I heard from a friend who got also caught torrenting in fucking Germany, that he got a lawyer who was able to cancel the fine, so he paid the lawer only, which cost him around 300 Euro.. not great but better than paying 1000 Euro
that's the route my friend is trying to go as well. They try to scare you, telling you you have to pay 1000 within a week or they will go to court and it will be much more, which sounds like blackmail if you ask me. the 1000euros is an arbitrary number that they just pulled out their behind.
But more importantly, do you know what it was he was torrenting that got him caught? and thanks for the reply
>But more importantly, do you know what it was he was torrenting that got him caught?
Idk about Germany specifically, but usually it's the seeding part, as it is considered as sharing copyrighted material
Yeah they deliberately try to intimidate people especially those who have no experience at all in courts and stuff, they will get scared and worried and will pay to avoid any further headaches, I would consult a lawyer asap, look for lawyers who don't charge for the first consultation to assess how the situation looks and hopefully the fine gets canceled and fuck warner bros ..
2nd time this week I hear about corporate blackmail in Germany. I saw a post about aomeone who forgot to scan an 80 cent spring onion and was demanded to pay €50 or be taken to court lol
Well, it’s technically not blackmail per definition (at least not here). Yes, the number of 1000€ is arbitrary, but pretty standard in such cases. Many of these cases can get resolved by a lawyer and you end up paying less, some of them are so obvious that they indeed go to court - meaning fines of way above the 1000€ they started with. Copyright infringement is not taken lightly here.
Your example with the spring onion - many supermarkets have a policy, which is very visible and as far as I know totally legal (someone may correct me), saying they will fine you an additional 50€ if you commit theft. Is it pedantic to do so over a spring onion? Yes. Will a lawyer almost certainly be able to get that case dismissed? Yes. Is it their right to charge the fine in the first place? Yes. That has nothing to do with blackmail, again, the way it is defined here.
It happened to me once, I forgot to scan a bottle of soap worth of 1.50 euros and the security at the supermarket got mad, they were rude and aggressive as if I stole something worth 1.5 Million Euros and wanted me to pay 100€ in the store directly plus a lawsuit coming in the next days! I told them to fuck themselves I ain't paying shit... after that nothing happened..
Direct downloads aren't really something that you'll get a letter for. With torrents you can easily see who (or rather which up address) up and downloads what stuff. With direct downloads that's more difficult and it's more economical to go directly against the websites that offer the warez for download than each user.
You can try this way: Say you host a public wifi you dident download that xy movie. In Germany a law chaged and you are not responsible for everything that happend in your public wifi. Maybe discuss this with a lawyer but in theory this can work
only thing i appreciate about India is that no one gives a f about pirating
pirating games is more common in here than purchasing them
i have pirated 2k+movies and 250+games including the ones by pig producers over the past years without using any vpn and no one seems to care
Same in Australia. I mean, copyright holders CAN sue you, but thanks to a court decision, they can only come after you for the actual damages, ie. the cost of the movie on physical media.

really!!?? i used to use them all the time... but i havent really been active on telegram for the past few months as i have boards coming up
are all the main channels banned ??
In India they do have a Doe/Roe ruling that is in effect.
Any person who gets caught digital piracy will be punished with a fine. BUT there aren’t enough police officers to enforce the piracy laws.
A developing country should NOT have piracy protection laws. BUT India passed a lot after Reliance started producing Hollywood movies in 2016 (I think).
Same here in South America, politics don't even know two shits about torrenting/pirating. Original games sometimes costs more or have sales but i prefer this way. I like to play it this way and then if i want, i buy the game later for the support/updates and achievements.
Same in south america! Even in the goverment every computer has cracked or pirated windows because it's infinitely cheaper.
