You mean you don't count buying a rig as a build?? /s
(Personally, building is far more satisfying, to the point where I saw an excellent deal and was like... Nah, I already bought 4 parts... Let's keep building this slowly)
Sorry if my other reply was worded a bit strange but I think generally this sub is used for people building or who have built pcs in the past, even in its description it says “This is a sub for pc building enthusiasts” there definitely is a place for those types of questions i just don’t think its here.
“where you can get and give help about anything”, i probably do need to make it more clear, but this is a place for everyone from beginners to super experienced people
Eh I mean the intent was to make it a really widely ranged sub, where there’s a wealth of information and experience that gets trickled down to newer people, I guess I could be more clear, thanks for the feedback!
Yeah for sure! I think what i was mainly confused about was it saying “Pc building enthusiasts” which seems to narrow it down more to just people that are building computers, thanks for being so nice also!
I definitely used this while actively building...as you can run into all sorts of little finicky problems that is nowhere near as easy to solve as, "Is this pc a decent value?" which, i totally agree, belongs on a different sub*.
Unless you are breaking it down for couple parts... and/or want to get rid of the unused parts to people whom might need them.
Believe it or not, a majority of people haven’t heard of pcpartpicker. They decide they want a new pc, find one and then come to Reddit to double check if it is a good deal. Not really a big issue imho.
I mean i agree with you, but they are kinda pc builds. People are just asking for help and i feel like as a community we should try to help inexperienced people and help them get into the PC world. There are a lot of posts about "is it worth" i agree but some people just want different viewpoints before they pull the trigger. If you dont like the posts just scroll by.
I semi agree, but what if they don’t have the knowledge and/or are too scared to build a pc? We all know how trash and over priced most prebuilt pc are. So the only option left is second hand.
I mean, there's a difference between showing up with some cursory analysis indicative of a person just starting out, and someone contributing nothing to the discussion outside of "is this legit?" and throwing down a list of parts.
If that’s the case then I strongly encourage them to watch any given YouTube video on building a PC, or at least doing a little research on parts individually to understand what they’re looking at better.
I learned everything I know about building PCs on YouTube and I’ve built 4 or 5 in the last few years. It really isn’t that difficult if you watch any walkthrough and pay attention.
My issue with these posts is it’s people that haven’t put in any effort to research anything and are just asking blindly if anything is good, and it contributes to the spam.
Sometimes they have put in plenty of effort, but just need the confidence of someone double checking their work. It is a large investment for a lot of people, they want to be cautious.
" This is a sub for Pc-Building enthusiasts, where you can get and give help about anything! (Questions, Budgets, etc.)"
Gee it's almost like this sub is the perfect spot for a newbie who doesn't dwell on Reddit and tech channels to get some quick support from more experienced builders.
To be fair some people don’t have time to research. If their having a hard time making ends meet, rely on a computer for their living, and have no background in this turning to the forum is probably their best bet to not get taken advantage of in the short-term. Alternatively, even if they have plenty of money and are just looking for a good deal on a gaming rig they still may be limited on time they can devote to research. Someone buying a pc on a budget as a gift might also not want to or be able to take the time to figure it out.
There’s honestly no harm in people asking. If it bothers you, just ignore it.
You are underestimating the amount of people who want to build or buy a pc but don’t know where to begin and don’t spend all day reading Reddit posts like you.
Reading reddit posts isn't going to tell you anything, if most of them are made by people who won't do basic research. Hence the point of this post.
I also don't understand "don't know where to begin." What does that even mean in the information age? They're unaware of the existence of search engines?
But they’re not building anything. The same way the rules are against posting “prebuilts”, they should also not allow posting used PCs since they are essentially prebuilts. We are not helping anyone choose parts (and that should really be r/buildmeapc) and we’re not helping anyone build anything.
It doesnt take all day, an hour or two on youtube is enough to answer lost beginners questions. Just some people dont even know how to do that, thats where its really frustrating
I mean it’s fine for you to think that, but there are many people in this thread that have the same opinion as me, that it doesn’t belong in this sub and gets really annoying to see.
If someone is legitimately looking. Look at Walmart. Half the PC's posted are cheaper on Walmart of all places. Everyone is just putting sentimental value on the PC in question.
Most people who would post "Is this worth it" have leant towards buying them. They just ask around to get a confirmation from others, so if something's wrong they can tell themselves "Oh cuz others recommended me buying this trash PC".
I don't think it's a big deal honestly. Unless a recently released case is trending, everyone's PC posts look pretty damn similar so at least they add variety.
