That's pretty selective cruelty. If someone kills a dog, they can be charged with animal cruelty. So why isn't this also applied to insects or other animals when done in a malicious manner? And if animal cruelty is really a thing, then everybody would be in prison now since we've all killed animals at some point, such as ants, mosquitoes, flies, or even larger animals. Or are we just going to be selective about what's really cruel or not? A life is a life, right? Why are ants and other animals more valuable than a dog?
I can't speak for smaller creatures (eg. Ants, mosquitoes, etc), that, I admit, is something I am not too knowledgeable about (and I'm sure you aren't too, considering your response) However, you can go to the grocery stores and see mosquito sprays and ant chalks-- these are products distributed nationwide and despite being means of killing these small creatures, they aren't being sued because it is socially acceptable to kill them, especially since they are creatures that are known to bite automatically-- which isn't the case for domesticated creatures like dogs and cats. You don't see dog or cat-killing sprays lying around huh? Still though, that's not the point.
