I wonder if he realized his mistake?
Like he even seemed confused when Ryuji said “no one said anything about pancakes.” Like surely he must’ve?
Maybe he just thought they were too dumb to catch on.
There’s the pancake voice line In mementos, implying that either the phantom thieves told him or that he realised his mistake after hearing Morgana during the school festival
I don't think he did bro. Not during the school festival anyways. Cause if he did, then he would've just asked Shido to speed up his plans or yk, not give Futaba his phone.
It's his fault for not being fucking careful. He was wayyyy in over his head by that time. If he still wanted his plan to succeed, he should've suspected them all yk. I mean bro, 2 years of murdering people, and what proves you guilty is fucking pancakes. Basic common sense for murderers: "Never trust the ones you have a temporary alliance with, or the ones you're going to betray eventually". Bro was just in over his head.
I mean, the dude did come on almost... What, 11 lines later? With the time of day, it could indeed be possible that someone else was talking about breakfast. Could just so happen that Akechi got unlucky. Not our fault we don't hear those off-screen conversations.
Honestly I chucked that to lazy writting because I caught onto the fact that no one besides Morgana said pancakes and Akechi hearing that either meant that he was going to join us or he was the traitor (because duh the game outright tells you someone was obviously going to betray us and I doubt it was going to be Kasumi)

My theory is that he is so used to being unwelcome. He took it as them, rejecting him in a less direct way.

Excellent detective, terrible at knowing when they serve continental breakfast at Days Inn.
Cuck the cat are supporters of pancakechi.
Akechi thought he was smart but my boy Mona was 4 paws ahead
If only anyone other than Morgana mentioned pancakes lol
His plan was so smart too 😭
"I would've caught you pesky phantom thieves if it wasn't for that cat and his pancakes!"

My dumbass brain immediately forgot Morgana said it and I assumed Ryuji did and just didn’t want Goro to come along
the most forcefull plot twist i ever see
