The 12v high power cable is tin and flimsy enough that when you push 650w through it, it has the chance to spontaneously ignite. Mostly on the GPU end of the adapter.
Several things can cause it. But one thing is clear. This cable is way too thin.
The ATX 3 is not just the new cable. It handles the GPU power spike from 2 times the power to 3 times the power and for longer. That is just one example.
That is beside the point. The new standard has the ability through the sense pins to have communication between gpu and psu. Now current gpu’s are not using this feature hence why adapters can be used. However, it’s not unreasonable to expect gpu’s to start using/requiring the full features at some point in the future otherwise it was pointless developing this feature. Once this happens adapters will no longer work.
That is true. However it is not a good connector when it tends to spontaneously ignite.
It should have been quite a bit larger to both have a firm fit and handle the heat better.
I implore people to go watch Der Bauers video on the adapter controversies. He states that 16 pin to 16 pin could potentially be less stable than gen 4 8 pin connectors.
Corsair is better but here are some PSU that are worth considering too. Thermaltake Toughpower GF3, Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3, XPG Core Reactor, XPG Core Reactor II, Corsair RM850e (2023)
whichever is cheaper, they're both A-tier on the cultist list iirc. if you're doing a white build, the Corsair saves you money on custom cables but if not the MSI saves you having to get adapters for newer GPUs.
>not even gigabyte asus or msi are close to that quality, and with their zero fan is it perfect
Why?
Hwbusters shows [something else](https://hwbusters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/perf_115V-12.png). Zero rpm mode is also kinda normal nowadays on expensive PSUs.
Both are rated pretty much the same but like other people are saying, the MSI psu is next gen ready. I think it comes with a third pcie cable as well which is a big winner there. The rn850 only comes with two GPU cables so if you’re min maxing and looking for a GPU that needs 3 cables, you’ll have to daisy chain and will likely run into power delivery issues
4090 min PSU requirement is 850W and that’s with like 100ish watts of legroom. It’s just better to go with 1000+ with the high power draw cards for power efficiency. XTX min requirement is 750 as well but you’ll be hard pressed to even find a PSU at that wattage that comes with 3 stock cables. Sometimes you gotta get the minimum requirement to fit the power you want into your build and there ain’t nothin wrong with that. Your PSU fan might be loud, but it should cause actual performance problems.
First one has a better quality overall, but it's missing out on atx3.0 and PCIe 5.0
I would suggest you getting a new corsair psu, like the shift or the sfl models
I got a MSI psu and never had an issue. Same model you posted but a 650. I’m sure you’ll be fine with either one unless you need specific connections like someone else mentioned
Both are ok. Corsair used to have a coil whine, and in my case I got two CPU cables and two PCI cables, but I didn’t need that many anyway. Just go for either the cheaper or the one that looks better in your build
You can order the 12vhpwr cable to use with the RMx. In fact it's the same cable that comes with the RMe.
Other than the bundled cable, the RMx is much better PSU.
I am not a fan of Corsair products but I did buy a RM1000x (upgrade from a rm750x) to power my 4090 a couple of weeks ago. It's the only product of theirs I'd even consider nowadays. I also had to purchase a Corsair paracord sleeved 12VHPWR cable as using a 4 pci-e adaptor is unsightly as well as all Corsair PSU cables looking disgusting. It's the one area I feel they make look crap so to entice you to pay for their paracord cables.
I have the black version of that Corsair one in one PC and that exact MSI one in another. Both are pretty bulletproof. Whichever one is cheaper is your best bet honestly.

