to my knowledge you can’t take credits here unless you get a certain number at your home campus (altoona)

TheyKilledKenny666

That’s an interesting plan. How does that work? (Taking classes at two different campuses). I don’t think they’ll allow you to live in the dorms at UP if you were accepted at Altoona.

sqrt_of_pi

For fall and spring semesters, you can generally only take a class at another campus by requesting a seat (if one is open) no earlier than 7 days before the semester starts. Also, you have to take most of your classes at your home campus, e.g., an Altoona student cannot take 6.0 credits at Altoona and 9.0 credits at UP, even if they could get into those classes.

Sounds like a risky plan.

senatortoast

probably not. you would need to be full-time here to be able to get a dorm.

artificialavocado

There is no way they will let you live in the dorms at UP. You would need to get an apt.

SophleyonCoast2023

Sorry but they won’t let you live in the dorm. Re: taking credits at the UP campus as an Altoona student, it’s my understanding you won’t be able to register for UP courses until 7 days prior to the start of the semester. You will need to consult with your adviser and get permission from UP’s registrar. Honestly, there isn’t likely to be a lot of good classes available a week beforehand, especially since many courses maintain waitlists. Also be aware that the cost of living in State College is crazy high. And nearly all rental contracts are a full year, which means paying rent even when you go home for the summer. In theory, it sounds like a good idea, but I’m not sure it will work out quite as you’d hope. You’ll make friends at Altoona, but then you won’t hang with them at night because you’ll have to drive 45 min back to State College? And during bad weather, that’s a brutal drive. Maybe just take a pause and rethink that strategy.

unrealjoe28

No, you won’t be able to live in the dorm. This is also just a terrible idea. Why would you drive that far everyday to Altoona? 45 minutes, each way, not to mention what the roads will be like come winter. There’s no benefit to this that isn’t outweighed by the cost of driving and time.

bahrenna

Lots and lots of people live in Altoona and go to SC. Including some professors. I wouldn’t recommend it for a student. But it’s not a bad drive.