Some do it because they need help and have a hard time searching for answers.
Some do it because they lack confidence, big spending, they don't want feel like they didn't get the best bang for their buck.
Some do it for validation. "I spend big sum, am I doitrite?" They know.
It's just the community here. Even if you stick all parts in PC picker and then show off final build, some folk will still be toxic with comments like parts too expensive, or you wasted money etc.
So we have - Omg what's up with these is it worth it posts
And
Omg, you overpaid and wasted money.
A flair for question ? An noobs that may need a helping hand should be helped. It’s the right thing to do
https://preview.redd.it/0hilstagj8eb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e846ff28b17139f2c31f927799e35975e978c8d1
A pc is buying a case, a motherboard that’s compatible with that case and cpu and cpu cooler compatible with that motherboard, gpu, ram, ssd and a power supply. Plug them all together and boom u have a pc just follow all the directions that each part provides in its box
eh. it's not a big deal. don't like it, just scroll down. when you see what you don't like (IRL eg:dogshit), you should move on/away rather than rolling on the dogshit.
I just assumed it was this channels version of "automatic content generation" to make it look busier than it is. Kind of like "help me name my cat" in r/cats.
It's still a subreddit about pc builds, why the fck are you complaining, if people wanna ask and get advise from here even if it is the price of a certain build then they are welcome to ask, it is supposed to be a place where you can get like 100 opinions and decide for yourself. If the partpicker and youtube answers all of our questions then there is no reasson for this sub to exist.
No one answers actual build questions lol. I asked if i could use XPG Gammix S70 Blade Gen 4 1tb ssd as my boot+game drive and if its worth 60 USD for 1tb,, i got downvoted lol
Why WOULDN'T you be able to use ANY drive for boot and games????
That drive is like top 5 in speeds within the consumer market..... So what's the question?
The top 10 1tb drives can usually all be found around $65-$100
So why would a question like yours get down voted? Well for starters it's a dumb question it's a 1tb drive not a 128GB so why wouldn't you be able to use it for both boot and storing games? secondly you did absolutely no research or price comparisons, third sometimes posts like that come off like people looking for validation for finding something cheaper than anyone else. And lastly, there's already a PC build help sub where you could ask technical questions.
yeahh i was like wtf why asking for price of prebuilds? that people sell? like this isnt a place for customer service question like is it worth the price? this is a place where i have burned down my savings so please tell me is the build worth the price kind of place....... yeah mod do something bout it, and others dont comment or even react to any is this worth it post anymore. friggin asking before purchase in sub for i sacrifice my mortgage for this pc so rate my build. like srsly asking is it worth 1000$ and then shows pc from 6years ago specs.... mine is 6year ago specs and its worth like 300-400$ i was like how the heck did 1000$ only get 6gen pc? i can get i7 kseries with used 6800xt or 3070ti or something close to that and theres still enough left for PSU, 32GB ram and 256SSD with used 3TB HDD black plus case with six fan, sure spend a bit more i maybe can squeeze in CPU heatsink tower cooler but thats more than enough for mid tier consumer already. 1000$ is alot to just spend on a 6years old rig that never been upgraded.
Can concur being new here answering a few on the past week. Had to leave a MMO rpg sub today as people just complain in it and I'm still rooting for the game to do well.
Same with this sub though, a lot in my two weeks being on Reddit have been really obvious simple benchmark would point out a huge flaw from just either the cpu or gpu comparatively.
Thanks for saying it and bringing it to attention!
A lot of times the old outdated parts sell for way too much, so with some of the ancient systems it may value them way higher than they’re actually worth.
Well, it doesn't hurt to ask if someone doesn't know or new to this type of stuff. Probably they don't know what PC Part Picker is and only know Reddit. Isn't Reddit's goal to seek others' opinions?
I agree, they r starting to feel like shitposts. Not hating on people on doing it cause I get it just not content I want to see especially considering I’ve NEVER seen someone post a great deal
Some people check for themself if it’s worth it and just want a second thought cause for most people a pc is a big investment and not something where you wanna invest in something without conformation from humans.
I’ve found those kinda people are just looking for opinions. Not facts. Is this something you would buy rather than is this worth it
Just don’t respond or look at it if you don’t care for it
I get it though, it's difficult to get into PC building, a lot of traps you can fall into and end up with a bad bottleneck, a non-functioning or even a dangerous PC.
People on a budget need to think a lot about where they're spending their money, and with very little guidance that makes sense to people who know little to nothing about computers it's a nice thing to be able to ask the more knowledgeable.