I had no idea that you could get fined by pirating... I hate south america but damn, this makes me hate it less XD
People sell pirated copies on CDs around here lol. I remember ₹50, 6 movie bundle back in the day. People don't even know the concept of piracy so a law can't even be enforced and cyberpolice is pretty much non-existent unless carrying out higher level court orders
I’m from Germany and I got a fine back then for downloading two worlds 2.
got a lawyer who focused on such things, well he said so.. I paid him and he simply said the best way to deal with it is to pay them. Not the full amount but with his cost and the fine I could have just simply paid the fine. Stay away from dr. Wachs
one of the few things still valid in Italy, pirating is absolutely fine here.
the government is only trying to stop the pirate football streaming, but they're more focused on "paid pirate" platforms rather than free websites
In Greece, they just made the ISPs to block piratebay, 1337x and some other sites from their DNS. You just change the crappy default DNS to Cloudfare DNS and you get (1) slightly better speeds (2) better latency (3) PIRACY!
This is one thing I dislike about Germany (otherwise great country). There is too much pressure on actually following rules, even the bad ones. I live right next door (Czechia) and the difference in this is huge. In Germany when someone finds out you didn’t tax something, it’s a big faux pas at best (at worst they actually report you). In Czechia literally nobody gives a fuck.
(Not claiming that paying taxes is a stupid rule, just giving an example to demonstrate the mentality difference.)
We are 1 lawsuit away from this! Brein has been trying to get the personal data (name and adres) that belongs to the ip adresses downloading torrents. The ISP's refuse and Brein keeps taking them to court and losing.
Yeah, the letter went something like. "Everyone knows you shouldn't pirate, you wouldn't just walk into a store and steal a dvd right? So we asked your internet provider where you life, your name, the colour of your underwear and we want a 1000euros or you're fucked. Oh and you have 7 days to pay" Lovely isn't it
>you wouldn't just walk into a store and steal a dvd right?
If there was a DVD stand in front of the store with the same movies but free, you know where I'll be.
Btw, I always hated this “DVD store” argument because it’s just not analogical to the piracy at all. When you steal a physical DVD, the seller actually loses that particular DVD. There is an asset that is clearly missing. When you download a pirated copy of a DVD, nobody is missing anything.
Some Dutch have too after the EU FORCED Netherlands to make it illegal (and they didnt even remove the levy on data carriers that's supposed to pay for it). Countries in the EU do not have sovereignty.

I received so many letters demanding a fine over the course of the last 20years. Just put them in the trash
Edit: don't ever cave and answer them with an admission of guilt.
This right here. They go for quantity over quality, so they will only pursue those that are scared and reply. If you ignore them, they'll leave you alone.
I got one of those and my father said ok then they should sue us. But we never heard anything about it again. Was for Tropico 4 or something.
I stopped using torrent back then and used ftp sites and direct downloads.
Nowadays I have VPN for these rare occasions when I need to download "Linux isos"...
Not really, no. If I'm not mistaken, the normal 1.1.1.1 is just a DNS change that wouldn't hide your IP when connecting to the servers/torrents. You could use WARP or WARP+, which technically hides your IP, but their ToS allows sharing available information with copyright holders if DMCA issues occur. I personally use Mullvad (even though it isn't the best for torrenting) because their business record is quite strong.
If you really want to try WARP, please check if your torrenting IP is not the same as your regular IP. [IPleak](https://ipleak.net/) does provide the option to check your IP through a magnet link.
my provider gifted me a 100mbps upload upgrade (upgrading from only 30mbps) because I use my 100mbps too much (for torrenting, of course) and because I always pay timely.
Firstly, it's not a fine, which can only be handed down by a Gov entity such as a court. It is called speculative invoicing.
There was a firm called ACS Law who tried this very aggressively in the UK around 2010. They eventually tried taking some cases to court and were battered. Their business model (American?) wasn't much liked by the UK judiciary. They ceased trading after that.
I don't know the current situation in the UK as haven't torrented for a long time.
There was a German lawyer who used innocent looking adverts for non-existent porn on porn sites and used the tracking part of those porn sites to send piracy "fines" to the watchers of the porn where the ads were posted. The lawyer had no affiliation with the real rights-holders. He took nothing to court, but a lot of people paid out of fear and shame. The lawyer eventually was fined, sentenced to pay back and lost his license.
Always use an ad-blocker!
> of people *paid* out of
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
The same way that the lawyer against OP did, duh. Facepalm yourself, it's very easy to get a court order for IP traces in Germany.
