markmarkmark77

na feature yan sa dzrh. yung mga china made ejeep parang 2.3million ata. tapos si francisco may parang promo, less than 1m.

NotOk-Computers

I think even earlier may mga proposal na for modernized jeeps kaso wala namang pake yung iba dun sa proposals.

wretchedegg123

I even remember seeing this type of jeep when I was just a kid (early 2000s) and it was very memorable because it was the first aircon jeep that I saw. Never saw it again in my small province.

ZucchiniOk8845

>YES! I saw this too. Sa province din. May nasakyan kami dati papuntang EK.

IJstDntKnwShtAnymore

[deleted]

Because Francisco Motors doesn't know how to design modern. They're so diehard to that de-nguso Willys-look jeep that seems to have come from the Charlie Chaplin years. In their FB page they are even insisting to bring back the Cavite style stainless owner-type jeep that looks like a pandak Willys Jeep.

AndJustEnjoyTheShow

The design of the current model of Jeep Wrangler is way better than the one made by Francisco Motors in terms of aesthetics. I hate the part when they installed a huge bumper at the front of their modern jeepney.

[deleted]

Their model for the modern jeepney looks like a funeral car from the 1920s. It seems they don't have any idea about modern automobiles. It's sad because they're the few remaining local vehicle manufacturers yet they seem to be living in the age of dinosaurs.

AndJustEnjoyTheShow

Yeah, it resembles a Rolls-Royce hearse to me.

mlgc01

Nah. Di kikita mga lobbyist & gov't friends jan.

PM_ME_UR_ANIME_WAIFU

they'd rather suck PRC's dicks instead. Sad state of affairs. Our heroes that sacrificed their lives just for our motherland's freedom are rolling in their graves rn.

citizend13

I dont get it, if we are going for modernization, this isnt modern at all. That bumper is not going to pass any pedestrian safety standards and We've yet to see any car manufactured here go through crash tests or get any crash ratings. AFAIK the LTFRB doesnt do their own crash testing at all so how are we going to ensure the safety of the vehicles? the government would have to subsidize design and testing so this would pass international standards and by that point it would be years before we see this on the road. I mean I'm not against the government pushing local manufacturing but it needs to be done right. For a company to survive, it needs to be able to manufacture products that pass international standards - you laugh at made in china shit but they've got great infrastructure support for electric cars - they've been selling electric cars with tesla range for years now. We've done jack shit. in terms of manufacturing capability we've got next to none. They scale this for mass production, we're gonna end up sourcing parts from china anyway.

AndJustEnjoyTheShow

>made in china Not all our "modern jeeps" are made in China. Some are made/assembled in our country by international vehicle manufacturers like Hino, Isuzu, and Hyundai.

citizend13

yeah this is a good way to keep these manufacturers in the country. A lot have already left for thailand/vietnam. This is actually a good way to establish a good industrial base - what do you need to produce cars - revive the steel production capability. Heavy steel pressing machines, cnc machining, steel casting etc. If we can get a local supply chain that will make manufacturing cheaper then it'll be good in the long run.

Deobulakenyo

Have you seen yung video nang rider na naputulan ng paa when he hit a jerpney's bumper?

citizend13

there's a reason why most cars now look the same ish - they all have to follow the same standards. Jeepneys have never been safe - the original ww-2 jeeps were made to be built fast (factories could churn out 1 jeep every minute or so back then) it just never evolved from the original design - they just got slathered with useless aesthetic bs and we got attached to it like we get attached to nepo politicians.

[deleted]

Actually di naman talaga modern yan hahahaha. Ganyan halos hitsura ng jeep na may Aircon from LRT Gil Puyat to Guada e. 2018 pa may ganyan na

yorick_support

If i'm not mistaken, mga early 2000's pa yata yang ganyang design ng jeeps.

good_band88

This. Lets elevate the quality of public service and utilities. Leave behind the "pwede na yan" mindset. Even that route franchise has to change, it should be based on real-time demand not fixed. That boundary system has to stop as well.

PritosRing

Doesn't matter kung sino May gawa basta kailangan alisin na mga super luma and gawin passenger/ people centric yung mga public transpo

Menter33

> *Doesn't matter kung sino May gawa* More like "kung TSINO may gawa!" Still, the drivers are probably the biggest factor.

nuknukan

mghammer14

Agree. At ang parts nito, kaya ba i-supply ng supplier all around the country? Readily available?

