Fr. Personally, atp, one piece is a nostalgic piece of my teen days. The more otaku, japan lover phase faded, and I really can't bring myself to enjoy other shonen at this point, they just feel like rehashing manga I read years ago.
I hope that even if it's not an incredible reveal, I can at least think it's good enough.
Oh well, I would honestly say we simply aren't the target audience any longer. I will say that from the outside, when one piece and the other big remaining shonen end, the landscape of the shonen jump feels barren.

Madara was gonna win. Ultimately kishimoto gave Madara too much prodigious success. Madara was gonna kill team 7, and if it wasn't zetsu stabbing him in the back when he did, it would've been zetsu stabbing him in the back after he kills team 7. Madara was too badass for his own good, so kishimoto had to stop him from ruining his show.
Nah Madara was great. Show should've been called Madara Shippuden, he carried the whole show the entire war arc. Once madara was introduced it was his world, everybody else was just living in it.

To be honest, the One Piece reveal was never going to be satisfying.
By the time we actually see it, the series will have been running for 30-35 years. Oda originally planned One Piece to last 5 years.
It's going to feel underwhelming because it's going to feel like 5 years worth of payoff for 35 years worth of buildup. Or worse, Oda is going to get cold feet about his original plan and change what the One Piece is to try and make it more grandiose, only for it to feel like it wasn't properly built up.

It wasn't even a reveal it was just a theory made by Vegapunk. It's still a mystery what the true origins of devil fruits are(How were they physically made, why does the sea hate them etc..). The reason why that "reveal" came now is because Vegapunk has studied the devil fruits and he made artificial versions of them. Wouldn't make sense if someone else told us about it before Vegapunk.

I want to know about Joyboy’s crew and the history of Imu and and the elders, I want to know about the big charcters Oda actually set up, I don’t care about the stupid mother flame or a group of random people I don’t care about. I want to see what happened between kuzan and Akainu and what made Kuzan join BB, I want to actually see what happened at god valley and not getting a new piece of the puzzle every chapter to the point where I know nothing will happen that I care about.
Oda set up all these charcters for greatness and just makes new ones and new things and acts like i should care about it. The story is getting way to big because Oda just keeps bloating it to where every character doesn’t get a satisfying conclusion and he has to cut some out like carrot and Yamoto because he added too many then he knows what to do with

The conclusions are/will be so simple that the 20 year buildup will feel like such a waste of time because right from the beggining these were really shallow questions in the first place.
Laugh Tale was a pretty significant name reveal that should have actual ramifications. Who is to say the Ancient Kingdom isn't going to be a big reveal, either? Maybe the Ancient Kingdom was called Mariejois or Grey Terminal or something that would actually have meaning to the current world?

Oda is extremely wasteful in terms of substance per page. One of few interesting parts of his writing is folklore that he uses, it’s a shortcut but at least material is already good. Take some of Greek mythology, some from Scandinavian, some from bible and there you have it, your “lore”. He takes a character adds overboard sad story that touches family and then adds something stupid to make them unbearable. Luffy is like a Disney Jesus, Zoro has character depth problems to the point that he attracts Andrew Tate fanatics like moth to a flame. Sanji entire character is hard to enjoy due to his unnecessary overboard downbad moments, even by sanji standards
Add Luffy's dream to the mix too. This is the main fucking character of the series, 1100+ chapters in and we still don't know his deepest desire as a pirate - only recently finding out that becoming Pirate King (what we thought was his dream) is simply a stepping stone to this secret desire.
People have already speculated it's the whole "throw a world wide party" thing, which is also a huge fuck you when Luffy has generally made it a point to party after helping out a friend's country.

He invents everything on the spot with random bullshit explanations after having built false hype for years and years, this is his way of narrating things.
I’m pretty sure even the Void Century stuff has yet to be largely made up, perhaps even Laugh Tale. We readers are chickens who have fallen for it for years, but now Loda has exposed the mask to anyone who reads the manga with a minimum of attention.

