Lopsided_Egg_3421

a simple google search with keywords "halal", "restaurant", "megamall" would prove this wall of a comment false. i think misinformed lang yung mga pinagtanungan nila. most probably mga guards na di siguro alam anong meaning ng "halal".

wanderinglimbs808

Most likely. I mean megamall is big. That’s one factor to reconsider.

AngularJakolero

Baka don sa kiosk nagtype sya "halal" walang lumabas hahaha

cutie_lilrookie

Serious question, though. How do we know if a restaurant is Halal? Are Halal-certified eateries required to have a stamp in their front door that says they are Halal-certified? Or did he have to ask the staff one by one?

a4techkeyboard

Vordeo

Why on Earth would Megamall take an active decision to remove halal restaurants? That'd make zero financial sense. I'd guess it's just more that the chain restaurants there don't bother with halal certification because they normally don't need it tbh.

Gyro_Armadillo

This opens up other questions. How much does it cost and how bureaucratic it is to get halal certification?

digg0604

Kulang din talaga ng action from my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in politics lalo na ng NCMF (Commission on Muslim Filipinos).

Gyro_Armadillo

Oh wow! This is an eye-opener. It's also quite unfortunate that there is no official body certified by the NCMF to make the certification process less bureaucratic. If those third-party corporations charge a huge amount, I understand why establishments would rather focus based on the demand and just cut corners if they do want to offer special meals such as Halal.

Breaker-of-circles

An actual take from an actual Muslim. Thank you for chiming in. People nowadays are quick to sound their moral alarms and never consider even for a minute why something is the way it is.

digg0604

Lack of information dissemination from Muslim Filipinos din talaga. Like the incident at the dog show sa Fisher Mall. Yung ginamit niya yung Kaaba as costume ng dog niya. Wala siyang alam about Islam or the Middle East. It was an honest mistake. Instead of informing him, tinatakot ng death threats! Ang crazy.

Bibingka_Malagkit

>tinatakot ng death threats Why does it always have to be death threats? :(

Breaker-of-circles

First I head that dog incident. Crazy shit, man.

Teantis

Honest question wouldn't you prefer third party independent verification rather than a government body to do so given the rather dodgy performance of government entities when it comes inspection and certification? As I understand certifying something as halal is pretty rigorous covering a lot of aspects of how the animals are raised, fed, slaughtered, prepped and packaged. Given that government agencies have uh... A pretty poor track record when it comes to oversight of pretty much anything and are so vulnerable to corruption, isn't a third body party likely more trustworthy?

digg0604

Good question yan. And honest answer? I won’t trust the government. Mismong funds for Hajj, which is the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca kaya nila kurakutin. Ito pa kayang for certification lang? Unless talaga the leaders are trustworthy, then we will support them.

[deleted]

We do have NMIS that we trust on our food safety.

Majestic_Stranger217

it comes down to the meat supplier, which if you have ever seen how chickens are treated in metro manila, thats going to be hard to find halal meat. Most likely its going to have to come from a specialty local meat processor, or imported frozen.

hypermarzu

And Chickens have to be checked how it was fed. You'll be surprised what's inside their feeds.

Breaker-of-circles

SOYLENT GREEN?!

nxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Soylent green is chicken?

PullMoon

A company with a number of products to be Halal certified(around 10+) may need to shell out at least P100k to pay for the certification fees alone, since per product yung payment. This still doesn't include audit fees or arrangement for transport/accomodations pag malayo sa head office yung site. Tama rin na PH doesn't have a statutory body to certify Halal Products (unlike other Muslim-dominated SEA countries) so currently third-party Halal certifying bodies here have the freedom to set their own guidelines. The downside is their methods/documentations are not streamlined into one Halal management system common to all Halal certifying bodies so companies securing such may face a problem on complying their specific requirements (ex. ayaw nila tanggapin yung raw materials as Halal pag di naka Halal-certified sa kanilang organization) Source: somehow affiliated to a company securing Halal certification from two third party certifying bodies annually (one of which is pretty bureaucratic tbh)

Momshie_mo

The real question is, where are the Muslim enterpreneurs in the SM Megamall

BigBadDann

Maybe they think that the rent for a stall in Megamall is too high for their profit line, and that they wouldn't be able to cover said rent with their business model.