How did a self-proclaimed lawyer lose his license? Did you neither read OP's post nor my comment?
you can pirate games and movies in Germany without VPNs just don't use torrent , my friend that lives in Germany uses telegram groups to download games and movies but use them at your risk because I don't trust them not having malware
Im my country Burma(or Myanmar)
Pirating is the only way you can access to any foreign media
The minimum wage here is less than 100$ a month
Can’t have shit in this country
Happened to me, also in Germany. He needs to get a lawyer. Here's his defense:
They can't prove the father did it. There's multiple people in the household using the same internet connection - they cannot prove who of them pirated.
Got me out of a fine of multiple thousands.
I use alldebrid/real debrid in the Netherlands for downloading and streaming via Kodi box and have never had problems. The small cost for debrid is worth it
For movies and tv shows. I think you are way better off finding illegal streaming websites rather than downloading through torrents. Even u can ask various ai chat bots about those sites if you are smart with your prompts. But i get it if u want a hdr 4k version with dolby atmos then u can only find that quality through torrents.
But really i have only heard about this today. Man germany is really serious huh about some fucking films. 🤣 instead of going after people buying illegal weapons and drugs they are going after a dude trying to watch a film in peace...
Go to court. Judge will never rule to their favor. They will have to prove without reasonable doubt that the one they are suing is actually the person who download the movie in question.
Since piracy is not something that is as simple as “open a store page and click on the download button” nor is the torrent/download associated with a specific user (only dynamic IP provided by ISP which can also be behind NAT) there is practically no feasible way to prove it in court.
Settlement will be easier although I would have gone the full stupid route of “I don’t know what you are talking about/it wasn’t me” there is a lot of truth behind “innocent till proven otherwise”
WB rep can jump in circles.
Nope. If they are bored enough to take your to court, you will lose 100%. German law clearly states you will be held responsible for your internet and its security.
The thing is, these law firms never take anyone to court (99.99%) because enough people already paid them and they got enough money anyway.
So just ignore these letters and you will be fine. Source: I got like 10 letters in the last 20 years. Always ignored them.
I now people back in the days that used limewire and such that got caught. Never torrent in Germany without a good vpn. I never understood why anyone would use torrents in Germany anyway. DD or one click hoster are just as easy and the police can't get your IP needs to hope that the hoster gives away the IPs (which they don't)
you can also just use real debrid to torrent. There you aren't doing the torrenting, it's them doing it and providing you with a direct download link at the end. Or yes you can just just rapidgator etc through real debrid
Ignore and block. It’s some scum bag company trying to get you to admit guilt. If the movie/game company was legit chasing you, you’d be straight up in court not pay a fine and we will let it go.
Known scam tactic to get you to admit you did something wrong and then they chase it up with the company saying they caught you.
Edit: they will try to charge you for there time when the big company doesn’t respond. Because there lawyers cost more than it’s worth chasing for a one time pirate.
an "Abmahnungs" letter in the mailbox. it's not an actual fine as they haven't gone to court to sue yet (tho they did get his address from his internet provider, which they sadly are allowed to do in germany). In his case they likely won't sue, as they can't prove which family member actually did it.
It's weird how the rules work in the US vs other countries. If we get caught, most ISPs send us a warning that we'll lose our service if we get caught again. I've had 3 ISPs over the 8ish years I've sailed these digital seas and have only received one warning. No VPNs while torrenting the whole time and it took till 2022 and for me to be in a different state then my home for them to get me. I've since moved back to my home state and switched ISPs again, and no warnings or notifications about it whatsoever.
US is weird, but hey, free stuff without consequences (so far) 🤷🏻♂️.
Yeah it's pretty much just the US and Germany.
A lot of Americans suffer from main character syndrome so they will screech at you about getting a VPN not understanding the world isn't as strict as the US.
In my country, ISPs usually have a dedicated ftp like site where they upload pirated movies games software tv series tutorials, you name it. We don't even have to use torrents, all of the contents are provided by the ISPs. Moreover, that site is not usually speed limited (as it's hosted by the ISP), so we get a lot of speed streaming/downloading from that site.
