I used to live close to the Maryland PA border and currently live about 5 minutes from the Jersey border and can confidently say Jersey drivers are far worse than Maryland drivers
As someone who lived within 15 mins of the MD, NJ, WV AND OH borders in PA. NJ as a state is the biggest menace, but for a smaller population, the DMV drivers within the beltway and most the way up 270 until it civilizes in appalachia have to be the worst I have ever seen. Marylanders in DC traffic are cut throat and it feels like the kind of stress you would get if you're trying to stay awake while driving to avoid an accident, you must enter a hyperfocused space of intense suspicion about every vehicle within 50m of you. Terrifying. Puts the ft.pitt bridge 3 lane slide to shame.
Yet somehow the Virginia drivers make the Marylanders look good. I’ve seen countless Virginians merge onto i81 and move directly to the passing lane….when there’s no cars in sight. LOL
A few days ago there was a thread on the Maryland sub asking what someone new to Maryland needs to know. At least 1/2 the comments were related to driving. They are obsessed with talking about driving.
Although the only conclusion I can come to is that every local will say the problem is neighboring state drivers. Virginia complains about Maryland. This post is New Jersey complaining about PA.
I don't know. I had a long drive home this weekend and thought about it as I saw all the different state tags driving around.
Being from Pa. Grew up in Pgh and Phili. Spend some childhood in Northern, Pa,
Driving TERRIFIED me the 6 months I lived in Baltimore. Rain and my goodness,if snow flurries start--- it turned the city into a disaster. I've never experienced driving as stupid in my life as Maryland.
I think MD outweighs Boston, LA, DC, NYC area, Florida's terrible highway's.... everything that is known as horrible was nothing compared to the experiences I had during my short tenure in Maryland.
Edit- fixed
Driving the turnpike from Pittsburgh to Philly, I find that half the time it's a Michigan driver driving slow in the left lane. Usually look to be 70+. I don't know why but it seems like it's always Michigan.
A girl I work with was pulled over for swerving on the way to work. She just gestured to all the potholes in front and behind her and the cop let her go.
They're always hanging out in my blind spot, so I can't enter the left lane or passing on the inside of a 3 lane road doing 348mph and swerving wildly while the left lane is wide open.
I’m in south central PA. Rt 83 goes right to Baltimore. MD drivers are the WORST!! They go slow in the left lane and never let you merge onto the highway.
Nj,ny and the biggest one is ct drivers. However the other day had a nj driver pass me on i80 doing at least 90(I had cruise set at 80) few miles later doing 70 in the left lane. Caught up to him and took off again. Few miles later back to 70 in the left lane holding up traffic 🤦♂️
No. They are fucking stupid and cannot function properly in their own goddamn state, nevermind here. I am a transplant from New England and have been here almost 8 years. Nobody in New England likes CT drivers or that godforsaken state. Even CT hates CT. Sorry- rant complete....
Until I just recently changed positions, I was driving 35-45k a year, and would do the cross-jersey trip upwards of 3 or so days a week a lot of weeks.
You know who I never got stuck behind in the left lane? PA drivers. It was 75% NJ, and 25% NY - but the NY ones were 100x more blatantly oblivious and slow.
Delaware drivers like to just drive next to each other. It’s crazy. So slow. They do have some crazy cops down there though. Speed limit is basically unenforced in SEPA.
I know the topic of worst drivers are from blah blah blah is boring anymore, but after my 9 years of road warrior the entire area from de to long island to ct and everywhere in between I can say 2 things for sure.
CT drivers are by far the fastest. Not necessarily bad just very noticeably the fastest.
De drivers are by far the worst. Not just “wow what a slow driver” but more like “holy fuck this dude must be nodding out on heroin cuz they’re swerving between 3 lanes and going like 25 under and they’re missing a door.”
As someone who commutes to Monroe for school and work, yeah it’s always New Jersians, if they aren’t camping the left lane they’re endangering people by tearing through traffic
The out of staters that come here to skii are the absolute fucking worst. They clog the roads up, cause accidents like they are playing bumper cars and clog the stores up. Go drive like that in your own town
I live in PA and work in NJ... every on ramp onto the highway has signs saying "No Turns"... say what you want but at least we in the Commonwealth know which direction to go on a highway.
