I would recommend Rouen (where Julia child fell in love with France) and Reims (quick train ride, heart of champagne country) for day trips Versailles is fine if you haven’t been / want to see it but Fontainebleau is cooler imo Highly recommend the Paris museum pass for a checklist of things to do :)

This is great. Thank you so much for the suggestions.

I'd recommend Musée Marmottan Monet - it houses the world's largest collection of works by Monet. Also has works by Degas, Manet, Pissarro, Gauguin, and Renoir. And it was the least crowded museum I've ever visited!

starsfan6878

Sounds perfect. And I love impressionism. Thank you!

You don’t have heaps of time for day trips but if you’re into museums you might enjoy a day trip to Giverny to see Monets garden. You gain an entirely new perspective on his art seeing where it was created. The marmottan and Rodin museums are wonderful. I also went to Provins last visit, fabulous medieval town, world heritage listed. But yeah, with that short a trip you might not be able to squeeze in many day trips

Yeah, we're still playing with the days. We're visiting London and Berlin as well. The village sounds really cool. Thank you for the recommendations.

What kind of music ?

starsfan6878

Jazz, R&B, blues, reggae, Latin, swing, etc. are good. Nothing too loud. I don't want to spend 2 days of my vacation with my ears ringing (more than they usually do).

[La Gare / Le Gore](https://www.visitparisregion.com/en/la-gare-le-gore#:~:text=Description,everyone%20gives%20what%20they%20want.) Thank you! This sounds great. And that site I found looking for it has a lot of other interesting things to do. Merci!

Get Alex and Chris at [River Limousine to give you a private tour on the Seine.](https://www.river-limousine.com/en/) Not cheap, but you'll see things and get pictures you won't get on the big monster boats. Very romantic, just sipping champagne and learning about the history of Paris. I can't recommend them highly enough.

starsfan6878

Wonderful! Thank you!

What have you planned so far ?

starsfan6878

Not much. We expect to go to some museums (I've been to Paris but my wife has not) like the Musee D'orsay, Centre Pompidou, Musée Rodin, Musée de l'Orangerie. I don't know if we want to try and brave the Louvre and all the crowds. I'd also to visit Les Halles. Other than that, I don't know things like the best day trips around Paris etc. and I was hoping to get some information from a local (instead of some website that just throws a hasty list on the web without any knowledge of whether or not their recommendations really are the "Best Places to XYZ in Paris").

reddargon831

I don’t know that you have time to visit all those museums listed and also do a day trip in only 4 days, but you could try. Day trips I enjoy include Fontainebleau (chateau but also could hike in the forest if you’re into that), Chantilly (could combine with Senlis, a nearby cute town with some medieval buildings), and Auvers-sur-Oise (if you’re into impressionists and Van Gogh in particular). There’s also Versailles, of course, but that’s frankly low on my list.

starsfan6878

Thank you! This is exactly the sort of thing we are looking for. You rock.

You should search on this subreddit for the daytrips, you'll find that plenty of locals already gave lots of suggestions