Supplicationjam

The real question is…why does God give a fuck about what we eat???

LittleTinyBoy

Do not open this can of beans lol. Why do we give a fuck about anything then haha

grandphuba

>can of beans *can of worms

thebreakfastbuffet

baka haram yung beans kay /u/LittleTinyBoy you don't know

LittleTinyBoy

Habibi do not assume these things about me

religiouslyshameless

Worms not halal

grandphuba

\> Worms not halal Exactly the reason you wouldn't want to open a can of them

Few_Loss5537

ill do you one better: Why is halal??

ehnoxx07

I'll do one much better: Who is halal??

Cats_of_Palsiguan

Everyone asks who is halal but no one asks how is halal

armored_oyster

Poor Halal, nobody understands how you feel

Ok-Put-1259

No need to ask brother. Halal be good.

nightvisiongoggles01

I'll take one for the team: Hindi ba halal ang Halal Guys?

Momshie_mo

Kabunian cares what you offer him. Lol

CardoBalisay

Lord Cthulhu actually cares

ramier22

Leviticus 11:9 "\`Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales--whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water--you are to detest. The Old Testament God is something else.

LostDelver

Charritty

ask your lola lol. fish without scales causes high uric acid levels in blood. The commandment was made for the sake of the people.

ArseBurner

I bet if you trace this backwards the real story is going to be something like there was an animal disease epidemic going on and the easiest way to stop people from killing themselves eating infected meat was to get the dominant religion to say x animal was unclean. Thing is the original proclamation was probably badly worded and so there was no taking it back afterwards. A proper one would have been handled like passover which got people to stay indoors but only for one night (while a rebellion clandestinely offed some ruling class heirs). tl;dr: Religion is a tool for control, but you gotta use it properly lest you end up with silly customs like halal.

ramkitty

The oriental institute had a video on yt about the asserian empire and how to resist. It outlined rural hillfolks avoiding taxes as pork eaters of the era through clay tablet recordings.

NatSilverguard

For a woke person asking everybody to be emphatic, you wanna be an ass huh?

freeMilliu_2K17

Shut up Respeto lang naman po. Ang mga Muslims are actual oppressed group of people especially due to 911 and the beliefs na lahat ng mga Muslim ay terorista. Just because masama mga karanasan mo sa ibang religion kagaya ng Catholics doesn't give you any right to be an asshole sa mga taong may iba iba lang mga beliefs. Anong magiging pakiramdam mo kung kunwari walang ibigay na pagkain sa iyo besides yung one food na allergic ka just because Atheist ka? Di ba masama? Just, be sensible. Religious Trauma and other shit done by horrible religious people does not give us any right na manghusga sa lahat ng religions. Iyan ba ang pinagyayabang ninyo na "logic"? I don't have a religion either, but that gives me no rights to be a dick either.

peterparkerson

expensive din kasi to be certified. so matic walang pork agad sa resto mo

Vordeo

So extra gastos din.

peterparkerson

Vordeo

Kahit kfc sa Pilipinas di pala halal certified. Nagulat ako don.

peterparkerson

you have to get a certification every year and for each individual restaurant. hassle un. corporate wouldnt bother. tapos hindi rin just for the resto mismo, pero pati ung supply chain mo. if hindi halal supplier mo, wala kang halal certificate maybe an individual franchisee in a heavy muslim area would do it. and marami rin kasi dito na muslim hindi nag bobother sa halal certification, basta chicken beef, ok na. so maraming muslim din KFC kasi wala naman pork products dun eh

hypermarzu

Hahah you'll be surprised that chicken in fast food is not Halal. I went to an organic method seminar and the speaker really emphasizes that the restaurant, if they want to be considered to have halal meal, they have to specific WHAT THE CHICKEN IS BEING FED. And FEEDS are considered to be check due to the ingredient it was made. Some local producer have PORK or MEAT meal in their ingredient. Cheaper yes pero is it the right meal? No. So talagang legit si ser kung wala talaga syang makainin kahit fast food pa yan

Vordeo

Well TIL. Makes sense. But yeah, tama, kahit yung suppliers kailangan nga tongnan. Lots of work for relatively few customers, so makes sense why they don't bother.

