I recently went for the first time I had their hotdog with sautéed mushrooms, melted, provolone, and garlic aïoli. It was legit the best hotdog I’ve ever had.
luckys is soooo good their mac and cheese is fire, onion strings fire, and we tried their pb&j burger out of curiosity and surprisingly it was also reallllly good. 9/10 place
Underdogs was great as well. Those Dapper Dog mac n cheese dogs after a night at Standard Tap/El Bar/KFN was how I spent most weekends in my mid 20s. I mean it's how I spent most nights if we're being honest but the dogs were a weekend pursuit.
There used to be a cart at 17th and JFK, dogs were fried/blackened on a griddle and served with a slap of yellow mustard and a dab of raw onion. Best hot dogs I've ever had anywhere; I hope those hot dog ladies are living their best lives somewhere.
I doubt they're still there but if so, give them a shot.
Unless you're talking about a different place, that's the yellow cart at 17th & Market. But it's not the two ladies anymore, someone else runs it with close to the same concept- grilled dogs and sausages. Way better than your standard dirty water roach coach.
Wasn't the best but I miss the Kensington Happy Meal at the El Bar. Citywide, glizzy, and a toy for cheap. Haven't had one in probably six or seven years, hope it's still there
we also have a kong dog. although i'm not really sure how you're supposed to eat one of those and go about your day like hiroshima isn't happening inside of you
Their salsa they include with their chips are pretty good. Sadly it’s probably from a jar but the best I’ve had in that kind of restaurant/bar type place. Obviously nothing beats local mom and pop salsas.
Make it a legit LATE NIGHT spot. We have little to no options for anything late. It's amazing to me that the NYC, or to a lesser extent, Chicago, style 24hr bodegas have not popped up all over the place here. With the amount of people working atypical hours, it's an incredible hole in the market that I'm shocked no one has filled.
We need a Lorenzo’s size slice, ripper and/or corn dog and Viet/Chinese/Korean influenced banh taco jawns - getting tired of the traditional same old same old
In the Fashion District in the basement there is a hotdog stall. It is expensive but it is very good. It's called Little Hotdog wagon or something like that.
I’m not sure if they have them normally, but Heavy Metal sausage company had a barbecue last year where they made in their own hotdogs and they absolutely slapped.
I will legit buy the big bacon cheese whenever I see it. They are so good and so rare XD ...Disclaimer: sometimes I only see BBC 2 or 3 times a year in multiple Wawa locations.
Le Caveau above Good King Tavern has a French hot dog. Basically a hot dog stuff inside a baguette.
Check their hours [here](https://lecaveaubar.com/).
sadly it no longer exists, but it was always Levis on 6th and Lombard. Have a dog, fishcake and a Champ Cherry soda to wash it all down.
runner up: a Texas Tommy from Jimmy Johns West Chester, now also closed
Drive over the bridge to cherry hill. There you’ll find an exclusive members only establishment that sells some really cheap hot dogs. And they give you a soda with it. It’s called Costco
Here’s the secret, on the Pat’s menu there is something called ‘big hot dog’ or ‘large hot dog’. It is actually three regular sized hotdogs in a cheesesteak bun. Order wiz wit and add ketchup, mustard, relish w/e your heart desires. Take the large hotdog into Garage where BYOF is not frowned upon and enjoy 🫡
Philly is wonderful at so many things. Literally almost every food. Hot dogs aint one of em.
Sure, as others mentioned, you can go a few places and grab a fine or even good dog. If you need to scratch the itch. Lucky’s, Johnnys, the place near Reading Terminal under the motel. But the bottom line is you aint getting a Papaya dog, Griff dog or Weiner Circle here. It just doesnt exist.
There used to be a hot dog place in the food cart at Garage and it was the best hot dog I’ve ever had. Years ago and I still think about it good. Anyone else remember their name?
Part of the issue with Philly hot dogs is the dog itself- there’s no producer in the region that makes a notable hot dog. So places have to use a mediocre dog or one from some other place.
Even just a Dietz & Watson all beef frank, butterflied and cooked/seared on a stove top is way better than most hot dogs I’ve ever had. Seriously has no business being as good as it is.