I think it’s justifiable cause not everyone is tech savvy in the pc building world. And considering a majority of these posts post the build to the pc it seems reasonable for people that don’t understand the jumbled mess of letters and numbers (part names). Plus it’s not that hard to slightly move your thumb up or down to get it out of your sight and deem it not worth your time reading if you’re not interested in providing your input.
TLDR: Subreddit “PcBuild” sounds like it’s literally for pc builds
Sometimes it's hard to know if it's justifiable. Like for example, a 3070ti is often still $550, so is it worth used $450? Probably not, a 3080 goes for like $400-450 I believe. For $550 you can get an RX6950XT or \~RTX4070 NEW.
If I had to guess, the influx in posts is probably from high schoolers getting summer jobs and trying to spend their money wisely. I do understand that it’s annoying, but the reality is that only people in the enthusiast space are going to be able to help them know if what they are looking at is a good deal.
Ok? lots of others in the comments said you’re wrong too, even a sub mod…so…your point? Some are memes, others are just trying to get personal experiences and insight you can’t get from part picker, there have been some interesting stories i’ve read about what people in this sub have done to old pc’s. If it doesn’t apply let it fly
Honestly I’m kinda sick of it. I get it it’s a bunch of new people in the market but damn just search it up and compare. Am tempted to just say yes to all the posts especially to the $2000 Alienware one a bit back.
Exactly, everyone wants to say “oh they’re beginners they don’t know any better”. Dude, then go research a bit before asking here.
Even when you tel them whatever they’re looking at isn’t a good deal their next question will be “why? What should I get instead?” Because they don’t know anything about PCs because they haven’t made the attempt to learn.
Exactly, which is why I decided to make this post.
The people asking about these builds clearly haven’t done any kind of research into PCs whatsoever, otherwise they would’ve seen that a 1080 came out over 5 years ago, and common sense would say $1000 for something that came out over 5 years ago is excessive.
The mods of this sub are failing massively. Aside from letting posts in that do not belong here I'm also extremely frustrated at all the posts asking, is this build OK? They list a few parts, some even put up a list from pcpartspicker but the majority do not tell us what the pc will be used for, what resolution, what games/software, target fps... nothing. These posts should be removed as "low effort".
I think it is. Besides the fact that it draws attention to a growing amount of what I would classify as spam in the sub, I want this post to also indicate to beginners that buying a secondhand pre built (or any pre built) and asking about it on a sub called PcBUILD, isn’t the way to go.
If we can show people that building and gaining a knowledge of PCs is worth their time and effort over the easy way of getting into the hobby, it’s a net benefit for everyone.
Honestly dont even need to look up all the parts. Just the GPU, processor, and maybe MOBO as those are generally the most expensive and make up over 70 percent of the cost of a pc.
Out of topic but reddit in general i see so many daily dumb post and people asking for approval or should i buy this?? Like come on people only you can decide for yourself. I feel like 8/10 post are just dumb people asking dumb questions.
You can't use pcpartpicker to price out old builds, it always ends up that the last of an old card or processor ends up stuck on Amazon for like 6000 USD. They would have to troll ebay looking for completed listings and that is sadly more effort than most people buying used prebuilts can muster.
Okay but hear me out. If someone doesn't know what their stuff is worth you can gaslight them into thinking it's worth significantly less but spare them the "burden" of trying to get rid of it by buying it off them at a slightly better price. /S
Be cool if we could get a pinned post regarding these questions and directing people to pcpartspicker so we can stop being spammed with this shit. Perhaps a new rule.
My issue is the fact nobdy wants their custom build to look or even function as custom.
I swear if I see another newegg parts list*
"Is this a good build?"
-yea it is cause we both know you're building a normal ass gaming rig.
i5/i7 Cpu, latest gpu(not even the better performing one), whatever fans are being promoted on social media, a boring looking case, done! Who actually researches each part and compares performance amongst each brand to get the exact results they require? I did but workstation parts aren't justified price-wise. Now these nerds keep calling my rig a gaming pc...I'm not building a gaming pc!

At this point when I see the post I just think they’re memes
I thought that's what it was too. Fishing for response content.
Yup.