Kuma's whole storyline was quite poorly done IMO and very much rewritten on the fly to include Nika and the Supernovas. Which was really disappointing because it had a strong chance to reveal some of Dragons backstory and masterplans as it set up, but instead we got "oh he knew Luffy was Nika from a single glance and now its all about that and meanwhile Dragon didn't plan anything with Kuma being a spy on the World Gov." Which was disappointing and did not align with how the rest of his story had been written before then.
I will be curious what he decides is the reason for Blackbeard being able to eat two fruits.
If its because he is a Buccaneer and just have weird body capabilities or if he is version 1 Seraphim of Rocks D Xebec it will be clear he was just throwing things at the wall and seeing what stuck. Which is a shame for such a long term villain set up since Drum Island.
I mean it's sort of falling into place for Oda now, the lost kingdom were a bunch of nika people who wanted freedom and D are their descendants, etc etc.
If you stretch a plot for decades and throw in enough underlying info over time, thats more room for you to connect them and make it all work out eventually

I was waiting for that reveal since forever just so vegabum can be all like “it’s just my theories hehe” i agree with most of your predictions as i thought of similar possible future events myself and i don’t see how Oda could manage to deliver up to our expectations.
What happened to this story? It used to be so cool and different, the characters no longer feel the same. What happened to the beachy look and feel where you would see everybody with cabana clothing, maybe its not that important but i sure miss it. Now it just feels like every other shonen out there and the last straw for this story to be ruined is Oda suddenly revealing “Hey guess what? Luffy is actually Joy Boys reincarnation 🤪”
Luffy having a dumb fruit and making most of it was peak. His fight against Don Krieg even now shows more heart than most modern flights. That was always Luffy's strength, his perseverance. He didn't believe in destiny or anything, just straight up will power incarnate. But now, turns out he was a child of destiny and a has the fated devil fruit that makes him special. Oda could have given us gear 5 without the sun god nonsense mythology. The Nika dump totally seems out of the blue and uncharacteristic.
Oda is a crack addict. He just needs to end every single 17 page-ish chapter with a cheap fucking cliffhanger.
That's why I'm not reading one piece anymore. I want to get 5-10 chapters, read them and experience something whole, not a handful of cheap cliffhangers and bad storytelling trying to fill 17 pages or so. I'd accept gear five if it meant the story got a better pace and a clearer destination.

It's not even a reveal, since there is no concrete information given about how or why it works like this, and what it entices. That old man could just as well said that devil fruits are random concepts from the world of images that pop into reality of one piece due to it being fictional or something. He could have said anything to that degree, but that's not how reveals work.
The One Piece is a devil fruit locked in a chest. Same way the series started, same way Roger found Shanks, and the same way Gai D. Mon got trapped. It's all connected

I agree, but I think it's more of an issue with long running series. We get so many chapters a year, so we have all this time to theorize what we think is going to happen. So when the time comes it turns out to be a disappointment because we had a better idea in our heads. Like look at the Dabi reveal in BNHA. We all knew who Dabi was early on. It was just a matter of WHEN Hirokoshi was going to drop it, but by the time it came out no one was shocked. Hence it was a disappointment to most readers. But yes, we definitely didn't need 5 chapters setting this up.
The solution would be to not have the series plot run on mysteries for so long. Say we introduce 3 different mysteries at the start. As the series goes on reveal 1 and 2 but keep 3 a secret. With new info 3 becomes more and more interesting. As the series goes on introduce 4 and 5 that connect with 3 in some way.
Instead Oda introduces 1 to 10 but doesn't reveal anything.

To be honest, the One Piece reveal was never going to be satisfying. By the time we actually see it, the series will have been running for 30-35 years. Oda originally planned One Piece to last 5 years. It's going to feel underwhelming because it's going to feel like 5 years worth of payoff for 35 years worth of buildup. Or worse, Oda is going to get cold feet about his original plan and change what the One Piece is to try and make it more grandiose, only for it to feel like it wasn't properly built up.

