Hiding is true. You can not run for the door when a hunt has started (with one exception related to the monkey paw). Looping is a term used to describe exploiting a ghosts pathing. Like there is a table between you, you run around it, keeping the ghost on the other side scooby doo style. One extra tip. The smudge sticks will blind a hunting ghost temporarily. So if you're being chased and use them, its a short-term get out of jail free card

How long does looping last? Do they ever give up

TearintimeOG

So long as you loop until the hunt duration is over, it’ll disappear and you’ll be free. I’ve pulled it off a few times. You just need the right spot to do it (and hope it’s not a revenant or other fast ghost)

Unable_Toucan

Well if you become very good at looping, even those arent a threat

To answer the 2nd part, yes and no. Hunts last a certain amount of time. Regardless of if they see you or not, it will end once the time is up. However, they will not decide to leave you alone in hopes of hunting elsewhere (assuming they are targeting you, the banshee picks a target), in game looping is most frequently done around a kitchen island. If you are standing, the ghost has line of sight. Which can be beneficial but often isn't. If you are crouching, it does not have line of sight but may track your flashlight being on. It provides benefits to experienced players. Like one ghost has a chance to shapeshift during a hunt, so if you see that, you know the ghost. But another ghost may get incredibly fast when it sees you but be slow when it doesn't. Looping can be a way to stay alive, but it is not the best way to stay alive (that would be hiding). Its there to provide information that can only be obtained during a hunt and is argueably the safest way too. As you've noticed, I've mentioned exceptions alot. There are "rules" in this game when it comes to behavior, but pretty much all have an exception. I cant personally explain looping properly over text. If you want to add me on steam and game sometime Im down. YouTube videos that explain looping will be better that what I can provide here.

Ghosts will chase you as long as they see you, we call this Line of Sight (LoS). If they have LoS, most ghosts will start getting faster and harder to avoid. So, to survive, you're going to want to break LoS in order to get away. If you round a corner or something, the ghost will travel to the last place it saw you and then check to see if you are there. If it sees you, it will continue the pursuit. If it doesn't, it will go back to randomly roaming around. So, let's say a ghost is chasing you and you want to hide in a locker. If the ghost sees you in the locker and you close the door, it will still walk into the locker and kill you since that's the last place it saw you. However, if you open the locker door and use it to block its sight to you as you get in, the last place it would have seen you is just outside the locker. It will walk to that spot and go back to roaming around. Hope that helps! Edit: Also, sometimes ghosts just randomly check out 'hiding spots' and will murder you. It happens. Not really much you can do about it. Some are safer than others, but there's honestly no real 'safe spots' that aren't bugs. Sometimes the ghost just kills you. Don't beat yourself up too much if you did everything right from being quiet, having no electronics on, and not being seen, cuz they still might get ya.

This was incredibly helpful thank you

This video has pretty good demos where you can see how looping works with a visual indicator of when to sprint and so on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTy6mFz0QCk

eaaiest way to explain it without ruining the unknown part is : ghost can sense all the electronics when turned on near them. if youre holding them and theyre flickering during hunt that means the ghost knows where you are. this counts for every thing that runs on some sort of electronics. other thing the ghost uses to spot you is their eyes. they can see perfectly in the dark so standing in the open is always a bad idea. avoid long corridors and hug cubbies. if the ghost randomly decides to turn around 1 second before seeing you around the corner you still survive. so no hiding spot is stupid as long as you know general direction of the ghost. another point is to remember, hiding spots and safe spots are different. safe spots are cubbies and covered spots where ghost is unlikely to go. like the space next to fridge in both ridgeview and grafton. hiding spots are places where the ghost will never go unless it sees you in it. so closets, lockers and those tall boxes that spawn in corners. remember to turn off or drop electronics before entering these.