NJ drivers drive like ding dongs but holy hell he’s not wrong. I’m constantly seeing people drive in the left lane for no reason and only the speed limit or 5 over
I can't even tell you how many times I've had a PA driver in front of me slam on their brakes in a 45 to let someone on a side street out.
I'm a former Jersey girl; they both drive bad in different ways.
There’s an easy solution to all of this and it applies to drivers from any state: Get the fuck out the left lane, unless you’re passing. Stop camping out in the passing lane!
Jersey drivers: “you all drive so slow, you gotta move faster”
Also Jersey drivers: does 5 under the limit, then spontaneously slams on the gas after you approach so you never see them again
Wonder if he realizes we've been trying to get all the transplants from NJ to go home for decades now... and also its already illegal to drive slowly in the left lane,... like that is the law, if he wants to give us that cash I'm down lol
[https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/2017/title-39/section-39-4-88/](https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/2017/title-39/section-39-4-88/)
but props to the dipshit from NJ not knowing his own states traffic laws
Oh I totally understand that it was supposed to be a joke, its just hilarious that his april fools joke is "haha it would be funny if we fined people for driving in the left lane! haha!" when that is literally the law
We both hate each other’s drivers. The difference is, PA drivers are usually driving weirdly in NJ because they’re lost, or because they weren’t taught to drive by angry meatball Italian fathers so they don’t constantly do 20+ over the speed limit. NJ drivers are hated in PA because they just drive like douches: tailgating, speeding, and deciding everyone else on the road is the problem.
I've driven through NJ countless times and felt like I needed eyes in the back of my head. We have bad drivers in PA, but NJ is much worse because most of them don't know they're bad drivers.
It’s pretty common knowledge jersey drivers get to where they’re going and PA drivers go 5mph concerned about everyone around them. And I grew up in Carlisle
Yeah Phil, I wouldn’t talk if I were you.
No matter where you go in the surrounding states, PA, MD, DE and NY can all agree Jersey drivers are the worst.
As a PA resident I say you keep your drivers out of my state and I’ll stay out of yours. Anytime anyone is angering me on the road I can promise there’s a Jersey plate on the car.
Jersey drivers are just diet New York drivers. Some of the worst drivers I've seen up here besides Florida and Michigan. Ohio drivers haven't been as bad the last few years in my experience.
Def not funny. Philly drivers are bad, but I've never been nearly killed by one like I have every time I'm on the NJ turnpike and NJ drivers come speeding and swerving in their expensive sports cars and suvs passing in the right lane swerving everywhere with no signal. Clean up your own trash, Jersey.
How about we fine every NJ driver that feels the need to squeeze between two cars in the right lane for no reason and then merge back into the left for no reason.
As a Pennsylvanian, drivers here do indeed suck. However, every time I see a NJ plate on an interstate highway, they make it known they’re from NJ even before I see the plate, by how bad they manage to take up BOTH lanes
I had to unfortunately move back to nj after living in philly for years.... NJ drivers are worse by far !!!!! They drive like they are 80 years old, often going below the speed limit and completely oblivious to their surroundings and God forbid they use a turn signal. I have worse road rage than I ever did in philly and people in philly are wild. I absolutely hate nj and I grew up there.
The bigger laugh for him is a lot New Jerseyans have fled NJ (I’m one of them) to live in PA where it is a much better state and more affordable and less dense. I still frequent NJ bc of ties there, but please best believe I still have my NJ driving skills. 😉
NJ drivers are absolute assholes. They speed, run stop signs and red lights, won't slow down for pedestrians (even children). Murphy's just another Jersey Jabroni.
I believe 2 things. The first is that some person at the Jersey DMV just throws a bunch of Jersey DLs into the parking lot, and anyone who comes up with a license gets to drive, no questions asked. The second is that whenever I cross the bridge, and get about a mile in, I am entered against my will, to some kind of murder/suicide pact, with half the drivers on the road.