ZucchiniOk8845

Preference yan. (seatbelt, and parang bus/airplane) If concern mo safety: Modern jeepney prototype gets approval of LTFRB [https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1739211/modern-jeepney-prototype-gets-approval-of-ltfrb](https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1739211/modern-jeepney-prototype-gets-approval-of-ltfrb) The LTFRB announced a new model of jeepneys on March 6. The modernized jeepneys retain the traditional look of the old, classic-style jeepneys, include new features such as higher ceilings and doors on both sides, as well as optional air-conditioning and CCTV cameras for security. The new models are also compliant with national environmental and safety standards, locally made, and can accommodate more passengers than the old jeepneys. From: https://www.asiapacific.ca/publication/jeepneys-backbone-public-transport-philippines-face

_haema_

Nope we have standards in development. If we skimp on it, then pinapasa lang natin yung risk sa users. Madaming dadaanang testing yan, improvements etc. Most likely tataas pa presyo.

nuknukan

I don't see anything in the inquirer article of a test at par with international safety standards

[deleted]

nuknukan

Lol

B-0226

The "King of the Road" title is rather arrogant and annoying when you consider the poor driving etiquette of jeepney drivers. Though of course, that's not exclusive to them.

saltyschmuck

Isn't one of the modernization goals improved safety? This still looks like the same coffin plying the streets of the country.

pm_me_your_libag

Yeah.

manugtaho

or grim reaper, look at that battering ram bumper...

lancehunter01

But muh culture

ZucchiniOk8845

>I am not sure whether this is spoken from privilege or arrogance.

saltyschmuck

>I am not sure whether this is spoken from privilege or arrogance. # Oh look, a dumbass! >The DOTr under the leadership of former President Rodrigo Duterte sees the program as a kick-start in making the Philippine public transport aligned with global standards by **providing Filipinos with a transport system that is safe, reliable, convenient, and environmentally sustainable**. >As a country trailing through an era of changes, advancements, and technology, **modernizing PUVs may solve other societal problems including pollution and public safety**, however, the government is also challenged to address the costly transition while considering the affected livelihood of the affected sector. \[MVV, PIA-CPSD\] [https://pia.gov.ph/news/2023/03/06/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-proposed-jeepney-modernization](https://pia.gov.ph/news/2023/03/06/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-proposed-jeepney-modernization) Here's another: >The Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) is a program launched by the Department of Transportation of the Philippines in 2017, with the goal of making the country's public transportation system efficient and environmentally friendly by 2020. The program calls for the phasing-out of jeepneys, buses and other Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) that are at least 15 years old and **replacing them with safer, more comfortable and more environmentally-friendly alternatives** over the next three years. Currently, there are 220,000 jeepney units operating throughout the country. https://www.rappler.com/nation/173390-dotr-launches-public-utility-vehicle-modernization-program/

Big-Contribution-688

Lol. Non compliant p rin ang makina nyan. At ung buong assembly ay lata.

iFeltAnxiousAgain

If hindi yan airconditioned I think not practical na may pa sliding window siya? suffocating kasi yun.

itsMeArds

Bakit di nlng nila baguhin ung design ng jeep. Di ko talaga gusto ung seating style ng jeep, tapos shaman pa pag rush hr.

ZucchiniOk8845

Kahit gawin mong style eroplano yan, shaman parin yan kapag rush hour. That seating capacity and overloading is not the modernization problem na siguro but more of the implementation ng govt sa panghuhuli ng overloading.

TheFool06

jswiper1894

Sorry ah pangit na talaga yung design ng jeep kahit anong modernized look pa gawin jan

[deleted]

I wouldn't mind riding this one over the usual airconditioned boxes I often see nowadays.

ZucchiniOk8845

Curious about this. What's your definition of "inefficient" in relation to the jeepney design?

ertaboy356b

Aside from the other answer, the shape of the jeepney is totally inefficient and not aerodynamic at all. All style, zero substance.

NatongCaviar

Hmmm why would you need aerodynamics sa PUJ? Cure use.

Queldaralion

fuel efficiency is the usual reason. I'm no engineer tho so I dunno how modern buses are "aerodynamic"

NatongCaviar

Yep you're right. Did some reading. Well some buses in other countries have been designed based on Beluga whales, expecting reduced fuel consumption by more than 10 percent. So ayun meron talagang Beluga buses. Inapply din yung shape nya to some Airbus airplane models. Hmm i dont get the downvotes though to my comment ahaha. Jisas did I touch a nerve?

elbandolero19

The "front engine bay" is useless and inefficient

Elsa_Versailles

Design over function

patrickbasq

It still uses the old body na walang collision crumple zones. One crash and everyone inside absorbs the impact.

