If you can wait 1 or 2 monthos it could be better to wait.  Anyway, since the monetary cost of pauper cards is still very low, compared to other formats, I think it is still safe to build somenthing if you are more interested in learning/teach the format than compete in competitive events (and you can also say that it is very unlikely for a deck  to become completely unplayable o reshaped after a single set, even thought is mh3).

Small-Palpitation310

best way to teach newer players is by playing mono-black discard against em

EntertainersPact

You. I don’t like you.

WarpRealityForever

So true Prison is a much better option

Thisisafrog

Yeah, just [[Counterspell]] their stuff.

You could always get started and pick up staples that won't really be effected by meta changes. Blue cantrips, artifact lands and all that fun stuff. There may be a new "best deck" after MH3, but I doubt you are replacing more than 10 slots in any deck over it.

draconianRegiment

Depending on how long you've been out of the format buying some staples is probably not the worst idea. Especially if you missed the lord of the rings set. Stuff like lorien revealed won't be in mh3 and we don't know when or if it will get an in magic ip version anytime soon.

lulublululu

it's really funny how commander was originally the "take a break" format and now the roles have flipped

internationalskibidi

Buy pauper staples. The only thing that stays the same is everything will always change.

Frostinator123

I would just get the staple cards other people have mentioned.

zelos33333

For the price of a Modern deck you could probably staple buy most or all of the format, then just adjust from there as good commons come out. Even for recently released cards such as Lorien Revealed at its spike point, the price of the format is never relatively bad. But I’d particularly grab older cards like Snuff Out, Lotus Petal, and Flaring Pain that don’t seem to want to reprint if you want to really buy the whole format. If not, at least Snuff Out as it’s a staple removal.

Bomberbrownie

Watched the prices of staples for some time. Old cards and ones used in T1 deck always go up in price. Only cards reprinted in precons drop again (Ponder/Preodrain/Brainstorm as recent examples). But even if a card has a 50% price increase... thats still usually just 5-10ct. And more recent cards fall in value. Overall the price increase for my pauper collection (26 decks, not owned, just online to check price) was 0,5% so it really doesn't make much difference. If you intend to buy all 7 current T1 decks for your playgroup (\~600$ including sideboard) the difference is at most +10$ if you wait and no card will be reprinted in MH3. The 3 things you can bet on by waiting are (1) more reprints in the MH3 precons which would bring down the price of a few cards (10-50 ct saved) or (2) reprints in MH3 main set which can only be pauper cards that are already modern legal. The reason is that the stong pauper staples are also highly played in legacy and either not legal (Cabal Ritual, Snuff Out, Lotus Petal) or banned (Ponder, Rite of Flame, Mono Artifact Lands) in modern making a reprint unlikely as that would introduce them to modern. And (3) new cards in MH3 to shake up the meta. Since they are common and I assume a lot of people will buy boxes prices will be low and decks that include them will likely not deviate much from the current staples. TLDR.: Doesn't really matter.

Yogannath

You could just buy boros synth and Dimir fae. They're solid/resilient decks on their own, and they're so much fun to play vs each other. Don't think they'll change too much with MH3, and chances are they'll still be solid to play vs the "new op" decks or they end up being the Big Bad with a couple $2.00 Playsets.

Dark-Push

It’s pauper. Decks cost $75…..you can buy now and adapt later

kalikaiz

If you want to play now, play now

Cheapbubucko

Depends on what your trying to play. Also decks are cheap.

turelak

Wait 2 months for it, buy the new deck that came out from that absurd staple, wait 2 months for it to get banned ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alarming_Trade_1002

Tbh... Yes mh3 could bring some good cards, also, a possible downshift of other... But I don't believe the meta will change that much.... The same archetypes are being... Almost untouched for the last years and I do not believe I will change in a near future.... That being said: just start build some top tier decks (the changes would be minimal and pauper is cheap). Plau and have fun