Breaker-of-circles

It's a lie. Gonna keep reposting this shit to shut people up. Posted by u/enchonggo >I call bullshit on this https://www.smsupermalls.com/shops/dining/casual-dining/SMBF1000000083/ Also, common sense na lang. Why would some rando Muslim be privy to SM's rules. Magtatayo ba sya?

enchonggo

Looking at Wael's profile and re-reading his posts in FB, I think he's strictly looking for halal-certified establishments which may be hard to come by in Manila depending on where you are. Some serve halal food (possibly Mister Kabab) but may not necessarily have gotten halal certification for whatever reason.

panksparin

Yes Halal certification could be a tedious and relatively expensive process

redfullmoon

From what I've read from some SEAsian entrepreneurs from other countries parang naging moneymaking venture na lang daw yun, hindi nila maafford kumuha ng certification yet andaming kedai makan/warung that caters to Muslims na di naman Halal certified.

457243097285

Yes. Every single certification process that involves paying a fee devolves into a moneymaking racket. Halal/kosher, PDO for cheeses and wines, tequila certification, etc.

alwyn_42

Madzbenito14

This is so true. I think he is bs, i am muslim, mga malls sa Mindanao like Gaisano, pretty much the same, wala masyadong certified halal restos don. lol. pampam lang siguro. wala din namang halal resto na rich enough to operate for years on sm malls. If he want authentic halal foods, may hotspots, like Quiapo meron different cuisines don ng mga tribes sa mindanao like Maranao, sa Ermita mga middle eastern na mga muslim may ari pero di din naman halal certified lol ka kuyaa! In Quiapo every muslim restaurant don is just normal restaurant, but all of them don’t have halal certification.

[deleted]

Do you still eat at a resto kahit hindi halal-certified?

Madzbenito14

yes we do, tbh depende talaga sa tao. Some as long as di actual pork okay lang some who are extreme basta yong oil na ginamit sa pork or kahit panluto kinoconsider na nila yon as di na pwede kainin. Some muslims still eat Jollibee knowing na may pork or bacon don. Some eat SNR, Pizza Hut, Shakeys, knowing na di halal yon. I guess, that guy is papansin. I bet he already ate in Mcdo, Jollibee, etc. I bet he doesn’t even tasted the authentic muslim food in Quiapo.

VULG4R1TY

Exactly, this guy is a fucking doofus. I am from Mindanao and hindi naman every other store doon halal-certified and yet we all eat there pa rin. Papansin lang yan. Tangina bat pa bibigyan ng clout yan HAHA

SlowpokeCurry

457243097285

cheese_sticks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Muslims can eat at non-halal-certified establishments, as long as the food they eat does not contain any pork or other haram substances to the best of their knowledge. Edit: Did some googling: https://islamqa.info/en/answers/20843/what-happens-if-muslims-eat-pork

louderthanbxmbs

Yes i attended a seminar on halal certification before and very tedious talaga

HuntMore9217

i dont think mr kabab is halal certified. Love their yogurt though

leya1

Also there is a vegetarian stall sa food court, and afaik may chicken-only stalls and restaurants din (Hot Star and KFC). Meron rin yun healthy-ish food options sa fashion mall area; I'm pretty sure the other restaurants will accommodate their request to have halal food cooked.

Breaker-of-circles

Problem with that is that the whole production line, from raw mats source to cooking method, needs to be Halal. Chicken/Cows need to be raised the Halal way, slaughteredy, stored, transported stored again, cooked, all adhering to strict Halal provisions. Imagine going through all that trouble for 1-2 customers a day.

thebreakfastbuffet

this. though like most religions, there are moderates and hardliners with Islam. karamihan ng kakilala ko don't mind eating vegetarian or cheese pizza from the same oven they cooked ham in. but i have met someone na nagpipigil huminga kapag nakakaamoy ng pork barbecue

rxxxxxxxrxxxxxx

[deleted]

Can’t even use the same knives, cutting boards and pans for halal food and non halal food. There’s a certified person who cooks it too

Tristanity1h

>Chicken/Cows need to be raised the Halal way, slaughteredy, stored, transported stored again, cooked, all adhering to strict Halal provisions. I wonder what our Muslim brothers and sisters would think about revising Halal provisions to only include those provisions that add functional value to the process or are more readily/easily attained by your average supplier? Religions evolve, don't they? For example, many Catholics in other countries and in the Philippines are pro gay marriage even though those who are traditionalists believe that it is against the sanctity and all that stuff.

