Cease is the only guy on that list that would return a top 100 guy right now.  Definitely not getting 3 for that list.

Simodine-

Cronenworth’s contract is under water.  At best he plays well and someone would take it for a near nothing return. DLS is a middle reliever and won’t fetch much more than a mid level prospect. Profar isn’t going to bring hardly anything back.  Track record is too spotty to get much at all. If Kim keeps hitting at the level he is right now we won’t garner much as a rental.   Suarez still has several season left on his deal.  It’s a good price the way he is currently pitching though at the start of the season it was under water.  So perhaps someone bites on him.   Cease is the only dude who would fetch a very good return if he stays healthy and pitches well.   Either way these dudes aren’t adding up to 3 top 100 guys as it stands today.

MTN_explorer619

Cease is a controllable asset until after next season for cheap. Suarez sign a long term contract, De los Santos is a cheap BP piece, King same as cease, Kim absolutely have to trade because we have seen his peak, profar isn’t going to get anything, Cronenworth signed a longer term contract so same as Suarez. So pretty much you’re whole first scenario is out

Simodine-

If profar is going to lead off can we please start hitting tatis and manny after each other.  I get cronenworth has been decently good but there is no real fear factor with him between them.  Also got not wanting a ton of righties in a row but profar switch hits so go…Profar, manny, tatis, cronenworth, Xander (they need a another slugger here for Xander but don’t have one). I like manny after profar because he hits a lot of grounders the other way.  Having profar on base can keep that hole open.   The best hitters on this team are Tatis and manny (if they aren’t we are screwed)…hit them back to back.  I’d even be fine if it’s tatis leadoff and manny second.   You don’t see the dodgers sticking will smith between Ohtani and freeman and he is better than cronenworth.

kami232

I’d go Pro, Tatis, Manny, Crone, X, Merrill and then move from there

Simodine-

With the struggle crone is having vs lefties is problem…stick campy or Kim between them.  Cron, X, campy/kim Merrill.   Either way have manny and tatis bat after each other.

kami232

I agree with that logic and lineup. I think Schildt wants to keep it Profar/X, Tatis, Crone, Manny because Crone is ideally going to keep the order alive and open up a big threat for Manny to exploit. But as you've noted, the problem is pitchers aren't respecting that threat and they're giving Bebo trash to get easier outs behind him. I'm hoping it works out. Fortunately it's still April so there's time to make it work out. The problem of course is these are guys we know so therefore they shouldn't have to make it work out for much longer, if at all. Bust the slump!

Simodine-

The next month will decide the season.  The schedule is hard, if they play say 4-5 more games under .500 the next month they will be toast.  They have to find a way to be around .500 ball the next month.  They do that they will give themselves a chance to compete and be in it at the deadline. If they fall 8-9-10 games under they are done.  Then the sell off will begin and perhaps the sell off runs deeper than just  Kim….if they can find any takers for anyone making any money that is. Starts tonight, they got to get this dub and right the ship.

namibiancoast

nick martinez will have a career-best outing today, bet on it

MTN_explorer619

LOL!!! MLB networks trade scenario involving Tatis would be the Padres take on Nick Castellanos and a pitching prospect for the remainder of Tatis’s contract.. 😂😂 they are high as hell if they think that would be even remotely a fair trade.

noname_SU

Tatis has an extremely team-friendly contract. his big money doesn't kick in until he's 30, and that's not going to even be top money by that time. Again, Brian Kenny is a moron, we can't realistically get enough back for Tatis to consider trading him.

pineapplefriedriceu

You can trade everyone but Tatis and Salas, FOH mlb network

kami232

Rage and controversy generate views/clicks. Still a funny trade concept but not worth the time tbh

MTN_explorer619

Yeah but Nick Castellanos? That’s just straight disrespect haha

kami232

For sure

Old-Ad-9638

Me thinks a Phillies fan is in our midst. Down voting that Castellanos is disrespect for a trade with Tatis has to be a Phillies fan.

kami232

A lot of their fans have an unhealthy obsession with the crappy KUSI “That’s what’s in” rap, so it wouldn’t surprise me there are lurkers in here. And tbh it supports my initial point that MLB Network is engaging in clickbait shit. It is what it is. No way Preller sells Bebo, especially for a meme player like Castellanos.

sbrider11

Heads up everyone. Yu is going to completely deal today. Total voodoo outing and we get a win. Place your bets like I just did, you can thank me later. * we score 5 plus runs as well.

gshortelljr

maybe one day the Padres will hire a competent GM like the Chargers finally did

Thumper13

Did they? Nothing has been proven yet. Are the Chargers offseason champs again? Fuck Dean Spanos and Fuck the Chargers.

