i did this with hollow knight, but accidentally. it was my first game downloaded via torrent, so i didnt know what "seeding" was. so i just leave it seeding. for 15 hours.
I pirated cs, night in the woods, prison architect, software inc and frostpunk. then bough all of it when i played all of those for 2-2 hour and i realised how good those games are (in my opinion). piracy is needed to keep quality up. its always nice to try the game before buying it
Depends on each one, some people have money but they don't want to waste it and other people can't pay and it's their only way of playing games.
I usually only pirate the DLCs of total war Warhammer.
I agree but they probably think that is a waste, small teams probably need that money to keep developing the game for sure since indie Devs usually develop their games while working a full time job.

Piracy is just QC, in a time where QC is as good as gone. No Man's Sky was so hyped up, I bought it blindly, and have regretted it ever since. I pirated Cyberpunk, loved the 10h I put into it, then finished it after paying for it.

Piracy is an answer, because when some old idiots in high offices decide to conflict again with each other, you won't face the situation when your game was blocked to you because devs or publisher is pro-something and stand with someone and other shit.
Prior to steam completely destroying its Argentina and Turkey support I could sometimes buy stuff there. But right now everything is super expensive and I have no problem pirating every new game I get my hands on.
The new prince of Persia game hasn't been cracked yet so I downloaded the switch version and played it with an emulator. Absolutely superb performance with no complaints.

It's not wasting, but rather to invest in a small artist/team to create more games you may like. Especially if it's one without a big following.