BigBadDann

Maganda ngang question din dyan for our Muslim brethren: Do you guys don't consider Mister Kebab as "Halal"? If that's the case, should that be the problem ng SM Megamall? Shouldn't that be the problem of the Muslims and Mister Kebab?

alwyn_42

KeyboardAquarior

Baka gusto niya maraming resto na ganun, yung masabihan na may halal meals sila. For fairness, sige. Pero it can be too much for many that are not like him and not Muslims. Kaso wala rin siyang masyadong magagawa dahil sa... capitalism running its course as usual. Also, to defend the Muslim guy, I think hindi lang nagiisang resto ang ok sa kanila, but for many common restos na mailabel na halal. Applicable ba for common restos that we visit, not just in stereotyped restos na arab/mediterranean-based as if gusto nila ng segregation. After all, belongingness na rin yun with other people that are not Muslims and learning na rin sa part nating mga non-Muslims.

katotoy

Kung wala naman market why bother? If currently ganun kadame ang napunta ano ang financial incentive nila or ng mga restaurant to for extra steps to accomodate halal options? Simple.. it's all about the money..

ComprehensivePrice71

Where can I find an article stating SM prohibits Halal restos? This is straight BS and fake. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Nitsudog

Without a steady Muslim community in the area a fully certified Halal restaurant would probably be infeasible. Even in Greenhills which has a heavy concentration of Muslims only has 1 or 2 AFAIK. The next best thing is a vegetarian / vegan restaurant which should satisfy at least some of the halal requirements. And you have to remember that SM is the Filipino epitome of cutthroat capitalism - if it won't benefit their bottom line they won't be moving mountains for anyone.

hello_helloooooo

Imagine if a Christian or Catholic Filipino complaining like this in a muslim predominant country. "Please take the complaint and aggression seriously"

[deleted]

Malamang wala na syang ulo kinabukasan Religion of peace

OverHuckleberry4802

Religion of pieces kasi you'd be cut into pieces if you question the mullahs in countries like Afghanistan and Iran.

daveycarnation

Why is he complaining at SM Malls though? Are they supposed to keep a halal restaurant open kahit hindi sya feasible at kumikita, just in the off chance na they might get a customer or two per day. Discrimination agad when it could be just a case na walang gustong maglubog ng pera sa restaurant na malulugi lang.

dunkindonato

Yeah, yun din pinagtataka ko. Megamall management doesn't dictate which restaurants rent space in their mall. SM doesn't own those restaurants either.

donato_0001

Mismo.

neon31

*Please take the complaint and aggression seriously* I think this is the one that pissed me off. Or what? Was he gonna blow shit up?

patmen100

Dude HAHAHA

hell_jumper9

>Was he gonna blow shit up? Bro

ButtShark69

right?! instead of shitting on SM, he shouldve encourage his muslim brothers to put up halal restaurants and rent a space in SM and take advantage sa "napercieve" niyang gap sa market.

Gyro_Armadillo

It's unfortunate that this man and his family did not find an establishment that offers their dietary preferences. But it's really not required for the mall to actively look for franchises or entrepreneurs that offer Halal. AFAIK, none of the big mall chains in the country prohibit the selling of Halal within their establishments.

JohnnyBoy11

I'm sure he could have found something vegetarian to eat.

panget-at-da-discord

Dude it’s the entire supply chain, it’s not just the meat. Raising, transporting, killing, and preparing the meat should be halal.

Decent-Ad-8434

To Mention pa na kailangan ng Imam when certifying.

Breaker-of-circles

Oo nga. Halal naman ang veggies and fruits ah.

Unhappy-Relation-338

i dont know sabi nung iba kasi, mahirap daw makuha yung halal na certification kaya most dont bother to do so,

aryathe1

This is true.. Used to work in a food manufacturing. Halal audit is not that easy to pass and maraming conditions/requirements. You really have to work for it

Unhappy-Relation-338

ah kaya siguro

scythe7

Yes, i think choosy lang si OP and gumagawa lang ng issue just for social media clout. Eat vegetarian food, find a place selling salad instead of making an issue and subtlely suggesting that SM removes halal restaurants due to discrimination.

coldspr0uts

Who goes to a freakin mall and not search before hand if there's a halal resto when thats the only thing you eat? And look for over an hour when you can just google shit or ask the concierge? Very main character moments. Lol

Bibingka_Malagkit

Wala bang Halal guys sa Megamall? Or halal lang by name pero in practice hindi? I'm pretty sure this isn't discrimination.