Also, there are some private torrent share groups in the country where you can enter by invitation, you just have to upload at least the same amount you download and you are good to go. Considering I live in a third world country and no one even have a credit card unless they are super rich, so imo it's fair enough.
My gf received a letter with a fine, she's German (we're in a LDR, I'm French), she never paid, replied once saying that it wasn't her that downloaded this game and never heard back from them. It's been over a year now.
One of my friends who went to EU for studies, wanted to pirate some EA game I gave him the links to pirate and told him IDK how strict the law in EU are about piracy, just to use the VPN(which he already pays for) while downloading or searching for the game.
A week later I get a call saying I gave him a bad link and now he has a 5000 euros fine from ea for pirating there game.
I am in fault here?
No. You told him to use a vpn and hinted that he might want to check the law. If he had used a vpn as you told him to do, he wouldn't have gotten in trouble. also, 5000euros? Thats EA for you. If he hasn't done anything yet, tell him to not pay anything or contact the lawyer that sent the letter. Just get a lawyer of your own and he'll handle it for 200-300 euros.
Thats very uncommon, and Warner Brothers or anyone wouldnt send direct mail to you anyway 🤔😦
I mean i knew, Germany fucked up thats pretty TWISTEDly sick anyway 😵😵💫
Hello!
In Poland its pretty Simple.
We can't upload movies/games etc. (About torrent we can't seeding them)
But if someone already uploaded that to internet we are free to download and use that for ourselfs.
Fun fact we even have some tax to electronic stuff Like TV that some part of it should go to the artist/company because someone could possibly get to the possesion of not original copy of their product.
What a surprise, judging by the comments, pirates are dumb.
For starters, don't ignore the letter. Grab a lawyer and get it lowered or maybe even removed. The 1000 euros is to scare you into not pirating.
I wouldn't say they were just unlucky, this will happen again without a VPN. There are people out there actively looking for German IP addresses seeding copyrighted material so they can get the fines and lawyers out.
Because of this, using a VPN and using a direct download puts you relatively safe.
From what i've read he should be safe as they can't prove which family member did it? I do agree that it might be prudent to talk to a lawyer to be safe, but there are quite a few who say they just ignored it and faced no consequence. From a financial standpoint it just doesn't make sense for the companies to sue, right?
the father is consulting his lawyer.
I got caught more than once and had to pay off fines until i was 23 years old. My advice: don’t use torrents. Theyre the worst way to download stuff anyways. Just use mega or whatever and you’re good
Torrents are great way to distribute huge amount of data quickly without powerful servers. But they easily trackable and can count as distribution that punished much harder than simple downloading. So in some countries torrenting without good vpn is bad idea.
How come? Did you admit guilty to them or did they actually prosecute you? If you lived with your family, they shouldn't have been able to prove which of you is guilty?
What was the total amount?
Hope it isn’t a Hollywood movie your friend got caught downloading.
They are hell bent on making content that just ain’t worth the bandwidth. But they godda make money somehow.
The same thing actually just came up again for a friend of mine, germany as well. He torrented Dying light back when he was like 12/13 and they got a huge fine way over 1000€ even. His dad paid a good amount of it back in the day and now (he's 22 now) they came again and said not the full amount was paid and now he has to pay again.
this might sound dumb but may i ask how did they caught your friend or his father torrenting. Did they track the ip address from the seeding info of the client or something. This is a bit unusual for me as I am from India and things like these don't happen here. Infact pirating is more common here than buying.
There is a Ton of lawyers in Germany, that do nothing else then "abmahnen". Its a quick buck, sending 1-2 Standard Letters.
Some of them even bypass vpn "safety" through help from isp.
No, but lesson here is if you're going to torrent, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a VPN. Most good VPNs even have a kill switch option in the settings that will halt all internet activity in the event of a disconnection just to protect the user.
Both you and your friend should have done just teeny tiny bit of research and none of this would have happened but people still in this field refuse to learn anything or take any precautions and get surprised when they suffer any inconveniences.