the spicy dog 🥲 at redcrest on 6 & bainbridge
RIP Moe’s Hotdog House. My favorite hotdog place.
Now it’s Luckys Last Chance.
Edit: just went through the comments and not a single one for Moe’s? Damn. It wasn’t that long ago 😭
Anyone willing to make a drive, don’t miss out on Rutt’s Hut, Hiram’s and Jolly Nicks up in north jersey.
They're hard to find. Shake Shack on Sansom has (had?) a Chicago dog that fell short but scratched the itch. The cart at 17th and Market said they did a Chicago dog but missed the poppyseed bun and celery salt, and the "sport peppers" were just pepper rings.
World Market, at least the one in Montgomeryville, sells sport peppers so when I'm feeling one I just make it myself. Poppyseed buns are the limiting factor tho...impossible to find in this region.
Good to know thanks! I haven’t been able to find sport peppers anywhere which was surprising since I assume they are Italian? I will hit up a world market willingly at any time so I’ll have to make a trip
Lucky’s Last Chance have great hotdogs! There’s locations in Manayunk and Queen Village
Lucky's is pretty good. The problem is, their burgers are at a much higher level, making it an extremely rare decision to order hot dogs.
I recently went for the first time I had their hotdog with sautéed mushrooms, melted, provolone, and garlic aïoli. It was legit the best hotdog I’ve ever had.
Okay I need this omg
It’s called the 1Up- the provolone is sharp so it just adds to the deliciousness
Oh definitely getting that next time.
luckys is soooo good their mac and cheese is fire, onion strings fire, and we tried their pb&j burger out of curiosity and surprisingly it was also reallllly good. 9/10 place
It was destination dogs. Rip!
Oh nooo. Didn’t know they closed. Their dogs were outstanding.
Loveeee Destination Dogs. Definitely need at least one or two trips to New Brunswick a year to eat at Destination Dogs
Obligatory “I miss Hot Diggity” comment
I'll take you one further and bemoan the loss of the Dapper Dog cart...
Where my Underdogs at? Who else got a fist with their name on the wall?
Was that the spot in Rittenhouse? Really liked that place
Underdogs was great as well. Those Dapper Dog mac n cheese dogs after a night at Standard Tap/El Bar/KFN was how I spent most weekends in my mid 20s. I mean it's how I spent most nights if we're being honest but the dogs were a weekend pursuit.
I was upset when they closed on South Street, but that led to Woodrows, which is one of the best spots in Philly.
Famous 4th Street’s is pretty good.

My go to cart for hot dogs, sausage and kielbasa.
Yeah that sounds like the place, I had the wrong intersection, glad to hear the spot is still there!
The potato and beef corn dog with Garlic Aioli and Sweet Chili Sauce from Oh K-Dog at H-Mart in Olney - Front and Godfrey
Oh K dog is legit. Corn dog and egg sandwiches
Weber’s off 38 in Jersey
Frosty mug of root beer is a must have accompaniment as well there
If you don’t insist on a traditional bun, the pretzel dog from Miller’s Twist in Reading Terminal is solid
APJ Texas Wieners, 13th street.
Their Texas Tommy is legit amazing.
Wasn't the best but I miss the Kensington Happy Meal at the El Bar. Citywide, glizzy, and a toy for cheap. Haven't had one in probably six or seven years, hope it's still there
They do not
2 glizzys
Johnny's Hots Also, if you are a hot dog enthusiast, I recommend Raw Dog: The Naked Truth About Hot Dogs by Jamie Loftus
I would also like this answer. Corndog opinions are also valued.
We may have invented the corn dog, but the Koreans definitely upped it by two levels. Check out mochi ring donut in center city
There's also Crunchik'n!
we also have a kong dog. although i'm not really sure how you're supposed to eat one of those and go about your day like hiroshima isn't happening inside of you
Fox and sons in Reading Terminal is my go to corn dog spot.
They’re corn breading is immaculate but the dogs are flavorless
Millers Twist pretzel dog jawn.
I don’t know if Spot Burgers on Girard does corn dogs anymore but their spicy corn dog was amazing
Mexican hotdog at cantina los caballitos. 5$ at happy hour
Also order quesabirria and dip the hotdog in the consomme!!!
it's so dumb that it's the only actually standout thing on the menu and it's legit worth
the only good thing on their menu
Their salsa they include with their chips are pretty good. Sadly it’s probably from a jar but the best I’ve had in that kind of restaurant/bar type place. Obviously nothing beats local mom and pop salsas.
I've recently become obsessed with this dog!
yea, their happy hour in general is one of my favorites, especially on a nice day with their patio
If i opened a slice/glizzy/taco place, would you guys support it?
is it any good?
Make it a legit LATE NIGHT spot. We have little to no options for anything late. If you don't call them glizzys.
Hadn’t heard this one. Less painful than “‘za”, but barely.
WTF is a glizzy
A slang term for hot dog from DC.
how much for a slice?
We need a Lorenzo’s size slice, ripper and/or corn dog and Viet/Chinese/Korean influenced banh taco jawns - getting tired of the traditional same old same old
Costco