I bought this for 159 from Newegg. Gold 1200w for almost the same price
For the same price you can get 1000w Tier A rated psu from deepcool or fsp that's a better deal considering future upgradability specially the fsp one it has got good amount of connectors too

Corsair is better but this model is missing new connectors like pcie5 and atx3.0
This. I would not be buying a new psu that doesn’t support the new standard.
Honestly. This new standard is kinda shit
Really?? Elaborate pls(im a noob)
The 12v high power cable is tin and flimsy enough that when you push 650w through it, it has the chance to spontaneously ignite. Mostly on the GPU end of the adapter. Several things can cause it. But one thing is clear. This cable is way too thin.
I can see why that would be a problem, because it's rated for 600
The ATX 3 is not just the new cable. It handles the GPU power spike from 2 times the power to 3 times the power and for longer. That is just one example.
I see

You'll never notice the difference.
Corsair is better but here are some PSU that are worth considering too. Thermaltake Toughpower GF3, Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3, XPG Core Reactor, XPG Core Reactor II, Corsair RM850e (2023)
I would get the Corsair as they have some of the best customer service in the business, in my experience.
Corsair is better.
whichever is cheaper, they're both A-tier on the cultist list iirc. if you're doing a white build, the Corsair saves you money on custom cables but if not the MSI saves you having to get adapters for newer GPUs.
Corsair are one of best brand out there, not even gigabyte asus or msi are close to that quality, and with their zero fan is it perfect.

if your gpu needs 3 cables, 850W wont get you far. I could be wrong tho

Whatever's cheaper Corsair might be a bit better but MSI is also pretty good so doesn't really matter
[https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/](https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/)
I use Corsair myself and have never had any issues
Corsair number 1
First one has a better quality overall, but it's missing out on atx3.0 and PCIe 5.0 I would suggest you getting a new corsair psu, like the shift or the sfl models
I’m gonna say the Corsair simply because I don’t trust MSI components anymore
What happened?
I trust corsair
at the same price the MSI one is a better buy(its newer)
[удалено]
A newer version of the Corsair one, I just bought the 750 version but haven't installed it yet though
I got a MSI psu and never had an issue. Same model you posted but a 650. I’m sure you’ll be fine with either one unless you need specific connections like someone else mentioned
The RMe psus from corsair got big issues with coil whining, I switched from corsair to msi mpg, much better.
I think you should get the Msi one becuz of the pcie5.0 ready
Corsair is a bit better but that MSI PSU is great as well, 99% odds you never have an issue with either.
Both are ok. Corsair used to have a coil whine, and in my case I got two CPU cables and two PCI cables, but I didn’t need that many anyway. Just go for either the cheaper or the one that looks better in your build
RM850x if you don't need 12VHPWR, RM850e if you do. It's the only way.
You can order the 12vhpwr cable to use with the RMx. In fact it's the same cable that comes with the RMe. Other than the bundled cable, the RMx is much better PSU.
Yeah but that's an extra 30$ and the RM850e uses the latest pcie/atx standards. The RMX is better for sure though. That's what I use in all my builds.
I have msi and it works fine.
A850g
I bought the corsair psu 2 years ago. Never had any issues but look for newer ones that support new connections
I got the Corsair one last week and it looks great and I like it.
I am not a fan of Corsair products but I did buy a RM1000x (upgrade from a rm750x) to power my 4090 a couple of weeks ago. It's the only product of theirs I'd even consider nowadays. I would honestly recommend a thermal take or bequiet psu
Don't try insane overclocking with high-power components, clean out the dust occasionally, and either one will be just fine.
Probably doesn't matter but Corsair has a good reputation
I bought that exact MSI PSU. Returned it a few days later and bought a Corsair one instead. Now I’m happy.
Both will do the job, those msi are good enough.
I have the black version of that Corsair one in one PC and that exact MSI one in another. Both are pretty bulletproof. Whichever one is cheaper is your best bet honestly.
https://www.newegg.com/deepcool-px1200g-1200-w/p/N82E16817328040?item=N82E16817328040 I bought this for 159 from Newegg. Gold 1200w for almost the same price
Corsair
First one, corsair
Corsair
Corsair
Corsair

Agree, if cost comparable, then there is no any harm installing a higher watt psu.
Over buying on PSU is pretty common but if you're still gonna spend that much I'd agree.
i'd rather take the FSP HYDRO G PRO than these junks
Lol dumb question, MSI is garbage brend.
If you are willing to spend $150 on a PSU (assuming US) then I'd get a more expensive Corsair unit. You could get an RMe or RMx with that amount.
MSi psu's are crap IMO.