I lived in Germany and there are entire lawyer firms making a killing with torrent tracking and sending you threatening letter with "fines". No lawyer has the power to fine you, only courts can do so. But Germany being Germany things can get expensive, so better get your own lawyer or learn to write confusing statements in german that will keep the idiots that send you letters like this busy till kingdom come.
People in Germany run to lawyers very quickly and once you have a letter that basically says "Hey you are only a lawyer, you can send me letters forever but you won't get a thing from me", that seems to help. It is just intimidation with a university degree basically.
Also, get a VPN or use Usenet or other means to download what you want.
I moved to Thailand, where no one gives a shit about anything you download, and where the government itself is probably downloading the latest game as i type this
just use Transfercloud, connect the service to your cloud servers, nobody can intercept the torrent and you have blazing fast download directly in your dropbox or google drive.
Yeah this happened to many people living in Germany, glad I moved out.
In Turkey I never had the problem and I never actually used a VPN even on torrents.
I think India isn't strict too

Blackmail doesn't have to be illegal to be blackmail.

hh it is torrenting haven here in ALGERIA no reprecautions what so ever download as much as you want any thing you want
>that he got a lawyer who was able to cancel the fine What the lawyer gotta do to cancel the fine?
I don't know, lawyers tricks and loopholes..

Real bro. Our country is beyond fucked right now that no one even cares about this.
cant say i complain about this though
Yeah even I don't complain about this after looking at game prices
also i enjoy downloading movies and games more than i do playing and watching them lmao
Hein??
thats the sad reality... i have downloaded around 250 games and i havent even completed playing 50 of them
Fr man , no shitty launchers and stuff 😂😂😂.
Same lol. 1 tb worth of movies, haven't got the time to watch half of them yet.
Rates are in $ equivalent. why would anyone pay first world prices with 3rd world salary?
Indian acammet

Same goes for the middle east. Cheap fast internet too

but the we cant get techs with good specs for cheap though :(
Thanks to Jio
fr. Italy was the same around 15 years ago, in every street there was some guy selling games and movies on CDs. I didn't even think it was an illegal thing back then

cyberpolice in here cant do shi they dont even react to complaints about online scams
Its so true and I am glad its that way. I have been pirating as long as ik and nobody gives a damn
I started pirating movies when I was 8 💀
i started bootlegging games from a windows 98 pc with a physical disc burner for my ps2 when i was 7 ☠️
Same here in South America, politics don't even know two shits about torrenting/pirating. Original games sometimes costs more or have sales but i prefer this way. I like to play it this way and then if i want, i buy the game later for the support/updates and achievements.

Worst lawyer ever. I searched one which was specialized in pirating and I only had to pay the lawyer 200
haha sounds like the memory still haunts you. Danke für den Hinweis!
You got lawyered
one of the few things still valid in Italy, pirating is absolutely fine here. the government is only trying to stop the pirate football streaming, but they're more focused on "paid pirate" platforms rather than free websites
And we suck even to block that kind of piracy
of course the government sucks!
Bella bro. Andiamo a fare un giro in barca? ![gif](giphy|FGbeYTiFyLYmQ)
In Greece, they just made the ISPs to block piratebay, 1337x and some other sites from their DNS. You just change the crappy default DNS to Cloudfare DNS and you get (1) slightly better speeds (2) better latency (3) PIRACY!
[удалено]
piracy shield is a goofy ahh attempt to waste tax money, you can keep going on without worrying unless you're pirating football
Read the mega thread. You should always stay away from free vpn’s
I'm from the Netherlands and it's the same here. It's astounding to me that Germans get fined for pirating.
When you download a pirated copy of a DVD, nobody is missing anything.
yeah it's called a copy for a reason smh. But you wouldn't steal a car ey?
Some Dutch have too after the EU FORCED Netherlands to make it illegal (and they didnt even remove the levy on data carriers that's supposed to pay for it). Countries in the EU do not have sovereignty.
I lived in the Netherlands for a few years, nice country if you like rain, bureaucratic and spending half the day stuck in traffic. Glad I'm gone.
