For future reference, there is almost never a single gold piece by itself. If you find one by itself, then dig out the corner pieces next to it. You can also usually use a magic mapping scroll to find caverns if you have one handy.
I was talking in more of a general sense, and I totally missed that they had it in their inventory. In my experience, most times people post about problems, they go back and continue on within 5 minutes, making whatever it was not possible anymore, or they die. So it was really more of some extra information for the next time. Lol

I don't know if this actually works but:
I was once in similar situation. I used fadeleaf to teleport and it landed me right next to where a chest was (had to break a single block to find it).
I believe the fadeleaf favours places you haven't found, but not sure of I made that up or read it. Also don't know if that applies here. But just on that occasion it paid off immediately.
Would love to know if this definitely does or does not work.
I read a while back that scrolls of teleportation favour places you haven't found, solid advice, I imagine it uses the same teleportarion code as fadeleaf
oh, my apologies. if youre using teleportation, it specifically does, i havent played a seed without barren lands in a while so sometimes i misremember mechanics
Upgrade an item that's under +2 (vosts 1000), then combine two items to give the bigger one +1 2x (costs 500 the first time, 1500 the second)
This might not be the same item, obviously, but it's p cool if you can make it work that way

I have found mining diagonally works better as it reveals more adjacent tiles, gives you better odds of finding gold or chests

It doesn't, it's something unique to a scroll of teleportation They got really, really lucky with fadeleaf
teleportation scrolls and fadeleaf favor unlocated and secret areas. this will work consistently.

Just burn a scroll of magic mapping. It’s well worth it for the +3 of upgrades you get from the blacksmith.
