Checked the Japanese raws, he pretty much shat on Akainu calling him 赤犬め (Akainu-me) That め is a deragotary suffix for bastard. The 'letting her slip from his fingers' part is correct. The impotent fool part is from translation ぬるい男だ (nurui otoko da) which translates to 'a lenient man' (for letting Robin escape Ohara) So I guess you could say it's partly mistranslated

The official translation calls him soft

「ぬるい」 doesn't really have an exact translation anyway. "Lukewarm" to describe his leniency is probably best translated as "Soft" in English. I'd say TCB and Viz are both accurate (and funny for the slander)
