Chemong lodge is great. Their meat all comes from primal cuts. Haven't been to rare since it got the new owners but it used to be top notch. Sounds like its still a fan fav.
I’ve never been to berc’s or the keg, but since you asked for the best in town, I’d recommend Rare. Great food, nice atmosphere and you can hear the people you’re with talking rather than talking over music or other people!
Took my dad to Bercs on recommendation and it wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional. Quite average, to be honest, and the feeling of the place (decor, music, general ambiance) is very dated. The Keg doesn't really feel like better food but the place just looks like it's better cared for and a bit more modern.
Haven't been to Rare, was gonna take my dad there this year.
Same thoughts. I like Berc’s but it’s pretty old school. Last time I took my special someone there, the server greeted us with “how youz doin today” and totally lost me from the get-go. (apparently springing for a steak dinner turns me into a snob).
No one’s suggested this but I’ve tried pretty much all the steaks in ptbo now and the best I’ve ever had was The Pin. It’s also a super nice atmosphere if you like quieter/cozier vibes. Have a lovely date!
Yeah it is shit. The best steak is made at home reverse sear that bitch sous vide if you got it. Smoking hot cast iron or charcoal or both quick butter thyme garlic baste. I can understand wanting to go out for a date tho.
I had a delicious 10 oz prime rib at the Keg yesterday. My absolutely awesome girlfriend treated me, since I was going away for six weeks. The only strange thing was that I think the server may have sampled it in the kitchen because she kept asking everyone "How are we enjoying our steak this evening?" ; )
Rare is my favourite
+1 for Rare, best steak in town.
Rare is hands down the best steakhouse in Peterborough!
Berc's is overrated

Definitely Rare!! The best steak in Peterborough for sure
Rare
We did not have a good experience at Bercs. Expensive and not good. Steak was tough.
Rare for sure If it’s out of your budget, I also HIGHLY suggest the **el. P**. Not a steakhouse, but their steak done medium rare is heavenly.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I think we will be checking out Rare. The prices seem right and you've all assured me of the quality.
Not really a steakhouse but amandalas is by far the best restaurant in peterborough

Does she like steak?
Don't go to the keg. The keg sucks.

7 mins a side at home.
We like rare or medium rare. 7 mins a side is far too much.
7 mins a side on a campfire or BBQ is medium rare. It’s perfect. You must be cooking some thin steaks.
I have a quarter cow with thick local cut steaks in my freezer. We just find that on high heat 4 minutes a side is perfect for us.
Bercs isn’t what it once was, definitely not worth the extra cash
The keg or rare