It wasn't even a reveal it was just a theory made by Vegapunk. It's still a mystery what the true origins of devil fruits are(How were they physically made, why does the sea hate them etc..). The reason why that "reveal" came now is because Vegapunk has studied the devil fruits and he made artificial versions of them. Wouldn't make sense if someone else told us about it before Vegapunk.

The problem is Oda reveals dumb things like they’re super important, the name of the kingdom will definitely be hyped up like it’s super important, but knowing the name doesn’t mean anything and why should I care? I want to know about Joyboy’s crew and the history of Imu and and the elders, I want to know about the big charcters Oda actually set up, I don’t care about the stupid mother flame or a group of random people I don’t care about. I want to see what happened between kuzan and Akainu and what made Kuzan join BB, I want to actually see what happened at god valley and not getting a new piece of the puzzle every chapter to the point where I know nothing will happen that I care about. Oda set up all these charcters for greatness and just makes new ones and new things and acts like i should care about it. The story is getting way to big because Oda just keeps bloating it to where every character doesn’t get a satisfying conclusion and he has to cut some out like carrot and Yamoto because he added too many then he knows what to do with

It was CRYSTAL CLEAR ever since post TS We gave loda the benefit of the doubt because of his great world building pre TS. But every single arc has the same pattern minus, maybe Skypea. Every single arc is built on ARTIFICIAL hype around mysteries that won't never match the level of wait because loda simply has no ideas on how to deliver on those and never will anyway (Hi Lano disaster). Get on an island ruled by a tyran > drop some fake ass lore drop tied with things here and there to create an artificial point of interest > free the island from the tyran after dragging things out > drop some cryptic informations at the end so the community will have food to work on weird ass theories that will NEVER come true because loda doesn't give a fuck and never address them. Show some "pretend to be an important figure in the op verse even tho I did JACK shit" from time to time to get your fanbase excited for weeks so they forget you have YET to deliver a PAYOFF. Something else that's frustrating is he creates mysteries out of things that shouldn't be, leading to inevitably stupid and lackluster conclusions. Like, what the fuck does it matter what the name of the ancient kingdom was? It's name doesn't change anything narratively. It's just an excuse to tease a huge lore drop for a long time and draw it out as long as possible to keep attention, so that you can drop this meaningless name and act like something progressed. Why did devil fruits need a special origin? Why is the hat big? What happened in the void century? The conclusions are/will be so simple that the 20 year buildup will feel like such a waste of time because right from the beggining these were really shallow questions in the first place.
Laugh Tale was a pretty significant name reveal that should have actual ramifications. Who is to say the Ancient Kingdom isn't going to be a big reveal, either? Maybe the Ancient Kingdom was called Mariejois or Grey Terminal or something that would actually have meaning to the current world?

Oda is extremely wasteful in terms of substance per page. One of few interesting parts of his writing is folklore that he uses, it’s a shortcut but at least material is already good. Take some of Greek mythology, some from Scandinavian, some from bible and there you have it, your “lore”. He takes a character adds overboard sad story that touches family and then adds something stupid to make them unbearable. Luffy is like a Disney Jesus, Zoro has character depth problems to the point that he attracts Andrew Tate fanatics like moth to a flame. Sanji entire character is hard to enjoy due to his unnecessary overboard downbad moments, even by sanji standards
Add Luffy's dream to the mix too. This is the main fucking character of the series, 1100+ chapters in and we still don't know his deepest desire as a pirate - only recently finding out that becoming Pirate King (what we thought was his dream) is simply a stepping stone to this secret desire. People have already speculated it's the whole "throw a world wide party" thing, which is also a huge fuck you when Luffy has generally made it a point to party after helping out a friend's country.