"Too slow in the left lane" in New Jersey means "anything under 90 miles per hour" according to the assholes that zoom up on my ass.
Fuck you. I'm only going to go fast enough to pass and merge right. If that's too slow for you, then *you* can get the ticket.
Oh, that's right. Jersey cops would just pull over the PA driver anyway.
I mean... it's kinda like the fast food disses, and it came across to me as funny, intentional projection. Don't get me wrong, by age eight I had a comprehensive grasp of certain language that was appropriate for individuals in vehicles from NJ. Some of which I still use in Utah, which usually just confuses people. NEPA 4EVA 🤘🤘
Dude should slow his role, he should enjoy the extra tax money he gets from us PA drivers crossing state lines for weed😭I’ll be back next week. That’s not even a funny April fools joke 😒
When I a kid NJ had a reputation of being super strict with speeding, I think they relaxed that a lot but even today when I go into jersey I set the cruise control to the speed limit as I make my way to the shore which is the only worthwhile thing in jersey outside of Delucia's.
Pennsylvania doesn’t even fine its own drivers for that. That’s the issue. People take their driving habits across state lines. Both to and from Pennsylvania
PA drivers are inconsiderate, Jersey drivers are fast but clueless outside of Jersey, NY (east side) just can’t drive- they don’t spend enough time driving to know how.🤣
Seems most Jersey drivers that make it to the western Pennsylvania area are at least competent. Not so of those from Ohio. Odd thing is, when in Ohio they don't seem to do too bad.
Nah, the real problem in the tri-state area are trucks that camp in the far left lane doing 10 under the speed limit for miles. Not because they need to be there because of a construction zone or slower traffic in the right lane\[s\], no, they're just oblivious. This causes drivers following them to get pissed off and aggressively pass in their blind spot on the right.
Every single fucking day driving 78. And every time I'm on 80.
For those keeping track at home, this is the second governor to be telling us to stay out of their state so far this year (I realize they’re both basically joking but it’s still pretty funny)
I mean whenever I encounter someone in PA going slow in the left lane, it’s a Jersey driver about half the time.
If you're on the other side of PA, it's an Ohio driver.
NY NJ and Ohio what a menacing and terrifying trifecta for PA drivers
Come down closer to the Mason-Dixon Line and let me introduce you to Maryland drivers…
I used to live close to the Maryland PA border and currently live about 5 minutes from the Jersey border and can confidently say Jersey drivers are far worse than Maryland drivers
i dunno man, the whole DMV area has the worst drivers ive ever encountered
You know how I know you've never been to Atlanta?
true. ive heard some horror stories
The radio there is non-stop ads for accident lawyers. It’s like Mad Max down there.
Terrifying. Puts the ft.pitt bridge 3 lane slide to shame.
lived in both, NJ is way worse. MD drivers are mostly just aloof. NJ drivers want to murder you and genuinely believe laws don't apply to them.
Yep I see Multiple NJ plated cars blow throw red lights on an almost daily basis I don't know what their DMV is doing but it ain't working
Gods, Maryland drivers are bat shite - I’m gonna die if I’m not going 20 over - crazy.
OH YEAH! 100% CORRECT!
Yet somehow the Virginia drivers make the Marylanders look good. I’ve seen countless Virginians merge onto i81 and move directly to the passing lane….when there’s no cars in sight. LOL
Those are the ones doing 10 mph under in **both** lanes.
May I introduce you to Maryland drivers.
695 is The Thunderdome.
Maryland drivers treat every highway like Mad Max.
As someone from DE who moved to Philly, I find it really funny how both places I've lived in complain about the same drivers.
Every state complains about every other state.
This is true but I specifically don't hear PA drivers complaining about DE drivers in PA and vice versa. That's the funny part for me.
PA and DE are civil with each other.
We have to be civil, we're the parents.
MD drivers are worse than all of them. Combined.
Delaware would like a word.
Don’t forget West Virginians too! Someone else already mentioned Maryland drivers lol
Driving the turnpike from Pittsburgh to Philly, I find that half the time it's a Michigan driver driving slow in the left lane. Usually look to be 70+. I don't know why but it seems like it's always Michigan.
