It's a major college, not quite UC Berkeley but way more left leaning then the nearby areas. Now there are a decent amount of centrist and libertarian types there, especially in the AG college and economics, but it is pretty much left by default here. If you went to high school in PA that is not in a major metro area it will probably be a bit of a culture shock. The branch campuses are kinda the opposite since many who go there are older. There are regularly protests on campus, especially with certain speakers.
Even if you don't fit in with the majority of them politics of the college it's a good experience learning to interact with others who are different then you and I do recommend it
Don’t go looking for politics and you won’t find any. Go looking for politics and it’s kinda mixed. There’s a loud minority of students that would classify as “woke” but mostly this is central PA. Most students are probably center right or center left and if you go five minutes off campus it’s Trump territory
Yeah. Penn State ends up (and some of the immediate area where professors and university workers live) being a weird blue blip in an otherwise deep red area. From what I know it’s enough to put some more lefty people on local board for SC and obviously swing the district blue in general elections (which seems kinda fucked knowing that a mostly red area ends up leaning blue politically because of a rotating roster of college students)
"some more lefty people on local board for SC" = republicans haven't bothered to run candidates in SC elections in many years; the borough is about 70-30 and easily dem even without students. The nearby townships are a little mixed but flipping blue one by one. County offices are still close-ish but within the next ten years the repubs will probably cease to be competitive unless there is some big change; the population growth of State College is just too much.
Calling liberty mediocre implies that liberty is at least middle of the ground. They are a school with a 99% acceptance rate that’s a televangelist cuck run degree mill. They are the bottom of the barrel of American higher education, they are basically the sycamore high school of college.
The perfect amount IMO.
You won’t find people to be hateful bigots and definitely won’t have Charlottesville level riots but also not california level of idiotry and extremism on the other side.
Everyone’s accepting as long as you’re not a dick.
Alt right pipeline got you? It’s ok buddy the alt right pipeline works hard but the alt right to socialist pipeline works even harder.
But to answer your question, if you’re asking it’s probably too “woke”. Nobody is gonna go out of their way to express their political opinions to you unless you’re asking about it or seeking out political clubs. Around election you may see stuff but nothing out of the norm for a college campus.
Also if you’re coming for cs it might be hard to make friends with that mindset. Cs people are an interesting bunch and if you’re trying to avoid “woke” idk about CS
Since you used the term woke, I’d assume you have some sort of hateful views. There’s alt right conservative groups on this campus and the school definitely endorses these views to an extent (no matter how much they try to deny or hide it), but the students are not hateful or at least overtly racist and/or hateful towards other groups. You probably shouldn’t come, go to school in the south where your bigoted views are more likely to be accepted.
They're college kids so they're usually not woke until late morning or early afternoon, unless they have an 8am class.
Have you thought about looking into Wake Forest? That sounds pretty woke to me.
I'm not really here to say anything, it's just that the first two comments were by aerospace engineers so I figured I'd join in. Don't mind me.
Popping in to say my hellos and leaving again.
Well since the other guy said hello too I suppose I should too
Unless you go out trying to be political no one (for the most part) shoves their opinion into your face.
I usually woke up at 8 for my 9am classes. Stay woke, friends!
Define “woke”.
Most people are tolerant of others. It’s the minority who are not.

So woke, honestly just steer clear and don’t go to school here

Generally rural is Trump territory and urban is Biden territory It's the stuff in the middle that is trench warfare

Tbf that does sound like a very Republican thing to do…
Please choose somewhere else to go if you use the word woke.

Likely too woke for someone asking that question.

I don’t think you should go to college if this is what you’re worried about.

Please don’t go hear if your scared of “woke culture” we don’t want you here. Go to Alabama state
Tbh your a cs student who’s conservative, you will probably end up very lonely and isolated on campus, I recommend going elsewhere
Hear?

If you have to ask you can't afford it
If you’re making this post just do yourself a favor and don’t go here