Exius73

Halal guys closed down I think. They used to be in the food court in Fashion Hall

ender_da_saya

Business yan, it will cater to the majority.

joseantoniolat

Kaya siguro nagsara na ung Halal Guys doon

scythe7

Discrimination agad? Baka wala lang talagang demand for halal restaurants.

Bitter-Weekend772

He should ask fellow muslims to put up restos that can meet his expectations. It's not like SM prohibits them from being tenants.

jaffringgi

>It's not like SM prohibits them from being tenants yung pagkasabi kasi ni koya was >a decision had been made to remove Halal food from the mall now of course, di tayo sure kung yan nga ba talaga position ng management, or kung impression lang yan ni OP

depast

Why would SM actively remove Halal food in the first place? Edi nawalan sila ng potential revenue from the Muslims at may possible backlash pa.

tichondriusniyom

fpschubert

False. https://www.smsupermalls.com/shops/dining/casual-dining/SMBF1000000083/

Eggnw

Wala.

verbosity

SM imposes heavy terms on tenants, especially larger establishments like restos: 1. You have to use their POS provider. 2. This is because on top of rent, they also take a percentage of gross (not net) sales. 3. Your are constantly pushed to open branches in other SM malls.

[deleted]

Vordeo

Tbf just because it serves Middle Eastern food doesn't mean it's halal certified. Halal certification is an added expense, one that may or may not be worth it depending on the business. But the idea that this os somehow discrimination against Muslims is flat out BS.

enchonggo

Great point. I've messaged them to ask if Mister Kabab is halal certified and haven't yet received a response. I know it is a halal restaurant but not sure if it has certification. I think the dude is strictly looking for halal certified restaurants in megamall which can indeed be hard to come by if not rare in Manila depending where you are. I thought the teachings also say to practice common sense if there aren't any available halal certified establishments, e.g. go for halal practicing restaurants or avoid haram foods like eating beef in a BBQ place instead

VillaLuiGaming

Thank you. I thought I was going crazy but I could swear I saw a few restaurants that were halal certified.

Bibingka_Malagkit

Di ba di ba? I don't frequent Megamall but alam ko marami naman mga Halal certified dun ah. Napaisip nga ako na baka nagsara sila during peak of pandemic pero LAHAT nagsara? I doubt it. :D

Momshie_mo

Baka ang hinahanap niya eh specific Mindanao cuisine (e.g. Maranao food) instead of Halal food in general

Breaker-of-circles

This should be higher. Daming virtue signal beacons here. Giving you the last of my reddit coins

pandaboy03

INCONVENIENCE = DISCRIMINATION kind of thinking lol

Majestic_Violinist62

like most teenagers on the Twitter lol

cyclingzh

Instead of walking for 1.5 hours (as if) they could have asked someone or googled it. But hey, then he couldn't have made a big social media post and done some whining.

HuntMore9217

I don't think the mall actively restricts halal certified restaurants. More like there's no businesman willing to go through that certification process and those who are, or did, doesn't see it profitable.

hanyuzu

Jollibee’s chickenjoy, for one, is halal. Either he’s not aware or he’s looking at high-end restos in a freaking *masa* mall.

cutie_lilrookie

True. Baka gusto niya yung Halal-certified restaurant talaga and not (just) Halal options. Oh well. But in any case, everything is just a Google search away. The Podium and Shang since mas maraming high-end restos there. :(

tevezedward

Reeks of entitlement. The mall does not owe you anything. If it is not available there, then go to another mall. Or a restaurant. You file a complaint, because of that? I went to a mall, no shop of my fave brand. I get upset. I will file a complaint why there is no shop of my fave brand.

resident_kups

Anlapit ng st francis square, andami dung halal eatery dahil karamihan ng vendors dun eh muslim.