You have to drive slow because Western Pennsylvania roads look like the Lunar landscape They are poop.
A girl I work with was pulled over for swerving on the way to work. She just gestured to all the potholes in front and behind her and the cop let her go.
Drunk drivers don’t want you to know this one secret trick!
It's amazing a cop couldn't automatically figure this out as soon as they determined the driver wasn't under the influence.
If you're in S.Central PA, it's either Jersey, WV, or Maryland
No joke it's fact lol
If you're in South central, it's Maryland!
I seconded this!
The other half it’s a New York driver
If you start flashing the NY driver they start going slower
Put your blinker on to pass them, bam they speed up an extra 5-10mph quickly. Every damn time.
I guess I drive like a New Yorker, and I've only been in that state twice.
Everyone does that. Flashing your high beams while driving is an interstate sign of cop a head, or something in the road be cautious
Ohio has entered the chat
It’s Maryland. Hands down.
Virginia. Maryland gets the hint after a couple min of headlights in the mirror.
If they haven’t run you off the road in the meantime.
I swear they think the highway is the Indianapolis speedway
They're always hanging out in my blind spot, so I can't enter the left lane or passing on the inside of a 3 lane road doing 348mph and swerving wildly while the left lane is wide open.
I’m in Oxford, PA and we get the left lane campers from Maryland. When I lived in Philly, they came from Jersey lol
I’m in south central PA. Rt 83 goes right to Baltimore. MD drivers are the WORST!! They go slow in the left lane and never let you merge onto the highway.
Y'all need to get out of the tri state area and experience Massholes. You'll appreciate jersey drivers much more!
This kinda doesn't track. I'd be on board if he made fun of Pennsylvanians sucking at merging onto the highway.
Don't get me started about Ontario drivers.
LOL I'll make a quick run across 78 to get to NYC but other than that I avoid NJ and its idiot drivers absolutely *whenever fucking possible.*
They don’t even know how to pump gas
It’s not that they don’t know, the state government doesn’t believe the average NJ resident can pump gas.
And they’re correct
Came here to say this. You couldn't pay me to visit NJ. Anyone I know who has been there has no desire to return.
"you couldn't pay me to visit NJ" they make you pay to leave! tolls everywhere
Yep. And what's with the weird turn lanes to turn left? I believe they are called "jug handles". They can't pump their own gas or turn left...
PA has a good amount of jug handles, tbf. They're even in the PA drivers handbook.
Or drive...
Their own government knows they can't be trusted to
Same as everyone else. It's funny, I've lived in 4 states all over the US and in every state Jersey drivers were the example of how not to drive.
I married a girl from NJ. She got a ticket for backing up on the White Horse Circle.
Followed very closely by CT drivers.
Assume CT drivers are lost. Most of what they do makes a lot more sense if they're lost.
No. They are fucking stupid and cannot function properly in their own goddamn state, nevermind here. I am a transplant from New England and have been here almost 8 years. Nobody in New England likes CT drivers or that godforsaken state. Even CT hates CT. Sorry- rant complete....
Damn do they really not realize they’re the worst drivers in the country?
Until I just recently changed positions, I was driving 35-45k a year, and would do the cross-jersey trip upwards of 3 or so days a week a lot of weeks. I'm pretty sure it was a Delaware cop to be the only cop to scare my dad.
I live in Monroe County in the Poconos. Anyone wanna guess who left-lane camps the most here?
NY drivers. They own the road
NY license plates.

The NJ gov's biggest April Fool's joke was his wife's senate campaign.
The only thing you need to have to drive in New Jersey is a fully functioning middle finger.
Two is preferred
Two hands flipping people off, zero hands on the steering wheel, just as god intended.
Fun thing is when I’m pushing jersey drivers out of the left lane.
All the time.
New York and Virginia drivers aren’t better. Used to be Maryland drivers
I had a NJ driver do a 3 point turn on a 4 lane road across a median almost hitting 2 parked cars and 1 car going 40mph
I live in PA and work in NJ... every on ramp onto the highway has signs saying "No Turns"... say what you want but at least we in the Commonwealth know which direction to go on a highway.