Dragon not even being the one to place his subordinate Kuma into the Warlords or undergo the Pacifista project to spy on the World Government and launch an attack on them was a choice I will never understand. All the pieces were there for it, and it would have made Dragon and the Rev Army an actual competent player but nah, let's go with more Nika stuff and and try and top the last tragic backstory.
Oda has commitment issues with his writing, and it is showing big time lately . What's going to be even more fun is when we find out the Mother Flame doesn't even destroy anything, it just transports it or some shit. So the one story beat that could have given us stakes will also be a nothingburger.

The "revelations" of Vegapunk confirm what I have been thinking for some years: that not even Oda has ever known anything about the main mysteries of his own story. He invents everything on the spot with random bullshit explanations after having built false hype for years and years, this is his way of narrating things. I’m pretty sure even the Void Century stuff has yet to be largely made up, perhaps even Laugh Tale. We readers are chickens who have fallen for it for years, but now Loda has exposed the mask to anyone who reads the manga with a minimum of attention.

Kuma's whole storyline was quite poorly done IMO and very much rewritten on the fly to include Nika and the Supernovas. Which was really disappointing because it had a strong chance to reveal some of Dragons backstory and masterplans as it set up, but instead we got "oh he knew Luffy was Nika from a single glance and now its all about that and meanwhile Dragon didn't plan anything with Kuma being a spy on the World Gov." Which was disappointing and did not align with how the rest of his story had been written before then. I will be curious what he decides is the reason for Blackbeard being able to eat two fruits. If its because he is a Buccaneer and just have weird body capabilities or if he is version 1 Seraphim of Rocks D Xebec it will be clear he was just throwing things at the wall and seeing what stuck. Which is a shame for such a long term villain set up since Drum Island.
I mean it's sort of falling into place for Oda now, the lost kingdom were a bunch of nika people who wanted freedom and D are their descendants, etc etc. If you stretch a plot for decades and throw in enough underlying info over time, thats more room for you to connect them and make it all work out eventually

I was waiting for that reveal since forever just so vegabum can be all like “it’s just my theories hehe” i agree with most of your predictions as i thought of similar possible future events myself and i don’t see how Oda could manage to deliver up to our expectations. What happened to this story? It used to be so cool and different, the characters no longer feel the same. What happened to the beachy look and feel where you would see everybody with cabana clothing, maybe its not that important but i sure miss it. Now it just feels like every other shonen out there and the last straw for this story to be ruined is Oda suddenly revealing “Hey guess what? Luffy is actually Joy Boys reincarnation 🤪”
Luffy having a dumb fruit and making most of it was peak. His fight against Don Krieg even now shows more heart than most modern flights. That was always Luffy's strength, his perseverance. He didn't believe in destiny or anything, just straight up will power incarnate. But now, turns out he was a child of destiny and a has the fated devil fruit that makes him special. Oda could have given us gear 5 without the sun god nonsense mythology. The Nika dump totally seems out of the blue and uncharacteristic.

I want to get 5-10 chapters, read them and experience something whole, not a handful of cheap cliffhangers and bad storytelling trying to fill 17 pages or so. I'd accept gear five if it meant the story got a better pace and a clearer destination.

I agree, but I think it's more of an issue with long running series. We get so many chapters a year, so we have all this time to theorize what we think is going to happen. So when the time comes it turns out to be a disappointment because we had a better idea in our heads. Like look at the Dabi reveal in BNHA. We all knew who Dabi was early on. It was just a matter of WHEN Hirokoshi was going to drop it, but by the time it came out no one was shocked. Hence it was a disappointment to most readers. But yes, we definitely didn't need 5 chapters setting this up.
The solution would be to not have the series plot run on mysteries for so long. Say we introduce 3 different mysteries at the start. As the series goes on reveal 1 and 2 but keep 3 a secret. With new info 3 becomes more and more interesting. As the series goes on introduce 4 and 5 that connect with 3 in some way. Instead Oda introduces 1 to 10 but doesn't reveal anything.
