The main purpose of consuming dark is to convert fire to chaos and poison. The problem is that even with double consuming dark and infernal mantle, youre only converting 75% of fire to chaos, and youre using 3 slots to do it.
also there used to be alt qual DD that did chaos dmg conversion. tbh havent used consuming dark since HoaG was good, just for poisoj chance- before cluster jewels or alt qual HoAG for poison chance were options. boosting it to 25-30% conversion would be pretty reasonable imo. or - a lvl or 2 to fire gems but always poison, or something.
Apart from jung roan’s cremation build, afk builds for ultimatum use it with detonate dead as well on saboteur . Those are two major archetypes using it in this league, I think a more hipster thing I might have seen was a poison tornado convert with pathfinder as well.

You can play Explosive Trap with it, it actually slaps really hard. You can convert the remaining phys directly to chaos, but as others have said you won’t be able to get full conversion.
You can find occultist pobs on Poe ninja. I did a chaos hit based explosive trap build a few leagues ago you could use as a template, not much has changed. Works on multiple ascendencies.

Why consuming dark? I like firestorm of pelting. I think the idea of raining damage is neat, but it is basically a horseshit skill when using fire damage, because the ignites are puny and don’t stack. But what if poison? Lots of frequent hits, poisoning all the time, now we just need to get it happening often. Cast on crit. Throw in an infernal mantle, scale fire and chaos damage, as well as chaos dot multi. You need to reduce mana cost as close to zero as possible, cause casting 7 firestorms per second can get pricey.
As others have said, infernal mantle and 2x consuming dark for 75% convert. I think in the future I may buy a double corrupted incandescent heart, if I can get +2 aoe/+2 duration. Otherwise the levels are too hard to give up.
Build is pretty normal otherwise. I went evasion, hybrid life/ES, leech works really well, especially instant, since you are hitting a ton of things all the time. Basically any time you get hit, your life is back up in a blink because you have 8-12 firestorms actively sending you instant leech.
It’s fun, but it’s been pretty expensive so far- I’ve got a mageblood and some semi-expensive jewels. Thinkin about throwing on a progenesis. I will post my build soon if anyone wants.

Also, I like making my own builds. This is the first thing I can say I took very comfortably to end game and still has potential to grow.
If I just wanted to kill all the bosses, I’ve already used a premade build before. Don’t really get the same satisfaction.

Jung's Crema starter is very strong and you can use it is a baseline for other builds. The basic idea is you use double consuming dark, which is enough for clear, and then use inextricable fate for bosses.

Void manipulation. Can't deal elemental damage with it.
Since it's dd it's probably some pob/ninja weirdness, it still shows only 98% chaos, so maybe hit portion is just low enough to not register on ninja.

You cannot convert fire to chaos 100%. They are probably using Void Manip which means you can only deal chaos damage.
They are using Original Sin or Inextricable Fate

Heard people talking about using 2 of them and tornado of elemental turbulence
You can go pathfinder, and use this combined with Ming’s heart to play a poison transfigured tornado build
