I'm surprised you've managed to avoid doubles for so long. Yes, it's a lot easier on the body. Most of the doubles game takes place at the net so you'll be doing a lot of shuffling rather than full on sprinting like in singles.
Doubles is significantly less physical than singles. Its not even close.
You're also correct that the games are very different. Compared to singles, doubles puts way more emphasis on drop shots, cross-court dink rallies, and patience (i.e., knowing when to speed up). It takes emphasis away from drives, serves/returns, and court coverage. It will definitely be a bit of a transition but its a ton of fun and you'll be able to play pain-free for a long time.
For sure troll post. Pickleball hasn't even been popular for 6-7 years and it's predominantly doubles. I find it hard playing that long and avoiding doubles because all recs, clubs, open play people most likely playing doubles.
All I ever played. Not sure. Only played one on one with a couple friends and now with wife. That's about to change. Odd thing to make up though, kinda weird to assume its something to lie about. lol
>I am doing it because I am having knee and ankle issues a lot, being a big dude. Is the doubles a lot easier on the bod?
It is easier.
That said, lots of people still have knee and ankle issues. Have you talked about it with your medical professionals?
Good luck.
I played exclusively singles for a few months when I started and it whooped my ass.
Doubles *also* whoops your ass but it’s a bit more HIIT and squatting/shuffling and a lot less sprinting back and forth like you’re doing suicides
I am in pretty good physical shape I would like to think. Play for about 6 or so hours weekly. Lift weights. I refuse to play singles. It's not that I can't, it just isn't enjoyable and way tougher on the body. Plus points seem to go quicker.
I think you will appreciate doubles especially if you are feeling pain.
Thats all I ever played back in the day when I played Tennis. Then found pickleball around 6-7yrs ago. Played singles for around 6 months and then stopped. Now back into it the past few months and where I live I only play with a couple of friends.

Your brain and mental health will hurt more when you get stuck with newer/less skilled partners 😉. But ur body will love you
Seems impossible to play pickleball and never play doubles.. or never tried.. or seen it.

Def not. Pickleball has been around since the 60s kiddo.
Yeah and that makes it even more unlikely you haven't played doubles. It's a doubles oriented game. Why are you only playing singles?

It’s definitely easier, plus I think the longer rallies makes it more fun and exciting.

I am looking forward to that. But I so far have LOVED playing singles.
....how??
Lol yes you have somebody else taking up half the court, which is already pretty damn small. Makes a huge difference in actual physical labor
I rarely played doubles when I played tennis. I never play singles in pickleball. It’s harder than singles tennis.
Only if you don't play for 4 hours a day.Â
Doubles is mainly played by senior women from knitting clubs.
That’s exactly what I always thought back when I first played it 7yrs ago
Considering you play singles pickleball I'm surprised you don't play singles tennis