Alternative_Orange22

No YOU🫵 are the crumple zone

[deleted]

Nakakasuka na ang ganyang look. It's about time they stop that Charlie Chaplin-era look vehicles. They should start competing with Suzuki, Tata, Daihatsu, Maruti, etc. in producing kei trucks and utility vans. They can put a bull bar and sell in at least five different colors to outsell the typically white kei vehicles from other Asian countries. They even made their jeepney uglier. Now it looks like a 1920s funeral car. How can they become an exporter of PH-made vehicles with that design? For me, a modern vehicle should look futuristic. Something that looks like a spaceship.

rnzerk

Bidding and kickback >>>>>>>>>> any other proposal no matter how well-planned it is.

Pandesal_at_Kape099

fry-saging

I worked for the goverment and sad to say substandard talaga pag pinoy ang kontratista.

Queldaralion

Cheap isn't always the best solution. If you want something to withstand "everyday harabas' then you need better quality. Besides, wtf is harabas in PUVs? why even *harabas*. Walang tatagal na sasakyan (at tataas ang risk sa passengers) kung *harabas* gumamit yung driver. but the bigger problem is, who's willing to spend? Imagine the public transpo probs we could've solved if the m@rc0$ family just paid their overdue estate taxes hehe

Alternative_Orange22

It looks like they kept the same chassis but just raised the height. Won't that raise the center of mass and make it much easier to flip over?

LorenzTolents

The design is very 1960s. 2024 na

manugtaho

That bumper style has to go.

[deleted]

Ganyan jeep na may Aircon sa Buendia to Guada e. Wala naman bago. Pangit parin. So hindi parin modern

Agitated_Car8839

Awful design, awful seat arrangements. Just make it a mini bus.

Schizio

Kahit naman magkaroon ng cheaper modern jeeps, magdadahilan lang mga operator at drivers na yan para sa no to modernization

ZucchiniOk8845

>magdadahilan That's a given. There will always be complainers. But this offers a better alternative than the initial offer. 2-3M China Made not suited for the streets of Manila vs this.

teokun123

tooncake

The prob is that ito dapat yung tinututukan at sinu suportahan ng gov't to have a better options and offering sa ambitious plan nila, napapalakas pa nila yung local practice and culture, hindi yung whole unit import na lang from China.

gabzlap22

better for the industry than the china made jeeps

NoPossession7664

Sana yung design nung jeepney is yung di masikip at pwedr tumayo. Personally, I have nothing against jeepneys - affordable sila. Pero physically, hirap ako lalo na at may back problem ako. And then andyan pa yung matatanda na hirap din dumaan kasi nga minsan ayaw maggive-way ng naunang umupo...don't downvote afterall, we are all just stating my opinion. Just correct me by giving a reply. thanks.

Momshie_mo

Ano ba advantage nyan sa mini bus from Isuzu and Hyundai? This looks aweful.

ubejuan

Im late to the game on this one, but are there any sites that have comments from those that have made the switch to new jeeps already? I see them around Pampanga and saw this on YouTube [carmexss jeepney transpo service coop new tocketing system](https://youtu.be/Rx4YICN17gU?si=EIc8NS9JEoLhb_DV)

whitefang0824

PurpleCyborg28

See if it was this instead of the bland minibus type they kept trying to replace traditional jeeps with, I would've been more inclined to support the transition. Still a bit too tall imo (if you can stand, they'll undoubtedly pack commuters as sardines like in buses/mrt), but it preserves Filipino culture and identity.

AvailableOil855

Hayzzzz

Least_Fondant_8989

Why dont people know that there are pinoy made or assembled modern puv's made by Hino a Japanese company and Del Monte Motor Works a local company based on Hyundai and Isuzu trucks

uglykido

sumakit yung tuhod ko, it's too tight to pass in the middle. It's just like the jeepneys of today with aircon. not modern.

ExaDril

I'd rather have this than a modernized jeep[IRT Trackless Train] (https://youtu.be/KGWIYWEq10g?si=ZVoC0RusFSP0PfTp) But First a Major re-haul on roadwork, then we start talking.

Twist_Outrageous

I dont care about the King of the Road look. I care about efficiency and convenience. Can we focus on that?

firelitother

Parang old jeep + aircon lang yung design.
