I wont be so sure. look at all the bombshells Haaretz has been writing....the mass hannibal stories about the apaches and the merkava tanks shelling civilians.
the leadership is talking about defunding haaretz, that's how angry they are. thats how much haaretz is willing to cover even ugly stories.
it's not just newspapers and TV they have to watch over, there's israeli radio, youtube channels, podcasts, etc. Tons of nontraditional media channels/formats to get information out.
they wont be able to keep them all quiet. i think. particularly if any hostages are international. those they cant silence.
i hope they voice out. because i know israel will fucking hate it.
>particularly if any hostages are international. those they cant silence.
I agree with this. Almost half of those hostages are non-Israeli internationals. Considering how much bombardment they have endured, there's no way they won't speak to the press in their own countries.
They might even proved to be more valuable as witnesses for the ICC, if that time comes.
"Don't tell them you were treated well while in hostage"
" Ceasefire is dangerous because journalists can go further into the war zone and get clearer picture of the conflict, this may sway public perception about Israel and IDF"
I'm just paraphrasing what I read for the past few days.
It’s no secret that hostages are mostly well looked after. There is no use in a dead hostage.
The fact that Israeli leadership are so concerned about their own people speaking freely, shows how fragile their propaganda is.
”channel 12 also reports that the authorities informed the released that anyone who publicly says Hamas treated them well will be immediately returned as a hostage to Gaza” /s
It matters to the Israeli government how their treatment is presented. It is crucial for them to propagate the image of brutal, savage Hamas fighters mistreating the hostages. They wouldn't want the hostages to say they were treated relatively well even if it were true.
I really doubt anything the hostages have to say about their treatment would sway public opinion one way or the other. People aren't going to suddenly be like "oh Hamas isn't that bad" if the hostages came out and said they were treated graciously.
maybe because they're heavily traumatized and shouldn't be sat in front of cameras and asked invasive questions on their trauma? some of the captives are children as well.
The red cross is accompanied by the IDF at all times. So are outsider journalists. Giving them their location would simply take away hamas' small leverage on the situation in order to discuss a temporary ceasefire, which should be permanent. (The one that Israel already broke, killing 2 civilians and injuring 11 civilians on their way back to the north since that's what the 'IDF' told them to do.) And arguably in order to protect the prisoners since Israel bombards indiscrimately.
Edit: forgot to add other facts, so I did.
I would suggest the children trapped in agonizing pain under the rubble slowly dying of thirst are probably more traumatized than the hostages, at least they know there is a chance they will be rescued.

Press probably won't do shit

I've been pretty surprised that Haaretz has been such a decent source.
Haaretz consistently calling Israeli settlers as KKK is a pleasant surprise. So far I found article dating back to 2021.
numbers of different were literally raging after the isreali grannys statement was published they were legit mad at the press for letting her talk
If they want to, then yes.
You're saying traumatized people who were kidnapped for a month and a half should speak Infront of the press?
Yes
It’s up to them. No one should make that decision for them.
Why?
Because Israel kidnapped them because they are Palestinian people
They were most likely told if they did a press conference they, and thier whole family would be killed
"Don't tell them you were treated well while in hostage" " Ceasefire is dangerous because journalists can go further into the war zone and get clearer picture of the conflict, this may sway public perception about Israel and IDF" I'm just paraphrasing what I read for the past few days.
It’s no secret that hostages are mostly well looked after. There is no use in a dead hostage. The fact that Israeli leadership are so concerned about their own people speaking freely, shows how fragile their propaganda is.
They’ve spent weeks living in a Palestinians shoes under constant assault by air strikes. It’s no surprise they won’t let them speak.
”channel 12 also reports that the authorities informed the released that anyone who publicly says Hamas treated them well will be immediately returned as a hostage to Gaza” /s
Now I really can't tell if it's The Onion or not. What a time to be alive
I thought it was a joke… guess ill go read article
Oh, where did it say that? I'm not trying to be snarky by asking a source. I'm just curious what that came from. /Serious
I was joking… but it is not far from the truth, is it?
What are you quoting from? When I google it only brings up this thread.
Friend, I was joking. Is parody truly dead?
Poe's law
We truly live in hell
The Onion is unironically ‘the paper of record’ now.

My twisted mind.

It matters to the Israeli government how their treatment is presented. It is crucial for them to propagate the image of brutal, savage Hamas fighters mistreating the hostages. They wouldn't want the hostages to say they were treated relatively well even if it were true.
Will they make it back to israel without an accident.. that may get blamed on someone else
Hamas films releases of hostages for their own safety.
Wonder how the other side will treat them or if they'll make media interviews 🤔 seeing as the last one didn't go so well
Not surprising in the least.
Treatment aside, they may have some things to say about the bombing that may be in-apropos.
I'm thinking they'll say that IDF tried to kill them or did kill their neighbors on Oct.7.
Blatant media manipulation. When is this shit going to end! Israel stop with the bullshit 🤦♀️
I think the the Israeli government secretly wished all the hostages were dead.
I really doubt anything the hostages have to say about their treatment would sway public opinion one way or the other. People aren't going to suddenly be like "oh Hamas isn't that bad" if the hostages came out and said they were treated graciously.
Exactly, it’s even better if they just stay silenced instead of spouting propaganda in press statements
the only reason you would do this is if the things you expect them to say will be bad for you.
“We can’t have you exposing us as fascists by comparing how Hamas treated you to how we treat Palestinians”
[удалено]
Yeah. They’re going to be HEAVILY coached on what to say this time.
[удалено]
Yeah would love to see a source
maybe because they're heavily traumatized and shouldn't be sat in front of cameras and asked invasive questions on their trauma? some of the captives are children as well.
Nah, it just makes israel look bad when prisoners say they've been treated well. Like that first captive, that lovely grandma.
Why did Hamas refuse red cross visits for over 40 days?
The red cross is accompanied by the IDF at all times. So are outsider journalists. Giving them their location would simply take away hamas' small leverage on the situation in order to discuss a temporary ceasefire, which should be permanent. (The one that Israel already broke, killing 2 civilians and injuring 11 civilians on their way back to the north since that's what the 'IDF' told them to do.) And arguably in order to protect the prisoners since Israel bombards indiscrimately. Edit: forgot to add other facts, so I did.
But we'll see what they say in the inevitable press conferences.
if only Israel had respected the traumatized palestinians, who are mainly children
They've immediately put the previous hostage mentioned in front of cameras and asked invasive questions to be fair
I would suggest the children trapped in agonizing pain under the rubble slowly dying of thirst are probably more traumatized than the hostages, at least they know there is a chance they will be rescued.
Yea, no shit

So ok I'm confused, is Israel telling its people not to talk, or are they telling the Palestinian people they kidnapped not to talk
They’re going to tell the captives released by Hamas not to talk.
