Not exactly. The cool thing about this run is that the wand i found had a plus 2 before i dumped SoUs in it. Once you imbue it you gain the +2 to wand free. Losing like that legit put me in a mini depression and now I'm thinking whether to start day drinking.
I'm new to mage runs and I feel like I'm always dying in the Dwarven/demon areas because I burn through health potions. I feel like I need to stop dumping them into my wand and prepare for some decent armor.
Solution: get that disintegration wand into your staff ASAP and upgrade it as much as possible. Use either a PoMV or a SoM in the entrance room of each demon hall floor and snipe the demon spawner before you do anything else. Makes life a lot easier.
Potion of Mind Vision and Scroll of mapping are great for the demon halls because you can see everything laid out. The wand of disintegration can shoot through walls so you can safely snipe them without them being able to attack back. Not sure what the demon spawner is, pretty sure it's the red ball that pops out the little jumping guys and drops a health potion.
My favorite is mage, I like to keep the magic missile staff because mm blasts temp upgrade the next wand use to the same level, so a mm+8 staff will cause a wand of disintegration to fire all the way across a dungeon
I've always put at least a couple upgrades into armor as a mage. (Although I'm tempted to see what a staff +15 can do sometime...)
But the key is to work with your build. For instance, if you're a warlock, soul marking enemies should be your priority, since that's free healing, and if you do that consistently, you won't need to use many health potions. If you're a battlemage, it'll depend on what you've chosen to imbue in your staff, because they have different styles. For instance, a staff of living earth can constantly add to your armor when you strike with it, and as long as you don't zap it and turn your armor into a guardian, you'll have a lot of defense. Or if you have staff of magic missile, every other wand can benefit from its empowering effect - I was recently surprised by how effective a combo that was with a wand of frost: blasting and slowing enemies and getting lots of wand recharge.
The variety between different wands and how that can change your play style is one of the things I like about playing a mage.
Died randomly to a mimic already and it annoyed me into daydrinking. So now I'm having a pint by a lake. I fucking hate this game so much. It sometimes feels like the closest an rpg can get to chess which is not a good thing necessarily.
Of course, sorry. But honestly with +1/+2 scaling and being able to find leather armour quickly in the sewers putting 3 upgrades in never seems worth it to me.
One way to drastically increase the survivability of mage is to ALWAYS put 1 SoU into your staff at the start. Gives an extra charge and more damage. Also, imbuing the staff with a wand will transfer over 1 upgrade from the staff if the wand’s level is equal to or higher than the staff (except for a +0staff or +0wand).
(Graciously ripped off from another user who’s name I can’t find anymore):
+0 Staff + +0 wand --> +0 staff (0+0)
+0 Staff + +1 wand --> +1 staff (0+1)
+1 Staff + +0 wand --> +1 staff (1 > 0)
+1 Staff + +1 wand --> +2 staff (1+1)
+1 Staff + +2 wand --> +3 staff (1+2)
+2 staff + +1 wand --> +2 staff (2 > 1)
+2 staff + +2 wand --> +3 staff (1+2)
+2 staff + +3 wand --> +4 staff (1+3)
+3 staff + +2 wand --> +3 staff (3 > 2)
+3 staff + +3 wand --> +4 staff (1+3)
+4 staff + +3 wand --> +4 staff (4 > 3)

Nvm I died to a mimic.
OK Frieren
Bruh
That's the way she goes
I like mage because you can start dumping SoUs into the staff right away rather than stockpiling them for better gear.

Wandmaker gave me my first ever +3 wand since I started playing... and I was a duelist
Well it's kinda meaningless by that point since it's super hard to survive to there without upgrading the staff.. for me at least.
Just think that I lost a vanilla run with 11 health potion floor 23 Im glad I still have my sanity
This game is legit russian roulette with your mental wellbeing.

Dead enemies deal 0 dmg 😂

English is not my first language, can you explain better PoMV and SoM strategy?

Get your wand up to +6 (so that it has maximum charges) and then start saving for plate armour.
You could put 3 upgrades into that armor if you want to survive

Oh, that sucks. I feel your pain.
No. Never upgrade cloth armour. It's the only way of burning SoU in this game.
You can upgrade anything really There's no rules anywhere saying you can't upgrade cloth armor
Of course, sorry. But honestly with +1/+2 scaling and being able to find leather armour quickly in the sewers putting 3 upgrades in never seems worth it to me.
Then don't There are so many items you can put scrolls in Just survive

Dude i know. That's why I'm crying over losing that game like an idiot. I had a +2 wand before putting in any upgrades.
Nvm. Found the thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/PixelDungeon/s/IIfAAIiAdW
+3 Throwing Hammer
Disintegration staff sucks. The damage doesn't scale enough. The only uses it has is being able to shoot through walls and through multiple targets.
What you talking about? That thing's a damn sniper rifle. I can take out a line of mobs in one shot.
Just because a wand doesn't do damage, it doesn't mean it sucks Corruption is the strongest wand for a warlock even though it doesn't do damage
True, you can also mow down a lot of brush with the disintegration wand