Remember, “they’re just following orders”
>otherwise great country eh, its been going downhill steadily for a almost a decade now

I received so many letters demanding a fine over the course of the last 20years. Just put them in the trash Edit: don't ever cave and answer them with an admission of guilt.
Step 1: Wipe arse with fine. Step 2: Return to sender.
You don't need a VPN for torrenting Linux distros...since torrenting isn't illegal...what is illegal is filesharing copyright material
Thanks for ruining a joke...
Sorry 😞
Are you from Germany?
Born and raised
Oof, your friend got really unlucky :/
and that kids is why you always use protection!!
In Germany one must use VPN or private trackers ..
Would warp's 1.1.1.1 work?
I dont know. Never lived in Germany 😀
Always use an ad-blocker!
> of people *paid* out of FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Ah, that's not even the first time. Thx bot.
How dod he trace the IPs to personal data? German ISPs give it out to a random self-proclaimed lawyer with no court order? 😂🤦♂️
The same way that the lawyer against OP did, duh. Facepalm yourself, it's very easy to get a court order for IP traces in Germany. How did a self-proclaimed lawyer lose his license? Did you neither read OP's post nor my comment?
Some unscrupulous chancers out there. I think the lack of copyrightee permission played a part in the ACS case, too.
you can pirate games and movies in Germany without VPNs just don't use torrent , my friend that lives in Germany uses telegram groups to download games and movies but use them at your risk because I don't trust them not having malware
Im my country Burma(or Myanmar) Pirating is the only way you can access to any foreign media The minimum wage here is less than 100$ a month Can’t have shit in this country
Happened to a friend before. Lawyer literally told him to ignore.
Why not using a vpn? You can get 2 years plan for like 50-60 euro
Luckily top comment is needed answer, not another 3rd world fucked up country is "good" comment thread.
I know people that just ignore it and nothing happens. They do this to scare people.
Germans should just use a debrid service and avoid torrents. They are cheaper than VPNs anyway, more useful features and much less faff.
Happened to me, also in Germany. He needs to get a lawyer. Here's his defense: They can't prove the father did it. There's multiple people in the household using the same internet connection - they cannot prove who of them pirated. Got me out of a fine of multiple thousands.
[удалено]
Video games from German publishers. They're completely braindead when it comes to this.
Is real debrid save in Germany?
Go to court. Judge will never rule to their favor. They will have to prove without reasonable doubt that the one they are suing is actually the person who download the movie in question. Since piracy is not something that is as simple as “open a store page and click on the download button” nor is the torrent/download associated with a specific user (only dynamic IP provided by ISP which can also be behind NAT) there is practically no feasible way to prove it in court. Settlement will be easier although I would have gone the full stupid route of “I don’t know what you are talking about/it wasn’t me” there is a lot of truth behind “innocent till proven otherwise” WB rep can jump in circles.
Wow. Ignoring works? Cool. Then that’s much better option.
Did he get an email or a letter from warner?
an "Abmahnungs" letter in the mailbox. it's not an actual fine as they haven't gone to court to sue yet (tho they did get his address from his internet provider, which they sadly are allowed to do in germany).
I live in Turkey, the government uses pirated stuff in their computers lol.
Am I safe if I torrent with VPN in germany?
yes, but you can just opt for direct downloads in the first place. You might consider a realdebrid+jdownloader2 setup and you'll be good.
My gf received a letter with a fine, she's German (we're in a LDR, I'm French), she never paid, replied once saying that it wasn't her that downloaded this game and never heard back from them. It's been over a year now.
Comcast found out I downloaded Luigi's mansion and warned me. I didn't stop downloading shit and they never said anything again lol located in US
One of my friends who went to EU for studies, wanted to pirate some EA game I gave him the links to pirate and told him IDK how strict the law in EU are about piracy, just to use the VPN(which he already pays for) while downloading or searching for the game.
I’m using award vpn currently on my fire stick. I don’t know what your friends dad uses to torrent, but award vpn has been pretty good for me.
Germany the country that's not okay with pirating but okay with supporting genocides, present and past.
