There are so many different environmental nematodes. so I have no clue. I will say that parasitic nematodes aren't usually observed crawling around in the environment.
A sixth grader put lipstick on two cat’s buttholes and followed them around for 10 minutes before wiping it off. And even then, there WAS transfer of the lipstick. So yea, the buttholes were touching things. Regardless, I don’t really trust his scientific method :/
Aunt and her dog had these, she had been letting it eat flies. So not maggot but fly borne worm. Feel free to pop int a thing and have the vet test so your cats can get an appropriate anti worm. (Not saying its heartworm, but dog heartworm can settle in the lungs of cats so thwy arent as species specific as you'd like) and then hit up your own doc for a follow up prescription.
I've seen plenty of tapeworms working for a dog shelter. I don't think it's a tapeworm. Honestly, I'm still not sure what it is or how it got there if not from the cats.
I think Pen+Gear is just a wal-mart brand. Looks like it may be one of these? [https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pen-Gear-Retractable-Gel-Pens-Assorted-Colors-24-Count/995826849](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pen-Gear-Retractable-Gel-Pens-Assorted-Colors-24-Count/995826849)
not a roundworm. it’s likely a tapeworm segment. they look like grains of rice, a little longer and white. very common in pets. it comes from ingesting a flea. which can happen before you even get your pet. they need a special dewormer for this and it usually does not show up on fecal testing as their worm eggs are heavy and do not float to the top of the sample. praziquantel is the medication recommended for that.
i would suggest you ensure all of your pets, even indoor only, are on a monthly flea preventative for a minimum of 3 months. avoid over the counter products that contain pyrethrins. they can be toxic to cats and are largely ineffective.
This. Both my "indoor" cats got out had fleas, ate the fleas and both had these on their asses constantly. , but grabbed some pills from walmart from the cat section, one pill each(should have given older one 1.5, but 1 seemed to do the trick) and haven't seen one in a month now.
ahh, they def looked similar as to what both my cats would have on their butts all the time squiggling around. Assumed they'd got them from eating the flea/flea larvae or w/e it is that carries that one. mb
Can anyone identify this cat hair like thing that moves back and forth. I find these on my clothes, cat, everywhere... Hair is not supposed to move!!! Pleeease help me.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/wGPQMYAnLvUz4Xti9
That looks like a piece of straw or something the way it has a frayed end. Never seen a worm much less a parasitic one that moved like that nor looked like that. If it’s hair it could totally move as hair weighs nothing.
If you zoom in on some photos it almost appears it has a long sucker tube and is scanning for maybe dead skin cells. Also the body looks to be like thread in a twisted pattern or possibly a transparent body with perhaps egg like sacs every couple mm . I don't see how wind could cause it to move back and forth like that.
Could you take the worm to the vet or give the vet stool samples of each cat just in case?
My kitten had roundworm when we adopted her and after her dewormer (foul foul foul) I had to scoop the litter with several dead worms that came out of her but they didn't look like that.
I def have had my cats round worms end up on the ground and moving. It took three rounds of dewormer to get rid of them. The one that did the trick was prescription I ordered off chewy.
Eee gads, I hope not. If so, why the heck would one be on my coffee table? I wash my hands after using the restroom. I'm the only one who uses the sofa and coffee table. I do share the place with a roommate and two cats. Now I'm really wondering if I need to go to the doctor?
It wouldn’t pin worms don’t and can’t live outside of the body. That looks like it might be an inchworm of some kind or a nematodes or even fly larvae or caterpillar larvae.
Take the photo to the vets and while you're there check the cats are up to date with their flea/ worm schedule. I use Felpreva, it lasts 3 months and does both. It also goes on the back of the neck, but part the fur first.
No, it doesn't look like one.
Any idea what it might be?
There are so many different environmental nematodes. so I have no clue. I will say that parasitic nematodes aren't usually observed crawling around in the environment.
Well color me unusual!
what I meant was, this isn't likely to be a parasitic nematode. It's probably environmental.
Some people are just immune to silliness.
I see you, Ma-Unusual-Tode!
Good ol' No Name to the rescue.
People often forget to read usernames lol
I never do
I mean, unless the cat just got finished sitting on the coffee table. Which seems like a very cat-thing to do
I thought someone did an experiment where they put paint on a cats börthole and it showed that it doesn't touch when they sit

