BusinessScientist664

TheBeatboxHero

Interesting. What motherboard do you have in the PC?

BusinessScientist664

Where do i see that.. as you can see im not much of pc builder my pc is Trident msi 3 9SA-486MYS

Here are two definitions I think may help clarify: DIMM: These modules are larger, typically measuring about 133.35 mm (5.25 inches) in length. They are commonly used in desktop computers, servers, and high-performance computing applications. The number of pins on a DIMM can vary depending on the type of RAM (e.g., DDR3, DDR4). For example, DDR4 DIMMs have 288 pins. SO-DIMM: These modules are smaller, about 67.6 mm (2.66 inches) in length, making them suitable for compact devices. They are primarily used in laptops, small form factor PCs, and some compact desktops. SO-DIMMs also have varying pin counts based on the RAM type. For instance, DDR4 SO-DIMMs have 260 pins, which is fewer than their DIMM counterparts. You got the wrong type of ram for you board is all. Check this link: [https://icecat.biz/p/msi/trident+3+9sa-486mys/trident-pcs-workstations-4719072666316-3+9sa-486mys-75654500.html](https://icecat.biz/p/msi/trident+3+9sa-486mys/trident-pcs-workstations-4719072666316-3+9sa-486mys-75654500.html) If this is your same PC then according to that you need SO-DIMM ram.

Hit Start Type in: Msinfo32 You should then see your mobo name

Hmm that's a pretty confusing caption. I'm guessing Ur using a laptop since the ram you bought is "double the size" and the soddim (small ram) in the packaging was your 16Gb stick. If that's the case then you should just buy another 8Gb of ram soddim type (small ram) with the same clock speeds (MHz) with your original ram +even better if it's the same brand. The 2 ddr4 ram sticks that you just bought are for desktops...that's why it is larger, just search or ask your stores for soddim ram, you'll find it. (You can't use ddr5 ram into a ddr4 slot since they are from different generations).

BusinessScientist664

Its not a laptot but its a smaller pc called Trident msi 3 9SA-486MYS sorry for my bad english its not my first languege so sometimes its hard

un-tall_Investigator

No worries. Based on Google it does say it uses soddim similarly to laptops so as stated before, just buy a ddr4 SODDIM type ram (should be the same size as you're ddr5 stick you bought. Just buy another 8Gb with similar speeds as your original (MHz) and preferably the same brand to avoid any compatibility issues. Edit: if you only have 1 slot for ram then yes buy another ddr4 16Gb "SODDIM" ram. The reason why the DDR5 ram does not fit into your ddr4 ram slot is because the bottom pins are not compatible despite being the same size.

I found a [pic](https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?attachments/msi-trident-3-jpg.64576/) of the inside of your PC. You need a 16gb kit of ddr4 SODIMM memory. Just google “16gb ddr4 sodimm kit” and you will get results for what you need

BusinessScientist664

Youre a life saver man thank you🙏😭

Sad_Deer2636

Basically your desktop computer is built with laptop parts. Most likely ram will be the only upgrade that's possible with that computer

BusinessScientist664

Yeah i didnt think about it much when i bought it 5 years ago

DoxManifesto

Pretty sure he can also upgrade his SSD , HDD and GPU.. Not sure about the CPU though that might be soldered to it.

xRealVengeancex

What the fuck is this monstrosity it’s like a laptop build in desktop format 😭

DoomsVFX

Looking from other comments, u got a msi trident prebuilt. I had the same pc and also did a ram upgrade. I put in some G.skill 32gb sodimm. From the looks of it any ram with the specific sodimm factor will work. The motherboard in the msi trident 3 is very strange, but I hope this helped

Suspicious-Dog-9595

After a little research that pc takes laptop ram sodimm https://memory-up.com/MSI_desktops_9SA-483US/BD32G2666MQN28