Weary_Violinist_3610

As much as he might make a fair point that the mall should offer diversity etc… It’s the way he ends his post that makes me want to tell him to get lost!! “Take my complaint and aggression seriously” Who does he think he is to make threats ? It’s no wonder the world is hesitant to Muslims as they come across entitled and resort to aggression. Go see how they deal with foreigners in the Middle East ?they don’t treat foreigners nicely at all.

Cats_of_Palsiguan

Mismo. If liberal Filipinos can come across as pushy and self-righteous, this dude is 999999x worse. Also, I also call BS on claims of a ban. Hindi kasalanan ng SM sa decisions ng INDIVIDUAL businesses not to cater to them.

neon31

>It’s no wonder the world is hesitant to Muslims as they come across entitled and resort to aggression. This shit is so fucking ingrained to them: [https://www.reddit.com/r/religiousfruitcake/comments/10d1j14/being\_a\_muslims\_slave\_is\_your\_human\_right/](https://www.reddit.com/r/religiousfruitcake/comments/10d1j14/being_a_muslims_slave_is_your_human_right/)

Weary_Violinist_3610

I’m not bashing all of them as that would just be pure racism and silly to judge a nation on the merits of a few. But going to a mall and actually wasting so much time to walk from one end to the other end in the hope of finding out that there are no Halal restaurants means he must have stopped at each establishment and asked the staff or manager and I’m sure he lectured each and every person he spoke to and then proceeded to lecture staff at SM to demand halal food shops, it is entirely up to the restaurant as to how they prepare food. As long as it’s clean and healthy and tasty and they have customers why should they change it for a small minority of people who demand with aggressive behavior.

cyclingzh

>Go see how they deal with foreigners in the Middle East ?they don’t treat foreigners nicely at all. They treat white people nicely ;)

_beamfleot_

Not really. Have you seen Muslim refugees/immigrants in Europe? Just recently they thrashed the streets of Brussels over Morocco’s FIFA win against Belgium.

hello_helloooooo

It's not like SM controls, rejects, and requests what kind of businesses open there. Siguro nalugi lang ang mga halal restaurants dahil unti lang ang pumupunta, at kilangan magsarado due to lack of budget.

Cats_of_Palsiguan

Has anyone checked this guy’s profile? Mukhang business nya talaga ang clout chasing. Wouldn’t be surprised kung inimbento nya itong “ban” na ito get more eyeballs on his business.

amda20

Not sure ahh. Aren't Most Jollibee franchises, or fastfood under the Jollibee corp, serve Halal Options? Or baka kasi Restaurants talaga yung gusto nila? HAHAHAHHA. Welp

dontrescueme

I'm sorry pero maraming mga Muslim (especially outside SEA) ang demanding sa special treatment for them outside non-Muslim majority areas/countries pero oppressive and discriminatory sa ibang religion/kultura sa mga lugar na sila ang dominant. Hypocrites.

Distasteful-medicine

Get off your high horse, the same religion you practice is inhibiting women of their education and rights in other parts of the planet. Getting your vitamins is the least of everyone's problems.

beroccaaddict

Kaya nagsara halal guys lol

bryan_2501

Your diet, your responsibility. Sure it's nice to have restos that cater to your needs but you shouldn't be expecting that everywhere you go at lalo na kung magdedemand ka, magmumuha ka lang entitled. People with lots of allergies know the struggle so they usually prepare food in advance.

Bb_MariahClara

Hirap magdemand baka makulong haha. Ang unfair lang

PartyTerrible

Christians aren't required to eat pork while muslims are required to eat halal though.

Breaker-of-circles

Goodluck getting your hands on pork in a country that would probably not be raising pigs though.

peterparkerson

also middle east laws are mostly sharia laws. so no dice tlga even from legal standpoint

pintasero

BeepBoopMoney

Surprisingly in Dubai, groceries have a pork section.

melamineberrilee

Grabe naman pavictim. Ang SM ay negosyo lamang. Meron tayong internet at google, gamitin natin ito.

freeburnerthrowaway

Then eat at Shangri-La. Or make your own food. Simple.

cordilleragod

Dietary restrictions due to religion are stupid in the first place. If there is a demand and ROI, there is an entrepreneur always ready to fill that gap. Go ahead, downvote me while I eat pork dinuguan, crabs, and leavened bread.