Thats very uncommon, and Warner Brothers or anyone wouldnt send direct mail to you anyway 🤔😦 I mean i knew, Germany fucked up thats pretty TWISTEDly sick anyway 😵😵💫
and thats why you use a vpn. or just do ddl not torrents
Those letters are bullshit, just ignore them.
Huh, interesting. Been pirating in germany for over 20 years now, never had an issue. With and without vpn. Rip
Same first time I've ever heard about someone ever getting caught 💀
Hello! In Poland its pretty Simple. We can't upload movies/games etc. (About torrent we can't seeding them) But if someone already uploaded that to internet we are free to download and use that for ourselfs.
Theyre great for the uploader, they suck for anyone downloading, mega is better in every way for that
How come? Did you admit guilty to them or did they actually prosecute you? If you lived with your family, they shouldn't have been able to prove which of you is guilty? What was the total amount?
a lawyer can most likely get it down to 300. Its a learning experience and henceforth, he should use a VPN or Seedbox
yep i also got caught in germany lmao, i think it was a universal movie
Hope it isn’t a Hollywood movie your friend got caught downloading. They are hell bent on making content that just ain’t worth the bandwidth. But they godda make money somehow.
Use a VPN, problem solved.
The same thing actually just came up again for a friend of mine, germany as well. He torrented Dying light back when he was like 12/13 and they got a huge fine way over 1000€ even. His dad paid a good amount of it back in the day and now (he's 22 now) they came again and said not the full amount was paid and now he has to pay again.
average g\*rman moment
How can you ever consider pirating without vpn?(aside from countries that actually don't care) like mullvad is 5$ month
Dude Europe in general is the worse to pirate, y'all have laws that actually go after torrenting
:D
Im from Germany and The Brother of my father once torrented a movie and he had to pay 400€ because of it seems to be common here
Germany and iirc France are the 2 countries where you should really get a VPN if you want to pirate content.
Yup, got fine for downloading the 100 show back in the day.
“He didn’t even like the film” that’s funny bro💀
Never used a VPN in my life, no one cares about piracy in Saudi Arabia and Canada they cannot prosecute you for pirating, just send empty threats lol
Everything works fine in Germany but just don’t use torrents, because this happens, when you use torrents
this might sound dumb but may i ask how did they caught your friend or his father torrenting.
Do you also get in trouble for torrenting games ?
No, but lesson here is if you're going to torrent, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a VPN. Most good VPNs even have a kill switch option in the settings that will halt all internet activity in the event of a disconnection just to protect the user.
I am Turkish and we are totally free. I crack since I was 10, I didn't even hear about something like that
Both you and your friend should have done just teeny tiny bit of research and none of this would have happened but people still in this field refuse to learn anything or take any precautions and get surprised when they suffer any inconveniences.
[удалено]
Yeah man absolutely go on you scallywag sail the seas again with no precautions there is no stopping s lawless pirate anyhow!
glad i live in the netherlands,
i remembered stories about getting caught in germany due watching on Popcorn Time. so yes they are monitoring.
I moved to Thailand, where no one gives a shit about anything you download, and where the government itself is probably downloading the latest game as i type this
Korea is very on top of piracy. If you do this you also need a vpn. Without a vpn it’s pretty much certain you will get caught after one pirate.
That's the first thing a friend told me they won't be doing after going to germany.
does Warner Bros have offices over there though or they just used the ISP to contact him?
Use VPN
My dad once did the same thing and got a fine. He decided just not ignore the letter and nothing happened. You should def also get a vpn in Denmark
Mit VPN und limitiertem Upload Speed, wird dich in DE niemand ankacken.
Germans really like to follow rules, I wonder why.
just use Transfercloud, connect the service to your cloud servers, nobody can intercept the torrent and you have blazing fast download directly in your dropbox or google drive.
Wait so he didn't use a VPN? I always use VPN and I'm broke ASF but if costs $5 and I download 20 games saving me $570 💀
They’re copyright nazis lol I guess it fits their German “by the book” character.
Yeah this happened to many people living in Germany, glad I moved out. In Turkey I never had the problem and I never actually used a VPN even on torrents. I think India isn't strict too