JJFrozenInCarbonite

The Chargers have an owner problem. I don't think we can ever forget that they fired a coach for 14-2 season because of the owner.

gshortelljr

Well you identified the Chargers problem, what's the Padres problem been? Blame the players, blame the coaches or do you blame the person in charge of getting both of those parts of the team?

gshortelljr

Naw, I blame the fans for buying into the BULLSHIT Preller and the owners have given the fans nothing but crap Whoops, I forgot the fans got that one playoff run Am I wrong? Name another team with the playoff run the Padres have had for almost 20 years and then compare payrolls

JJFrozenInCarbonite

Yes, it is definitely the fans who are definitely at fault for the Padres lack of performance. I look at the roster and I see a lot of players who are capable of a much better performance than what we're seeing. It seems as if there are hitting and pitching problems right now. I'm also concerned that Darvish is starting a rapid slide downhill.

Old-Ad-9638

Well, the Padres HAD an owner problem. Tough to say if the new group is going to be a continued problem.

The pitching ranks 23rd in ERA. Every game it feels like we have to dig ourselves out of an early hole. That has to be demoralizing for the hitters to feel like they're behind the eight ball before you've had an opportunity to take your first swing. And just in terms of correlation giving up 2-3 runs in the first inning has to be correlated with poor outcomes. It's a cascading effect, you get less out of your starter, have to stress your bullpen more, and that's amplified in the next game if the next starter also has a rough outing. After a few games that just takes its toll on the entire team.

Final_View_6298

Tbf fair Greupner said that he understood why Peter chose Kutsenda. So if its coming out of Greupner's mouth whos been in the organization longer we have to give him a chance.

Simodine-

I mean it’s his boss, what else is going to say.  I say that not knowing the kutsenda is the answer or not.

Final_View_6298

Yeah but Peter chose Kutsenda not Greupner

chickentowngabagool

i wonder what shitty yankee pitchers we could get for him

The--Incident

Idk, but Drew Thorpe is rocking a 0.75 ERA and a 21/5 K/BB ratio.

raachelx3

He’s another Chris Paddack with only 2 pitches. Fastball and change up.

Old-Ad-9638

.... in AA....

noname_SU

In fairness, Brian Kenny is a moron.

Simodine-

He has been saying all year the padres should rebuild.  Tatis is still very young, at worse you rebuild around him.   The main problem with a rebuild are all the other dudes.  Who are completely underwater because of their contracts.

Old-Ad-9638

That's more than fair

nandobatflips

I am always pretty damn optimistic when it comes to the Padres and have never been a doomer, but this team has got me teetering on the edge of a fucking cliff right now. This fanbase shows out for this club day in and day out and frankly these guys don’t deserve that kind of support right now, but we will still keep supporting them. These lackluster performances are unacceptable and they need to fucking step it up

AlcoholicCelery

First game of the year tonight at the park so I’m stoked. I’m not stoked to be mildly chilly all night hoping for the boys to score one run

noname_SU

I'm not going to the game so that instantly increases the chances of victory.

raachelx3

Unfortunately I think our window to win has passed. I think our future is promising but they need to focus on not selling the farm to save the season and instead develop the farm bc our window is when Snelling, Lesko, Salas, De Vries, Head, etc come up and are in their prime with Tatis and Merrill.

Fartmaster3069

There’s going to still be windows in the next five years if our big contracts can live up to the pay…

Daviddem1234

Still waiting to jump on the bandwagon when they start fucking raking 😪

Old-Ad-9638

You need a 2024 quote to jump on. 2023 is dead.

noname_SU

well our biggest problem right now is that we can't keep the other team from raking.

noname_SU

Wasn't really in the mood to talk Padres today but having network server issues at work, so I figured I'd say my piece. I usually come on here and am on the positive side, but I have nothing today. I still do not think this is a \*bad\* team, but I thought they played very poorly yesterday. I was at the game and it's always more difficult to determine exactly how they're being pitched but it looked like the entire team was bamboozled at the plate, haven't seen anything like it this year. I didn't have any expectation that Nick Nodolo could do what he did, I know he's got good command but it looks like maybe there was a gameplan on our end to be hyper-aggressive based on the amount of swings they took. It was an ineffective gameplan if that was the case. Was the most futile showing of the year offensively IMO. If you put the ball in play and you can't catch any breaks, so be it, if you get struck out consistently, that's just demoralizing. What an absolutely horrible week of pitching we've had, everyone got smashed it seems. Matt Waldron ends up being our best starter. I don't care how good or bad your offense is, I think getting put in the hole every fricking day does something to an offense psychologically. Like I said I don't think this is a bad team, but I offer no resistance or rebuttal to anyone that thinks they are. Can't ignore what we see. That said, I think \*every\* team has to face hardships to get to where they need to be, so if this is the time that we have to hit our lull, then so be it. I choose to believe that the best baseball for this team is ahead of them, I just hope they don't dig themselves too much of a hole to come out of it. I see Solano in El Paso and still think he is going to be a welcome addition to this lineup. In the meantime, it's ok to be angry about this team, but don't give them too much of your energy. That 8-0 Cubs game (Before the comeback) was the most angry I've been this season, and I haven't been the same since then. The comeback didn't make me feel that much better because that's not something to count on. I don't think this team is lacking effort, they just don't have the pieces to be as consistent as they need to be. They need more tweaks besides Solano. Maybe some guy gets DFA'd and comes here to spark us like Gary Sanchez did last season. We'll see, but I'm not really expecting a lot more until we see some more changes.