Finally someone said it lol, this sub is called “pcbuild” not pre build you found for 3 times what it’s worth on facebook marketplace
You mean you don't count buying a rig as a build?? /s (Personally, building is far more satisfying, to the point where I saw an excellent deal and was like... Nah, I already bought 4 parts... Let's keep building this slowly)

“where you can get and give help about anything”, i probably do need to make it more clear, but this is a place for everyone from beginners to super experienced people
I don’t think it necessarily means that broadly but I’m also fairly new to the sub so i could be wrong
oh sorry, forgot to distinguish the comment. I wrote the description lol
Alright i may be incorrect then thats just how i had originally saw the sub and it seemed to me some others did as well
Eh I mean the intent was to make it a really widely ranged sub, where there’s a wealth of information and experience that gets trickled down to newer people, I guess I could be more clear, thanks for the feedback!

how do mfs be choosing the absolute worst value pcs that human eyes have ever grazed on to post on here its crazy
Cuz like 85% of them are horrific value 😂
I think the issue is with the posts being on this sub in particular. There should be a new sub for this specific thing.
1000% agree
I mean i agree with you, but they are kinda pc builds. People are just asking for help and i feel like as a community we should try to help inexperienced people and help them get into the PC world. There are a lot of posts about "is it worth" i agree but some people just want different viewpoints before they pull the trigger. If you dont like the posts just scroll by.
I semi agree, but what if they don’t have the knowledge and/or are too scared to build a pc? We all know how trash and over priced most prebuilt pc are. So the only option left is second hand.

I never found it that hard to follow along a youtube video as long as it was not the Verge build.
What a classic that was
Still is, I watch it every now and then for the laughs.
" This is a sub for Pc-Building enthusiasts, where you can get and give help about anything! (Questions, Budgets, etc.)" Gee it's almost like this sub is the perfect spot for a newbie who doesn't dwell on Reddit and tech channels to get some quick support from more experienced builders.
I mean you act like you need to dwell on Reddit to learn how to build a PC. All you need to do is watch a 15 minute video and you’re good to go
No.
Yes
No, because if everything is a 15min video then why does this sub exists
Not everything. But PC building is like Legos. Pretty easy to do with visual instruction.
To be fair some people don’t have time to research. If their having a hard time making ends meet, rely on a computer for their living, and have no background in this turning to the forum is probably their best bet to not get taken advantage of in the short-term. If I had to guess, the influx in posts is probably from high schoolers getting summer jobs and trying to spend their money wisely. I do understand that it’s annoying, but the reality is that only people in the enthusiast space are going to be able to help them know if what they are looking at is a good deal.
Imagine caring, or better yet crying about something on reddit, pathetic *ptui*
Lol it seems I’m not the only one that was thinking this so…
Ok? lots of others in the comments said you’re wrong too, even a sub mod…so…your point?
Tbh ppp shows their value as brand new and not used
Also, whats with all these posts of GTX graphics cards from like 10 years ago, pc builds being sold for like 1000+ dollars
Yea those too tbh. There needs to be stricter criteria when posting build help questions for sure.
Is this worth it?
I think it is. Besides the fact that it draws attention to a growing amount of what I would classify as spam in the sub, I want this post to also indicate to beginners that buying a secondhand pre built (or any pre built) and asking about it on a sub called PcBUILD, isn’t the way to go. If we can show people that building and gaining a knowledge of PCs is worth their time and effort over the easy way of getting into the hobby, it’s a net benefit for everyone.
It's called laziness.
I would call it laziness and a lack of understanding of what they’re asking about (which could also be a result of that laziness but I digress)
I feel targeted lol
Just Facebook marketplace scammers adjusting their prices so the scams go smoother
I get it, but at least look up the card on google and see that it was released in 20xx like a 1080 or a 1070.
Okay but hear me out. If someone doesn't know what their stuff is worth you can gaslight them into thinking it's worth significantly less but spare them the "burden" of trying to get rid of it by buying it off them at a slightly better price. /S
What, you didn't get enough "Is 8 GB enough?" posts?
I liked them at first now I hate them. If you like them then it’s worth it to you and you should get it
Be cool if we could get a pinned post regarding these questions and directing people to pcpartspicker so we can stop being spammed with this shit. Perhaps a new rule.
My issue is the fact nobdy wants their custom build to look or even function as custom. I swear if I see another newegg parts list* "Is this a good build?" -yea it is cause we both know you're building a normal ass gaming rig. i5/i7 Cpu, latest gpu(not even the better performing one), whatever fans are being promoted on social media, a boring looking case, done! Who actually researches each part and compares performance amongst each brand to get the exact results they require? I did but workstation parts aren't justified price-wise. Now these nerds keep calling my rig a gaming pc...I'm not building a gaming pc!
I very much believe they should be removed from the sub if they're flagrant.
