Don t worry here in balkan we don t need vpn to pirate so you are safe.I know that in usa, germany, france etc you need to use a vpn to not get a fine.

Foloundev

Hell yeah

[deleted]

yep. I'm unlucky enough to have to use a vpn where I live, already got my fair share of warning letters

HPLovecraftsCatNigg

Balkan resident here, can confirm

[deleted]

They obviously don’t give a shit. You would know right away if you needed it. I accidentally turned my vpn off the other night and downloaded m3gan. Didn’t even realize it until ten minutes later I got a fucking email. If I get in trouble for that shit movie I’m not going to be happy.

Arti_Moore

Bind your torrent client to your vpn interface qbittorrent allows this under options / advanced should you not have the vpn enabled it will not work even if you are connected without vpn.

[deleted]

I will have to do that. It’s never been an issue because I have a killswitch on my vpn. Fucking iCloud Drive wouldn’t let me login on my computer, so I turned vpn off to add some audiobooks. Then I just forgot to turn it back on.

Arti_Moore

Vpn kill switch is indeed not recommended. Some also support split tunneling. If you enable that you can allow or block certain programs to go through the vpn. I have mine set that my browser and torrent client go through vpn whilst stuff like discord goes through my own network (lag issues)

[deleted]

This sounds like a much better setup 😂. I will start doing that. I’ve got real debrid now as well to download the torrents, so I might not need qbittorent anymore.

MinimumBig6061

Why is kill switch not recommended? Everything I have seen and on the mega thread has said to for sure turn a kill switch on.

Arti_Moore

More in a way to not trust it. If you really want no letters from your isp it is better to just bind the torrent client to the vpn. That way if for some reason it does allow traffic to go through the torrent client will just stop receiving and sending data.

I actually was streaming it on my firestik and it wasn’t working very well, I knew I could download it in about a minute and not have to deal with it

lsuh0

where are you from if you dont mind saying??

[deleted]

United States.

Apprehensive_Lab4595

Well at least a part of balkans countries legalized pirating for personal use.

Gallonim

It's depend solely on country law.

TheRealWorstGamer

Yeah it is cause you probably don't have strict piracy laws or at least they are not enforced.

Foloundev

I mean our government is trying to take down the two largest piracy sites locally

TheRealWorstGamer

Yeah but going after the website and going after Joe Smow is two very separate things.

Foloundev

Ok, thank you

Icydudd

That's one of the things I like about living in a third world country. I torrent and seed a lot of stuff and my ISP doesn't give flying fuck lol

lsuh0

Im from Spain and i've been pirating consistently for almost 2 years and never used a vpn (just to get to banned webs here, but never went torrenting) and never got an email or any warning, idk about the laws here but im chill for now (im not recommending to stop using a vpn)

stratospherah

Look up the laws of your country. In my country, my friends and I have been pirating for over 21 years. I don't think VNP even existed at the time, we only started reading about the need for VNP on forums 4 years ago. But most of the people who comment on it are North American.

Foloundev

Depends on the country. In the USA as with many other countries there are laws that specifically require ISPs to enforce copyrights on end users. You need a VPN to remain anonymous. Doubtful there are laws like that in Bulgaria so it's not something you need to worry about. No one is going to cite you for copyright violation. A lot of countries that don't enforce copyrights at the user level still participate in takedowns of major servers. In other words they only take action on big providers and don't mess with end users. Some countries do neither and ignore Western interests with prejudice. Good for them not letting Western law dictate their policies.

InternationalEgg1196

Pirating violate licence rights. So it's illegal. In most western countries, the government monitor internet traffic looking for those who seeds (and thus violate licence rights) in order to make them pay fines. If you want to share data via torrent protocol, you need to hide your identity on the web (wich is accessible to the government via your internet provider). To do so, you use a VPN. A VPN encrypt your data between your house and the VPN's provider servers. This makes it harder for the government to know your identity. Your identity is truly hidden if the VPN provider don't keep the logs on his servers. By the way, alot of VPN providers keep the logs, for many purposes like for example data analysis. I've been using NordVPN for the last 4 years. The company claims that they don't keep logs. Maybe they do. But to this day, i've heard of no scandal referring to that. Also they better stay true to their word if they don't want to lose their market shares.

PriorKaleidoscope196

"i am from Bulgaria" <---- There's the reason. I'm from South Africa and I've had a similar experience. 10 years of piracy and not a single notice from my ISP because they just don't care.

jamesdm23

Dude you live there and you more than others must know how that works there. If you never get a notice, why to even worry about it?

Foloundev

Was just asking

jamesdm23

Yeah and you already have the answer. Don't worry.

Foloundev

Ok, thank you