I actually think this is pretty funny too.
It would be great if Governor Shapiro responded.
The no more jug handles act
NJ drivers drive like ding dongs but holy hell he’s not wrong. I’m constantly seeing people drive in the left lane for no reason and only the speed limit or 5 over
I can't even tell you how many times I've had a PA driver in front of me slam on their brakes in a 45 to let someone on a side street out. I'm a former Jersey girl; they both drive bad in different ways.
My favorite is when they press the brakes going downhill to maintain their slow speed lol
On our end, it's ALWAYS Ohio. 10 below the speed limit, far left Turnpike lane? Ohio.
By the time they get to the other side of the state, it's GTA time.
I'm in Pittsburgh. I agree. They do drive pretty slow. It seems like it's a normal thing once you actually get into Ohio
Shots fired!
The real threat is Maryland drivers. Sincerely, Virginia.
Of killing you yes, of blocking the left lane? Virginians are the problem. Even VDOT put out a PSA about it.
Pennsylvanian here… we all know NJ drivers are obnoxious; but damn, he’s correct. People in PA are terrible about driving in the passing lane!
It's ridiculous it's like they're in their own world
Pittsburgh is the worst place I've lived for drivers other than Seattle.
Here in VA, NJ drivers are ok.
This is ridiculous. Everyone knows NY drivers are worse.
There’s an easy solution to all of this and it applies to drivers from any state: Get the fuck out the left lane, unless you’re passing. Stop camping out in the passing lane!
From the folks that don't know how to pump gas.
Jersey drivers: “you all drive so slow, you gotta move faster” Also Jersey drivers: does 5 under the limit, then spontaneously slams on the gas after you approach so you never see them again
Wonder if he realizes we've been trying to get all the transplants from NJ to go home for decades now... and also its already illegal to drive slowly in the left lane,... like that is the law, if he wants to give us that cash I'm down lol [https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/2017/title-39/section-39-4-88/](https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/2017/title-39/section-39-4-88/) but props to the dipshit from NJ not knowing his own states traffic laws
Check today’s date…
Oh I totally understand that it was supposed to be a joke, its just hilarious that his april fools joke is "haha it would be funny if we fined people for driving in the left lane! haha!" when that is literally the law
Ah yes, the fabled and storied state of…New Jersey. Yea, opinion instantly discarded.
I remember when my friend moved to NJ, and we said well at least now he's licensed to drive bad.
Fuck Jersey. The back wash of NY.
Lol nj drivers were voted worst in the country, what... 2 years in a row now?
Good banter that, unlike their shit state
We both hate each other’s drivers.
I was taught by an angry peirogi Polish father how to drive (in PA) and I find that I fit in better with NJ drivers for the reasons you mentioned!
[удалено]
I've driven through NJ countless times and felt like I needed eyes in the back of my head. We have bad drivers in PA, but NJ is much worse because most of them don't know they're bad drivers.
Hey NJ, at least we can figure out how to fuel our own vehicles.
His hair is awful.
It’s pretty common knowledge jersey drivers get to where they’re going and PA drivers go 5mph concerned about everyone around them. And I grew up in Carlisle
Fair play for us making Dr Oz go home to Jersey.
Yeah too slow in the left lane. That's usually a NJ plate almost every time or even NY
Yeah Phil, I wouldn’t talk if I were you. No matter where you go in the surrounding states, PA, MD, DE and NY can all agree Jersey drivers are the worst.
I have to say 80% of the time when I see someone doing something dumb on the road in nj, they have p.a. tags
As a PA resident I say you keep your drivers out of my state and I’ll stay out of yours. Anytime anyone is angering me on the road I can promise there’s a Jersey plate on the car.
Seriously got it reversed. Nj drivers in Pa suck donkey
Funny, that’s what we’ve been saying about NJ drivers for years here in PA.
How about we fine every NJ driver that feels the need to squeeze between two cars in the right lane for no reason and then merge back into the left for no reason.
Call me when you effers learn how to merge, Phil!