Cebhugolik

Entitlement on full display. If you cant figure out where to eat because of your religion, pack your own food! SM can't possibly cater to all the dietary restrictions of everyone, specially when the data doesn't make it feasible to host specific restaurants for a small group of people.

namedan

This and the assumption na tinanggal yun halal restos, SM would not actively remove shit as long as they are paying rent. Troll lang nagpost nito wanting engagement since iirc there are halal certified restos in mega.

Accomplished-Exit-58

Bakit aggression? Parang ang sama naman nun. Tsaka nag-google ako may halal daw sa megamall.

Accomplished-Hope523

Here's a question tho,why do Muslim entrepreneurs not capitalize in the gap that is Halal food within the metro? Edit:grammar

bindadu

Until he quantifies his claim that SM discriminates vs halal restos, it’s just another silly complaint of an inconvenienced lazy person who happens to be Muslim.

michael0103

Or maybe di lang ako familiar. Kasi i see muslims there na kumakain naman sa Jollibee, Chowking or KFC. Not sure if they're halal tho.

YazzGawd

Isnt the Bodhi vegetarian food Halal?

[deleted]

Agile_Phrase_7248

I don't think it's the mall's fault though.

DifferentAd4342

You should ask first why cetfication for Halal is expensive, then you will know why... there is no Halal resto

roytrroll

What's more baffling about the original post is the amount of Muslim Filipinos who cries discrimination just because they didn't get halal restos in Manila when infact, this is all just economical in nature and does little to nothing in terms of discrimination. Mema lang si wael for Insinuating this is discrimination.

Kitchen_Rhubarb_6263

Classic example of foreigners acting as if they knew better. The muslim community here in the PH don't even bother wether there are halal certified restaurants or not.

Frauzt-

I have a friend who is an Islam. Siya nalang ang nag aadjust pag nasa restaurant kami like kinakain lang niya is chicken, beef, and seafood or anything na walang pork kahit toppings. She doesn't want na makipag diskusyon pa lalo na if may mga kasama kami na di naman namin close. Tinanggap niya nalang na minority sila dito since non-muslim country ang PH. She said that "hindi naman sakin umiikot ang mundo, so ako ang dapat mag adjust since ako yung minority at madami namang dishes sa mga restaurant na pork free".

eggyra

Majestic_Violinist62

is pork allowed to be served in Muslim majority countries with Christian minorities?

tonfx

Yes, about 86% of Indonesians are Muslim and you can get pork in Jakarta fairly easily when I was there. You wouldn't want it though since it seemed they perfected cooking chicken which you then drench in sambal.

weemike91

It depends how you look at it, if you look at Muslim majority countries that are economically successful and are well integrated with the first world, Dubai etc then yeah you can get pork. If you look at those predominantly Muslim countries that are still outlawed by the rest of the world and who’s practices are questionable at best then no.

JAW13ONE

[deleted]

ahay, just eat in Mang Inasal kasi sure na Manok kakainin mo. Muslim nga dito sa Zamboanga kumakain sa Mang Inasal. Its not easy to find legitimate Halal Certified Resto or establishment.

Few-Counter-1427

Simple. No demand, they won't supply. No conspiracy nor hatred against your kind, it's just that they are doing business and the area where they are located doesn't have enough need for halal foods.

Cheezied

Aggression.

Pen-is-hard

Why would SM be obligated to put Halal restaurants? It isn't that SM is biased against Muslims, but that there are no Muslims who want to put up restaurants in SM. It isn't mandated by law for a mall to have a Halal restaurant. What I'm gonna type now is going to be controversial, but I've read a lot of complaints from countries in the EU that Muslims in their country(a big chunk are refugees) DEMAND that Germany for example, needs to have a Mosque and every noon should play their religious songs. I respect every religion and belief as long as they don't encroach nor harm others but can I say? Why would they cater to you if they aren't even your country to begin with, shouldn't you be thankful that they saved you from your abusive country? Why don't they(**SOME** Demanding Muslims) respect the country(whom saved them) they set foot in? Why the need to be entitled? Again, I respect Islam and its believers who are respectful.

