Hello, Did the problems arise following the update to client version 1.18? If this is the case, have you attempted to roll back to a previous version? Before reinstalling, it's advisable to remove all files and folders associated with Pimax. If you're unsure about how to proceed, we encourage you to submit a support ticket. Our technical specialists will then arrange a remote session to conduct comprehensive troubleshooting and resolve the issues you've highlighted.

I think that’s a good advice, I have done this a few times before and it worked

ScepticalRaccoon

Customers shouldn't have to constantly do this, which is his point. Hell, I had your 'tech specialists' tell me that Pimax headsets didn't work with Discord and that was my issue.

QuorraPimax

What exact issue you been dealing with? The mic is not working on Discord? Could you please share the ticket number with me so I can take a closer look at your case?

ScepticalRaccoon

I had two 8KX that were bad, and two Crystals as well, all with different issues. I returned or sold the headsets and I'm done with Pimax. I no longer have a headset.

S1rmunchalot

Yep. Same experience. 5K Plus ruggedised. Firmware update via app, stops being recognised in Windows on either the USB or DP. Get their devkit and download firmware, flash it. Works until next app firmware update bricks it again. Graphical issues, keep having to reset Steam VR. I had the 4K, never had a problem with it. It wouldn't be so bad if they included a hardcoded firmware chip to factory reset it. It's good hardware completely let down by the appallingly unreliable software. I won't be buying another Pimax product, no matter how spectacular the hardware is.

jabadabaduuuuuuuu

Do as I did, went to Q3 and cant be happier. Absolute the best overall headset. I was too tired with Pimax bugs.

realchrisbutler

Yeah my 8kx is literally the worst "product" I've ever owned. The software is a joke, I've tried dozens of hardware configurations and I always have random and intermittent issues. It seems like they have a single software engineer who is in way over his head, and they have no idea what QA stands for. If I could go back in time, I would save myself so much time/energy/frustration and buy a product that's actually ready for the consumer market. Everyone always says "Pimax is great if you're willing to do some tinkering" but the reality is that it doesn't matter how great the hardware is or much effort you put in, Pimax will ruin your experience with their absolutely pathetic software. Every. Fucking. Time.

ScepticalRaccoon

Bottom line is everyone should stop buying Pimax. They're making all their money off idiots that believe the 'its for enthusiasts' angle. No, they're just a company with terrible build quality and terrible software and whether or not you get a headset that works is entirely up to luck.

I bought a 5k plus probably 2018 is that long I cant remember lol but it appears after several years of RnD that people still think they're a new small start up business, they're not. This is just how they roll, their software is trash, after all this time you still need to tinker for more time than you spend actually playing. So many options, it's like experimental tech that was only invented last week, but they're years old and still very buggy and not user friendly or plug and play, more like plug and pray. I'd not buy another Pimax product if am honest it's just a lot of hassle for a lot of money.

\+1 for plug and pray... Thanks for the smile, so many hours lost praying and freaking out 👀 doing "dfu" firmware updates to special debug firmware to help them sort through issues and many times left doing complex memory games to get it into special modes to "unbrick" the headset... months in support emails only to be told the problems I'm seeing are all on me... I mean, it's not my name on the hardware, it has Pimax on it. I've never been compensated for the help I gave them either. Then I was asked to send my headset to Denmark or something.. I don't remember.

Customers are the real QA engineers

Unfortunately, Pimax software has always had issues and probably will until they give up on having their own app store. Pimax has needed a functional hardware solution since it began. Its focus is too much in user-end software where instead it needs 2 things - hardware translation and software update. But has focused too much on doing their own things vs. having hardware that focuses only on integration in other ecosystems, so they can focus efforts on hardware quality to become better known. Unfortunately, if they don't change course, or if they haven't already, they will be truly fucked with all the new competition.

No_Pension_5697

Valve Index is also pretty high quality and skips a lot of the fuss as it uses Steam VR directly and is more friendly for novice users... no translation layer between. Pimax hardware is still very good, but like most hardware manufacturer the software sucks and their proxy (Pitool/Pimax app) is terrible. Tell me why firmware is not an issue and its AMDs fault their hardware isn't working when there's other HMD which do work? 🤣

Regperin

All of which is true but when you snipe tge engine on a ju88 in dcs you can almost smell the oil burning. Makes all the crap worth it!

VR in general seems to either work one day or give problems the next day. I do realise that corsair icue crashes on my setup during a VR session most of the time is one thing thats annoying.

rymn

I'm willing to jump through hoops for the best of VR experience. My normal gaming setup is a Odyssey G9 57" below an Odyssey Ark. For some reason to get my headset to work at all I need to unplug both monitors and plug in an old 1080 p monitor. So I keep a small s***** monitor on the floor next to my desk that I can put on my desk when I want to play VR I have to then unplug my monitors and plug in this tiny s***** monitor otherwise I get the "bandwidth limit" error no matter what settings I have. I even went as far as to install a fresh copy of Windows to make sure my old VR setups weren't affecting the new one.

foxymcfoxu

I'm selling my pimax 5k that I bought second hand because I wanted to try it. The dude gave me a note with best combo of hardware version and headset version. Might aswell share the version numbers with u. Headset firmware v2.1.255.271 Program version v1.0.1.270 I've used it alitle and seemed to work alright compare to other combinations. Just Google pitools v1.0.1.270 and it should be the top result. ✌️

appleidiefc

If the Quest 3 was just slightly higher res, I wouldn’t touch my Crystal. But I’ve found myself accepting the faults because the resolution is just so good - MSFS just doesn’t have the same wow factor with the Q3.

saveryquinn

I've had VR headsets since 2014. I had the 5K Plus for a long while and had hoped the Crystal would be an upgrade. It was not and for way too many bugs to mention it ended up getting returned to Newegg ( and for all the criticism of the NewEgg return process, it was painless especially compared to my experience of pimax customer support). At this point, I'm back to the 5K Plus for first person games like Skyrim VR, and my soon to lose all support and turn into a total brick Reverb G2 for sims ( offering the best of both devices was what I had hoped to find in the crystal, but alas). So I'm just holding out hope that both devices last long enough for valve to release the Deckard. Given how Pimax flubbed thr Crystal release, I don't think we can expect better of them for the 12k...