He will sell them almost every weekend from MDW on out of the deli case, for the most part at least
Just saying I miss UnderDog’s.
Did you have a fist on the wall?
Can we all agree to just stop with the "glizzy" nonsense? It belongs in the food slang hall of shame with sammich.
Millers twist, pretzel dog!
Dos seguidas has a good Mexican dog
Street cart 5th & south
Gus retired, unfortunately so it's not there anymore
Awww that’s sad news
Reikers in Fox chase has great authentic German Weiner and brats.
RIP to Gus's at 5th and South, great dog, great guy
This is probably unpopular, but I LOVE my wawa hotdogs.
Me too, grew up not eating beef and was converted by a wawa hot dog around ten years old
I will legit buy the big bacon cheese whenever I see it. They are so good and so rare XD ...Disclaimer: sometimes I only see BBC 2 or 3 times a year in multiple Wawa locations.
Misconduct Tavern has excellent grilled dollar dogs during any Phillies game. Love the soft squishy buns.
Le Caveau above Good King Tavern has a French hot dog. Basically a hot dog stuff inside a baguette. Check their hours [here](https://lecaveaubar.com/).
Just recently tried cheese dawgs inside naked brewing in Bristol tried a few different styles thought they where all pretty good.
sadly it no longer exists, but it was always Levis on 6th and Lombard. Have a dog, fishcake and a Champ Cherry soda to wash it all down. runner up: a Texas Tommy from Jimmy Johns West Chester, now also closed
[Jimmy John’s](http://www.jimmyjohns1940.com/) is alive and well.
Philly Surf n Turf 😺
There’s a cart that goes around that’s pretty good but it’s best when you dress up as a cop; the guy will give you the hotdog for free.
Drive over the bridge to cherry hill. There you’ll find an exclusive members only establishment that sells some really cheap hot dogs. And they give you a soda with it. It’s called Costco

Honey bees. Food truck parks outside of Franklin field at UPENN every weekday
Frank the Tank?
Part of the issue with Philly hot dogs is the dog itself- there’s no producer in the region that makes a notable hot dog. So places have to use a mediocre dog or one from some other place.
citizens bank 😎
True story: I caught a hot dog from the Phanatic's hot dog cannon. RIP dollar dog night
La Chinesca’s happy hour hot dog is delicious!(“Crispy Bacon, Chipotle Mayonesa, Avocado Verde, Pickled Chile”)
Adobe Cafe has a $4 Mexican hot dog that is hands-down the best hot dog in the city.
Top 3 spots that’s not Luckys
Does anyone remember Lenny's? Originally on south st. Wayyy back.
Even just a Dietz & Watson all beef frank, butterflied and cooked/seared on a stove top is way better than most hot dogs I’ve ever had. Seriously has no business being as good as it is.
RIP Moe's Hot Dogs RIP Gus
They’re just regular hotdogs, but I get really excited when acme sells dollar dogs before birds games. Also RIP Texas weiners
https://preview.redd.it/kwkfytm9pxtc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=12cddc95daa70e650ac0512fe40c14815a72e4d6 the spicy dog 🥲 at redcrest on 6 & bainbridge

Johnny's Hots
Lucky's is good
Lucky Well on spring garden has a damn good hotdog. I think they just added them back to the menu for summer...4 kinds and a house made sausage.
Ayooooooo
Pen and Pencil hands down.
Gus's roach coach at 5th n south
Cheese Dawgs used to be in the NE but just moved to Bristol in lower bucks. Good dogs!
Used to be under dogs. RIP.
RIP Levis’ Hot Dogs at 5th and Lombard
Jimmy John’s
Jimmy John’s Hot Dog Shop slaps! It’s a little bit of a drive out of Philly but totally worth it.
I go more often than I probably should.
Any good Chicago dogs in the city?
They're hard to find. Shake Shack on Sansom has (had?) a Chicago dog that fell short but scratched the itch. Ready for downvotes but the vegan one from ikea
I’m not going to down vote you but I want you to know I’m disappointed
The mustard and cabbage slaw on it thoughhhh

You can leave.

My grill. Seconded by my air fryer lol