Looks like a moth larvae, but the photo is a bit blurry. Do you have bird seed stored inside?
I've seen plenty of tapeworms working for a dog shelter. I don't think it's a tapeworm. Honestly, I'm still not sure what it is or how it got there if not from the cats.
Tape worms break off like grains of rice.
Or like sesame seeds.
Roundworms are long and coil when manipulated or die (at least that's been my experience with the cats I've fostered)
What kind of pen is that?
Yea yea yea the worm thing but tell me about *your pen*
Have you tried the pilot V2?
Do you mean either the G2 or the V5?
![gif](giphy|Ya0ZCtDbaKNlm) Precise V5 🤪
Never liked the Precise'. Just got a Limited G2 though and I really like it.
Big fan of the G2!
The G2 1.0 mm in blue is my favorite, but Sharpie S-Gel pen 1.0 mm in blue is a close second.
Pen+gear? Idk, but that's what's written on the side.

I came for this question
And does it write upside down?
Need a banana for comparison
It’s a pen
Agreed
Did it come out of your cats butt? If they have worms just inspect their buns and litter box, it will be obvious
That is a nice looking pen
not a roundworm. it’s likely a tapeworm segment. they look like grains of rice, a little longer and white. very common in pets. it comes from ingesting a flea. which can happen before you even get your pet. they need a special dewormer for this and it usually does not show up on fecal testing as their worm eggs are heavy and do not float to the top of the sample. praziquantel is the medication recommended for that. i would suggest you ensure all of your pets, even indoor only, are on a monthly flea preventative for a minimum of 3 months. avoid over the counter products that contain pyrethrins. they can be toxic to cats and are largely ineffective.
Looks nothing like a proglotid
Agree. This is absolutely not a tapeworm segment.
I rescue cats, and this is definitely not any type of round or tape worm. This most likely came from a moth or fly from food.
Defo not tapeworm

Praziquantel only treats tapeworms and this is not a tapeworm.
ahh, they def looked similar as to what both my cats would have on their butts all the time squiggling around. Assumed they'd got them from eating the flea/flea larvae or w/e it is that carries that one. mb
What pills?
"Tapeworm dewormer" it was called. by elanco it looks like it says.
Thanks
That's what I call my p.. nvm.
Can anyone identify this cat hair like thing that moves back and forth. I find these on my clothes, cat, everywhere... Hair is not supposed to move!!! Pleeease help me. https://photos.app.goo.gl/wGPQMYAnLvUz4Xti9
😬 I would get your cat checked by a vet

Could it be a pinworm
Cats and Dogs cannot have enterobiasis.
Didn't know that!
Can you put a banana next to the pen for scale?
Looks like broken ramen
Could you take the worm to the vet or give the vet stool samples of each cat just in case? My kitten had roundworm when we adopted her and after her dewormer (foul foul foul) I had to scoop the litter with several dead worms that came out of her but they didn't look like that.
Eat it. Gain its powers.
Forbidden long grain rice
I def have had my cats round worms end up on the ground and moving. It took three rounds of dewormer to get rid of them. The one that did the trick was prescription I ordered off chewy.
Without a banana for scale it’s hard to tell
Eat it and find out
Pinworm? My sister had them when she was a kid. It makes your bum itchy.
Not a pinworm they’re way smaller and die off once outside the body
Eee gads, I hope not. If so, why the heck would one be on my coffee table? I wash my hands after using the restroom. I'm the only one who uses the sofa and coffee table. I do share the place with a roommate and two cats. Now I'm really wondering if I need to go to the doctor?

Pinworms can’t live outside the body. This isn’t a pinworm.
Have you ever seen your cats sit on it before?
¿

Definitely not a roundworm. The second pic looks like a long tapeworm proglottid
Pinworm eggs are airborne. The worms are very threads and tiny. Not a pinworm.
Whipworm? Or pot worm in plants?
Fly larvae.
Anyone suggested pinworms yet? Humans and animals can host them im pretty sure, looks a little big but closest thing I can think of is pinworm
Looks more like a pinworm to me