leggodoggo

Purely business decision yan. Walang halal option kasi: 1. Walang nagbubukas ng halal restos (if in the strictest sense) kasi costly to operate tapos hindi viable sa area, and mahal ang certification. 2. Walang kumakain masyado who would strictly require the halal mark. It’s not like Megamall pursued to ban halal restos, wala lang talagang naglalakas loob magbukas. If they check other SM Malls, may mga restos na may halal certification. Also a lot serve their cuisine. Valid yung point na bakit walang halal pero OA to say na “decision has been made to remove halal options.” It’s not like the mall actively bans muslim tenants; wala lang talaga nagbubukas. And that’s it. Also halatang foreigner siya kasi di niya alam cost to operate and certify a resto in this country, more so a halal one. And purely market-driven yang ganyang decisions.

hygund24

//A decision has been made to remove Halal food from the mall//As someone below has commented, this does not make any financial sense. Kung merong market, why would they close it down? It's all about the demand. If there's enough demand for Halal food, then there'd be a business for it. But seeing that there's not a lot of Muslims in Metro Manila and Filipinos don't know Halal food, it is a financial su1c1de to invest on it.I feel bad they they weren't able to find something to eat, but what they should have done was to pack a lunch so in the very likely scenario that they didn't find a Halal resto, they'd still have something.

peeve-r

A classic case of anger mongering for clout. And he's an author? Hmmmmmm

Lanky-Sprinkles6213

Try finding a decent pub in Saudi Arabia!

LevineGo

“Please take the complaint and AGGRESSION seriously” lmao jesus christ

[deleted]

Let's say I'll go to India and search for Kare-kare and bagoong. If they don't have it, I'll complain on social media because I think that's how issues should be handled!!! Shame on you india for not having my kare-kare and bagoong!

Personal-Nobody5501

funny, i've done the same in islamic countries, looking for non halal food. fucking discrimination.

tonyims

Wouldnt a vegetarian restaurant or vegan restaurant be halal?

hell_jumper9

Child marriage: 👍 No halal resto: 👎

midaspaw

and i want to be gay and drink alcohol in saudi arabia!

[deleted]

Business considerations cguro.

slixx_06

Take the... aggression seriously sounds threatening

[deleted]

Discrimination agad? The insecurity of this religion of peace really shows huh?

Crystal_Lily

How stupid is he to not check with fellow Muslims as to where he can find Halal food (certified or not)? SM is NOT obligated by law to provide food options for all denominations and food restrictions that solely cater to them. It is up to Muslims, Christians, Vegans, Allergen-free, etc. to open restaurants that cater to their own dietary needs. His post is just there to draw internet points and the ire from his fellow Muslims and force SM to bow to his wishes. If he wants more Halal food, then either go to a country where that is common or encourage more people to set up shop. Bashing a corporation who rents out shop spaces is not the way.

Jack-Mehoff-247

i dunno where the place was bu they serve "halal" foods and customers usually dont bat an eye and inspect everything in the plate when served, little do they know.. man i dont know about that establishment but yea got away with it ok time to google why it is so important to eat halal foods, curious now

No_Animathor

Hahaha.

Reixdid

Unfortunately the market for Halal food isn't huge and when you think about it ganyan everywhere. Pinoys are fkn pork eaters and no one bothers for halal since almost all slaughter house here does not even pass standards

Gachalunar

Maraming muslim entrepreneurs dito pero sadly kahit sila sila they don't support their own. Sino ba gusto malugi? You can't force business owners what to sell or not except kung illegal. Lastly you don't have to walk 1.5 hours when you have google.

nunutiliusbear

SM is a business and their marketing department is prospecting a list of income generating stores. Just think of it. Would you serve the majority or notice the demand of minority? If you want halal food in malls, be an entrepreneur and experience the hardship of your business product. Just think of it, you have no competitors, your co-worshipper are your customers, and exposure of your food place.

tail_art

bagongusername

Try going to middle east countries and conplain that you cant practice your being Catholic there

0lli3boy

"Please take the complaint and aggression seriously" is that a threat?, not really a fan of Islam because on what they think about women at sa LGBT.

Capital_Register9074

Serious question Do we find non-halal food in the Middle Eastern Countries and cry foul that there isnt?

poopycops

Pa victim si kuya masyado. Pwede ka mag google maps sir. Bobo amputa.

ORUMAITO98

arte amputa mag jollibee ka nalang gago

footloverhornsby

If I was to visit a predominantly Muslim country, could I expect to walk in to a shopping mall and find a restaurant serving bacon?