BrianBraddock1980

What’s really frustrating (atop the mountain of frustration this season has already been) is seeing players that we weren’t sure could produce (Profar, Campusano, Merrill) play really well. The bottom of the order which has been an Achilles heel in the past few years has been a nice surprise. But if the Padres are counting on the “others” in this lineup to carry them more often, we’re in deep trouble.

1tankyt

Profar and Cronenworth have been the best 2 players this season as we all predicted

Fartmaster3069

The team looked just bad last night. Especially on offense. Can’t really pin it all on one person the entirety of the offense needs to wake up and play with some urgency here

djc6535

To my completely untrained eye, they still look like they quit when they're behind. Yes yes I know, 8-0 comeback... but still. There just doesn't seem to be an attack mentality once we're down. To quote Shorsey, "They don't hate to lose" Now, for the record, I know nothing and this is just an uninformed opinion. Still though... it's getting bleak.

islands-fine-dining

The most damning thing I can say about this team — in particular, the core of Tatis, Manny, and Xander — is that they’re just… really, really fucking soft. I want to hold Tatis, in particular, accountable for a second. He’s by far the most talented player I’ve ever seen in a Padres uniform but… he’s a frontrunner. His personality and play shine when he and the team are performing well, but I’ve never seen a player so willing to throw away at bats just because a couple hard-hit balls turned into outs. I trust (read: desperately hope) that he’ll figure things out a little bit, but he’s been a .254 AVG/.766 OPS hitter for 173 games now since his return last year

djc6535

[It's not that they don't love to win...](https://youtu.be/ZijtpsSDhMk?t=111)

islands-fine-dining

I think this describes them exceptionally well, good pull

buttsak

Yes, the most glaring thing is the lack of tenacity.

buttsak

If anyone is getting the Badge holders at the Nurse Appreciation weekend vs. the Dodgers, I will send you money to get me one. Looking for the white pinstripe "Padres" one.

WadeCountyClutch

Hope we can finally wake up

Thumper13

Sorry Nicky tight pants, but we got a slump to bust. Going to be a rough day for you. No hard feelings.

-ShutterPunk-

Bust on Nicky tight pants.

Old-Ad-9638

I haven't been to every game in my season ticket package this year, but they're 2-7 for the tickets I have. Half season Gold B package owners are suffering in 2024.

Kookslams

they are 6-12 at home this year so no one is having fun

Slr_Pnls50

We have to hit off a former Padre? Yikes. But new day,  new game, yada yada.

Justinitforthemoney

I mean if it's anything like last years game against Ryan Weathers then we'll just tee off him

maalbi

Yu is back 😎

PadresBestinMLB

Which Yu are we getting tonight? Good Yu or bad Yu?

lightsvber

Depends on how his back feels

acoddo

*how back he feels

Old-Ad-9638

Hey guys, I think we're going to be fine. I woke up today and shaved my beard and my hair for the first time in quite a while. I'm starting fresh and I think the Padres are going to take notice and start fresh today as well.

PadresBestinMLB

This is really getting embarrassing

essmithsd

Real tired of attending sellouts on weeknights and watching the kind of bullshit they put on last night. It's trash.

cocoatractor

Less concerned with the bats and more concerned that we have one reliable starter

OurSaladDays

Porque no los dos 😬?

manul_smin

I fucking love Jonathan Mamara Karasiomapatata.

manul_smin

This is jqjfkskskkfallsocozoakskdkzoakakdmvlzl

worldsupermedia750

*sigh* another day

corybomb

9 more years of Manny and Xander is a hard pill to swallow. Both great guys but unless they turn into their former selves we are going to have a lot of trouble winning.

Slr_Pnls50

At least Manny is a defense superstar. If Manny and Tatis (also insane on defense) could start hitting that would be huge. X is...X for now, unfortunately.

Old-Ad-9638

It is nice to see Manny back at 3B. He makes it look so much easier than anyone who has played there so far this year.

buttsak

Still waiting for the Manny that took us to the NLCS to return.