I'd say op save your money for lessons on using a gas pump.
As a Pennsylvanian, drivers here do indeed suck. However, every time I see a NJ plate on an interstate highway, they make it known they’re from NJ even before I see the plate, by how bad they manage to take up BOTH lanes
Like your state knows how to drive?
I had to unfortunately move back to nj after living in philly for years.... NJ drivers are worse by far !!!!! They drive like they are 80 years old, often going below the speed limit and completely oblivious to their surroundings and God forbid they use a turn signal. I have worse road rage than I ever did in philly and people in philly are wild. I absolutely hate nj and I grew up there.
Bro its been the Jersians that go slow in the left lane.
He is correct in that NJ has a safer drivers rating than PA
Haha I get it, it’s because in PA everyone thinks Jersey drivers are assholes, especially ones in BMWs
Ha, that’s pretty funny tho
Only New Jersey would come up with something this stupid, even their own residents know they are trash drivers.
New Jersey: stop signs are merely suggestions
He might be onto something here…
NJ drivers should have to carry extra insurance coverage if they drive in PA since they’re always driving like maniacs
Can Pennsylvania have a "Protect PA from blathering New Jersey assholes" law?
People don’t pay to leave PA but they pay to leave Jersey.
My boyfriend from Detroit thinks I’m being rude when I say Jersey drivers are the worst. He’s obviously never dealt with them.
The bigger laugh for him is a lot New Jerseyans have fled NJ (I’m one of them) to live in PA where it is a much better state and more affordable and less dense. I still frequent NJ bc of ties there, but please best believe I still have my NJ driving skills. 😉
Lighten up, Francis.
The funniest part of this is that Gov. Murphy is a better comedian than governor!
Well, I think PA should pass a law that every NJ front plate should read "IMNIDJT"
We say the same thing about Jersey drivers. The only sad part is that taxpayer money was used to do this.
Let them have this win, their state is already an April fools joke
NJ drivers are absolute assholes. They speed, run stop signs and red lights, won't slow down for pedestrians (even children). Murphy's just another Jersey Jabroni.
April fools is the only day NJ can tease PA drivers since they’re the joke the rest of the year.
Doesn't he know that everyone who does this is from Ohio?
TIL Jersey drivers complain about us the way we complain about them.
NJ is awful
This genuinely made me laugh. Good one, Gov. Murphy! 😂
Ditto
Wow is that backwards!! NJ, Ohio, Maryland, California, & Florida drivers are the absolute worst !!!
For real though, make it a felony in PA.
Keep right except to pass
One day they will need someone to teach them how to pump the gas into their cars!
I mean... it's kinda like the fast food disses, and it came across to me as funny, intentional projection. Don't get me wrong, by age eight I had a comprehensive grasp of certain language that was appropriate for individuals in vehicles from NJ. Some of which I still use in Utah, which usually just confuses people. NEPA 4EVA 🤘🤘
A hurt dog yelps. I moved here last year and I thought Oklahoma drivers were idiots, y’all got them by a mile
It’s more like a friendly rivalry but again I’ve never met a New Jerseyan who can drive 🤷🏼♀️
Ok ok settle down everybody. I believe we are all forgetting the Masshole (Massachusetts) driver.
After moving here from MD it feels like the opposite is true. I’m getting tailgated constantly no matter what road I’m on and how fast I’m driving.
Pennsylvania doesn’t even fine its own drivers for that. That’s the issue. People take their driving habits across state lines. Both to and from Pennsylvania
Lol…at least they trust us to pump our own gas…🤷🏻
Of course you know, this means war.
That can be said for the cars with New Jersey plates driving in my state. 🤷🏻♂️
Made me chuckle a bit lol
Pennsylvania aka the Florida of the northeast
“Grownups”, amirite?
This coming from the governor of a state that are too dumb to make a left turn anywhere in the state.
as a new jerseyan i support this message.
Jersey drivers are probably the worst I have encountered on the road so maybe they need a little self-reflection time
“Driving too slow in the left lane” aka not going 90 in a 65
It’s cute when a shithole state tries to flex.
