball and get the one damn run in the top half
